did you tried a bit more vcore? 500FSB looks nice for a quad
Guys, I need some help here.
Did some testing with the UD3P and Q9650 (F5a bios)
I set 1.25 in the bios, then went to PC Health (in the bios) and it shows 1.22(LLC Off)
So I fired up Cpu-z and E.T. and low and behold 1.22
Do I believe what I set, or do I believe the pc health-E.T and Cpu-z read?
I've never had a board show different readings in two areas of the bios.

This is running Prime, I'm down to 1.168
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/joshko/2.jpg
WTF is going on with these voltages? such a large droop with so little volts.
I'll edit later on how bad it is at 4.0
Opinions/thoughts appreciated
Edit:Thanks for your input PPInDaHouse
4.0
1.36 bios---1.31 pc health-Cpu-z-E.T.
1.26 Priming

Does this appear to be poor voltage regulation or just a board that needs to be RMA'd?
Believe on what pc health and hw monitor show, its more accurate than what you set in bios
Ugh, maybe I've got a weak board then. So frustrating, guess I"ll call it quits on this board :(
Auto at 445x6 sets vcore to 1.38v according to PC health.Quote:
Ive left nearly everything on auto in the bios (which i read most people were doing) which imressed me but then ive just installed easytune and looking at that its raised some of voltages to scary levels
Too high for my tastes.
I'll start at 1.25 and work my way up manually.
hicookie,
With LLC there's always different opinions on whether or not it's safe to use on a regular/daily basis.
What's your knowledge/thoughts for it's use on a daily basis with 45nm chips?
Thank You
hi all.,just want to ask.,currently i'm using the F4 bios for my m/board.,i want flash to version F5a.,i already download th bios file.,but the bios file not included the flash895 or flashspi.exe files.,my question now is can i flash the bios using flash895 or flashspi.exe file..tq
that's great, use 333MHz strap , i never touch 400MHz strap
for daily using,if you have good HSF ,ex 120 extreme.
vcore: 1.45v,VTT:1.42v,PLL 1.8v, vMCH 1.4v,
vdimm is depended on what ICes of your modules.
save the BIOS file to USB drive , then use Q-FLASH(F8) under BIOS
its more easy for flash BIOS.
Yeah it's way easy to do as HiCookie says .. read the manuel
have the thumb drive in place when u enter bios & have only the new bios on it
I get my replacement board tomorrow looking forward to getting it up & going with the Q9650 then i try with the QX9770 after that .. will report back ...
i will try it later..
Got mine all set up last night, hit the power button... starts to boot, shuts off, comes back on, shuts off... add infinity. Tried everything possible...guess I got a bum board.
Yes. In a case, out of a case, in my Torture Rack.
Tried a E6700 instead of Q9450, three different types of memory, different PSU, three graphics cards, different cpu coolers, reset CMOS, held Insert while adding power and trying to boot. I think I literally did everything and nothing changed from the first time I tried to boot it till the last. It's already on the way back to Newegg.
Been trying all day to get around 500FSB stable on my Q9650. F4 and F5A bios.
Ive set vtt/Mch higher than i would normally dare but it didnt make any difference. Ive also copied Hicookies settings in this post but it still fails super_pi and blend instantly. My ram is OCZ flex 2 9200 so normally handles 500Mhz with ease.
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/6126/capture3dc8.jpg
This chip only needed 1.216vcore for small FFT with 445x9 but fails in a few minutes with 500x8 with 1.3vcore.
Sweet! Yeah I haven't been overclocking as long as some but I "cut my teeth" on Thunderbird AXIA's (still have that beauty). I just try to read as much as I can and don't post much. ;)
Forgot to add that I tried a PCI-E graphics card in the #2 slot and also tried a ATI 9250 PCI (in the PCI slot...duh!).
Overclocking is TOO easy now, whatever happened to using a rear window defogger kit? We have boards like this one that will literally overclock itself. :) Of course, the elder clockers here will say even that was a breeze compared to the Celeron days.
Got my Q9650 today and ran some benchies on air...... :surf:

.
I'll try to get that posted when i get done work
Hey guys, thought i'd post some of my results with this board, especially for those Q9xxx users out there.
This board is really been the first to unleash the golden Q9450 i suspected i've always had. I'm currently at 4.0ghz with very reasonable votlages, starting stability testing. I got up to 4.2ghz for some cpu math benches, and plan on taking it further once i nail down a stable clock.
This is all within an hour or two of opening the box. I'm really amazed.
The Pi times are pretty slow as i'm on a totally unoptimized, few month old vista install, but i'll tweak as i go along.
Will post 4ghz stable screen when i get back from swim practice!
nice to see high FSB on all those quads :D
here´s a nice validation with Q9550 E0 and UD3P - mushkin redline are running with CL4....

such a awesome motherboard!
My ram won't let me go higher then 577 FSB but nice stuff at 560 FSB-Too high volts for normal use LOL

1.85 to cpu pll?? 1.6 to vtt?
holy degradation batman!
is that really safe? i've been all antsy about even going up to 1.63 pll and 1.42 vtt
oh of course not 24/7 i meant even just for quick cpu math benching.
Gigabyte's auto settings always overkill voltage like whoah.
I think its ok just for that. I mean anything is possible but I doubt one boot with a non stressful test like everest will do it in , especially with good temps and no 100% or even close to 100% cpu usage. I suppose there is an inherent risk of course though even one boot and one test but its a risk I felt was acceptable. In a year I doubt I will even own this cpu and since when I bench or use 24/7 my settings are safe I am not worried.
I have actually read even higher volts on auto in some screens and on air and/or water and not cold. I wouldn't do any stressful benches at those settings, but that's just me.
Hi all of sifu's here.,can any of the sifus give me the full bios setting for this mainboard to get 4ghz.,i just want to use it for reference only.,because i tried yesterday i cannot get to 4ghz.,only can get to 3.60ghz only..tq
all of your reply is much appreciated..TQ
Ordered mine Friday from the egg.....now, waiting :(
Impressive motherboard, the "want to have" feeling is great, as always with great MBs :)
i got this board yesterday and ive tried voltages on auto and was able to boot and be stable @533x8 with my e8400 but the volts for pll,vtt were to high for my taste. my question is, ive been trying to get stable @9x470 but the lowest i can get pll,vtt is pll@1.57,vtt@1.42. also my vcore@1.425 w/lcc disabled real load@1.36 and vnb@1.30 seems very stable@4270,but are these volts for vtt,pll ok? after reading about a few of these boards frying and taking out some CPUs with them. on my last board i wasnt able to ron vtt,vnb any higher than 1.11 to 1.20. so these high volt are kind of scary. just need some input and advice. thank you
my 1st attempt for 4ghz..is the temperature ok..and how about the settings.,do i need to change?
Try dropping your MCH Reference volts from 0.760 -> 0.660 in ET6
Actually, just drop it one notch at a time until you are stable.
I set up ocz flex 9200's and flex 9600's on EP45-Extreme using 0.660v MCH Ref 1200Mhz DDR2 @ 2.1V
BTW can you pass memtest 5 and 7?
Also might wanna try 800-900mv and 200-300ps skews for cpu and MCH clocks
Cool mobo. i'm thinkink to buy it soon 8)
heres what ive settled on(for now)http://i34.tinypic.com/vijp52.jpg
kindof OT, but this board has made me want to go Gigabyte for X58, but the success of Rampage Extreme makes me think that R2E might be the top board.
Any thoughts on this? Think EP45 UD3's success will carry into gigabyte's X58 line?
heres my new e8500.im still having no luck lowering my vtt,pll volt below 1.42,1.59 whenever my fsb goes above 430http://i37.tinypic.com/s41fnp.jpg
those vtt and pll are fine, though i'd expect them to yield higher fsb.
OH DOOD, you need more NB volts. Do 1.5+ and you'll be at 500fsb easy without anything else (maybe keep vtt where it is and pop pll up to 1.61)
Does your ram fail blend if MCH ref is at 0.760 ? I have packaged the cpu for sale atm as i have given up, but if yours also fail at 0.760 i might give it another try.
It did a short memtest but not for long, i shall try and leave it to get past 5 and 7.
@slovnaft,that what i was talking abouton the volts(vtt, pll) if i try anything lower at fsb above 430 no boot.this is with e8400 and my e8500.at 430 fsb i can set vtt@1.2,vnb@1.2 and it boots right up. the when i up the fsb to say 438 no boot oc failure. then i try vnb@1.22-1.30,and vtt@1.2-1.4 no boot. have to set at least 1.42vtt 1.3 vnb.and pllhas to be at 1.57or above
Still testing
Board is very easy! Good performance. Easy to handle.

