Even Gigabyte's old V-Tuner had minor voltage adjustments..... :(
From my emails SOC Tuner will raise it, I will check tomorrow when the beauti arrives...
As far as I understand, the SOC ES samples support software overvolting, but the retails don't. Please, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.
I will let you guys know in a bit.
I'm setting up the rig & windows right now :)
Don't worry, be it hardware, be it software mods we will get the job done ;)
Nice pic RAID. Does putting it in OCmode change the max Volts??
no, i don't think so. let me double check...
edit: nope
Hey! I didn't get that app :D
Can you please send it to my e-mail or give me a link if it's available online ? ;)
Don't think it's hardlocked Pieter, the Vddci, Memory Voltage & PCI-Express voltage work just fine.
The GPU Core voltage however isn't working.
Thanks Raid...I'll check back tomorrow as I'm done for tonight. Lightning, FAIL...GB SOC not looking good, anybody know if the ASUS Matrix is wide open??
I think its all come down to the yields, which after the first few cards shipped out to get us in a lather just didn't pan out. Ratz....wanted to give ATI one more bash before flippin over to Fermi.
Good Luck tonight Bill.....
Looks like the whole GPU Core voltage thing is a mistake ( hardware engineers making changes after the software development team "finished" the application :p: ).
For the hardcore modders, there's always the Vmod, but the software will more than likely ( I'm just 98% sure, that's why I'm not using the word surely :p: ) fixed too soon ;)
That's great news Bill...ok, not getting too excited...but I've been fanging for these cards for a long time......
One way to control the GPU core voltage with a hardware mod is a VID mod.
Similar to the GTX 260 Super Overclock mod posted in the Xtreme VGA Mods on this very forum.
I'm about to check if I can find out how to control the voltage via software in a bit.
Sorry didn't do much because I had to go out to pick up my sister :D
I'm awaiting for some good news from Gigabyte, and I'm also going to try a few things in a bit.
working on it fellas
it's probably good that this version of SOC sw i have hasnt made it out yet. There are a couple of things to sort out
this new retail card seems nice :)
So this means that even if things are not working 100% right now....SW voltage control will work eventually, right Dinos?
I'm personally a bit disappointed that Gigabyte didn't stick with the original beta interface that was just so much more simple. I just don't like these big, complicated UIs with a ton of buttons which seem to need an instruction manual just to get it working right.
what are you talking about
mia i guess so
The software interface that the retail cards ship with. They could have fit that all into a design that was much more user friendly. The SoC Tuner interface was posted earlier in this thread.
i havent seen it
screencap?
+1.....I totally agree  The first one is the better of the two. Although I don't mind something inbetween either (like MSI AB).
"OC Guru Graphic Card Smart Tuner"....heh, give me a break

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...ntitled2-2.jpg
i see what you mean heh
I love hardmod more than software. Real good 3D ocers will understand what I mean.:)
Got my card...OC Guru was on the disc and is working fine for me
Pics of the card posted in the v-mods section if anyone wants to work on it before I get a chance to try ;)
Tested mine today and OC Guru works fine for RETAIL card and Vgpu raising up to 1.30v.
Now all you have to do is the VID mod to 1.40v and then use OC Guru to raise till 1.6 if needed :D
Card clocks very well on air.
So the only one for whom the software doesn't work is me ?
That sounds so typical of me and my f*ing bad luck.
1. Software voltage control not working.
2. Card dieing without a reason.
Nice...
card died????
Of course it would, if something can clock crap ( this time it was impossible, since it was pretested by a nice person at Gigabyte :p: ) it'll come to me.
If something's about to break, surely it'll come to me.
VID mod to 1.35V.
Real voltage applied 1.4V ( stupid thing overvolts by 0.04 - 0.05V ).
30 secs of operation at 1.4V on air cooling, boot into Windows, check temp ( 43C ), moving the CCC window a bit to open up DRHDRIBL to check if the voltage stays put or droops on 3D load I notice that there's some color washout in the CCC titlebar.
Opens up DRHDRIBL and artifacts all over the place.
Shut down immediately, VID mod to 1.25V ( 1.3V real )... test again, artifacts again.
I think it's a bad memory chip or a broken solder joint ( gonna bake the card in a few mins )
Nope, warming up the card in an attempt to get some joints "re-done" didn't work, card still artifacts :(

Gigabyte Super Overclock vs HIS iCooler V Turbo X vs MSI Lightning
Today we're looking at a trio of videocards that have their sights set on the enthusiast market. Factory overclocked Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards from HIS, MSI, and Gigabyte have landed in our lab and its time for another round up.......

Gigabyte HD 5870 SOC Review
A bit of a trend these days among ATI's partners selling Radeon HD 5870 cards is literally 'who's got the biggest e-peen'. It is very nice to see them push the limit further and further in producing the fastest pre-overclocked Radeon HD 5870, yes I am talking about OC (overclock) models which ATI apparently allows to be made nowadays.
We have seen models from HIS, MSI, PowerColor, ASUS and now Gigabyte is releasing an overclocked Radeon HD 5870 as well. Gigabyte did it properly I can already state, they overhauled the PCB, used first rate components, changed the cooling solutions and badabing badaboom... there it is. The Radeon HD 5870 SOC edition graphics card.
Gigabyte's Radeon HD 5870 SOC is not 'just' a pre-overclocked card, they are really serious about it. At default this card comes clocked at a 950 MHz core and the memory is purring steady at 5000 MHz, so that's another 100 MHz on that core and another 200 MHz on the memory......

Gigabyte HD 5870 Super Overclock Review
The dust has mostly settled from one of Nvidia's largest ever launches, the introduction of the GTX 480. However, whether due to popularity, a small initial production run -- or both -- the GTX 480, and to a lesser extent the GTX 470, had up until recently been very hard to come by in hardware stores, even up to about four weeks after the official launch of the product. But this situation is changing: the initial rush is over, and the GTX 480 is much easier to track down. For many people looking to get a new video card, that means that deciding between the green team and the red team has become a more interesting proposition.....

Gigabyte HD 5870 Super Overclock Review
Some people who demand the absolute best performance, want a little more than the stock 850MHz core speed reference HD5870's offer. Overclocking is a chancy business and often voids your warranty. We often see video cards with a paltry 25 - 50 MHz overclock hocked as OC models of various flavors. It's not often we see a GPU with a full 100MHz factory overclock.
Even less often do we see a 100MHz core overclock GPU with Dual inclined fans and an overclock utility like OC Guru that allows you to not only overclock but add up to 0.1v so you can overclock beyond the 950MHz speed the Gigabyte HD5870 Super Overclock offers from the factory......

Gigabyte HD 5870 Super Overclock Review
When intense gaming action demands absolute attention, the last thing anybody wants is noise distracting them. Gigabyte's Radeon HD 5870 Super Over Clock delivers top-level graphics performance for DirectX-11 video games with an 950MHz overclocked Cypress-XT GPU, and thanks to twin 80mm cooling fans this GV-R587SO-1GD model keeps noise whisper quiet. Priced at $500, the Gigabyte HD5870 SOC competes directly with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX-480. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the Gigabyte HD5870 SOC against some of the most powerful video cards on the market.
That is likely the most BIASED review I have ever read... I noticed the numbers were quiet off.... But reading the power consumption kinda busted them....
Basicly they are saying everyone else who ever had a GTX480 are full of sh1t....
50W more then HD5870 at load.... Riiiiiight

^interesting article, but would liked to have seen max stable OC on a game, not furmark. even if overvoltage protection kicked in during a game, u should still be able to play, just at reduced framerate, which would have been noticed. however it also shows that more cooling on vrms is still needed
I wonder where they could get the bios for the gigabyte 5870 SOC?
