Hi guys!
I've found this topic linked on the official Asus support forum, so i think there's a really useful debate going on here :D
My problem is the following: a few weeks ago i've had my pc shipped at home... everything was fine except for the X-Fi audio board don't working!
So i contacted the technical support of the vendor (one of the best in italy... sigh) and he asked me to return the entire pc... two days ago they shipped again the pc to me and... ARGH! The bios was updated to 804!
Strangely enough, this coincided with a drastic fall in my GPU performances: 3DMark only scores 3700 for my 8800Ultra while it usually scored over 14000, and i often have artifacts when benching or gaming!!!
All i was able to do was downgrade the bios to 701, but nothing changed... obiouvsly i was unable to downgrade to the bios version 601 wich i originally had.
Also strangely, i have no problems with my DDR3@1800 with theese bios, just this drastically low 3d performance!
Maybe this depends on the "bad" bios?
I hope somebody here can help me with this... thank you!
Hi guys and merry Christmas everybody..:)
A new bios for the non WiFi P5E3 Deluxe 0903 appeared today in Asus ftp site..
I Ill test it later to see...hopfully they fixed the Vdimm issue and other things..
Anybody here can help me with the quoted post?
I'd like to know if this could be Bios-related...
My configuration is the following:
Asus P5E3 Deluxe/Wi-Fi AP@n
Intel QX9650@3150 (450*7)
Corsair Dominator DDR3@1800
Asus Geforce 8800 Ultra
Creative X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty champion edition
Trivia89... Have you tried to reload your drivers...? When I upgraded to v601 my 8800 ultra was on the fritz... Had to reload drivers... Also don’t leave your PCIE Frequency on auto... 100 works wonders for me.... Note: Uninstall your video drivers before you try to reload them - if that does not work use a different port... Just a thought.... I hope it helps...
so this new BIOS is only for Deluxe not for the WiFi am i right?
No. This is normal BIOS for P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi, you could obtain all BIOSes for this MoBo from official asus ftp folder - ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...5/P5E3_DELUXE/
(ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...ELUXE_WiFi-AP/ folder contain only documents)
Lucky... Express Gate still working...? I've heard that the deluxe version on a wi-fi would kill the express gate option...
Ooo and sorry about the fritz - a state of disorder or disrepair (haywire would of been a better word)
So both mobos use the same bios...thats nice to know..still testing 0903 on my non wifi deluxe ..
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...5/P5E3_DELUXE/
You can give it a try... Have you tried moving your 8800 to a different slot for example PCIEx16 1, 2 or 3... You could have a bad slot or possible damage to your graphic card or eben pin damage.... You have no idea what your repair man has done... could of dropped or shorted out the card...
3700 - is that your complete score-- if so your CPU score is low also....Quote:

Post your complete bios - someone here should be able to assist you with your settings... I've notice a few others w/ the new QX9650...
Question?? why are you using a 7 multiplier?????
Wow Christmas Morning Already... Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Everyone..
The CPU score looks ok, something like 5000, but the GPU's are absurdely low, so they make the score fall...
I've tried setting the bios to auto, then to XMP, then to Manual with
FSB 450
Multiplier 7
PCI Frequency 100
DRAM Frequency DDR3-1800
And the timings to auto.
I'm using 7 because i can have a 450 fsb @quasi-default processor clock, while running the memory @1800.
I updated the bios to the new 903... i just lost a little bit (nothing noticeable) in the everest memory tests, and i haven't still solved my GPU issue!
For now I can only suggest changing slots and reinstall the most current drivers again (v169.25 is what I have)... If that doesn’t work... Place the card into a different computer and test it again... If you still get low results it’s a bad Graphics Card... Also the artifacts could be from it overheating.... Check our temps while you benchmark... Seems like your card is very unstable...
Check out the following link (Click Here) It was written for a Q6600, but it has allot of good information.... Also try not to use Auto settings on the board... Default settings are terrible, and you'll never reach max performance...
Also You Can Post Additional Threads Here For Assistance w/ The 8800....

Talking about the 0903 ,just found out that my ram needs 1.9v (instead 1.8 as S.T claims..) to run at specks but always in 2n mode...
No other problems ..just took me some time , with all these settings, to boot to windows properly and run S.PI..
yeah i tried to run AI clock Twister with Strong and Booster with 2... my 3D Mark crashed.. adn everest RAM read score dropped about 500 when i took the AI out. :(... by the way AI worked fines with 601 BIOS.... i gotta see if i can run 1n and 7.7.7.20 timing
i'm running 1N in BIOS but it still shows as 2N in Windows had that problem since 601 BIOS
Somebody try this BIOS???!
I tried it... with QX9650 and Corsair DDR3@1800MHz all is right... too bad it din't solve my terrific vga issue (8800 ultra scoring 3000 in 3dmark :( )

[Once you finish updating the BIOS, please load BIOS default setting and save before exiting from BIOS menu.]
1. Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com.tw/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx
2. Enhance memory compatibility
3. Enhance VGA card compatibility
Trivia89, Have you tried erasing the RTC RAM: Resetting BiosQuote:
For me AI Suite isn't working with this bios (neither with 701/804)!
It just shows 0000 MHz and hangs if i try to close it!
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect power.
2. Remove onboard battery
3. Move jumper (CLRTC) from pins 1-2 to 2-3 (Keep inplace for about 15 seconds)
4. Move jumper back to pins 1-2
5. Reinstall the battery
6. Turn on computer and enter Bios
7. Set to default (F5) / Save & Exit
8. Re-enter Bios / flash bios again
9. Restart & Enter Bios
10. Enter Bios Settings and Save....
Also in my opinion the AI Suite for your OS is junk... It will cause more problems than it’s worth... If you’re going to OC or update your Bios - Use your bios screen for that... Actually all the software provided on the install disk is practically worthless... Uninstall and save yourselves the trouble...
After all 07xx/08xx/09xx Bios-Crap i will go back to good old 0504.
But how?
EZ-Flash say: "Bios is too old" :(
Old AFUDOS-Version won´t work to. Any Idea??
Be patient ..they will fix it..hopfuly..;)
Personally i have this Ai Twister & Booster disabled with 0903 and started o/c the ram..not bad..
Before at ram specks 1600Mhz and 400x9 i was not stable at all no mutter what Vcore and other settings i used..dont know why yet?..anyway..keep trying take the best stable for everyday use..:)
The new BIOS is good!
My X-Fi dont work more 903 Bios
But memory is fine 1800mhz 7 7 7 20
some suggestion?
Still on vacation, so I havent touched my desktop yet.
I'm on a laptop thousands of miles away (in Santiago, Chile)
It's really sad to see you guys suffer from this badly rushed BIOSES.
I feel lucky though because I've stayed with 601 before I left.
I can't believe you are unable to flash back to former bioses, this is really unaccetpable. And also it is so wrong to see the latest bios revision decrease the 3D performance. I have an 8800 Ultra as well, thank god I haven't flashed with this new POS.:shakes: :cussing:
I'm thinking about putting a warning in the first post of this thread about not flashing to new bioses after 601. If you guys agree, of course and really think that it could help others.
I've seen this happening with ASUS boards before, but this is real madness... to limit EZFlash's usability....:slapass:
I really hope this works well at the end of the day for you guys....
Ok some suggestions on top of my head, and taken from my former bad experiences:
1) Consider NOT using "AI Whatever..." software/hardware stuff from Asus and instead try going manual in your BIOS settings.
2) BIOSES work for both Deluxe and Deluxe WI/FI, and on the last one it doesn't erase Express Gate as long as you have your WI/FI card physically installed. IF EG dissapears, just load bios defaults and EG will be back.
3) Sound Blaster cards. In the future consider not purchasing more Creative sound cards. I made my peace with Soundblaster more than a year ago, due to instability, blue screens during games, faulty and bloated drivers. Instead go with any other soundcard using a CMEDIA chip, preferrably the CMEDIA 8788. They are proven to use less CPU cycles than the bloated Creative Cards, they are cheaper, drivers are more solid not only for XP but also Vista.
And true crystal sound...don't believe me..please try one. And EAX is overrated.
You think I'm ranting against Creative (no I'm not I'm talking reality)
Just do a google search on Soundblaster and about 70% of what you'll find on forums is about problems and headaches.
4) I know we are experimenting with settings, but we don't want to be sitting ducks risking our hardware for ASUS's sake.
If your hardware is working perfectly fine, refrain from upgrading your BIOS.
If your hardware is having problems or if it's performance is not as expected, consider upgrading your BIOS.
If someone in this forum is having a problem with a new BIOS, refrain from upgrading your BIOS.
I suggest to comment troubleshoot the problem here until a solution is found. If a solution is found, then upgrading the BIOS revision can be an option.
If a BIOS revision has not been officialy posted on the ASUS site, I suggest not downloading it, unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing.
The reason is that we cannot blame ASUS for something that hasn't been officially released.
Those are my two cents. I feel your pain guys, I hope things get better....
What about asking Asus to re-release the 601 bios with an actual date, so that the ez-flash would permit to flash it?
Things are still looking good for my TEAM Xtream DDR3 1333
As of today: TEAM Xtream DDR3 1333 w/ Boost Level 2 (Bios v601)
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6492/535zj9.jpg
Mine too... that’s why I'm not going to upgrade to v903 or higher until I get the new QX9650.... Taking donations....lol
I use Asus Update v6.10.02 to downgrade my bios from 0804 to 0601. Need enable "BIOS downgrade" in option menu, then flash back to old bios version.
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/fl...sUpdt61002.zip
It didn't work for me... just says "Incorrect motherboard version"!
However, if you did it so, you're very lucky... AsusUpdate is well known for bios corruption et similia!!! :D
P.S. still making 3700 in 3dmark with my 8800 ultra, tomorrow i'm going to the vendor in order to change the vga... hope this will just solve, or i'll rma the mobo... :(
It did work for me.
Ugg, I hope to one day track down what is causing this PC to crash 1+ times a day.
Random lockups, usually while doing NOTHING. It rarely crashes when doing something.
Is there a good way to determine what component is causing the crashes? I doubt it is the CPU Overclocked, because even at low settings, have the same result.
Windows reports no issues with the RAM, maybe I should test with another app?
Prime95 running 1 thread on each core completes with NO errors.
Same results with 501,704,804, and soon i'll try 903 (804 was the worst due to VDIMM bug)
CPU is not overheating during crash, neither is GPU.
CPU: QX9650
MB: P5E3 Deluxe/Wifi-AP
RAM: Corsair XMS3 1600mhz 7-7-7-20
PSU: PC&C Silencer 750
GPU: eVGA 8800 Ultra
very random crashes. Sometimes BSOD, sometimes not.
Set everything in BIOS to MANUAL and tried many settings.
The new 903..........good!:)
A had this problem too...... With 601 I had problems /day (random crashes)
With 704 1 week/1-2 times crashes! But I changed some BIOS settings....
With 904 better...
Try this settings:
DRAM Static Read Control Disabled
DRAM Dynamic Write Control Disabled
AI Clock Twister Strong
next ....... AUTO\
CPU Voltage Manual
CPU PLL Voltage 1.5V, or 1.6V
FSB Termination Voltage min. 1.4V, or above
Dram Voltage I`m using for C7-6-6-18 2T 1.9V
North Bridge Voltage min. 1.6V, or above
CPU Voltage Dumper Enabled
CPU Voltage Reference max
NB oltage Reference max
CPU Spread Spectrum Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum Disabled
I am new to overclocking and have a couple questions for you experts here. I have the P5E3 WiFi, 1600mhz DDR3 RAM, and the 9650 Yorkfield processor. What I want to know is this: what is the max voltage I should be using and the max temperature I should want to reach? Thanks much in advance. I am trying to get in a good overclock. :)
What is your CPU voltage set at.... Had similar problem... Up-ed volts and presto... worked like a charm... also make sure your Load-Line Calibration is enabled... On the other hand your NB voltage could be too low especially if it’s set to auto... Just a thought... :yepp:Quote:

Have it set at 1.4v and Load-Line Calibration is enabled. I haven't seen others have to go over 1.4 for 4ghz. I'm currently @ 1.4v @ 400x9 and it has the same instability as 400x10.
I did bump the NB up very slightly, maybe .1v, was using auto previously. What should be needed for 400FSB I just want a simple 400x10 for 4Ghz.

Not sure about the QX9650 voltage... I use the Q6600 - I try not to exceed 40C idle & max temps of around 57-58C... Anything higher for extended periods of time could decrease the life expectancy of your CPU (I've heard allot of people say 60-70’s okay, but that comes down to how comfortable you are with it)... Its only money… :)

Well there's a big difference between 400x9 and 400x10 in terms of GHz... Something else you can look at is your DRAM voltage / enter your Rams rated voltage... The auto feature on this board causes more problems than it’s worth... It’s a great idea if you’re not OC'ing... But it has a tendency to provide either too many volts or not enough... Try setting everything manually for more stable results - OC your CPU first w/ auto DRAM settings, Once everythings stable you can tweak your ram....Quote:

1.4v - is that the actual voltage set into the bios or what the CPUZ/EVEREST indicates??
By the way what is your NB voltage…???

thanks for share XD
For such a things probably i will need Hipro5 :D to help...though we are still far ..:(
Just thought I would post a current photo of my PC with the P5E3
I realize this thread's not the place to post pictures of PC's, but I just wanted to show it off... Will remove if it annoys anyone...
http://www.mediamax.com/malkiewicz/Hosted/CIMG0420.jpg
Nice, and it doesn't bother me one bit, in fact I like the pictures, I learn and get ideas to use on my own rig...
Hi there, in the end it probably wasn't a mobo/bios issue... i sent the vga back and i'm waiting for the brand new 8800 to come... really looking forward ;)
Thanks to everybody that helped me! ;)
Good luck...hope that all will be fine now..;)
NB Voltage has been upped to just before it turns yellow.. I've forgot what that was now.
Ram is set to 1.8v as specified. Have tried 1.9 with no improvement.
I realize there is a big difference between 400x9 and 400x10, but that would make me think 400x10 should be much more unstable then 400x9, but it is not. I even dropped my ram down to below DDR-1333 and still unstable.
Nothing but Southbridge is set to Auto.
1.4v set in bios. 1.36 I believe is what I often saw delivered to CPU. I've just upped it to 1.41
CPUZ says 1.384 to 1.416 ... mainly staying at 1.384
--edit--
SuperPI is really great for crashing the system.
Nitroburn,
I know you must be frustrated... I wish I could give you the key settings to make everything better, but unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the Qx9650 / Corsair Ram... I'm almost tempted to purchase the CPU.... I've seen allot of good results...
Questions
- Have you been updating your bios from your OS or Bio?
- What version of Bios are you currently using?
- What OS are you using?
- What's your Rams voltage range (For example mine is 1.75-1.85)
Now back to your problem...
Start from scratch... Clear RTC RAM / Reset Defaults / Reload v903 From Bios / Exit & Restart System.... Refer to manual for guidance....
Start OS with all default settings in place / check for stability.....
If everything works - go to the next step
Start Bios and enter the following settings
Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual
CPU Ratio Control: Manual
CPU Ratio Settings: 9
FSB Strap to North Bridge: Auto
FSB Frequency: 444
PCIE Frequency: Auto
DRAM Frequency: Auto
DRAM Command Rate: Auto
DRAM Timing Control: Auto
-------------------------------
CPU Voltage: 1.44
CPU PLL Voltage: Auto
FBS Termination Voltage: Auto
DRAM Voltage: Auto --- Try Auto First Then Insert 1.9
NB Voltage: Auto
SB Voltage: Auto
