Would EVEREST have this infomation ?, as I have that installed.
My current suspects are GPU/VRAM or Drivers, I think its highly unlikely that these symtoms could be caused by chipset.

Thanks VVJ for the bios, I will try it today. I'm still using F1.
Does anyone know from where AMD Overdrive derives it's cpu temps?
Using the new bios now. It appears there are 2 auto options for boosting ram and vga performance. I'm not sure what they do yet, just had a quick glance to see what they were.
One thing I do like is it has boosted my hsf fan speed by at least 1000rpm. I'm using a 6000+ hsf and previously could only get it to run at 3500rpm max. I'm now getting 4500rpm @40c temps.
Hi Aussie, I sure have.
430HTT
2000 hypertransport speed, all stable :D
Aussie FX
Oh, good news! Thanks for the feedback! If a new version of BIOS update is available, I will notify ASAP.
mAJORD I could only get to 428 HTT. That was without raising any voltages though. - Got to hate it don't you... :)
VVJ having no problems so far.
Nice and stable, but would love some more ram voltage for my D9's :)
@VVJ ..
is there a list of Bugs which have been fixed? Or do you have this errata document already? Comes that new bios with that tlb errata fix ?
Hey VVJ!
Yesterday I was quite busy, but I managed to check CF under XP x64 and there everything was fine!
So it looks like Vista x32 driver support is weak at the moment, besides I was using Beta Cat7.11....
Anyway I will dig that info for you!
PS. CF under XP on those cards is lovely! OCing so easy and cards so stable and quiet! :)
PS.2. Phenom in U.K. store (8 in stock right now)
Lightman, what beta version of Catalyst 7.11 did you use? Mine has internal version number of Vista_8.44RC2_071107a-055554E.
Ok so Im more and more thinking this video issue is drivers so thats on the backburner for now as i did get 3dmark to do a few runs just fine with the -nosysteminfo command option added. Will test with more actual games as well..
However on the CPU/Mem front I am getting some strange results with some quick SP2004 OTHROS runs @ stock everything on my Mushkin 6400s.
Small = Pass after 1h 30 Mins or so
Large = Pass after 1h 30 Mins or so
Blend = Fail after 10 seconds to one minute or so
Have bumped voltage up to +0.15 via bios and am redoing Blend. This memory is rated from 1.9V - 2.1V so Im hopeing its just greedy for volts at stock and needs 1.9+ all the time ... we shall see, if it passes after a few hours at 1.95v on blend ill redo the other tests to for a few hours again.
Blend failed again, this time with the windows "This program needs to shut down" error, lasted 3+ hours however before this happened and it didnt take the rest of the system with it when it crashed(i.e no reboot needed) this was at 1.95v. Since blend tests boath the CPU and RAM a little im gonna try completely separate stress tests for eatch again, Small FTTs on SP2004 for CPU and DOS Memtest for Memory..
Been about a year+ since i last did any of this stuff .. so anyone have any suggestions ?
Small FTTs failed .. or rather caused windows to spaz out with the "this program needs to close after 5hrs 40mins but only after i hit the stop button.
Will do a long Memtest+ run later today.
Note that the ony thing not stock as of now is the VRAM voltage @ 1.95v.
Could use some input here as ive never had a system fall over dureing a good thrashing (stress testing) at stock before ..
If your ram is rated for 2.1v, then give it 2.1.
If you are passing small/large fft then your cpu is fine.
Blend is what usually crashes ram so I'm sure that's where the problem lies.
My Phenom 9500 is ready for pickup!! te he he :D :D
I could be up benching all night, but sorry folks I've been up since 4:30am and they're 40mins drive away
Shall pick her up in the mornnnning. Going to be a busy weekend :yepp:
Small FFT did sort of fail though .. after 5 hours mind you and only after id hit Stop to stop the test, then the SP2004 process stopped responding.
Am finding it rather difficult also to judge CPU temp on this setup what with the on die temps for core 1/2 being so out of wack and all, Easytune says 35 - 37 degC at load ...
