Looks like I may have found the culprit a butt load of artic silver spread all over and I mean all over the PWM IC's causing a short and yes one of them is discolored orange. SOB who RMA'd this board as not compatible so now I can get it to power on. Still have to connect all the goodies. I'll post back shortly.
Okay well I finally got it spin up but I'm getting a C1 error. I've tried swapping between 3 different types of memory to no avail. I heard something about these boards having a really low default dram voltage and that could be causing the problems. Anyone know anyway around this?
what were the ram sets you tried already? did you try just one stick?
Okay well I finally got my memory to work but it only works in slot 4 so I think this board is going back.

Now the mobo defaults CPU to 2.8 (stock speed yes i know) BUT sticks the RAM at 800Mhz....CPU-Z says this is a 1:1 Ratio
If i up the RAM to 400/1066 then all is good but CPU-Z says its running on 3:4 ratio now.
Why doesnt it run at 400/1066 by default.
I have the RAM in slots 1 & 3 on the mobo.
I have a Qx9650 cpu, 2X2GB A-DATA DDR800 DDR2 RAM, DFI LP UT X48 with the latest final bios installed. The power supply is a Corsair HX620W.
I have tested so far on it the 4850,4850 in Crossfire and I am testing now a 4870X2.
I have a lot of weird problems with the X2.I had none with the 4850,even with the Crossfire setup. I first installed Cats 8.11, Vista 64 said that it is disabling one of the GPUs,during the driver installation. After some seconds, the screen went blank and I had to restart the system by guessing when the installation finished (when it asks you for a restart,you have to press Enter.).After the restart,the display was ok,in CCC both adapters appeared and but when I have started Vantage, in the Jane Nash test it was artifacting (like some spikes going up from the water). This spike problem was also present at 4850 Crossfire, but it was solved with a reinstallation of Vantage. Did a reinstall, but the same problem occured.
I have started after that Grid, and there were in the menu the same spike artifacts and then the screen went blank and CCC said the display driver was restarted.
I have uninstalled Cats 8.11,put 8.10. Now the GPUs were appearing in Device manager but with an exclamation mark, and Windows said the display driver could not be started. I have installed after that 8.10 hotfix. Same issue !
I have gone back to 8.11 and something very weird happened. Windows sees the 4870X2 like 2 4550 in Display properties, but ATI CCC sees the card correctly. Also,both GPUs are seen and also GPU-Z sees the both cards correctly.
I have ran this time 3DMark2006,no artifacts!Then ran Grid,which was artifacting,no artifacts! Then started 3DMark Vantage! Same spikes problem!
Could anyone tell me what could be the problem?Why the card does not work with the 8.10 Cats and why so many weird problems in 8.11?In 8.10, not even Aero interface was loaded.
Driver 8.11 is FUBAR, restore your system to a day way before you made salad with your drivers, remove everything from ati then install 8.10 from TweakForce or ATI.Quote:

you can do it, you may need to mesh the fins together with the true lengthwise oriented vertically but I don't think it is an issue with the NB HS flipped in the right direction.Quote:

i just got the board yesterday and vista isnt recognizing my 4gbs of ram. ive looked through the bios to enable memory re-map but its not there. is it named under something else or could it be caused by something else? i have latest bios on mobo.

There is no such option needed on DFI, it's plug and play. But then again you said you upgraded, did you Format and Clean Install the OS from the other machine? if not that may be your problem.Quote:

The LANParty UT X48, LT X48, and UT P45 seem to have 4 chokes around the memory. Two on either side. From the processor Buck converter we have become used to one choke per phase.
What does this configuration represent? Separate 2-phase supplies to each bank of 2? A single 4-phase supply? The inductors run in series for a different inductance.
Note that we are used the chokes being the same size. Here, one is 1µH and the other is 1.8µH. On the X48 boards, one of the chokes in each pair doesn't have a cover.

I hope that there is someone out there who will be able to help me. I have a DFI Lanparty LT X48 T2R board and i was running a 8800 GTS 512MB video card but I got a good deal on two Saphire HD 4850 Dual Slot cards (the one that has a new cooler that looks like the intel stock cooler). So i figured I would try running some crossfire action.
Well. I unstalled all Nvidia drivers and installed the Catalyst 8.11 drivers (win XP SP2) and tested the first card. I got some nice results but the fan seems like its running amost full speed all the time. The temperatures are great (40-45 degrees idle) and even if i set fan speed to 20% in CCC, the fan spinns down some, but still sound WWWWAY more then my old 8800 GTS. Anyway i then insrted the secound card and the fan is the same on that card to. I also installed both crossfire bridges. Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. I got a nice little message that told me to enable Crossfire, so i did. I checked GPU-Z and both cards ar listed and crossfire is enabled. However one of the cards run at PCI 4x only. The other run at 16x. Well i started 3dmark03 just to test the performance. The loading screen for the fiorst test was REALLY slow and the test got me about 20-40 fps in 3dmark03! I aborted the test and disabled crossfire and tested 3dmark03 again. Now i get abour 500fps. So it seems normal. I the tried to remove one of the crossfire bridges and this time i get 16x on both cards in GPU-Z but the bad performance still persist. I also unsinstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, no change. I testeted v 8.10, still no diffrence. I have tried the lastest intel chipset drivers. Still the same. Im clueless. I dont know whats wrong. Anyone got any idees?

Make sure that both your card run at x16 speeds.
Also, make sure you have enabled Crossfire from CCC.
And you only need one bridge. The one close to the back of the card were all the outputs are. (DVI etc)

yes. When i removed one of the bridges (the front one. So i have just one in the two back slots now). Both cards are now running at 16x speed. Of course Crossfire is enabled. Thets when i get the REALLY crappy performance (20-40 fps i the first 3dmark 2003 test).Quote:

I solved my crossfire issue. One of the card had a slight modified BIOS. I tried to use another fanmode in an attempt to make the card more quiet. Since it didnt wok i didnt flash the other card with that BIOS. When i used the original BIOS on both cards. It workes like a charm.Quote:

I have some problems with DFI LP DK P45-T2RS Plus and Nv9800GX2. I've tried all the BIOS-711, 725 beta, 812, 1003 without success. When I clock my system (CPU-4750, video 755/1944/1100), even I can not pass 3D Mark 06. This motherboard can be very good for Super Pi or to achieve higher FSB (I also rich 640 FSB), but I am not only overclocker, but gamer. I spent a lot of time for testing and changed with new RAM G.Skill 2x2GB 1066, because I read in some forums for incompatibility of RAM 1200, but I don't expect it would be incompatible with my video card. Owners of the 9800 GX2 suffer from poor driver support from Nvidia, and now from incompatibility of this motherboard. I think this is a problem of the BIOS of DFI, because I'm not only one. In DFI forum there is a lot of owners of 9800 GX2 with the same problem. I hope support team of DFI to do something about it with new BIOS. About the poor 3D performance with 9800 GX2, here are some results with my old Asus P5K Deluxe and E8500 C0@5084 MHz:

Try dropping you PCI-E clock back down to 100mhz
Tried that a while back but still no good, also ran card at stock but still get the odd freeze/reset.
Can you think of anything else or see any probs with my settings?

DO NOT run PCIE frq @ 110mhz you will kill your hard drives, cause errors and all around suck. no greater than 105 for 24/7 PCI-E

its a voltage multi for the cpu core and with it on auto it will overvolt your cpu, 100.23% means that u will have 100.23% of what u set the vcore to

Things have changed a lot since then and many of these settings are new to me.
This board/gen is certaintly a lot different to my old ASUS a8n-sli/opty :)
From what I have read it adds a slight more voltage when under load, if this is incorrect then please correct me = consider yourself corrected then. CPU VID is Vcore setting. CPU SPECIAL ADD will add a % of voltage TO the Vcore setting at any and all times.

also drop PCIE clock to 105 or lower, you'll literally kill your hard drives with that frequency

Heres a little info I worked out from the LT-X48-T2R i bought as a toy to play with :D
Host Clock Slew Rate
MCH Slew Rate Voltage Reference Points
Best behaviour should occur when all 3 are raised by same value, more important Vref1 and Vref2 should be the same. Vref3 should be raised by same as Vref1/2 but slightly less or slightly more might be beneficial at high FSB to help with slew rate matching between high and low clock.
Vref1 and Vref2 I'm pretty sure set the FSB_SWING Overdrive Region on either side of the crossing point, within Overdrive region clock edge flight time is calculated roughly and slew rate is matched between the driver and the receiver. Also matching is performed against the inverted differential clock opposing edge.
MCH Vref1 = AGTL+ Slew Rate Voltage Ref High at Receiver [ Vref3 + 200mV ], FSB_SWING Clock# to Clock (low clock to high clock), base = 00h
MCH Vref2 = AGTL+ Slew Rate Voltage Ref Low at Receiver [ Vref3 - 200mv ], FSB_SWING Clock to Clock# (high clock to low clock), base = 00h
MCH Vref3 = AGTL+ Slew Rate Voltage Ref at Driver (receiver references are calculated from this unless the slew rate of Voltage Out at the receiver is too fast or slow, then Vref1/2 offsets are used to calculate approx edge rate of the clock), base = 80h
MCH Ron = Slew Rate Resistance On, determines how long pins are held when switching between pull-up and pull-down drivers. The flat clock edge period is determined by this, longer hold time can be used to compensate against rising clock edge slew rate being too slow, and falling clock edge slew rate being too fast. Slew rate is V/ns, voltage per nanosecond.
MCH Rtt = Slew Rate Pull-up Resistance, determines rising and falling clock edge rates.
* lower Rtt gives slower rising clock edge rate and faster falling clock edge rate
* higher Rtt gives faster rising clock edge rate and slower falling clock edge rate
* since ringback is a problem on the rising clock edge due to Voltage out being pulled up to Vtt, we can assume this is a negative Rtt Offset as Intel engineers are much too smart to design a positive offset that has no real world gains!
MCH Slew Rate Offset = I think this is an adjustment offset for Voltage Out at the driver to offset against signal loss at the input buffer of the receiver
These values become highly important and valuable as you get closer to hitting your FSB Wall. Understanding their place is just trial and error. Change one at a time and note down any changes you notice even slightly :)
DRAM Drive Strength/Delay Locked Loop Skew Models (DLL)
I've got G.Skill PC2-8800 PI 2x2GB sticks running on this board in Dimm2/4 as DLL skew models seem to work best with 2GB sticks like this from what I've found.
Default DLL Model is 0, Default DRAM CK (clock) Drive Strength is 6, Default DRAM DQ (data) Drive Strength is 8.
Best values I've found for these are.
DRAM CK Drive Strength = 4
DRAM DQ Drive Strength = 5
DRAM DLL Model CHA = 1
DRAM DLL Model CHB = 2
Fine clock adjust = 25ps
Cross Clocking Skew CHA = More aggressive
*Dimm2 Fine Clock Delay = 575ps
*Dimm2 Fine Control Delay = Current
*Dimm2 Fine Command Delay = 275ps
Cross Clocking Skew CHB = More aggressive
*Dimm4 Fine Clock Delay = 500ps
*Dimm4 Fine Control Delay = Current
*Dimm4 Fine Command Delay = 250ps
Common Clock Skew CHA/CHB = More Aggressive
Skew between CHA & CHB should be no more than 60-70ps unless there is heavy signal degradation at high fsb/dram clock. Between Dimm1/2 and Dimm3/4 in each channel, no more than 25-35ps skew.

Vref offsets are for compensating for noise, ringback at the receiver, and the voltage crossing point shifting outside of the working range of the compensation circuitry and Vtt playing a part in this as well as it gets higher and higher :)
By moving the point we expect the high clock and low clock# to cross over (voltage crossing point), and also offseting each "overdrive region" reference voltage, (the 0.2V region either side of the voltage crossing point), the MCH becomes able to more accurately do BCLK edge rate estimation, which as FSB gets further past 400mhz becomes increasingly critical.
Higher FSB frequency means clock period becomes smaller, so without any kind of adjustment we hit a wall eventually when a FSB won't POST. As we approach this point by having access to these confusing as hell bios options we can bring the system back into similar tolerances if not better, as original at the expense of each set of values as they get higher their working FSB range gets lesser and lesser.
Enough about that.
I spent the last few days mucking around with DRAM DLL Default Skew Models and DRAM CLK / DQ Drive Strength values with my G.Skill PC2-8800PI 2x2GB sticks, which use Powerchip low voltage ICs still I believe.
I've come to the conclusion that the following 2 sets of values are suited best to these sticks.

I found gave no errors at 1165mhz on my sticks, with ch1/ch2/common clock cross clocking skews set to aggressive, and tRRD=4, tRTP=4, tRDWR=9
Model 0 works best with ICs that do aggressive CAS timings while very clean on die termination for data strobing.
Model 4 is somewhere in the middle, neutral CAS and so so data strobing, most likely 2gb sticks with 8 ranks.
Model 7 is what appears to the have the weakest skew model most likely for poorly binned or high latency ics.
Ultimately from what I've observed, the best way to figure out the right Skew Models is to run with default bios settings, base FSB and say 800 or 1066mhz DDR2, or 1066 or 1333mhz DDR3 and have all cross clocking on auto/delays on current, and try each different model pair. The optimal values for your memory will generally be when the bios calculates Fine Clock Delay for channel 1 memory slot to be around 300-400ps, Fine Control Delay around 700-800ps for channel 1, and fine command delay 70-100ps higher than Fine Control Delay.
When switching between models safest way is to clear cmos, then set new Skew Model pair. Otherwise the bios calculations can be corrupted and give you a headache of a time of what shouldn't be nearly that bad. If you see Fine Control or Fine Command Delay for Either channel with a value smaller than 90-100ps or they vary greatly from channel 1 to 2 then the calculations were corrupted, clear cmos before you try again or you end up chasing your tail like a dog!
so basicly these are the settings (along with gtl) are what need's to be played with when shooting for high FSB on a quad?