http://www.abload.de/img/50084l1.jpg
Yes it would fail and was very unstable with higher MCH Ref.
I built this for my friend, so it's not mine, but i believe i couldn't boot into windows properly, as some startup objects would fail to load properly, like kaspersky and vista sidebar gadgets would crash.
Bios settings You will notice that some voltages entered in bios, give a completely different value in ET6.
MCH Ref of 0.723V entered in bios, gives me 0.660V in ET6
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...575stable2.jpg
FYI, this overclock would intermittently revert back to default bios settings when the pc was started from a shutdown state.
Reloading the settings from a saved profile would boot into windows every time though.
I have since changed the overclock to: 7.5x 500FSB for 3,750Mhz, DDR2 1200Mhz using 2.40B x
vtt down to 1.30V, PLL down to 1.50V, Vcore down to 1.3625V
ROCK SOLID now.
P.S. Looking at your memory timings, it seems you are letting the bios take care of the memory settings.
I would change all mem timings/subtimings manually to this: (for starters)
P.S.S. Is your flex kit 2x2GB or 4x1GB? If it's the latter, try with just the two ram modules as a test.Quote:

Has anybody got an IFX-14 on his UD3P?
I just wanna know if it fits?

You know your on to a winner when the competition starts a smear campaign against the key feature of your new product range, Gigabyte must be loving this.
Who cares how hot it runs, it's how high it will clock
hicookie when came the new BIOS? :)
here my 2x2gb curcial
http://www.abload.de/img/550ymns.jpg
Ive just tried lowering or upping the mch ref but i cannot even post with anything but auto. I had to clear cmos as it would never recover from the bad overclock. I also tried your exact ream timings and no go.
Im running 2x2GB btw.
I have been worried the high auto settings on this board has just degraded my cpu as it wouldnt even blend with a modest overclock. Ive just re-installed my old x38 maximus formula and its nice and happy priming @ 4ghz again with the same 1.216v ... phew!
RMA time for the UD3P.
Finally got my replacement board today....all I've got to say is..............kick ass!!!!! I tried to borrow some of the settings Slovnaft had in his ET6 since we have similar systems but I kept getting lockups/crashes. Turns out I can't put much to the ICH core. Anything more than 1.45 locks the system hard. It's kind of late and I'm running OCCT but I will get some settings up this weekend. Currently half an hour OCCT stable at 450x8 on a Q9450@1.3v
I am putting together my first build right now and was planning on getting the EP45-UD3P as the backbone of my system.
I have never overclocked, but would like to get the most out of my system which will be mostly used as a media center, downloading, storing and playing movies and music as well as some editing and photoshop etc.
Will this board easily allow me to change settings and get the best out of my pc without too much involvement in the overclocking process? It seems pretty daunting as I read more and more about it.
Here is what my setup should look like (waiting til Black Friday to get best deals):
Thermaltake ArmorPlus(Armor+) VH6000BWS
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale
mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
VisionTek 900241 Radeon HD 4850 512MB PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V
Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST3250310NS 250GB 7200 RPM (OS & Programs)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM (Media)
ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT
Your thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
get the E8600 & the 4870 1 gb DDR5 u will not be sorry ! NewEgg has great prices on those & the UD3P right now !
I think those are too expensive. Trying to keep the cost down around $1K.
As far as overclocking is concerned, are there optimized settings in the Motherboard BIOS that you can set and forget or will I have to spend alot of time overclocking to get a good boost?
Thanks.
it seems that 790i Ultra took out my gem E8600 rather than this board...one of the mosfests was semi-blown .... black around one side....swollen or missing solder points all over .. that was a good board :( ...wish i could repair it
i have a new CPU and will do some tests this weekend
i've done some testing last night and can bench 32M SuperPi at 4.8GHz with 1.44v real loaded and 1.47v real for 3DMARK1/3/5 with EP45 Extreme air cooled in 21-22C ambient
i've soldered a read point for vcore on the back of the board for this UD3P and will see what happens to vcore while benching
Hello guys am new to Gigabyte boards and I was hoping that someone could help me situate the BIOS. I am not new to OCing but just to the Gigabyte brand BIOS. I am not sure which voltage options is the NB, and I am not to sure about some of the other voltages. I would also like to know what the Reference voltages do. I mean the CPU ref. voltage, MCH ref. voltage, MCH/DRAM ref. voltage, and the channel A&B ref. voltage? I would like to know what the MCH and ICH are? Does this represent the NB & SB? Thanks a lot for your help guys I hope I am not being to much a bother. I was also curious about a newer BIOS where can I get the F5 BIOS and is it worth getting. I am still on the original and the website doesn't have an update yet.
hmmm
550 seems to be max i can do with it atm
anyone else using GMH based ICs
i'm on corsair PC10000 dominators here
even at auto i cant boot much past 550 and in windows it also becomes unstable past 570
i can boot to bios past 600 but as soon as it starts to load OS it bombs out instantly
i tested the chip last night on EP45 Extreme and could bench at 620 in windows on air
ROFL
now the board refuses to post
continuous short beeps
back on EP45 EXTREME i go lol
Same here with board #1 It would boot into bios at 600 but as soon as OS loads bsod or black screen. Tried everything but nothing, only way to get into OS was with ~500 FSB max. Got a second board, set 6x600 and into XP right away. All other hardware same, D9's as wel (Ballistix).
guess i got a :banana::banana::banana::banana: one heheheh
Hell I cannot boo tinto windows past 425 FSB. I can boot into the BIOS at 500 but as soon as Vista is about to load, it goes right back to post. I am thinking about sending it back to NEwegg and having them send me another one.
After readinthis whole thread I decided to try out what I learned and I can only boot to Windows at 425 FSB. If anyone has any suggestions please let me here them.
Im 99% certain me Ballistix are gmh and they do 600+
Well my RAM is D9's they are not MGH. I am using Kingston HyperX 1150mhz, they are GKX not to sure that is why I cannot get higher than 425 though. I am just gonna send it back to newegg and see how the next one does.
Dino are you using 333 strap? I was trying 400 for a while and it was killing me.
Weird...haven't really tested dual core much yet, but it's doing pretty well with quad. :p (540-ish benchable)
http://valid.x86-secret.com/ccpuz.ph...1154&nocache=1
Surprisingly low-key actually. 333 strap, termination at 1.44, PLL at 1.65, northbridge at 1.64, and that's about it really, rest on auto. I boot in at 535 and setfsb up from there. More voltage than that seems to make things worse.
The problem for me is that I can't go any higher than 1.64 nb or it starts getting really unstable, and it needs every last ounce of northbridge voltage more than anything else. Gotta try the same thing on my EP45T Extreme...got a feeling it'll fare better.
what's your nb under?
i plan to get it under dice to eek out some more volts.
oh and i've taken to the habit of setting volts with et6 as well.
i know it's kindof lazy, but it seems to work...
Any new bios versions out yet?
Here my QX9650. Non Auto Settings.
First boot 500 and prime. I test voltages of lower.
http://www.abload.de/img/8x500prime09dc.jpg
heres my best with my E8500(so far)http://i37.tinypic.com/2ldxkp.jpg
Wow that's really high vtt and vpll for that QX9650.
Maybe take vtt down to 1.4 or 1.42, vpll down to 1.61, and move vcore up to 1.31-1.33
Ought to do it.
i'm thinking (hoping) our mch chips are behaving clinically different.
seeing as you're seeing no gain beyond ~1.64v, and mine seems to be scaling well beyond 1.8 (the difference between 8x 540fsb valid and 8x 545 was 1.80 to 1.82vnb), I'm hoping mine will benefit from the cold and some more volts.
With this settings my System is not stable :
http://www.abload.de/thumb/settingspo7p.jpg
After start from Prime Core 1 and Core 3 shuts down .
The cpu works perfect at this vcore, i think its the northbridge .
Ok so some of your cpu voltages are too high, bring them down.
try vtt-(1.32-1.42), pll-(1.57-1.61), vcore-1.33,
VNB is your problem, so try 1.5v, you might need up to 1.56v to be totally stable, but we'll see.
I know this is kindof hard to see, but this is my Q9450 relatively stable at 4ghz
http://img514.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4ghzeh9.jpg
using 1.61pll, 1.42vtt, 1.33vcore (1.31 real), and 1.5vnb
VNB = CPU Termination ?
VNb = MCH core
VTT = Termination
hehe :p:
