$200 shipped at Amazon.com pre-order: http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Radeon.../dp/B001ASJJ4Y
My config nets me decent avg fps at 1440x900 with EdgeAA....modified and improved Luxus Silentium config....
Seriously, try adding 'ai_interestsystem=1' to your autoexec.cfg, enemies stop being quite so thick ;)
Yep - its a cvar thats included, but disabed by default, unless you add it to a config.cfg.
You should look at the cvarlist sometime, it very interesting to look through:

jimmyz!!!!
Can that be real the performance of 4850 and 4870 or it's the next fake??? To me it looks promising and authentic, but to be honest that's what I want to see from the cards, so my opinion is little blurred :).
dammit!!!
Are we there yet ? :p:
When does the 4870X2 launches, August ?
I think the difference in percentage is the decisive one, because it "moves" into different resolutions, so if you have tests of 9800GTX in one game and you know the difference it is far easy to calculate the fps of the ati cards. :) But in fact video cards don't perform in the same way in different res. It depends on a lot of constants.
P.S. @jimmyz, you're talking about a 4850 or what???
Ok as of falling asleep last night, I got most 3dmarks run at 4ghz and default clocks, also ran most at 4ghz with 700/1100 clocks. Crysis is being a PITA. I had to reinstall, I will get the patchs installed and run this afternoon. I have the review almost done, Unfortunately I have to drive for about 4-5 hrs today, I will be back around 12noon EST. probably have my crysis done by 1pm, also gonna do call of juarez, WIC, and lost planet. as well as trying to find a fan sped control program.
He, He, VoltMod Thread started even before the card is relesed. How is that possible
Only at XS  Thanks jimmyz
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=190990
how will these compare to gtx280 after volt mods?
Gamesss :slobber: :bows:
Maybe we'll just have to wait for @jimmyz to post game results from his 4850 and then we can be completely sure whether this is fake and the specs are 800sp or the specs are 480sp, as firstly known, and the tests are genuine. We've seen a lot of 3d mark tests, so now we want games :yepp:.
LMFAO ...
The 3850's that I bought for £70 each have just gone back up to £99!
I will try and sell them for £80 each and buy a 4870.
Great should be done by the time i finish work makes for some great late night reading
Any word/rumor on fullcover blocks for these cards?
Are you serious?? Even the fullcover ones? If so then that is awesome!!
I hope they match up. Would love to be able to pick up some EK FC nickel blocks for the 4870X2 when it emerges without having to wait for Eddy to get a card to develop around.
Yeah exactly =) Right, back to the sitting and waiting.
this guy already bought a powercolor 4850 in Hongkong

worked for me looks nice but a 4850 isn't my cup o tea I wanna see dem 4870 pics PLZ :)
1GB 4870 please :)
Though with the aggressive pricing of the GTX 260 (if true), it might just make more sense to buy that if the 1GB is going to be > $350

is the 4870 launching with 1gb gddr5 or 512 gddr3, im sick of 512mb cards.......any official word?
I doubt that. If you look at the pictures that are cirkulating, you can see that the mem-chips are in a different config. Maybe some fullcover blocks will fit anyway, but not those with elevated areas for the memory.
4850 Top
3870 Bottom
Edit: Whoops Stargazer relplied while I was creating this beautiful picture comparision
Ah kk. Ty :)
I'm pretty traditional thinker when it comes to liquid cooling. I've never approved of full-cover GPU blocks due to their size and weight (which should decrease going from air to water imo, not increase) and seeing OPP and Shamino use GPU blocks + copper ram chips has embedded that image in my head :D
Perkam
Weird how the box of the Powercolor 4850 doesn't even tell us SP count or specs
ATI must've REALLY tried hard to keep things under the table this round...
Is everyone else not paying attention to how hot it is at idle? Like, 68C at idle.
I'm worried about the heat of this card.
Or maybe the fan doesn't spin at idle? lol.
I'd like to know.
my hd3870x2's Idle at nearly that temp because of drivers keeping fanspeed fixed at verry low speed however under full load it barely goes up another 10deg.....
I did end up wireing in a external fan controller for the cards. For some reason using Rivatuner to crank fans to 100% would cause my OC to become unstable (robbing power from the card I guess but the external power supply to the fans cured that).
We have just put together a £600 system with a P5Q, E8400 and 4850. CPU will be clocked to ~4GHz. We'll be testing it on Monday.
Probably use 3DMark06, Vantage & Crysis any other requests?

There you go.

Well looks like AMD continues 38xx policy here.
Not satisfied with one card performance?
Buy secound or third...
For me thats ok.
They do run those temps at idle.

No, a 4850 on a P45 board. If the leaked benches are true then the 4870 will out strip a 9800GTX by 30-40% and if the above ATi marketting gumpf is right it will also wallop the next gen nVidia cards. From what I've seen with our 4850 the ~30-40% over the GT is about right and ATi have finally nailed the 4xAA bug with the 4800 series.
I've only had one recent nVidia card, G92 GTS and it done me proud, we used my OC settings for an SLi system that's had some good reviews. Given that the 4870 will retail for ~£150 and the cheapest GTS I can find is £156 then it might be a worthwhile upgrade provided that the leaks are true.
Historically, ATI Fan Profiles are set in a conservative way in that the fan will only spin up when it gets really hot. Most of the time it crosses this threshold in 3D only......even if that means idling at 60-70. The chips can withstand this heat no problem. I don't see what the big fuss is over temperatures anyways, most of us are just going to replace the cooler on Day 1 anyways, and you can always use a different fan profile via Rivatuner or Bios Editing once the tools get updated
I have my trusty old Accelero S1, just waiting to have a nice warm 4850 to cool. Acctually think I´m going to lap it to night, so its of to a good start.
Or is it worth the effort?
ATi HD 4850 has been sold since the beginning of this week in Indonesia, for 220 US$ price. Some people who has been using it say that it's matching or slightly faster compared to 9800 GTX @1280*1024, and the gap is getting wider as the display resolution and IQ setting scale up. From that price, i believe the launch price in USA shouldn't be any higher than 200 US$, since VGA card price in my country is always around 10-20% more expensive compared to north america MSRP.
I don't know about anyone else, but it doesn't excite me much that a new generation card is beating a last generation, even accounting for the price points.
If Nvidia scales up performance by same amount for their next gen stuff, AMD will still be behind.
Noo, same here. I dont get excited at all. Wish they would stop with this silly "develpoment" crap. Faster, cheaper, better, competing, with each other, Bah. However I love a good game of miss Pacman, like in the good old times.
Ok, I was being iroic, please dont hate me, but I do get exited about it :D
i'm so happy with this confirmed news the strong pressure from ATI
and Seeing Nvidia in their nvidias for the first time in more than 2 years
awsome work ATI... congratulations
Update on the teperature info, stock was 79c idle. I took off the cooler and cleaned it for photo's. when i re-installed it I used A.S. Ceramique and now idle is 54c the stock goop was way too thick I guess.
That's correct, but in games that nVidia G92 has a huge lead over ATi RV670 -Lost Planet for example- HD 4850 could only narrow the gap. OTOH, the impression from my colleagues in local IT forum that has been using the card for the past 2-3 days, the card feels much more consistent through out the game and pretty strong with cranked up IQ setting compared to RV670 cards -aka, it's no longer a benching card, a stigma that's been carried by R(V)6xx cards for quite sometime.
Ofcourse, take it with a healthy dose of salt, since this is not a first hand info right away, but the fact that the card is in distribution already in my country is very provable. :)
Thanks for that, I'll bear it in mind for the review rig, hopefully re-gooping it can help get a higher OC.
I hated my first 2900 stock cooler so much that I blew it up! Am tempted to get a couple of 4850s to replace my current 2900XTs.
why would you do such a thing? That could have not only been very dangerous because of the possibility of the pressure getting too high and the heatpipes bursting, but also you never know what could be in those fumes that could kill you.
That was a bad move imo for you own health and safety, next time just throw away what ever you do want
hey guys check this out, one of my friends noticed this with the 800 SP slide from nordichardware, the pixels of the writing and numbers have different resolutions, meaning that someone might have photoshopped it
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...faceGFlops.jpg
it shouldn't change, which is showed by this picture he made
I don't think I'd have the balls to heat such a thing with a torch
I'd be too scared it was going to pop and spray burning hot vapors and copper in my face.
My thread is up now, benching coming soon. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...88#post3059788
Look at his review thread and look at the size of the chip
Looks MUCH larger than the RV670 was... the 256mm^2 rumor might not've been true...
Yeah that would make more sense, looks a bit larger from that point of view
I can't seem to find the dimensions glancing around. Will these cards be any longer than the 9800 series for example? In short, will they, and likely the 4780x2, fit in a 900 without issue?
Sorry to ask a silly question covered 15897 times, but I can't remember offhand: was the 4870/4850 pushed back to June 26th, or are they still the 17th or so?
The 4850/4870's are all 9" long I believe so if you have an ATX motherboard, it should be fine
HD 4850 has 800SP
Fact or fiction ??
it seems real ;)

So who is going to xfire 4850 to 38**? :D
Cool :)
Hope nothing fizzs :censored:
