Nice rig there varrius, how about scores in 3dmark with those monsters in SLI :D
santa was good this year
im going to add this to a evga 780i
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...6/DSC09835.jpg
nice cpu
good luck with it :) but I will wait for the Q since QX is to expensive
I thought the 9550 was going to have a 8.5 multi? That's bad enough but 7 would really blow. :(
i got it to pass prime blend for over 4 hours, requires alot of voltage from the NB, 1.5+ to pass, all other voltages are either on the highest green, or the on first red.........so if ur running 4gb at high frequency you are going to need alot of voltage to pass.
well the mod seemed to work out, what is a good software program that works on this board to monitor volts?
putting 780i on triple 8800 gtx (water) with QX9650 on modifed Vapochill tomorrow guys . . .hope for good benches . . .
Very nice, look forward to your results.........
a good program to monitor temps is http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
Well... running @ 3.4Ghz 425 FSB, memory manually set at the ram's rated speed of 1066.
I wanna point out something in the Guru3D Review
Since when did Intel have Hyper Transport :rofl:Quote:
To fine-tune for stability you can change out the HTT Link Multipliers (1x to 5x), both for upstream and down stream, so that you do not push the Hyper Transport speed way out of stability while adjusting the base reference clocks.
nVidia chipsets use HTT to talk to the cpu, by lowering the multi to 4 and taking the HTT mhz to 300 you have a HTT of 1200, 300x4, stock is 200x5.......i have tested this and a bit of performance is gained by doing this....if you are benchmarking, every bit of extra is usefull.
The Areca ARC-1210 8X pci-e Raid card works just fine in the middle slot. Just thought I'd give you all some feedback. I just finished installing the board. No testing done just yet, but will post back when I do.
Shawn
hurry up!!
jk have fun
New BIOS posted :yepp:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=204596
nice, i thought it might of been my case that was causing that, i will load this up later tonight and see how it goes.
P02 installed, LED now working, and as far as my A0 issue, its still present with reboots..... only certain fsb 1650-1750
Does it happen at 1800MHz FSB?
I have had it installed now for most of the day. I replaced my DFI X38 with this 780i and have been pretty impressed. It's a bit different than the DFI, vcore in the bios works differently. On the DFI, I could leave all voltages at stock and I could run my Q6600 G0 at 9x333 perfectly. While I am able to do this on the 780i, the bios runs vcore at about 1.38-1.41 when set to auto. The DFI X38 (and P35 before it) would keep it at stock vcore (which was about 1.22'ish). I have to set the vcore in the bios to 1.375 to get it to actually be at 1.29 (ALOT of droop!), but it is completely stable.
So, in summary, my Q6600 G0 is running at 9x333, all 8gigs of G-Skill is running beatifully and my Areca ARC-1210 raid card is working flawlessly in the middle pci-e 16X slot. Also, no sound issues with my X-FI-based Prelude in this board either.

How is the general quality of this board compared to that of the 680i ?
To be honest, it is very well constructed. I am competely impressed with the build quality. The only thing I I would like to have seen done differently is the orientation of the NB heatsink, but it hasn't affected performance at all, so I guess it isn't a big deal.
One more thing. Is there a version of Everset Ultimate that works with this motherboard?
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/1...enieko9.th.jpghttp://img172.imageshack.us/img172/2...yslijo2.th.jpg
Running baseline benches at stock now . . .only issue is my proc is at -30 where QX6700 was at -42 . . .mightn ot have good seat
Does anyone know an e-tailer in the us or canada that has stock and will ship the board to canada?
First post and I hope I am not doing anything wrong. I went out and got a XFX780i at my local Fry's electronics. I am wondering if I should return and wait for a Evga board.
Another question in general about the 780i, is the fact that it uses ddr2 a good thing?
Nice setup :)
Exactly what i was thinking about.
No v-mod on the cards as far as i can see?
Is there room for wc on the southbridge with 3 cards installed?
Cant wait to see some results.
Might get me a 3rd gtx or wait for 9800 serie just wait for your benchies.
What your trying to say?
That you dont know neither?
I want to know sure or the 2nd card is blocking the way for a sb wc-cooler.
At the moment 1 have an EK sb-block on my 680i between 2 cards in 1st and 3rd slot.
As far as i can see im not so sure if it is possible to keep that in place with a 3rd card installed.
Just the first 2, as I posted, should only be in the way. I can tell you with my 8800gt, that there isnt much clearence above it either. You asked about 3 cards:I told you the 3rd card isnt close to the SB (just by looking at the picture).Quote:

Ok sorry, maybe i wasnt clear enough :)
With 3 cards i mean that the 3rd card is in the 2nd pci-e slot.
As with 2 card SLI you use the 1st (highest) and 3rd (lowest) pci-e slots.
So the 3rd card wil go in the middle slot.
With that cleared out, when installed 3 cards al 3 slots will be filled.
Now the question is, is it possible to use a wc-block on the southbridge when all 3 cards are installed?
All good.. :)
I dont think it goes in slot 3 for the 2nd card. The SLI bridge that came with the mobo would only reach 1 slot across. The tri sli bridge, however, does reach across all 3 so I believe your thinking in regards to card orientation is wrong to start with.
hmm... was excited to hear of the upgrade program but i just realized that the original HSF heatpipe thing was destroyed... curiosity and wire clipper got the better of me... ya think they will accept the remainder of the board for an upgrade?
I will be receiving my XFX 780i board tomorrow. I am currently running a DFI 680i LT board and it was just too finicky with my setup. I could only get my Q6600 to 3.2 stable and I know there is more in that G0 stepping core. In addition, I wanted to be able to run the new 45nm cores at some point. I am sorry that I do not have a sig up now and will take care of that later. I do run 2 8800GTs in SLI right now. Also, TRI SLI sounds interesting to me.
Here is a link to where I bought the board http://www.ncixus.com/products/27630/MBN780ISH9/XFX/
I have used NewEgg quite a bit over the years, but they wanted $320 for this board, which is outrageous.
They had 10 in stock when I ordered mine on Monday and are out now.
The 8800GT will not do Tri-SLI
Dont worry about having the XFX verison..Its pretty much the exact samething...I have the XFX have not gotten any of the A0 problems like another user has on his EVGA...
Ive gotten my Q6600 up to 3850...tried to hit 4gig but wanted way to much volts for air...I did boot to windows at 4050 and got all the way to the cpu test in 06 when it crashed..
Now another question. So far there are only three 780i boards, correct? Two reference designs by EVGA and XFX and a non-reference version from Asus.
I am reading from the back of the box and I am seeing that my XFX780i is only rated for 1333fsb. What are people going to do when the QX9770 comes out? I think that one has 1600fsb.
And another question about ram for this board. I was originally was going to wait for a x48 ddr3 board. How marginal is the difference between a really good stick of ddr2 and really good ddr3 memory like the Cell Shock 1800mhz?
I am having the hardest time deciding what to get or what to keep. Should I just wait for the next gen stuff?
I know that. My second computer is running one 8800GT. I would run two 8800GTs in SLI on my second rig and upgrade my primary rig to whatever is TRI SLI capatible at the time. Right now it is just GTX and Ultra, but I would expect more mainstream cards down the road will be trisli capatible. I just want to have the TRISLI option available to me.
I paid the Newegg TAX :( and got the XFX board.
Will XFX void the warranty if I remove the stock NB cooling solution and watercool the NB and use the EVGA SB heatsink?
I will need to find something for the power transistors, any suggestions?
I was burning a cd with nero 8 and my computer froze....
Anyone here with QX6700 and XFX 780i?
Any tips? :)
The EVGA was sold out when I ordered it last week. They are exactly the same board minus warranty. XFX is two year transferable; and EVGA is a life time warranty to the original buyer if registered within thirty days, or a year from the original purchase date if resold.
I probably will not have the board longer then six months so it doesn't matter and i got to keep 10 bucks in my pocket.
I'm wondering if XFX is refusing to sell to the egg since they are ignoring the suggested retail price and gouging. It is a stupid move by newegg and they will lose more in sales now from lost customers! they should refund the difference and sweep the mistake under the carpet if you ask me. But by upping the price they are able to meet demand...
well i got it in the mail today
all i get is error code FF and nothing happens. ever... i just turns on and shows code ff, strait to ff no boot codes just ff and only ff. i dont know what ff is ffing about
FF usually means all is good but there is a whole bunch of codes the PC goes through before it ends up on FF
we had a board with FF issue after our LN2 session but started working again after some hair dryer action
try another CPU bill
yeah bro i have tried every thing i completly rebuilt it and reset the cpu a million times. tried booting w/o ram or gfx card to see if i could get a error. tried d9 ram and the powerchip's i have. the code stays on ff from the second i hit power to the second i turn it off ??
i put this up on evga forum looking for a mod but im sure i will only get kids who know everything and tell me it is because i didnt plug in my monitor so i cant see the screen booting up
dam im good:rofl:

FF means fully functioning (which means you are 100% good to go). Does your monitor turn on when you boot the computer? Can you get into the BIOS?

PSU connected in the right directions?
I have the EVGA 780i coming in for Weds next week (maybe monday fingers crossed)
I paid $249 CAD (+GST of course 6%)
Does anyone know if the NB will interfere will a thermalright ultra 120e in the vertical position? I'm sure it will fit horizontally but I really don't want to exhaust warm air into my power supply.
going for the xfx as all the evga's seem to be sold out for the uk >_< unless anyone knows a secret online supply xD
Does anyone know if Coretemp is accurate with this board..Seems to be way off. plus getting really erratic temps on all the cores
Using a TR ultra120 extreme push pull..

c2=42

c4=35
Ive resetted the heatsink everything is perfect just like I had on my Striker...
Guys i have problem which mobo choose:
- topic mobo - EVGA 780i
- Asus Maximus Forumla SE ( X38 )
Primary conditions - good performance and good predispose for OC
Help needed :)
I have had both boards, and i can tell you the maximus has an issue where the board wont load the cpu at 100% on certain voltages and fsb, the 780i has a couple of quirks as well, but with the 780i, you get no vdroop with a simple pencil mod and a equal quad overclocking board with the option of SLi, performance is very similar, maybe a bit of an edge to the x38 clock for clock, but nothing to go crazy about, overall for a gamer the 780i is a much better choice IMO, nothing taken away from the x38 or maximus, i would go for the 780i if you are a gamer, SLi is great for resolutions 1920x1200 and above.....the 780i has good ddr2 overclocking potential, got good clocks from my g.skill 4gb (2x2) ddr1000 kit, about 30mhz more on the 780i......good luck on your decision......just some insight from someone who has had the pleasure of working with both boards.
well it seems i have a bad board
im pretty positive something is wrong with it accessing cmos chip and it is stuck on it's last known code of a working ff code
reasons i think this are
i have tried booting up withg everything uninstalled cpu, ram & gfx and as soon as i hit power it is just ff shown i get 2 yellow lights and 1 blue (im color blind so the yello could be any color) so it didnt show any other code so i figured it some how stuck on ff so i thought maybe bad cmos but i took that out and booted and still same no post operations just and only ff!! ive done a over night cmos clear
any ideas how to force it to access the cmos chip maybe ... shorting something?? i have put in for the advanced rma (to apo-ae in germany)and that will take about 4 days after ~ 4th of Jan but my main dielema is in my line of work i will be else where till late 2008 umm refining my counter strike jump strife jump techniques :D but i sooo wanted to improve my hwbot scores expecially with this sweet chip i got off of Andre Yang i guess ill just go buy a p5k preimum for about $350 usd out in town and do some single card Benchies:down:        :shakes:
anyone near STUTTGART. De
So if i think about SLI - 780i, if not - X38. Performance are the same.
I'd be wary about that... I have never seen an Nvidia chipset perform on par with intel chipsets. I've been patiently waiting to see how this board turns out, but I had yet to see any results that suggest that this board can keep up with the performance and quad ocing potential of the x38
Ive benched at 3850mhz with my XFX version also booted all the way to windows and started 06 at 8x2000 and 9x1900 but both would fail the cpu test...this was at 1.6v vcore..Was unwilling to give the cpu more..
quad overclocking between the x38 and 780i are about the same, 460-490fsb is max for both.
Something wrong there mate unless you were not around in the NF2/3/4 days, cause they Nvidia's were the king of OC (esp with AMD's but also Intel), not Intel Mobos.
The NF5/6 are not so hot and the 780 aint a total new Mobo but 790 might get them back in the running.
Does anyone know a concrete release date for the 790i? I returned my xfx780i to Fry's and went and got the EVGA version from newegg.
I got to try out my qx9650 processor on an EVGA 780i this weekend. The only aspect of performance I tested was fsb overclocking capacity, and on that measure (to my surprise) the 780i performed better than my Maximus Extreme X38: higher OCCT-stable fsb (480 vs 465) and lower chipset voltage to achieve it. I hate nvidia so it pains me to say they seem to have done a good job on yorkfield overclocking. (I still bet the X38 is faster but it's hard to do an apples to apples SuperPi comparison with a DDR3 X38 vs. a DDR2 780i, which is all I've got access to).
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...45nmMaxFSB.jpg
I'm waiting to get my corsair memory back from RMA before i fire up my 780i.
on my EVGA 680i I'm water cooling the NB chip. on the new 780i the NB heatsink is bigger, is there any benefit to water cooling the NB? i would have to find a replacement heat sink for the cpu power regulator chips and SB.
whats the cheapest i can get this mobo for and from where?
im getting back my 680i from dfi this weekend and im SOOO happy penryn is compatale on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. p-31 bios ehh,im in!!!!wooh00!!!!!!!
Does any one know when the 790i board come out
I been using evga 780 board for sometime now which is not bad, im not very
pleased that inductors are R50's vs. Striker II's R68's.
Striker II for 780i/ddr2 seems on par for cpu overclock vs. my maximus formula........
striker 2 bios has all the voltage options, load line caliberation, etc...same as maximus series has and you can now disable cores within bios.....:D
Something the Striker 680i should of had....
Other note my EPP 6400C3DF works great with 780i......
I will post some tri-sli #'s when time and everything gets together, waiting
on some single slot gpu pots for pci-e 1 & 2 slots....3rd slot can still mount full size gpu pot, but 1 & 2 need some slims.....:)