Clock Over-Charging Voltage: Auto
Load-Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU CTL Voltage Reference: Auto
NB GTL Voltage Reference: Auto
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
---------------------------------------
C1E Support: Disabled
Use Everest’s System Stability Test (let it run for about 20 -30 min - Keep track of your CPU Temps) and Provide the following information from the Lavalys Everest CPUID
Core Voltage
Memory Type
Memory Clock
DRAM: FSB Ratio
If your system is stable - make more manual adjustments... Keep track of all your changes for future ref..
.
Good Luck....
Here's a couple of pictures of my rig....
 :yepp:  Nice... Wow.. Thats a big case with lots of room... The things I could dooo..
Ok..lets make this thread gallery...at the end..very nice photo's indeed...
anyone done any high FSB testing with a dual core and different straps
i bought a mobo from OPB but it feels like a bit of a dog atm
i read the whole thread and it seems it can be pretty buggy with different bioses and i have 0601 on there myself. It's hard to get any idea what the best bios is from the thread and different posts but i can see that some people have had mixed luck with 0601
from my testing so far i was only able to do ~450MHz FSB with 266 strap, ~500MHz FSB with 333 strap and ~530MHz FSB with 400 strap (32M SuperPi stable) >>>> CPU: E6600
i stuck the chip in my favourite Gigabyte X38-DQ6 and boom 560-565MHz FSB 32M SuperPi stable on 333 strap as far as i can tell
how the hell is it possible that i cannot push the FSB to similar levels
RAM OCs are really bad for me too.......i cannot pass stock 900MHz 7-7-7-20 with my corsairs much.....on default settings in bios i can setfsb to about 920MHz 32M Stable.....maaaaaaaaybe even 930 but spotty. If i tighten the timings to 7-6-5-20 i cannot even pass 32M SuperPi at 900 even if i push the ram to 2.16v in bios WTF>>> this RAM easily does more than that at stock volts :(
has anyone measured the NB temps guys
my boards has a Swiftech 159cu on the NB and 100CFM fan blasting over the area. My idle temps on the base of the heatsink are ~40C and have gone as high as 49C with 1.51v at higher clocks testing ~4GHz or so
seems very hot considering gigabyte pretty much doesn't move from 35-37C during testing following asus (stock heatsink on Gigabyte too lol)
My opinion try the 0903 and test again..
yeah will do next ;)
problem solved
0903 is the bomb! :D

Yes 0903 is the best till now..the only thing is that my ram needs 1.9v instead of 1.8 to load defaults..maybe its bios issue..wil see..
Happy New Year
:toast: :toast: :toast:
Anyone know when the QX9770 & QX9775 are going to be released????
Happy New Year!!!!
903
does anyone know how much voltage i need at 9x450 for QX9650? I'm asking cuz running 903 BIOS right now i don't think this version of BIOS is stable either... maybe its a RAM issue, cant this board run 1800Mhz RAM from corsair at 1800Mhz?
2v is perfectly fine on every mobo i tried at 900
up to about 930 actually
has anyone figured out how to go back to older bioses
i want to test 0503 as it seems to be clocking these corsairs well in bachus's benches
btw guys for those of us that need higher vcore IT IS actually possible through BIOS (no shlt) but Asus won't do it.................someone did a review on a board with A REALLY EARLY bios which had vcore up to 2.35v ;) which later disappeared with newer bios updates heh
I just use a USB stick.. put the bios on the stick that you want, and insert and boot up, hit alt + F2 if I recall correctly, and you can choose the bios to install.
Dont forget to clear CMOS, after .. remove power and battery for 15min etc.. then reboot and default .
i haven't actually tried myself but some users here that have reported that the mobo will not upgrade to older bioses if you have 704 or later bios heh
hence why i ask
