Anyone has any idea why my P5Q Deluxe doesn't allow me to set vcore below 1.2500?! My Q9400's VID is 1.1750 BTW.
I'm using latest 2201 BIOS, but this hasn't changed anything. with the previous BIOSes it was the same: below 1.2500 is only AUTO setting...
Have you tried to reflash the bios and pop the battery for an hour after the succesfull flash ? would try 1406 Bios mate.

What I have tried was to flash it to an earlier BIOS, but EZ Flash doesn't let me do it, tells me it's an older one. Will try it again, 'though.
But this should work with the latest BIOS, right? I've seen people in this thread talking about 1.21-ish vcores and they're running 2005 or the likes. This simply doesn't make sense to me.
Other than that, the board is running fine and I'm very happy with it. But I just know that this CPU will run 3.6Ghz with a lower vcore and I'd like to try it. Anyway, if it doesn't work at all, it's no biggie...

Your Dlx has got 2 bios chips, I would swap the left with the right. Then flash without any OC ( just set Ram voltage to the correct value) to 1406 and hopefully it will be fixed then... really sounds like a corrupt flash to me
I have gotten 8GB stable on my P5Q Deluxe with 1406 bios for quite some time. I have upgraded to 2101 recently and it seems to work well too. However the BIOSes between 1406 and 2101 were not stable with my Q9450.
What are your settings?
I was unable to get my memory stable at above 950 Mhz with 4 dimms populated.

i try to increase Row Refresh Cycle Time to 60. but it does the same, not stable...
i try to increase vNB to 1.5v, my system boots into windows and freeze...
now, i run with 6gb ram so good with this setting but with 8gb, my system is not stable ...

Have you tested each stick seperately ? could be one dimm is not 100%; Also 1.4Nb voltage for just 400FSB is way too much, these P45 chipsets are very itchy temp wise...drop down to 1.26-1.3.
Also since you are having ram issues why boost performance level ?
Plus why don't you leave all GTL values at auto ?, I hardly think CPU tweaking is involved for just a mere 3.2Ghz, same for FSB term and CPU PLL... you are just pumping volts.
AUTO really does magic on these boards...

Guys got a new CPU, i've lost hope on my Quad Xeon to reach 4ghz.. anyways i have a Q9550 E0. Any suggestion on the settings for a 500x8.5..? im new in 45nm. im not yet familiar on the voltages regarding 45nm processor.. any inputs will very much appreciated..

You have to tweak the FSB Term and the NB GTL value then, also loosen TRFC value as with 4 dimms you are stressing the NB harder than with 2. More volts for the NB isn't always the solution. First try to find the lowest FSB Term and NB volt value for 2 dimms and work from there. For the ram subtimings don't push Light or co leave all them values AUTO, just put static read control to disabled.Quote:

I can recommend the new Memtest 2.11. Google that program, create a bootable cd. Launch it and run test 7 first. Let it run for a few passes, then go Test 5. If both are error free then you find the sweetspot for your mobo.
I think you are asking a bit too much and would haven been far better off with a Q9650 mate. Most of the latest 9450/9550 seem to be very dud clockers. Be realistic and aim for a real value like eg 475FSB. Also these boards run far better with a divider then with 1:1. So if you aim for 500FSB and the rams at 1000mhz it's far harder to stabilise. I had great succes once I could get the ram of the divider , but for 500FSB you need rams that can do 1200mhz.Quote:

I'm getting the P5Q Deluxe (together with Q9550) in a few days, and have been doing some research, so I'm ready to configure and setup my system asap when I get it.
I will for sure update the bios to 2201. But I'm wondering about one thing.
I prefer to use afudos to update the bios, and all the guidelines I've read tells;
-to make a bootable floppy
-put the "afudos.exe" on that floppy
-in addition the "bios.rom" file on that floppy
But (sorry for my french), how the h*** can you fit all those files on the same floppy, when the bios alone is 2mb and the floppy is limited to 1.44mb? :confused:
Can you make 1 floppy "bootable" with the "afudos.exe" in it, and another with the "bios.rom" file in it? and does both need to be "bootable"? But then again, the "2201" bios is still 2mb and cannot fit onto a floppy.
For the record, I don't have a USB stick available.
Also, if you know which is the latest "afudos.exe" available, provided with a download link - I would really appreciate it.

Save BIOS file.ROM into a simple folder in root and then restart computer, go into BIOS and start EZ-Flash and navigate to your folder and select file, very easy, very safe! :)

Well my system is up and running, however there's 1 thing that's very enoying.
My CPU fan is spinning at 2450rpm (which is max - using Zalman 9700), and even though I've set the bios to "Silent" for the CPU it keeps spinning on max value.
I did some search on the inet, but didn't find anything in particular - only people having other kind of problems. I installed the AiSuite as well, and the "calibration" doesn't seem to work - because it a constant number for all %-values.
Is this a known problem? or something that's easy to fix?
The pin on the CPU fan is 3-pin, and not 4 btw.

You have to have a 4-pin pwm fan connected to the 'CPU_Fan' plug on the motherboard to regulate the fan. You might try a 'Fanmate' and connect to your power supply or get use to the hurricane!Quote:

You really do not need a ton of vFSB or vNB on this board.
It's very much a finesse mobo though.
Brute forcing by using higher voltages pretty much never works...believe me, i've tried.
If you spend time with it, get your vFSB & vNB & GTL perfect (and yes, they have to be perfect or you will get nowhere), it's not bad.
I actually sold my UD3P because i found for 8 GB, my P5Q-D was a more solid board, a lot less flakey.
For 2x2 GB, no question, UD3P is miles better.
But at least for me, my P5Q-D i much preferred for 8 GB.
You are only at 450MHZ FSB, thats why your volts are so low. ;)

Quite pleased with my EO q9550 and p5q dlx combo so far, currently have it small fft stable at 3.8ghz, (8.5x450) vcore in bios of 1.21875, 1.200 idle. 1.216 prime load (1.2vid chip) 1.54 PLL, 1.26 NB and VTT, if i can eek 4ghz out of it ill be more than happy.

Been a while since I tried pushing my Q9450 + P5Q-Deluxe. I'm already at 1.4Vcore and at a prime-unstable (but life-stable) 3600 (450 FSB) running 8GB of ram at 1080 all on the 120* bios (maybe the 1406). Just threw a whole bunch of numbers...
Should I bother trying to push it even further by getting the latest BIOS revision and going through the whole process again? I have a pretty bad chip so I'm prepared to just consider myself lucky and live with this. Are any of the more recent BIOS gamechangers?

That depends on which bios you have. From my experience only 1406 and 2201 were stable. All the ones in between didn't work well for my Q9450. You should not need 1.4 with Line load Calibration enabled to hit 3.6.
What GTL's do you have set?
Perhaps try my settings a few posts earlier. Those worked with 1406 and 2201 bios.
