There's not going to be 2 demos guys, it's just the tagline as zillaoc suggested.
EDIT: There are 2 demos, one I can't play and one others are playing right now. :(

yeah just got DX10 mode running .. apparently 64bit doesnt work ...
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...Shot0005-2.jpg
jeez that incrysis news was confusing .... i hope they can get 64bit working
As far as checking if its in DX10 mode:
If you go to the Advanced video settings and have the very-high settings
it means you have DX10 mode running.
DX9 users like myself do not have the very-high option available what so ever.
I'm confused m8
Did you pre-order it?
is this demo any better than the beta? any more maps? I thought the beta was unplayable.
Well it has single player map, rather large one at that.
Not only that but it has the MP as well which I guess the beta one is ending?
Playablility, well from right now they must of added more things to the engine or recoded it a bit since for me it runs slower than the MP beta does. It almost acts like beta 2 for performance wise, since beta 3 actually increased performance enough where I could turn up my display to 1440x900 from 1280x720.
Please someone with Quad-Core check CPU load
some DX10 very high(DX10 only) vs high(DX9)
DX10 very high @ 1280x1024 was like 17~20fps, and DX10 high was like 30~35fps

very high was unplayable .... sigh with a stock GTX
notes that sunshaft (light beams passes thru leaf), can be done in DX9 tho.. as in beta just tweak the cfg, which i forgot lol .. so for the 1. DX9 high wont make much difference ...
the parallax mapping makes the stones look really nice, but 17fps .. no thanx lol
oh yeah seems like very high also makes the draw distance larger, which is tweakable via cfg i think ....
huh what do u mean??
Heres some SS from a few minutes into the game.
1440x900 Res No AA at all. "My rig takes a crap with aa"
Its on all High/DX9 mode, xp32.
My buddy is downloading the demo now and plans on running it in vista 64/8800gts. We'll see how it goes considering how many peeps are having issues with the 64 bit mode.

how u get the ammo off the dead guy operates the turret ... there goes what 15 or 30 bullets .... same goes for the guy operating turret in the ship... how do u get his ammo???

No Ammo For U :)
Weak sauce. The Demo is only available for those who pre-ordered. Then the rest of us can download it tomorrow. Lame...... very lame.
Wow, those with the demo running GTX and ultras (with the latest drivers) are getting frame rates in the teens.
Who was it that said that it would run fine with a GTX, hmm?
Lets see what the actual retail game brings to the table :yepp:
Side note:
Interesting post. Lets see if things change in the retail version.
Wasn't me, I've been saying it for a while. 1680x1050 max with a mix of ultra high and high settings with a powerful system.
I know in a bit I'll try my reconfigured ultra settings to see what I can pull out. Editing the config files can be god :) I know it was worth it in the beta to get a few extra frames yet hold up my high settings. Managed to tweak myself up a res setting doing that.
Another interesting posts found:

another ultra owner complains
I still have a slight hope for the demo... Pretty much everyone trying DX10 in that thread are all running vista 32bit as far as I can tell. Crytek outright said that they only advise maximum settings in 64bit. If I'm not mistaken, the game is apparently made from top to bottom for 64-bit, with 32bit just there for compatibility sake.
I guess when it's done d/ling, I'll get to be everyones guinea pig for testing said statement. We'll know if crytek has been just pulling everyones chain or not in a few hours.
I guess my 7900GT isn't going to cut it, will it.
I wonder if it'll even run on low settings ;p
Message from Cevat: "Oh sorry...I owned you all LOL " :D
I never read that before. If you have a link quoting them I would appreciate it. Also, if it was remotely true it makes no sense to optimize a game for 64-bit when majority of people use 32-bit. It simply makes no sense...majority of people are not going to pay again to upgrade from vista 32 to 64 just to play one game specific for vista 64. Specially if they are happy with vista 32.
demo is at home, my 8800GT is ready to test ...;)
So far, the demo is shaping up to not be a dx10 game built from the ground up. People are reporting better performance using dx9. Only time will tell if this also holds true for the retail version.
Ask and you shall receive.

