where are all these screenies and tests we were promised haha :)
This is indeed my next mobo. I'm glad I did not buy the P5Q Deluxe yet.
I wonder why Expressgate is not incorporated in this mobo? I guess it would make this mobo more costly.
http://img.techpowerup.org/080627/first run.jpg
no where near done, but its stable in windows as long as i don't run orthos:p:
Cool. Is Probe wrong, or is your VTT and NB really 1.6v, and PLL 1.8? If so, are those on auto?
How does the supreme x-fi card compare to the x-fi platinum card?
the nb is actually set to 1.6 but those others I believe are still on auto, I figured with all the crazy heatsinks on the board the NB could go higher than i had on the IP 35pro
anyone with suggestion feel free to through them out, compared to most on this forum I am probably the "newbiest" when it comes to playing with all these bios settings
I'm just trying to get an idea of whether those voltages are linked at auto or not. You might want to set the vtt and pll lower manually, because you shouldn't need that much juice on those with that 468fsb.
cpu vtt is on auto, just double checked
i'll probably just clock it back down to 450 fsb (4050mhz) im looking to get new ram in the next couple weeks and i think thats probably my biggest hang up.
any recomendation for a 4gb kit thats in a two stick config?
heres another weird one for you, when i have the asus probe running every now and again i get alarms for wierd voltage spikes. like just a minute ago it said my vtt cpu was at 13v early my ram aparently spiked to 18v. im thinking its just an error in the bios. but odd none the less
18867 3dmark 06
thats the first run with the sapphire 4850s in crossfire
Datektrader : hmm thats practically same score as you can get with X38 chipset, how about some game tests :)
sweet this board is looking amazing!!
buying it tonight
....also are yall using the ASUS OCing software that comes with it ... or going through BIOS?
i'll be working on it more tonight, i had the nb voltage set at 1.6 since that is what i was sitting near with the p35, and that was clocked at 450fsb. the bios color codes the voltages to match the leds on the board, 1.6 is actually treated as a moderate voltage increase ( yellow) whereas if i go to 1.7 or near there it turns red ( crazy) im still looking for a good guide to explain some of the more unique ram features of this board.
yea Ace i would also like to know the max allowed NB's here.
one thing i DO know is that at 1.6vTT 45nm cpus die. 1.7+ pll is also dangeorus.
when i clocked with my asus board, High Nb volts, VTT and FSB get auto'd to extremely high volts, its better to manually set them
stay in
1.5 range MAX for vfsb
and 1.6 max'ish for PLL
just to be safe :)
I think 1.5 VTT is too high too...I never go higher than 1.4...even that is only for benching short runs...generally, I keep my vtt between 1.2-1.35 just to be safe...you can easily achieve 4+ghz on Wolfdales with 1.3 vtt and 1.5-1.6 pll...these weird voltage issues with the Maximus II should get cleared up with BIOS updates...the P5Q Deluxe had issues too but BIOS revisions fixed them....I'm running that board now and I should have the Maximus II on Monday for my new air-cooling system.
That being said, I don't think we will be seeing a better or more fun to play with P45 board...I'm hoping DFI comes out with a new BIOS soon, as their BIOSes require too much work right now (I'm gonna be spending a lot of time on the phase build with DFI DDR3 X48 board soon).
Mods should rename this thread to the official Maximus II thread ;)
yea that is true :)
but im talking max 1.6 and 1.5 to reach high clocks, for 24/7 i would do 1.4 on pll and keep it below 1.33 VTT :)
You know your volts ace :)
I don't know if you guys caught the price for OEM E8500s on Newegg but they're $219 right now...nice little combo with this board TBH...I plan on putting the Maximus II under phase soon after doing my regular air-cooling tests before it goes into my new system permanently...I'm hoping it lives up (I know it will).
I also just realized that the soundcard has all of it's functionality on the actual card now...in the past, the digital outputs were still on the backplane of the motherboard...with everything on the card, that means you can use it in other motherboards which is awesome because of the EAX support!
$270 is not a bad price at all...the soundcard portability is alone worth at least $50-$75. I'm wondering whether or not the card actually uses Creative hardware (DSP) or is it just Creative software like they do with laptops as an upgrade..can anyone comment on the quality of those Creative drivers used on 3rd party DSPs for gaming?
in trying to lower that pll voltage the lowest is 1.5 so perhaps on this board its not so bad at that level
Does anyone know if there is enough clearance on this board for the Apogee GT to fit?
so when i get my board tomorrow im going to have to manually set a lot of these voltages?
or whats going on with them?
I'll never get over how much price gouging goes on in AU by the distries/suppliers
They want over $400AU for this board,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they've gotta be kidding
theres a 604 bios now and it changes things all over the place, it adds a skew setting for the NB and CPU and changes the GTL references from percentages to mV. so confusing, atleast for me
the drivers for the audio are soundmax, the creative stuff seems to just be software. it sounds nice though.
anyone tried out those 2 special SATA ports that do RAID without drivers?
A bit cheaper showing on SI now:
http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/...i?q=Maximus+II
Still the range is from AU356 to AU422
I figured that much...still nice to have a dedicated stand-alone PCI-E soundcard included...I was actually going to buy the new PCI-E X-Fi that was released a short while ago..it's $150 at Newegg but now that I have this, I'm gonna save money.
Any new updates with your board yet? I think everyone should manually put their voltages into the board to prevent any accidental high voltage spikes. Usually the first available voltage in the menu is the default value. I've been doing this with Asus boards for a while now as the last 3-4 board always overvolted.
Anyone go for 600fsb yet? With all that copper on the board, I'm wondering how much vnb people will need and how hot the northbridge will get.
Nice board, as long as its not DDR3.....the P5Q3 is a nightmare, memory compatibility issues to the extreme!!
I think I'll be waiting for the X48 Rampage Extreme. It's designed almost exaclty the same as this P45. I have a feeling this board will be nearly $350. If it is I think I will pass.
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/06...new-features/1
:banana::banana::banana: man when it wil be released in europe....
i am from greece and this mobo cant be found anywhere
how faster/slower is than the x48 the p45 chipset equipped with this mobo
X48 Rampage Extreme is DDR 3 I assume?
Forgive the following noob question. Does the "Crossfire" support of this board mean that it just offers additional support/advantages for a Crossfire config, or does it means it supports Crossfire ONLY but not SLI? No advantage/disadvantage to a single ATI or nVidia card (I don't plan on Crossfire nor SLI)?
Thanks for the feedback.
SLI is only supported on mobos with NVidia chipsets, so this card (Maximus II) which has an Intel chipset, supports only CrossFire. But you can still run a single NVidia card on it, thanks god :D
Also, considering Maximus II is a P45, and is PCIe 2 x 8 limited, a single graphic card on it might be the best option. This has still to be demonstrated, not enough tests done yet...
Yes, it is DDR3...I believe all of Asus's ROG "Extreme" mobos are DDR3 while the "Formula" mobos are DDR2.
Even though the Asus Rampage Extreme is a nice mobo and looks great, I doubt it will be better than the already available DFI X48 UT T3RS (which uses Thermalright heatsinks). I wonder if they will price the Rampage Extreme competitively against the DFI, which can be bought for $320 or so.
QUOTED :
" We find ourselves with two physical PCI Express 2.0 16x connectors for graphics boards. These can either be configured as a single sixteen lane slot (with the secondary slot disabled), or for multi-GPU configurations as two eight lane slots. Considering that every lane of a PCI Express 2.0 slot has double the bandwidth of a PCI Express 1.1 slot, this should be ample for almost any real-world situation. "
http://www.elitebastards.com/cms/ind...=585&Itemid=27
from the same article (that's the conclusion):
"Overall then, the Maximus II Formula is another excellent offering from ASUS which is really quite hard to fault. However, considering that at its core it features Intel's mid-range P45 motherboard chipset, I can't help but wonder if many will balk at the asking price of around £180 in the UK. This is particularly true of anyone looking to run a CrossFire multi-GPU configuration, who would do far better to pick up an Intel X48-based motherboard to enjoy the benefits of its additional PCI Express 2.0 lanes. Indeed, from looking around even ASUS' own Rampage Formula part (sporting DDR2 support on an X48 chipset) is available at a very similar price point, leaving the Maximus II Formula to battle it out on little more than that SoundBlaster MB functionality and a few other new additions introduced alongside P45 parts. Personally, I'm not quite sure that would be enough to tempt me away from an X48-based solution."
nevertheless, and that's not ironic, I still believe that a P45 would probably do as well in a real world environment (gaming) as an X48.
Looks tempting - I'm gonna wait for that awful butt-reaming price to come down some. I swear, with as much help we give these manufacturers with testing, you'd think they wouldn't want to take advantage of the hobbiest...
:shakes:
PUT YOUR NVIDIA TO WORK!!
finally!!

ASUS Maximus II Formula BIOS build 0701
This one improves compatibility with some OCZ, g.skill and Crucial memory modules as well as QFan functions...
anyone else using this board at the moment? i could use some help finding stable settings for memory. or more importantly good suggestions for what to change to gain better stability.
well the Super Speed RAID function is completely worthless IMO
I did some quick tests with Mtron 3000 SSDs and WD 1TB Green Power drives
both times the read speed maxed at 120 MB/s
I gotta decide between this board and a P5Q (have both ATM) and I'm running out of reasons not to go with the P5Q
I'll wait a few BIOS revisions before making such a statement. The Evolution board is fantastic, but the DFI is getting better by the day...beta BIOSes are allowing people to hit 600fsb now too...the thing that sucks is DFI is slow to get new BIOSes out...I probably use beta revisions more than final revisions with DFI.
Anyone got another Link for the 701 bios ? pmp link is dead
Needs one more eSATA...
.
Beta.
Thanks Bench, I am having a Rought time with my new pc1100 Gskill and this board maybe this bios will help
What maximum FSB can be attained with a E8400 ? I would need 580 Mhz.
And a second question : what is the heatsinks height, around the socket ? Indeed, I use a phase change cooler and the evaporator head may be hampered by the heatsinks.
Initial Test...OCCT stable.. rams untweak still..
voltages very similar to biostar T-Power I45
difference is.. this is stable with 4870 crossfire
Interesting board...

http://img.techpowerup.org/080704/4ghz stable.jpg
8 hours stable orthos. the pc probe is about 10c higher than realtemp, not sure why.
so now its time to try for more :D
can anyone confirm if the x-fi card included with this board can be used for other mobos too since it has all the ports and optical slot right one the card? also, does the sound card have to go on the black pci-e x1 at the very top or can it be place on the white pci-e x1 in the middle?
for some reason when I updated my bios to 0701 it just totall frezzed when it restart, I mena it is not even running the bios logo the monitor just black out for about 2mins I just turn it off (Afraid it will be on fire again) so I keep trying to restart it but nothing happen and I thought it became a brick, but after it's off like 2 mins I can turn it on and now it is running. Will that be a problem?
So whats the ruling here guys ? What does the Maximus II have over the P5Q deluxe other than price ? Im keen to see how the P45 runs with a 45nm quad , and the price gap is pretty large.
Is the maximus II formula worth the price ?
i guy's ...some bios setting please.....thank's
coming from the Abit Ip 35 Pro, this board runs at lower voltages and temps. but thats probably more of a case of the p45 chipset being better. the heatsinks look nice though:D
had memory problems with 2 p5q deluxes, so i went ahead and bought the maximus ii and memory problems *poof*
http://img.techpowerup.org/080705/Untitled982.jpg
I am having Major Problems with this board, Running Bios 701 with F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI (Gskill new 1100mhz Ram) I get all kinds of crashes in windows even at Default speed, n my E3110 cpu, Is there some magic setting I am not doing? there sure are alot of bios options.. Anyone give me some setting to start with ?
had same problems with the new bios, try 0604
I just flashed 0604 its is little better, What are some good setting to start with getting a new E3110 to run 3.6 ?
go easy on the voltage and keep the FSB termination voltage a little above the NB volts. thats where i have found the best stablitly with my E3110@ 4.0GHz so far stable now at 1.25 volts on the cpu.
im still lost when it comes to memory settings other than the first 4 in my sig and thats only because the ram had those settings printed on them.:)
PLease post your voltages, I am having a hard time running 3.6 with this board, and I know this chip does 4ghz on my p5e3 Premium
I getting all kinds problems like IE7 shutting down
scroll up to my screen shot that has the voltages im using, except i have lowerd the vcore to 2.5
appears when I run 400mhz Bus all my issue Starts. Very strange..
Whats teh deal with SB1 and SB11
What Voltage should I be running my NB and SB SB11 ?
is max II compatible with tracer Pc 8500 ?
sb1 is your south bridge 1.5 sb11 is the south bridge 1.1 volt. i have 1.55 on the sb 1 ro sb 15 as it now shows up as and the sb11 is set at 1.24 in the bios sb15 is above sb 1.1 in the list.
I'm running this board at stock settings right now and it's rock stable. I manually keyed in the memory settings for my Corsair Dominator PC8500 2x1Gb kit. 5-5-5-15. No problems so far other than the Creative/SoundMax Volume Panel that runs in the taskbar crashes rather often if I double-click it to start up the "Creative Console Launcher," anyone else having that issue?
Anyone else notice in there CPU-Z and MemSet it's showing memory as DDR3? Think this is just the programs need updates for this motherboard/P45 chipset?
Current setup:
Maximus II Formula
Intel Q6700 (stock) - TRUE 120 Black - OCZ Freeze - Enermax Magma (push)
Corsair Dominator PC8500 2x1Gb
Cooler Master Real Pro 750W
EVGA 7800GT (soon to be upgraded)
WD Raptor 150Gb
WD 640Gb
WD 500Gb
WD 1Tb Green
Pioneer 18x DVD+/-RW
Cooler Master Centuion 5
I cannot run stock, Unless I tweak the voltages for RAm, CPU VTT , and a few others.. BIos 0701 is very sensitive. I just notices Asus posted on there site. so guess its not beta,
This board is very touchy ! anyone know what CPU SKEW does?
Im getting interested in buying one of these boards...
can anyone tell me if 550fsb+ has been obtained with this board, and what are the chipset temps at high fsb.
Also does the board have the voltage lights like the x38 version, light medium and Crazy??
Any more info than whats been posted would be great
I have problems running 400 bus, this board is SENSITIVE!
This board is driving me Crazy. I can run OCCT 10hr.., I try to play a 3d game like Age of Conan Crashes in 1min.. I cannnot play any 3dgames. so I put int another videocard same issue.. anyone got any ideas?
I am running my CPU VTT at 1.32 now.. how much high should I go
dctokyo sad about MCH = its not CPU VTT. VTT can be 1.35 but dont increase it. Meaby increase memory voltage? 0.02v? 0.05v? 0.1?
I hade same issiue on another board. Benches great but in games sometimes i had restarts. The issius was to big oc and to smarl V on mem's If u are running 2x2gb then raise up a bit mem's voltage. Meaby it will help:)
my ram is rated 1.8-1.9
G.SKILL DDR2 PC2 8800 CL5 4GB
I running them at 1.9V now
whats wierd is the pass Memtest 30 loops
does the board have 3 stage voltage lights like the Maximus SE?
I think so.. Just tried some Different Ram, And NEw cpu.. Same results 3d Games Crash Instantly, and I am running everything at default!
Hello guys,
I ordered this board too. I hope it will run ok and that it will have a high fsb (HTT). The first report/review from awardfabrik was not so good. They had some problems to reach a good fsb.
But i think it was the same with the first boards of the maximus I and commando... after some weeks they came new rev and the oc was much better.
I hope that there will come better bios.
Could u tell me please which bios is right now the best and how works this board with the micron D9GMH?
Best geetz from Germany
GaBBa
You need to list all of your voltage here.
As I mention if your running 4 gigs then you will need to increase your MCH(Northbridge )
One of the most common problems that can cause instability in a system, whether it is overclocked or not, is NOT making sure that the RAM voltage (VDIMM), Northbridge (MCH) and timings are manually set.
CPU Vcore???
MCH Core????
DRAM Voltage ????
I cannot Even Run Stock Stable in games
Q9550
I running vcore 1.25
Cpu VTT 1.25
Ram Vcore 1.85
NB 1.24
Everything else Auto
my Ram is Gskill PC-8800, I tried some different ram same results
Thats high Volts,
Gskill tell me no more then 1.9 on my ram (Gskill F2-8800CL5d)
and from what I read the max you should run the NorthBridge on this board is 1.4
Are you using the Asus Maximus II Formula (P45) Motherboard or the one in your sig? This thread is for the Asus Maximus II Formula (P45) Motherboard
also are you using these http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view...=g_ddr2&no=120 5-5-5-15
Capacity 2GB (1GB x 2)
Speed DDR2-1000 (PC2-8000)
Test_Voltage 2.0 ~ 2.1 Volts
or these http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view...=g_ddr2&no=105
review and OC`ing the Asus Maximus II Formula

I am using Maximus Formula 2,
with this ram
http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view...esc=asc&no=124
Which memory slots overclock best on this board? The Blue or the White? the manual says the "yellow", maybe i'm color blind
Then set the memory at 1.9 Volts ,
Set your MCH at least 1.35 and work up from there and see what happens,
Also make sure your using the lastest BIOS Version (0701 2008/07/01 update Description Maximus II Formula 0701 Bios....Improve Memory compatibility )

Wow! Great work! I will buy Maximus II Formula on Monday, and my Xeon 3110 will rock too with low voltage !!!
@ Waterflex...glad to hear you're getting one soon, but please avoid including pictures when you quote someone: that makes the thread unreadable and much longer to load for everyone, hope you understand. Too many people still do that and that's really annoying. Just delete the img strings in the quoted part of your post before you post it. Thanks.
also you can read that:
