its as any, if you pay for a game, its likely you try to limit your rival with it.
if written with guidelines the cards should perfom similar.

Drivers, lacking support...Quote:
This i know But, i thought the new card would fare better
On an unrelated note the 6870 are down to 216$ WOW!! preparing for the 6950 >300$ ?!
GTX 570 is 339€ in the same shop :(
Jesus !! what the hell is this :down:Quote:
HD 6970 - 420€

What is slide in pink ? with asian letters .
God those scales are terrible
P.S. Lost PLanet 2 is heavily Nvidia. I tihnk some review had the GTS 450 beating a 5870 in it :ROTF:
edit: why'd they pick P settings and Lost Planet 2 huh? Those are pretty obviously the ones that were Nvidia favored from even the German leaks showed it
So basically OcUK have more 69xx cards on their own than GTX580s exist in the worlds shops?
That's a hell of a pyramid lol
There were some 570 at ~300€ last week in a few french online shop :yepp:
-2 points for lacking the Christmas star.
AMD to Bring Extra-Large Vapor Chamber Cooling to HD 6900
http://www.brightsideofnews.com/Data..._Vapor_675.jpg
As you can see in the image above, unlike in their previous attempts at Vapor Chamber cooling with modest sized vapor chambers like in ATI Radeon HD 4870X2, the approach with Radeon HD 6900 Series is more akin to Sapphire's pioneering 3870 Vapor-X, or recently the GeForce GTX 500 Series.
This massive Vapor Chamber cooling is the reason why AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series is achieving remarkable overclocking results, just like the GeForce GTX 580 and 570. We've seen GTX 580 working at 895MHz, GTX 570 at 880MHz as well as viewed results of Radeon HD 6970 clocked at 980MHz, and 6950 at 1010MHz. We've spoken with numerous board manufacturers and they're all telling us that this generation of graphics cards is "vintage", with overclocking headroom spanning much beyond the last generation.
Who'd knew, perhaps TSMC is finally maturing their 40nm process.
A 6950 at 1010? Nice!
 nice, but here :Quote:

880MHz-980MHz = 100MHz :(Quote:
Radeon HD 6970 clocked at 980MHz
If these figures are common overclocks. These would be the gains.Quote:

GTX580 772 -> 895 (15.9%)
GTX570 732 -> 880 (20%)
6970 880 -> 980 (11%)
6950 800 -> 1010 (26%)
Too bad AMD hasn't been able to up the core clocks much since 4890, it feels like they've hit a wall of some sort. This new generation from Nvidia and AMD has been nothing but disappointing in terms of perf increase. Gone are the days of 2x the performance compared to previous generation, now it's more like 1,2X.
Of course 28nm will once again bring a lot of performance since it's a full node smaller. I'm expecting great things from Nvidia and AMD a year from now.
please 15th, save me, save us all. :DQuote:
Relax boy, you're jumping to conclusions on pre launch pricing and unreleased performance.
Just ordered a 6970 for £299.98 cant wait!!!
Wow, this thread really took off since I was around last time :)

dont be mean .. share the knowledge :D
i didnt read your post wrong ... because they canceled it now seems like a full node .. but it isnt according to the industry ... thats all that i wanted to post ...
but your right .. since they canceled 32nm it now looks like a full node shift ...
at what time ends the nda ?
The problem isn't the power regulation or the cooling, but the fact that the chips run at way too low voltage to clock well at stock. People would claim the chip to be a "great clocker" if AMD bumped the voltage by some 0.075V, even though infact the chip itself wouldn't be any better - it would just have higher stock voltage to achieve higher clocks at stock.
I guess Nvidia and AMD balance the stock voltage and core speed quite accurately to meet the most optimal yield/power/performance/temperature ratios, and the top bins go to low-voltage mobile products.
wont there be a software method to unlock the voltage ???
Who knows, but Asus will definitely release the Voltage Tweak 69xx.
well if theres no software volt mod id have to go hardmod .. not that it doesnt mind me .. but i know nothing about those ... :(
anyway .. the waiting game begins for non refference design with oc on the mind
Surely MSI AfternBurner will support them.. but when ? If the powertune "things" complicate the voltage control for them it will take a little bit more time for finish it.
I just measured 27.5cm up to my case (antec 900), it's going to be a damn tight fit :(
Edit: Luckily the power connectors are on the side of the card, otherwise i would be pretty much feked
That's good to know man, thanks.

I can confirm the German results are fake.
Well, my 6970 from Sapphire arrived.
They've specifically gave a download exclusively to the latest drivers which truly unlock the performance, and it's beating a stock 580 in Heaven, albeit the max FPS is a little lower.
Fake, then... Good to know.
I have high hopes for the card.
5 hours left?! :D
http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/5385/dsc00413.jpg
Will a 6970 fit into this?
That's a 5850.
GTX580

GTX580 @930/4400
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/44/580oc.jpg
Yeah, but you're going to have to mount it vertically.
For ease of eyes...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../6970vs580.jpg
Yeah it's about 11% more pixels but it looks like the 6970 would still squeak by in a direct comparison. That's at "normal" tessellation levels of course.
as nice as a vapor chamber is, i still would go with a non exhaust only heatsink and large silent fans, since i have good internal air flow
(actually my case has no gpu exhaust vent, lol)
WHAT!! OMG OMGMGOMG
http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/ite...-cost-275-euro
The Radeon HD 6970 will sell in Europe as of 5 AM Wednesday for €275, while Radeon HD 6950 will sell for just €225 euro.
Fooled again by that wretched teneighty.
16% quicker, but 11% less work, so 5% quicker than 580? 20% oc headroom for 580 on air? Cayman need 15% oc headroom to match? Seems doable. Fud says 275 Euro too...that would be pretty nice.
I'm going to rest a bit now and dream a little $350 6970 dream. :D
5800 series pricing deja vu? Sweet
you guys trust fudzilla now ?
these prices seems to be very low but why not :p
It's not even 360$... if it's 300€ in Europe it will be around 300$ in US
http://media.funlol.com/content/img/hory-shet.jpg
with those kind of pricing it would deffinatly be a good buy :D
I have a fairly confident feeling it'll be $380 for the 6970 and probably like $300 for the 6950.
lol Nvidia is going to have to make some sort of massive price adjustment...$200 price adjustment (sorry for the prev customers who paid top dollar)
If 6970 costs 275 EUR... I dunno... Really...
O_O
Would be a sick Christmas present from AMD! :D
prices sound way to nice, im betting on 325 minimum for 6950 and 375 minimum for 6970
Agreed. $400 doesn't sound unrealistic for 6970.
I'm still sticking with $299 for 6950 and $399 for 6970 to avoid disappointment.
price sounds way too low, and this is Fudzilla giving us AMD info so its probably fail
329/429 is my guess
6950 vs 6970 vs GTX 580: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18217817
This is still with the supplied default drivers that came in the box. Apparently there's some talk going about that a newer 8.851 driver offers a slight performance boost, but we'll see. Gibbo and other people were using 8.790.
ps. It includes overclocked and crossfire results too ;)
I hope they will be that cheap. Then we will see more ppl with rigs like this =))

Some other info from the link is interesting...
And this is on a launch day in UK (= quite expensive [by EU standards] by definition).Quote:
Price - Sub £250 for a 6950 and sub £300 for a 6970 make these cards very competively priced!
OcUK will put its stock live sometime after midnight tonight at which time you should check the following link as we have 1000+ in stock right now!!!!
So they might be actually available for sub 300 EUR...
@ Monstru: will we see your review at midnight? I am hoping to do all the necessary research before heading off to bed! :D
I'ma brigin' it back from the dead:
Will it run Crysis?!
http://boingboing.net/images/dramatichipmunk.jpg
Those results seem quite good. Looks like AMD have got another 4xxx series of cards on their hands. Cheap to produce, and trades blows with Nvidias top GPU, while being cooler, quieter and cheaper to run.
It could be drivers bring the 69xx cards more life too, as it's a new arch for AMD.
I take it the 570 and 580 will be dropping in price very soon.
I wasn't going to buy a card this year, but if these things are cheap, cheap to run, cool and quiet...
Yeah my thoughts exactly. Although one thing that does concern me, is that the difference between a 6950 and 6970 at stock in those heaven benchmarks, is about 3 fps
800 core vs 880, 1250 mem vs 1375, 1408 SP's vs 1536 and only 3 fps difference?? Points to drivers IMO...
