I used the same basic cooler on my P35-T2R WITH thermal pad and it still shorted out

(It bridges them all.) Luckily, I don't think my board was damaged.
Quick question. Seeing 42C idling for an hour with the Noctua NC-U6 northbridge cooler...is this higher than normal? I'm not overclocked yet. Ambient is about 22C.
Just thought I would mention that my DFI LanParty P35-T2R MB shorted out when I switched to Thermalright Mosfet 9U cooler, even though I used thermal tape and had insulating washers between nut and bolt (had to modify mount/cut off ears for push pins).
Am now waiting for new DFI X38-T2R, but won't use the Thermalright cooler in future. However, I will add an extra fan to cool PWM area.

I'm pretty sure that 90% of them dying is due to lack of contact between the stock heatsink and the chips... Browse this Thread and you'll see that they come of the chips in very little time of use.
Combine that a 2.2v-2.39v = death in about few months without the heatsinks to cool them.