The memory i have is this - http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/...ail.asp?id=350
Which reminds me, since im feeling pretty noobish at the moment(lack of sleep amongst other things heh) and as Gigabyte seems to give diffrent names to things what would the 4-4-3-10 timeings correspond to in Gigabyte bios land ?
Finally!
Phenom in reliable hands!! :D
Can't wait....
@S1nn3r:
I found that 1T setting is somehow unstable over 450MHz RAM for me. It's working fine in Windows and even games, but it's giving random hangups and errors for no reason 1 or 2 times a day....
If you're using it, try 2T instead...
Just to clarify it doesnt state that it failed in the Orthos window when i Stopped it running Small FFTs it caused Orthos to stop responding and had to be force quit from task manager.
Processor is 5000+ BE.
Think it may be worth setting the timings to the recommend settings(prehaps setting 1t as well) and cranking the vdimm to 2.1 and see what happens ?
Bad news people, i cant seem to get this thing to run Blend stable at all, setting memory to 2.1v and at the 4-4-3-10 timeings at 1t or 2t ends in failure after 5 minutes or less.
Sounds like you need a new BIOS. That can make a lot of difference for certain types of memory.
Dont you have any other RAM lying around?
I tell ya, it's kind of surreal after all this time actually seeing Phenom on that heatspreader.. after all these years of "Athlon"
Anyway, this board is giving me the :banana::banana::banana:s, I can't drag the ram down from 1066 so i'm going to run into RAM OC problems real soon  must fix issue.
Currently priming @ 2.5 on stk vlts stock crapola HS. Surprisingly cool given the poor cooling and stinking hot ambients here in Queensland
I think i'm running into issue allready though, maybe with this RAM, It's been prime stable (small FFT) for 10mins or so, so far + cinebench 4core + nuclearus (11500 score btw @2.5 ) BUT can't even run a 1M superpi anymore, not exact in round by 1 or 2 loops
Sounds like I need to send you my ram :)
You reckon the ambients are hot there. It's been 46 here today in the WA northern wheatbelt. The temp in the room here ATM is 34 and it's 9 PM, my 6400 is idling at 52:eek:
What type of hsf did you get? Is it DC Opteron/6000+ type? Or the basic lump of aluminium?
Are you using F2L bios?
BAsic clump of aluminium :ROTF:
can't belive they actually shipped with these Heatsinks..
Anyway, yeah i'm using F2L, it's stable except for this issue. The problem with pi running only occurs when the bios save 'crashes' i.e it locks up when you hit Y to save.
When you reset, it commits the changes, but pi is unstable.
I went back into bios and mucked with RAM a little + set it to Ganged, it saved fine, and pi was now fine.
Went back in, fiddled, saved, and it crashed on save again + pi failure is now back. Must have something to do with mem controller settings not commiting properly or something.
Hope to get it sorted by tommorow, or my DICE will melt!
Bios crashing? Can't say I've seen that before.
Touch wood my motherboard has been stable so far, the only problems I've had are with AMD Overdrive, which apparently Gigbyte don't support yet.
I should be able to collaborate by mid next week. :D
Well Im begining to think my RAM is cursed, just cant get it to run Blend stable, failed in 2 hrs 5 mins today after I updated bios to the HL one posted earlyer. So its gone from failing in 20 seconds, to failing in 5 minutes to 3 hrs 40min then back to 2 hrs 5 min so far with the tweaking ive been doing this last 2 days. And all this with no overclocking being done nor anything running "out of spec".
I dont have any other DDR2 Kits laying around, nor do I have another AM2 Procesor to try ether.
As it stands at the moment I may try and find(buy) another DDR2 kit to try as i am fast running out of options and patience. So what are you people useing on these boards that have them working well ?
Tryed one stick and also on a longshot put said single stick in the Yellow DIMM bank instead of the Red one, Blend failed after 30 seconds at same settings as post above ..
I have no way of borrowing a AM2 CPU or a nice 2GB DDR2 Kit localy to do further "process of elimination" testing hardware wise. So i am stuck... unless i want to shell out more money for one of those two items in the hope that it fixes things .. cant afford to go off buying another CPU and DDR2 kit.
I take back all bad I said about this mobo, when I disable "auotoexpress" It flys :D Only problem know is the lack of v-dimm...
S1nn3r: Try 2,1v with fan over and maybe go back to F1 bios, Iīm jusing f2i bios and it works like a charm.
mAJORD: Could we get some screens of youre Phenom? And stepping please! We need to start a database for Phenom steppings also :fact: Getting my Phenom bext week, maybe two if all goes well
Lightman: Nice cg setup there! Have toy tryed the new bios for youre cards yet?

LOL.. autoexpress?
So im guessing from the lack of response to my last few posts that my best option is to pick up another mem kit ?
Hey guys!
Nice news from you mAJORD!
But I also would like to see some pictures and screens :D !
BadNizzle: Impressive memory clocks!!! I want them in my RIG ;)
Regarding my CF I'm a bit struggling with this setup right now  ...
I have sudden switch downs of my rig when doing CF tests! I'm looking for a cause, but so far I eliminated HD3870 cards, they fine in single mode, my CPU is out of equation as well. That leaves me to mainboard and PSU as to most likely suspects. Tried hooking up PCIe power connections to another PSU, but still same switch downs. I will try another PSU tomorrow, but this is killing me :(
I can bench CF at stock, but even then sometimes it will cut the power. When OCed to 877/2600 I'm struggling to open 3DMark06!! In best case it will sometimes finish first run ....
PS. As you probably already noticed I flashed both cards and they are fully stable at 877 and 892MHz respectively :)
S1nn3r: Sorry to hear that you still struggling... I'm now having a small fight as well
My only advice is to get another CPU and/or memory to test them out... Otherwise you mobo might be faulty.... (or incompatible with RAM)
They're comin lightman, it's a struggle OCing with flakey bios.
some BAD news though, at least on this F2L.
Throw a Phenom in and suddenly the only CPU voltage adjustments are
+0.025v
+0.05v
+0.75v
+0.1v
Thanks ha alot of fun playing with my ram today, ballistix are dirt cheap her to 120-130USD will try CL 3 tomorrow if I have time over.
Abought youre switch downs... Mayby 3870 in CF + Youre 3500mhz K8 is to much for youre toppower PSU... Had simlary issues with my Corasir HX 620w a wile back. Great psu, but i did not like my bulids, works fine in an other rig thoug... Now i have a Seventeam 650 wich is very stabile, One reboot after 4 staright days of prime  Donīt even think it was my PSU that gave up, problably my mobo.
Thanks!
PS. Yes, I know BIOS could be better .... :p:
Yeah! I think this is my PSU because when my CPU is @3315MHz 1.35V then I can push cards up to 860 core stable, when I change memory to 2600MHz then it's bad! On the other hand with CPU at 3500MHz 1.5V even stocks cards can cause a switch down... On a PSU sticker it says 18A max on each rail.... That might be a problem here :p:
My wife will kill me if I order another new part this month .... but it's worth the risk :D
What ram are you using?
Sorry if I have already asked (I'm old)
I'm almost certain it's not a cpu.
Lightman that is almost certainly your psu.
I was running an Opty 170 @ 2850 with 2 7900GT's (evga superclock) and my psu at the time (Antec neo-he 550) was flakey. And that was a solid psu IMO. Replaced it with my OCZ gamex700 and all issues disappeared.
Can you try hooking up that 2nd psu you have to just the vga cards?
I haven't got any figures but I've read at a few places that overclocking a cpu uses a disproportionate amount of power.
@mAJORD, have you tried going back to the F1 bios?
I found mine to be very stable, just missing too many goodies.
nah not yet Ausse, A certain idiot has used my waterblock/DICE block mounting bracket for repairing a lawnmower and also lost the screws.
I can't find anything else and the shops are shut.
I would like to jam DICE down their neck but It might kill them.
You may as well, it won't last long in this heat ;)
I reckon there might be one unpopular little brother in your household :explode:
Oh well now you will just have to sit back and watch the election
Sorry mate, I couldn't resist...
Hey mAJORD, I just found this on THG.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/...web/page9.html
Look at the photo of the bios and they're using bios F2i with the Gigabyte board and it's showing ram running at 800mhz.
They are using es chips, if that makes any difference. BTW what's your stepping?
I did that 2 days ago... Same thing...
Problem is that this PSU was powering 2xHD2900PRO@XT without too much of issues (except when oced I had same shut downs). It was pulling 630W from a wall easily, but now it's shutting down even around 400W. This, if anything to do with PSU, must be rail over-current protection. I presume that CPU plus primary PCIe slots are feed from ATX24+4 connectors and that is one rail...
To rule this out I will put Antec 500W into my rig and give it a go... Or I will try to hook up every single connector from 3 different PSUs :D
Update:
Problem solved! PSU!!
When I connected ATX 24pin from another PSU everything is stable like it should! :D
Some proof:

You people getting good results from this board are makeing me jealous heh.
Im gonna order a 4gb kit over the weekend and may as well pick up a cheapo OEM copy of Vista Home premium to while im at it, not much point in getting another 2gb kit if ill go Vista at some point it seems what with DDR2 prices being what they are, and i may as well play around with vista now if im getting a 4gb kit.
Also Im now looking for a new case as I RMAed the Lian Li A05, and Im not going Lian Li again, been burnt twice on them.
This board is really good.. till you stick a phenom in it!
SO I'm wondering if ANYONe has had any luck booting over 2.7Ghz with the 9500.. it is capable from a stability pt of view, It was stable on Air at this speed.
I have all the cooling in the world at my disposal and I'm certain exceeding 3Ghz will be possible with it when / IF this problem becomes fixable.
What voltage are you giving it now mAJORD?
The early Phenom Anand had when Barca was released was showing ~1.5v on cpuz. So I wouldn't think it's a cpu limitation.
Did you see the link I put up from THG? They oc'ed that cpu to 3.0 but they were using bios F2i on this board.
It is strange though that this limit kicks in with Phenom and not K8.
VVJ posted the F2i bios a while back, it's in this thread somewhere.
Anyway hows it performing at 2.7?
Edit:
On re-reading that page from Toms, nobody was allowed to raise the cpu voltage when overclocking, so maybe that's why it's been disabled for Phenoms.
That's my guess.
Yeah Aussie, thanks for the link. I had a looksie. IT seems they were OCing a 2.4ghz (12 multi), and were using overdrive, which doesn't work on the giga.
I've tried F2H now just not i, will give that a shot!
2.7 (2.67) is good, it's nice and stable, similar results to the guy using the M2N-SLI.
Thanks BadNizze!!
Regarding your memory setup I'm speechless
mAJORD today I made overdrive to work on my Giga ;) !
I was wondering why we can't adjust voltages from this utility and then I decided to give it a go with BIOS setting to Auto!
Easy! Now all sliders are working from Windows and I can change everything except vMEM and PCIe  .
Only problem was with memory voltage, because default 1.8V is no good for high clocks...
Luckily my memory has EPP profile defaulted to 2.2V so I enabled it and still can push memory to 1000MHz area with 4-4-4 timings! Seet :D !
Hope this will help..
BTW I tested my CPU further on this board and 3450MHz is 100% stable at 1.375V!!
3450Mhz @1.375V
Amazing :)
Very useful stuff about Auto setting ,lets hope mAJORD will have more luck with OverDrive and Phenom.SOme reviews mentioned that while BIOS OCing didn't work, they were able to OC Phenoms via the OD utility!
Check this cheaper board they have at the Egg. It looks great for 2 graphics cards or less. DS 5 anyone
Think im gonna order this and give it a try -
http://www.memoryc.com/products/desc...kit/index.html
Seems to be a good value and predicable kit in terms of OC Results from what ive read. Also uses very diffrent ICs from the Kit I have now which would be good as a troubleshooting measure prehaps.
Also do you people think its worth as a last ditch attempt at getting my current sticks FFT Blend stable at even stock settings giveing them the full 2.4v that the board can give ?
S1nn3r,
Down load memtest for windows and try that program. works real good in xp
Try one stick and then the other one at default settings. If still having problems
change from ddr 800 to a lower speed such as 667 etc. If all fails try sticks in another computer, good luck
This board can get rooted until a proper bios comes out
Now windows is corrupted  :shakes:
Worked so well with an X2 in it. Seems people are having more luck with Phenom on Nforce 5  , time to throw it in this crosshair with its dirty install
I have found overdrive to be hit and miss with my 6400
In bios I can set HTT to ~430 but with overdrive it locks up at 220:down:
Also I can only just hit 3.5 with this chip with overdrive and so far I've got 3550 using bios. I haven't tried for max oc in bios yet.
So I think overdrive still has issues or it's only really compatible with Phenom.
OTOH I read somewhere that Gigabyte don't support it yet.
hey, just ordered my DFI 790FX and should I get the 6400+ or Phenom 9500?
How is the 6400+ doing in terms of overclocking?
Aussie, if you can, throw the Phenom in the Xhair and see if it will boot into windows :O
mine BSOD's after login. I didn't have any problem going from K8 to K10 on the giga however, Some devices were detected though.
mAJORD Just out of curiosity i Flashed the new bios for my M2N32deluxe and by defaut even if i changed the Voltages it wouldnt run my X2!!!! ...So i flashed back to 1201 from the 1402 and 1503 bioses that were suppose to support Phenom and X2 procs...I think ASUS goofed up big time!
Whats wierd is the new Bioses is suppose to be able to run X2 or Phenom!...When i tried booting to windows with the X2 and 1503 bios it would show windows boot screen faded but loading still as if it had low voltage on boot and then it would just restart restart:shocked: ? Shouldnt it still run my X2 ... I can Access the Bios and change all settings fine. In Bios all functions work Normal and even the new function for the Phenom was optional in Bios. I do plan on getting a 9500-9600... I hope this pans out becuase the Asus mobos Oc pretty nice for AM2
yeah It's got the latest BIOS.
POST's and boots windows fine, I just can't login. I think a fresh install will do it :)
What's the difference between K8 and Phenom NB clocks?
What does Phenom clock the NB at?
Hi aussie FX,
The difference is in the way the clock is calculated.IN K8s the NB block is on the same power plane always and has the same clock as the rest of the CPU(so in your case the NB runs at fantastic 3.5GHz :) ).You can now see how big of a difference there is between K8s and K10s NB clocks.IN K10's case,NB clock is derived from the base HT clock and a multiplier(tictac described the way how it works in his latest post). The NB clock in 9500 model is 1.8Ghz and with 9600 model it should be 2Ghz(both of these are on both AM2+ and AM2 mobos AFAIK)
Also, since L3 is in NB block in K10's case,it works at the same freq. the NB is working. So OCing the NB should bring obvious improvements across the board for K10 since L3 latency will drop like a brick and mem. latency and bandwidth will greatly improve too(all data from memory to the CPU must go through the IMC,2 DCTs and finally L3 in order to get to the cores;there are SRQ and crossbar involved too but fir the NB the most important are IMC and L3)
Good luck with your Phenom :)
Phenom and this mobo is horror, i dont know my Phenom is crap or this mobo ... i cant to set higher FSB then 220, system freezes or no post, no boot ...
Mem dividers are flaky, my RAM i have on Intel at 1200MHz 15-5-5-5, and on this mobo is unstable on no boot at 800MHz 15-5-5-5, if FSB is 220MHz and divider is 800, i have to set 667 ...
I am really pissed, but i dont know what is crap ... mobo or cpu? Can someone with high OC on this mobo post some bios settings?
Ive ordered that 4gb G.Skill Kit(and Vista Home Premium 64bit to go with it) heres hopeing things work out better with G.Skill then Mushkin..
And on that note what benches, stress tests and temp/fan monitor apps work well on Vista 64bit ?
i have F2L
Overdrive is working perfectly fine for me under Windows XP x64, XP MCE and Vista x32 :D . I'm using Overdrive v2.10 (but in OD itself it says v2.09). I have oced my X2 6000+ from default to 3500MHz easily in windows :) . I must admit that Overdrive doesn't like CPU-Z or other advanced information tools in background though. Sometimes it will simply hand up. Other than that it's perfect. Thanks to it I can now set my vCPU form Win and save power when browsing internet :D .
PS. I'm on F2i BIOS  !
OverDrive works perfect for me with K8 processor, but i need it working with Phenom ...
EDIT: Bios F2H is better then F2L ... my max OC of Phenom 9500 with F2H is 2530MHz ... 230MHz x 11 ... any higher frequency no post ...
anyone else able to change the NB freq with WPCEDIT? not I :(
Received the G.Skill 4GB F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ kit today and with much exitement(Working prime blend here I come .. w00t) installed the sticks only to find this board will not boot unless I only use one stick
Board just gets stuck in a loop very early on in the POST, before display goes live.
I have spent the last hour messing with timeings/volts and DDR2 slot placement etc and it wont do it no matter how persuasive i am.
This board/setup hates me, and Im very much beginning to think this was not a good idea even though up untill this point ive been rather postive about the whole case and ram issues its getting to the WTF stage now.
It would seem prehaps this mobo is the problem but that doesnt help me much as I doubt I can return/RMA it, though I will of corse check up on this tomorrow.
I cant afford to swap out any more components for "process of elimination" style tests so unless I can get the Board RMAed and prehaps try another 790FX board this whole build may be on hold and/or mothballed for a while.
that sucks Aussie :( how stupid are they.
Crosshair booted just fine, but I couldn't login to windows.. BSOD.
Mustn't be happy with the new bus devices being detected.. perhaps a conflict somewhere..
An important thing I guess.. Do a clean install if upgrading from a dual, though it did work OK going from K8-K10 on the 790FX, a lot of new devices were detected.
Official F2L BIOS solves the TRAS issue (not mentioned in the changelog)!!!
Link
1. Modify EPP DRAM function
2. Support Secure Virtual Machine (SVM) mode function
And yes, a clean OS install is needed (for me Vista x64).
Well I have an RMA arranged for my board. Though I wonder if the offical F2L bios that speedlimiter just posted could be worth a try ..
i am testing phenom on old nForce AM2 mobo and results are many better then on this Gigabyte! I am sure this Giga mobo has serious error in PCB design ...
I tried the new BIOS, no luck.
Board gets picked up tomorrow, not sure what the outcome of the RMA will be to be honest as Scan is a Corsair only shop as far as memory goes, and i assume that goes for memory they have available for testing so their results may vary from mine.
I've got my Phenom yesterday but I'm away from home. Hopefully I will get my hands on it tonight :)
On the side note I sold my brilliant 6000+
Update:
I saw my Phenom!! It is:
CAAZB AA 0743FPCW
1924198K70269
So far I had only time to plug it in and start Win XP x64. No problems with that at all, just plug'n'play :)
Can't wait to go back to home and play with it ;)
The Gigabyte boards have a HT wall at 247-248 like the other 790FX-boards. We really need a better BIOS. With stock voltages i can do 11x248 max. The CPU has a lot more potencial i think. A voltage increase doesn't help. Also tried to lower the multi.
So now i'm stuck @ 11x245 ~2.7GHz for everyday use.
Well this board is hopefully being picked up today to go back to Scan for RMA(Have requested Refund)
Now I am left with a hard decision about what to do now as I have read the threads on the MSI and Asus 790FX boards and there seems to be somewhat of a consensus at the moment that the BIOS's on these boards are sucky. For my sanity and possibly my wallet depending on the outcome of this RMA I cant afford to get another screwy board.
So I am thinking at this point i should pick up a cheap "known good" OCing Nforce AM2 board to house my 5000+ BE and ATI 3870 and wait it out for a while on the 790FX front.
OBR,can you give us a hint about how much OC potential has your regular AM2 board (over your 790 GB board)?
Good news!!
New BIOS F3A which enables CPU multiplier available on Japan Gigabyte website!!:D
