If it was only as on screen 1h20m p95 stable than I would say it is nowhere near rock solid.

M8 I am not sure if it is to me or not but I will answer as I am bored :D ATM.
So it really does not matter if it is good for us or not, what matters is it good for you? And in fact what really matters is if it is good for your system.
And answer for last of my previous questions is - No M8, I am sorry but 10 passes of IBT says nothing without around 12h of p95 Blend. When you reach 12h of blend and 10 Passes of full stress IBT then you might be stable. If you care about being stable you should follow this road (but even after 12 prime and 10 IBT you can still be not stable).
Have fun

wow.. thats very good. and no the vcore isn't lower than the VId.. thats just the vdroop that always happens. it's probably set to 1.2500 in the BIOS. but nice work either way.
anyways I had a question for everyone that has a Q9550. Could you guys all post your VID's Please.. possibly with screenies.
There's a guy wanting to sell me his Q9550, and he says the VID is 1.1750. thats a pretty darn low VID, and it would probably clock like mad. So I'm wondering what everyone'd VID's are. and can you all post ur max clocks as well. Thanks!
That's mine vid:)

You shouldnt make sweeping statements like that.
What your idea of stable is dosent make it law...others will have different opinions myself included.
12 hours of prime is rediculous, its like the guy that was telling everyone to run IBT 50 to 100 loops:shocked:
Kill your hardware thats up to you, but dont advise others to do so.
if I were you I would look for a good S-spec / FPO number, cause I've seen low vid CPUs OCing worst than "high" vid ones. For my Q9550 both CoreTemp and RealTemp report 1.25 vid, but for some reason SiSoftware Sandra says Min Core Voltage 0.713V, Max 1.138V which is valid cause the CPU is perfectly stable at default speed with 1.1V the lowest voltage my mobo allows me.Quote:

Mines a 1.225vid and the highest stable clock so far is 487x8.5. It will probably go higher but Im not going to try for it until I get better cooling.

Hey everyone!
Just received my new Q9550 E0 chip 2 days ago to replace my Q6600, as it would not allow me to come near the magical 4Ghz border which I wanted to cross as part of my New Year's resolutions... ;) Luckily, I seem to have a decent combo with my rampaged P5E dlx and Q9550, as crossing the 471fsb for 4Ghz was quite painless:
http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/q...ime_stable.jpg
Stepping: L830B496, VID of 1.25V
The settings used are basically:
vCore = 1.368v
FSB vtt= 1.36v
vNB = 1.59v
vDimm = 2.06v (bios), 2.10v (real)
Strangely enough, it only needed 1.29vCore for 3.9Ghz, so I was quite surprised how much extra vCore it needed for a mere 100Mhz increase? I also needed to up the NB from 1.5v to 1.59v for the 4Ghz...
Also, I was wondering if there's anything wrong with my core temperatures, bearing in mind I'm under a dedicated waterloop with 3 radiators (water temp ranges from 33C to 37C). I've been searching a lot on what kind of temps people are getting, and these seem comparable to people on air so I'm not sure if my cooler is mounted right. The thing is that a lot of people still seem to be using the tjmax of 95C, leading to their temps being displayed as 5C lower.
Crossing 480fsb has proven more difficult, and while posting at 500fsb, it will not boot Vista, so I was just wondering what kind of results people have been getting with x48 chipset and E0 q9550, using what voltages? My aim now is to reach 500 fsb so I can run my ram 1:1 close to its rated speed of 533 at their tightest timings... ;)
Nice clock work on it. You probably have all cores tem. stuck. Like mine 1-38c, 2-32c, 3-31c, 4-31c it wont get any lower even if i open all my windows and ambient is 7c. No a big issue as long i have good reads from load.
Hi,
My new Q9550 E0 - cooled on water cooling ;)
1h stable on Prime95 - VC in BIOS 1.28v :D

Seriously guys could you stop showing off please :)
My VID is 1.1 on my EO and I cant get past 3.6 on this chip. Pretty sure I should be getting much more. Running it at stock as nothing is stable.
I know its not my board as I got 4 GHZ on my E8400 on it.
Any help? Think its a dud?
Time to review this thread.
Max(for now) on my x38 limited mobo and skills. 50c on NB is limiting me(40mm fan on it). I would like to have GA-EP45-UD3P to see full potential from this cpu. I can boot up to windows whit 495 FBS but not stable.

I would like to HIGHLY recommend the Gigabyte EP45-Extreme to anyone wanting to push this chip. Check out what I managed to achieve after only a couple of hourse, fully >8 hrs prime stable (both blend and small ffts):
http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/q...x85_stable.jpg
I didnt even need to mess with any skew or reference voltage settings. I just set up some voltages, guessed a good vNB (1.36v on p45 chipset) for 4Gb of PC8500 ram and this FSB and went for it. After bumping up vCore one notch, it was fully stable and I was just like :eek2:.
I couldnt believe it was so easy to push this mobo and the NB temps are still below 48C!! Compared to my older rampaged P5E dlx, this baby really shines in all aspects. While my older mobo was capable of priming at 471 fsb, it was still not 3D stable, whereas my Extreme fully is. It's like this mobo was made for 45nm quads!
awesome:up::shocked:
les_paulde impresiv results, push this baby to the limitos(no rush). 2 questions in my mind. Your VID and do you feel(see) any benefits between 4.0GHz<4.5GHz in real world application, games,GPU OC?
I discovered that when LLC is disabled(X38) i can run lower NB,CPU voltage, much lower FSB VTT. Now just 1.26v. Maybe it's my high but system seems to be more responsive and overall temperature is lower. Soon i need to do vdrop mod and maybe set ram to 1:1 PL10 for max FBS just to see if i can accomplish my goal 490X8.5 stable. From now i just start my OC from the beginning.TBD,TBC
Okay okay, I'm working on it! :D
The VID of my chip is 1.25v.
I haven't been able to crawl up to 4500Mhz yet, but I have successfully reached and benched at 4403Mhz. I must say that honestly, while the differences in feel between 4Ghz and 4,5 are small, they are definitely noticeable. Windows boots up faster and the overall system seems more responsive. But I guess with a bandwidth of >10,000mb/s on both write and copy, this could make sense... ;) 3dmark06 and Vantage both definitely scale up their cpu points nicely with higher frequencies though, so the further you push it the better it seems.
Hope I managed to answer your question?

I've tried 500fsb and wasnt able to make it stable no matter what voltage I give Nb it boots then blue screen. I know it is not the mobo as I overclocked my E8400 525x8 and used 7/24 without any issues. need more voltage need serious cooling I think...

Goblin: If your motherboard can handle a C2D at 500FSB+.... It is a completely different situation for a C2Q
most people say is it is not easy to pass 500fsb wall on quads.and quads really need high Nb voltage for over 500fsb, while I was tryin for 500fsb I was only able to boot when I set NB voltage to 1.44. I'd better keep on trying.
What are your exact voltages actually? (vtt, vMCH, pll, vCore)
Straps?
I totally agree, I only need 1,32v on vNB for 500 * 8,5, fully stable, even with 4Gb of ram and crossfire.
Here are my voltages in case it may help anyone:
http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/q...ings500fsb.jpg
(although the screenie currently only shows ~1hr of prime, this has been fully tested >10hrs)
CPU Voltage: 1.3500 LLC enabled 1.347-6 @load
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): 670
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): 670
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.62
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.28
DRAM Voltage: 2.16
NB Voltage: 1.38
with my old E8400 I only need to set NB to 1.28 525 fsb daily usage. But now you have said 1.7nb all things are more clear
I'll give it a try now.
How does the EP45-DQ6 fare against the EP45-Extreme? I like the DQ6 for more connectivity, and I read somewhere (the Q9650 thread?) that the DQ6 actually tops it with the FSB numbers.
I know the UD3P probably trumps both boards in clocks but somehow I feel it cheats by slackening the memory/northbridge performance. For example, a 500*8.5 performance at UD3P probably equals that of 480~490*8.5 at either DQ6 or Extreme. If this is true it means I have to pay more electricity to get UD3P to deliver what DQ6/Extreme can do for the same amount of work.
I had a little bit fun with my q9550 ^^
http://www.abload.de/thumb/prime_4ghz_2_stundenw2aj.jpg
Just air cooled with great temps
From what I've read (i can't for the life of me find the source again, but it was in several threads), it seems that the only way to be sure which one will do higher fsb on quads is by knowing if the motherboard you buy contains the newer revision of the P45 chipset. Supposedly there are 2 versions, and it's the later one that allows people to obtain ludicrous fsbs, even with quads.
But then again, I dunno. At least from what I've read in the various P45-Extreme threads, everyone at least manages to get 500fsb stable on quads, and they all do it without having to touch things like skew or reference GTLs. I dunno if its the same with the EP45-DQ6, but I could imagine it is so. Another benefit of the EP45-Extreme is that it was build for extreme overclockers, meaning that you can put outrageously high voltages through your components without the need for vMods. Finally, but this is a total assumption, it would seem that the EP45-DQ6 tries to cater for multimedia purposes etc., while the EP45-Extreme's purpose is hidden in its name, and therefore it would seem logical that the EP45-Extreme allows higher fsbs. But as I said, they are very similar motherboards, both based on the ultra durable 2 series, so I reckon it comes down to the individual's luck when choosing between the two.
Thanks Les_Paulde, your feedback is helpful! Seeing as how both Extreme & DQ6 have gone through almost the same BIOS update cycles I think both boards should behave similarly under the same settings - except that the Extreme allows wider voltage range. BTW, I think you meant A2 and A3 revisions of the P45 chipset, correct? Do you happen to know what most people have got from the Extreme lately? Hopefully they're all A3 now?
Hehe no worries, you're welcome!
Yeah you're right, they were the A2 and A3 versions. I just finished building my rig last week though, and as its being watercooled I cannot just take out my mobo without it costing me another weekend.. ;) So I don't know if CPU-z reads it out right, but it seems I did get an A2-version...
http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/q...45_version.jpg
But then again, even with this version I can reach 518fsb, 3d- and bench-stable, so I can't really complain. Now I just need some nice 4Gb of ram that will either do 1200mhz CL5 or 1000mhz CL4, anyone got any recommendations?
So you must be using some sort of waterchiller, right? *is-jealous-of-Overloads_water-temps*
I still use an air cooler ^^

What mobo would you choose for a Q9550 E0? I have seen some really good results with the Giga P45-UD3R/P series. Anything else?
I couldn't really give you an answer on this one, it really depends on how much the retailer moves his stock and whether he always moves out the old boxes first. But I've bought this board on 2 other occasions new to help friends out with their rigs and it was both A3.