If Vref1 at Vref+200mV is used when slew rate at receiver is too slow and voltage crossing couldnt be accurately determined to increase slew rate speed by extrapolating back to Vref3.
If Vref2 at Vref-200mV (previous Vref point) is used to calculate voltage crossing point Vref3 after the voltage has crossed Vref +- 200mv, and it undershoots or overshoots back within the overdrive region, new Vref3 is calculated to extrapolate correct slew rate leaving the overdrive region.
As you offset Vref3, apply same to Vref1 and Vref2 to make sure that in all scenarios Vref3 voltage crossing point reference calculation comes back the same offset you set at Vref3, so that FSB clock slew rate is matched to Host BCLK reference, and that it also matches slew rate of DRAM clock, CPU clock, PCIE clock, etc for common clock address strobes.
These help break an FSB wall because the wall exists when the circuit design can no longer stay within minimum requirements for FSB clock period stability and validity.

If you are interested, take a read of this! It's probably the best documentation I've found describing AGTL+ design! It's a little old, but most design specs haven't changed all that much. It's a good read when you've got some spare time anyway!

I should be getting my LT version from the egg today sometime. I saw it for less than $200 shipped so I jumped at the opportunity for running crossfire. I am currently using an Abit P35 Pro running an X6800 @ 3.8 Ghz with a FSB of 540 Mhz with a 1 Gb HD 4870. I hope I won't be dissappointed with this board. I know I may have some difficulties running the same FSB as before but I am really looking forward to getting another 4870 for crossfire.Quote:

Playing with GTLs I managed to get he board to POST at 534FSB, but I had to jack up the NB volts quite a bit (1.61V) and I'm only running 1:1 333/667. Doesn't seem like I'd need that much vMCH...

Yesterday I finally had some spare time and decided to replace the stock NB cooler with a Xigmatek porter n881, as well as reapply some new AC MX2 and replace the pushpin mounting hardware for my Xig s1283 with a bolt thru kit...
After cleaning, applying TIM, mounting the new HW and reconnecting everything(or so I thought) I booted up the PC but was confronted with a LED code of 88. Like a dumbass I had forgotten to put the memory back in, but even after I did put the memory back in I still have an 88 code. I even went as far as to pull out the cmos battery overnight but nada.
So my question(s), what could I have possibly screwed up?
- corrupt bios?
- killed the NB?
- something else???
I appreciate any help/suggestions!

Try plugging in PS2 keyboard, and hold down insert then power on, dont release it untill it powers off or you see HDD led flash. Sometimes also turn off PSU for 10-15sec, then turn on and do same thing. Sometimes requires few tries but usually gets it going. That should do a full cmos clear. It usually works for me when nothing else works.

I'm very happy with ADC24 bios, DFI needs to add CPU and NB clock skew adjustment and the T2R will have a perfect bios. They included Cpu Clock0/Clock1 Skew in the T3RS bios, and having got Asus to add those options to the Rampage Formula bios without hesitation upon request I'm sure DFI would do the same if enough of us wanted them :)Quote:

Take note of the differences between CH1 and CH2 for CLK and Control Delays between Dimm1 and Dimm3 or Dimm2 and Dimm4 which ever you are using, and when setting your own delays take that difference into account.
On my board I have about 35-40ps between CH1 and CH2 clk, 130ps between CH1 and CH2 control. Command delay is safe to set same as Control Delay for that channel on slot with memory.

Just doing testing with my new Q9550 and these PSC g.skill sticks. Trying to not change skews manually and find dq/ck/dlls that match up without changes. I've tried a few combinations this afternoon so far the one I'm using right now is faring excellent.

I have a UT X48 TR2, great board, worked great for me for ages. Decided to take the jump to Vista 64 and at the same time go from 4GB to 8GB of RAM. I bought 2 additional 2GB Sticks of the same RAM.
1st time I try to boot with 4 sticks it stops at C1 on the post, flashed to latest BIOS, it boots but plenty of Memory instability becomes apparent. Run Memtest as soon as it gets to the 3rd dimm 4-6Gb it stalls. Run a windows memory checking tool, same again. Did some mucking around and its not a dodgy stick, whatever is in dimms 2 and 4 gives errors, all sticks pass memtest when just 4GB installed.
Memory is PC6400 running at 400FSB and timings are set by spd, tried varying the voltage from 1.8 to 2.1, makes no diff, tried upping the NB to 1.3V, again no improvement.
Any ideas?

Still can't get it stable with Aggressive/More Aggressive, I wonder if having lots of peripherals and drives running DMA mode has a bearing on this.
