I see some vendors in Germany are selling out of Gigabyte boards, discontinued product lines. The P35-DS3 is a dead line for sure. Many other boards are out of stock. Guess thats it for P35 and X38, they'll move all production lines over to X48 and P45.
Second from bottom PCI slot?...i always use that myself.
Is there a good way to figure out what the motherboard chipset is getting as far as voltage goes? Is there a program for this that I can use?
hey truehighroller
notice you got :
Q6600 G0 @ 3.6Ghz 1.38v~
Thermalright Extreme 120mm Fan
how hot you running using prime95 and measuring with coretemp?
amazing temp for such a high clock speed.
ive just had to turn mine down from 3.2 to 2.8ghz?(quad) during these hot days. i'm at around 64c at 100 percent (prime @ 2.8ghz , coretemp) using a Scythe ninja.
then again it is hot here.
i was at 3.24ghz at around 60c during the winter. i got a shock last week when the sun came out.
I want to know if there is a program to tell me what the voltages are on my mch exc.. Any one have suggestions?
(Oh sorry you did already post a screenshot)
Wow thats the best one i've seen. I think you are lucky because thats the only one ive seen that doesnt have spikes.
Ya i have it in the first (highest slot). I have tested in many different ways, with clean installs, sound card in , sound card out , different video cards, different ram, PSU etc etc.
I only notices it when i added a pci-e 2.0 video card to my system. When i had a pci-e 1.0 card like you it was ok so i dont know.
Truehighroller i dont think there is a program that can tell you that.
That sucks well what are the defaults then?

Well what happens if till the end of year Intel, finishes the new memo controller included CPUs ? :D
Will you buy another one, and change the CPU ?
Buying a new mobo right now, is like throwing the money on the window.
I think, I'll wait and see what intel is cooking. ;)
^...um, yeah!...i'll see what LGA1160 looks like and how much it'll cost to upgrade. I'll still probably transition anyways...though it's gonna be expensive as i'll need a new mobo/CPU and DDR3 memory.

I get most of my parts from Komplett. They have almost everything you can ask for in computer parts. There are a few things here and there that they dont have but can be found elsewhere though.
[EDIT] I wonder if Gigabyte is after forgetting the EX38-DS4 bios (Including beta) because they havent been updated in a while. Ive noticed that after over 36 hours of my machine being powered on and running it gets slow and slightly unresponsive with the mouse being slow too. Maybe I have a worse latency problem than I think. Ill get a latency reading after a few hours of my machine running and email it to Gigabyte.
I've updated the BIOS to version 9b and it also solved my latency issue. Of course, this means no more overclock. :(
Well thats good news...but you say F9b is mute as i can't O/C either.
Where did you guys get F9b?
I'm going to flash my bios to F3, i'm currently using F1. Is it OK to go from F1 to F3?
Also, if i want to use a USB stick to load the bios on, using Qflash, its there anything i need to do to it?
Just download the bios from the Gigabyte website, it's wise to have the USB flash drive formatted to FAT32 (i'd also check the flash drive for any errors or bad sectors just in case)...in Q-Flash it'll show up as HDD 3.0 (depending on what hard drives you have installed), highlight it and press Enter, you'll see an error message, ignore and press Enter a second time. The contents of the USB drives files will be displayed...locate the bios file (make SURE you have the correct bios for your mobo "x38-dq6" etc) and flash away, once it's done either hit Esc to restart or F10 to shut down, whatever works for you.
Thanks, i formatted it in FAT, i think thats fine? Qflash detected it. I'm about to try and flash it..
Should i go from F1 to F2, or F1 to F3?
FAT is fine also, you don't have to go from F1 to F2...in fact you can go from F1 to F9, be prepared to see new options and differences in bios, how the bios behaves will also change.
Thanks, the lastest out for my board is the F4a beta bios. Right now, i flashed it to F2. And i love it, before i couldn't hardly get past ~500FSB :D
This has fixed my problems, i'm probably flash to F3 later
New bios for GA-X38-DQ6 F9c
http://www.jzelectronic.de/jz2/index.phpQuote:
1. Fix Audio Latency
It's not up on the server for downloading...yet.
Do they have a new one for the EX38-DQ6 yet?
It'll appear Font, sometimes they test beta bios themselves before putting them up, if there OK they put up a link.
Release note for the latest Jmicron driver update have been upped to the FTP:
JMB36X RAID Driver Release Note
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R1.17.37WHQL
- Issue Correction
- System freezes for several seconds when turning on the power of hard disks.
I flashed to the latest bios for my board, F4a, the only difference in bios settings is the 0.5 multi option. Which doesn't work on my E8400 anyway.
I'm having alot of trouble getting 4.7Ghz, but 4.6Ghz is benchable. Still a huge improvement of F1, which couldn't hardly hit 4.5
EDIT: does anyone know that the "motherboard" temp goes to? its like.. it never changes..
YET another driver update from Realtek...889A, version 1.93: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
cool, whats the highest FSB or clock you have gotten so far?
EDIT: nevermind this post :p:
Anubody got a Q9450 on this or any X38 mobo yet to share experiences with? I'm not having the most exciting overclocking experiences with mine.
I have the Q9300 and mine are about the same not to good. I need a new bios bad, mine is crippled the way they "GigaByte" has it right now. It just wont get past the cold start thing and it pisses me off. I have to pump way to much voltage into the mch to get it to stay stable as well and by that time, it starts to over heat and locks up so,,,,. Me neither.
Anyone got a link to BIOS F9c for the GA-X38-DQ6?
Another driver update from Realtek, 8111B/C LAN drivers dated May 20th: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Did F9c appear?
Hot damn!, another HD audio codec update...new driver version 1.94: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Does anybody know of a site where I might get the bios for my EX38-DS4 modded and maybe lower this latency.
[EDIT] Just took a pic of my latency

You can go through support but its probably quicker to email this guy:
janus.yeh@gigabyte.com.tw
Just tell him your model board and ask for the latency fix
Thank you Buggalugs:yepp::up:
The f4a beta is more stable than any other bioses I have in the board (Dont forget this is an EX38-DS4) and it allowed me to get the OC I have now. Problem is the hight latency I have though. Im waiting for a response tfrom Gigabyte about my problem though.
I think GB have forgotten about the X38, no update now in over 6 weeks.
Yah it would be nice if they made my board more capable of overclocking my new Q9450. I can get it to 465x8 and it goes kapoot after that. I know it isn't the chip the chip is more then happy to go there. They need to fix the straps to. I can't get the 2.4b strap happy with performance level 6 for :banana::banana::banana:. The 2.66d strap will go there happily and it doesn't like anything else but the 6. I'm probably going to get an Asus motherboard next time if they don't come out with a solid bios soon.
I hear there will be a new stepping of the new 45nm quads by intel... it figures... with the low OC potential they have been proving to have when compared to the duals, it was something that intel needed/wanted to revise.
Still, they decided to EOL the Q9450, which is kinda odd since there has been such demand for that chip... Intel seems a bit confused right now with both their fab processes.
I'm kinda annoyed by this actually, sooo soon after release (even though it's still hard to find Q9450's) they are discontinuing the Q9450 + making a new revision stepping. So you get hit twice...the problem is the resale value of the Q9450 will drop like a stone and no one will want them at a reasonable asking price, they will want them for half nothing (compared to what you spent to buy them)....sucks.
you know when they release a new model, they ALWAYS limit it in first release phase. version 1.0
ALWAYS limit the design, and the functionality
doesnt matter if it's a cpu, gpu, mb or mobile phone.
why???
they want you upgrading, but sooner rather than later.
this way they get more bang for their R&D dollars.
you think these incredibly smart engineers work on a chip and its design for years and then AFTER release say, hang on a minute, what if we did this?
and presto you have the improved design (revised stepping), think x48 think 8800gt (and q9450)
that's why version 1.0's become obsolete very quickly
more upgrades = more sales = more $$$$$$$
for me the 8800gts is like version 1.0 and the 8800gt is like the 1.1 or 2.0
same with the x48 it'a a version 1.1 or 2.0 of the x38
same with the q6600 B3's (v1.0) and GO's (v1.1 or 2.0)
that's why if you can, for a new chipset always wait for version 1.1 or 2.0
Just saw that jzelectronic has added bios ver 9c for the X38-DQ6 to his downloads.
Now we need one for EX38-DQ6 ;)
...X38-DQ6 F9c is online

I finally got a reply from Gigabyte support and the guy has no clue what I am saying , asked what exact ram I have and where I got the F4a bios. He didnt give any bios or answer to fix my latency. So Im going to email janus now.

I emailed him earlier and hope he replies. The Gigabyte support are just being idiots about it and asking me stupid questions.
I flashed to F9c which is dated May 25th 2008...the layout of the bios has changed. M.I.T. is now the very first item in the menu (like what will happen with P45 based bios), inside the layout has changed slightly, i don't think any new options were added...just various voltage settings are grouped together different. The "CPU Fine Clock" option is totally greyed out now and cannot be changed.
I had major issues overclocking and O/C settings being accepted, even now while i'm in Windows i have two serious issues, the Performance Level is set to 8 according to Everest (latest build) even though 6 is set in bios (on Auto), and my CPU multi is locked at 6x when in bios i have i set to the standard 8x....so basically this is a botched bios.
[edit] know what, the problem could very well be with Everest 4.50.1383, because when i stress the CPU with Prime95 and OCCT CPU-Z shows me 3400MHz and an 8x multi. Tread Phase Adjust in bios was set on auto to "6", when i manually set it to 7 and checked Everest it was 7.
Gonna have to do more testing.
Richard how the hell do you get the bios off that German site? I clciked the Gigabyte link that lists all the bioses but its not there. Where can i find it?
Or maybe you can just put it on Rapidshare or something.
Edit Nevermind Richard i figured it out.
I havent noticed any issues with the F9c. Everything seems to be working right for me. Latency is much better, only occasional spikes now.
More weirdness, i tried an older build of Everest and the same issues i reported above happened with that, also Vista reports my CPU speed at 3200MHz...when it should be 3400??...dunno, something is not quite right with this bios.
ok, I upgraded but didn't reset DMI info. saved my profile right after rebooting then coldbooted (powercord trick to avoid boot loop) with the usual profile. But first I tried 2.50A strap again but to no avail. I guess my Q6700 doesn't like that one, period. Stuck with 2.40B.
Latency didn't changed for me, it goes between 50 and 800/900 us as usual. Apart from the different menu configuration, everything else stayed pretty much unchanged. At least after superficial testing.
what I'd really like GB to fix is that annoying cold boot problem.
Yah the cold boot prob is bull :banana::banana::banana:. You can play with your performance level setting and probably get that strap working. I figured that out last night messing with mine. Certain straps only like certain performance level settings..
There is a new BETA driver for the Jmicron 363 up on the FTP: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/W....17.38Beta.zip
R1.17.38Beta (05/23/08')
- Issue Correction
- Some systems can't be shut down if ODD is connected.
Looks like I am getting some problems with the new bios. Overclocking and bios is ok but getting some strange windows errors like services shutting down, audio dropping out totally and i have to reboot to get it back and a couple of BSOD's. Some apps are crashing too. Alot less spikes but i cant live with a system like this.
I got some stuff on Ebay and as soon as it sells im getting a new board.
Hi, any stuff for gigabyte EX38-DQ6?
Mine doesn't allow more than FSB360 on E2140, wich was running FSB450+ on Commando.
Any bios settings, more than FSB 360, after reboot during bios settings and savings, resumes at FSB360...
And cannot boot from floppy...
But in windows, floppy works ok...
Dammit, what's wrong?
And first time, with E8500 FPO Q748A212, I've done SPI 1 Mb @ fsb 550 with only 0,1 volts in + for Vfsb and Vmch, and after normally reboot, with same settings, doesn't allow more than fsb 515 for 1 Mb spi, with any settings or voltages...
What the F**k...
@lien motherboard?
New Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers, WHQL dated April 20th 2008 and version 8.1.0.1001: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PM2N5ERG
Thats it, you have to manually enter subtimings. I'm using 2.50A alright here, but i had to set a smll few bios changes at a time whereas before with F9a i could make all the changes in one go.
Official Intel Matrix Storage Manager, an even newer version with QHQL drivers dated May 7th 2008: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...llName=Windows Vista*&lang=eng
Version 8.2.0.1001, you can also download the standalone drivers for OS installation for XP/Vista via Floppy or USB flash: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...Name=&lang=eng
I just finished flashing from F8c to F9c and it worked perfectly well via Gigabyte's @BIOS utility. Indeed the MIT options is now the first one on the left side of the BIOS main menu. I've entered all of my OC settings (signature) and they worked well. I'll test them again over night just in case but I'm pretty certain that it hasn't made it worse, but certainly the same or just better.
So far all is very stable, and I noticed an extra 130'ish points increase in my EVEREST's Benchmark for the Memory latency. Is that the latency that has been "fixed"? Because I often read around that there was a "latency issue" but I don't know what it was, I don't recall ever seeing any latency issues with my previous F8c BIOS.
I got an F4b Bios from Gigabyte a few days ago after 2 days of questions from them. Havent tried the bios yet because I havent been home with 5 days.
[EDIT] Ive just tested the F4b bios and I cannot OC with it. Also it makes the Latency problem worse.
try pressing ctrl+f1 again Steve, but yeh if you have worse latency, maybe stick with the other one.