GS: When we talked last year it was said that Crysis will ship with 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Is 64-bit still in the box? Does it offer any kind of performance improvements as predicted?
CY: Yes, 64-bit in general runs better than 32-bit. In fact I would recommend gamers run 64-bit only under very high configurations. We ship both 32- and 64-bit out of box.
Plainly put, this will be one of the first games actually designed around 64bit.Quote:
Will the x64 version have a significant performance improvement over the x86 one?
With all others things being equal regarding hardware and driver performance then the 64bit version of Crysis will be the best performing version. The Sandbox level editor processes a large amount of data and is best run on a 64bit system.
As for why they'd specifically aim for 64bit instead of 32bit...Simple. Remember crytek saying they wanted to build an engine for the future? 32bit isn't the future, 64bit is. ;)
lame
16 more hours to wait
i forgot ... but yeah i found it in the beta forum ..
i think it was like:
put:
r_sunshafts = 1
in "system.cfg"
not sure tho...
wait for the tweakguide to have a guide up in the next week ...
http://www.tweakguides.com/
as for DX10 ultra high , yeah at 1280x1050 when i move around i get like 20fps ....and 25fps standing still, the 64bit crysis.exe, and crysis64.exe under "bin64" folder doesnt work ....
argh .. nvm there is no system.cfg under the game folder.. there was in beta mp
let me try game.cfg under My Documents\My Games\Crysis_SP_DEMO
This implies 2 different sets of files:Quote:
CY: Yes, 64-bit in general runs better than 32-bit. In fact I would recommend gamers run 64-bit only under very high configurations. We ship both 32- and 64-bit out of box.
-one for 32
-one for 64
Which appears to be based on how it's installed (based on the OS you have). Therefore, it appears that the game is optimized for both 32 and 64 (how well it's optimized is a different story). What he is saying is that 64 bit in general runs better then 32 bit. General being the key word here. He's not taking about Crysis 64 bit specifically.
1 yeah for vista x64, it installs a "bin64" folder
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...3&postcount=89
but running crysis.exe and crysis64.exe = crash
2. yup sunshafts works on XP/DX9 ..
put:
r_sunshafts = 1
at the bottom of game.cfg under My Documents\My Games\Crysis_SP_DEMO
this was at DX9 XP32:

for a stock GTX, Q6600 @ 3.5GHz 1440x900 all high no AA was very playable .. getting ~40fps standing still, and 35fps when moving around
PS: this game eats about ~400 to 450MB VRAM at 1440x900 all high ... the reason for the 250MB VRAM usage was that i took it right after it loads, but as u move around it just increases
I found this:

Crysis SP Demo Here!
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...653#post507653
Interestingly enough the demo doesn't bold well for vista 64 bit users. While others are reporting poor frame rates.
Look here as well. Here is another user with GTX states that the Crysis demo with vista 64 bit only runs well in a window but runs like crap in full screen. I also forgot to mention that this person is using the latest nvidia beta drivers.
Also, someone posting SLI (I assume he's using ultras from reading his sig) reporting less then fluid gameplay found here
20min left. Will see how it works with my x1900gt.
Crysis SP Demo + Sandbox2 Editor now @ fileshack
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/11333/Crysis+SP+Demo
u need to register a free account and wait for like 70 min tho ... sigh
so EA demo doesnt have Sandbox 2??
How do I show fps in the demo? Fraps isnt working. I get AWFUL fps @ 1920*1200 with a single 8800GTS. My card decided to set it's self back to stock so imma grab the latest beta drivers and try again OC'd.
Last I checked, rebuying vista cost a lot more than 5 dollars. You don't NEED it either, just like you don't NEED vista/DX10 to play crysis.
How does bioshock/cod4/ut3 selling well/being popular have to do with crysis being the game that pushes the envelope of graphics?
i wouldnt play this on vista ... high is pretty good looking already, sure very high looks even better, but not a whole lot , also the performance is terrible on vista ... im sticking with XP (mostly lightning + parallax mapping + draw distance)
again DX10 with everything on high performs worst than high on XP ... i guess ill get that R700 or 9800GTX if i want to play crysis @ DX10 max out @ 1680x1050 4xAA
cuz i doubt even Q6600 @ 3.6 + ultra SLI @ 650/2000 can have a playable fps @ 1680x1050 all very high
well got it. runs pretty good @1280 on all high, with post turned too medium. its very playable on vista 32. I unistalled 64bit last month, might reinstall it this weekend on sunday.
the game is good though, the AI is pretty nice aswell once u play it some. Looks amazing of course too boot.
I tried the new beta and performance was worse for me, so i went back to 163.71, reloaded rivatuner. and i gained about 9 fps over the new betas. Food for thought.
oh and it only uses 2 cores lol
patchs should address this once its in retail.
And what makes your false claims relevant?
I thought I noticed lower performance as well. How are you checking FPS?Quote:

My UT3 FPS on the other hand seems higher...
my rig ran it at about 15-20 fps :( looks like i wont buy the game
wonder if it's on usenet yet
wow the demo suprised me and with that i mean its length.
i expected a short demo that would finish within 5 minuts but this length was nice.
But i was dissapointed about 2 things.
the AK (dunno its correct name but u know wich one i mean) was a gun i used alot in the MP beta but in the SP demo it sucked ass.
Its precision sucked even on short range and it didnt do any decent dmg.
It sucked so much that i prefered dual pistols.
The Physix are a bit overdone. I threw a handgrenade into one of them huts and the damn thing totaly fell apart.
I then threw a box at another hut and the entire hut exploded.
If i throw a solid wooden box at one of them huts id expect 1 or 2 panels to come of but the entire hut falling apart?
Say hello to 15 fps in combat. That's what I get at least... 30-40 fps 1920*1200 on medium. Looks damn nice on high though:

30-50FPS @ 1680x1050 med settings., Rig in sig. CPU is now @ 3.1GHz, VGA @ 800/900. DX10 in Vista Home Prem. 32 bit with tons of crap running.
downloading now
1.20MB/sec
should be done in 15 minutes
it's DX10 :)
anyone got 64bit to work?? on vista?? with GTS SLI i might have a chance at playing DX10 very high @ 1280x1024 ...
Apparently 64bit and SLI aren't working in the demo yet. :(
For me, at 3.6Ghz, 2Gb and GTX at stock, 1280x1024, DX10, Very High and Vista with latest beta drivers we see 21 fps average. No bad, but i'm hoping for that to be at least 25 fps, and hopefully 30 by the time the game is released. Fingers crossed eh? :)
One word to sum the game up so far...
Breathtaking.

very bad optimized game

I want to try running this on my old 2.4GHz P4 with an FX-5500 :p
I just launched it once at a res and setting i knew would suck but oh man. I won't quote fps right now. In fact I refuse. Ya it will get better with new drivers, patches, tweaks, perhaps some 8800GT SLI and other optimizations but still. For as long as we've waited and all the freakin' hype this is a major disappointment.
Sure I can play it at 1152x864 but why bother?
update: mid-30s at 1280x800 high but looks like crap on my lcd. Gonna try it on my crt I guess. But thinking I should just wait. All the other new games, demo or full, look incredible and run well maxed.
I downloaded the Demo @ over 1MB per sec and in about 20mins, i was ready to install the Demo. Once installed, i went into nHancer, set all on "Application controlled" but ive set Super AA.
Launched the Demo and boom. Right into it i felt. The Introduction video is amazing. Very immersive IMO.
Good god guys! This game is fantastic so far!
I ran it with all settings on Very High, 1920x1200, 4xAA and it ran but would give extremely low FPS...Heh
I've set everything on High with 1680x1050 and it was playable.
I'm running 1 8800GTX Oced @ 626Mhz\2000Mhz and a stock Q6600. Windows Vista Ultimate X64 :D
Such a freaking shame i don't have a freaking SLI mobo so i could Oc the hell outta my Q6600, Hook my Dual 8800GTX and play that freaking game maxed like madness! Ahhh!
i can't get fraps 2.9.2 to work :(
Should it just work like it usually does?
Ideas?
try the last version of fraps on vista. i couldnt get the new one to work either.
finished installing it an hour and a half ago and just finished playing through the demo(i like to take my time lol.)unfortunately its not really playable for me @ 1280x1024 everything high.i have to either drop to 1024x768 and keep the high settings or keep the 1280x1024 res and drop most settings to medium.
I just meant that there's pre-order (which I can't play) and the public (which I can and did play) ...lost 5 hours there somewhere
I took that to mean use 64-bit only under very high rigs. In other words, only fast hardware should bother w/ that version. Of course, now I'm thinking maybe I out to check out x64.
Kinda like an action movie, eh? Physx aren't a part of this game, are they? I hate that card. I have NO room, no room for it!
Hmmm...I didn't find that playable. Our main difference's cores and bits...interesting.
So yeah, it looks pretty. But are you guys playing it at least on hard and taking new approaches to every objective? Are you throwing barrels @ guys, then shooting them w/ your pistol? How bout driving up to a bunch of baddies, then driving away and ditching the ride...chilling for them to check it out, then shooting the gas tank on the back of the jeep?
It's sooo nice to actually hide behind a tree for once. :D
pos game, glad i didnt fall into the hype
farcry has a better performance/image quality ratio
everything on LOW except shaders and sound at Medium
the game was playing ok at high/med until the open area w/ trees and buidlings below
but the performance isnt the worse part of this disaster- it's the gameplay
the engine isn't bad, but slapping Far Cry and Splinter Cell together is as innovative as slapping Unreal Tournament with Battlefield 2
two quick questions, how can i know how many fps im getting, and also, does the demo finish when ever you get to the boat?
does the demo finish when ever you find the boat??
I just played around with it for a little bit with my outdated videocard (X1800 XL). @ 1600 x 1200 w/ 4AA, all med settings w/ exception to shaders being set to high... i got a whole 2-3 fps lol
leaving everything the same, and changing shaders from high to med gave me a min fps of 15 and in some areas went up to 25ish.. more so between 15-20fps.

Cant wait to buy this game in a year and a half to see what it really plays like.
PRICEY
Well not for us cuz we won't be buying it. Others say it isn't even enjoyable with decent fps. Well mb there's hope for a great new (old) fps yet
Game was very playable for me with everything on high. no AA 1280x1024.
Blows my mind that some of you didn't enjoy it...here's a repost from my thoughts on another forum.
Ok, so the background sound's there just like Halo and Farcry before it. What I didn't expect tho was to hear the "buzzing bee" from Aureal 3d's sound demo from a bit back. When you walk over grass, you hear it behind you. Spin a little bit and oh...there's the subtle motion blur.
For added fun, pick up a red barrel w/ the flame on it and toss it over the ocean w/ maximum strength. Now shoot it w/ the pistol and watch in awe. This can also be done w/ the barrel in a truck parked in the hut. Walk 10 paces, turn and BOOM! The hut and truck blow up in about 20 pieces w/ lots of smoke and fire.
Picking up ammo, going down stairs, picking up boxes...all of it you'll see your hands actually go down and do it. There's no quick run over the box and your good. I had to use stealth to get behind the baddies, pick it up, then speed to get away. Now that I've got the ammo, it's time to hang back and watch them for awhile. Eventually one separates from the pack. He's on a hill, so I hit him w/ the tranquilizer bullet and watch the poor guy slowly slump and take a tumble. Now asleep @ my feet, I decide to wait for him to wake up...then I tagged him w/ the tranq in the melon and he slumps again.
Every load proved different. This is on hard, so I'm not sure how it'll play out on other levels, but they do not have strict paths. They have you...they hear you, they move towards you convincingly. Gone are the "instasnipers" from Farcry, these guys WILL NOT see you sneak up from behind a tree, bush, etc. Alright, that's enough. Stop reading now and go play this game!
Its smooth at 1600x1200 DX10 maxed for me, just gets alittle jerkey when you really wish it would not; combat. Playable? some would consider it.
Runs fine for me everything on max what a game by far the best game on the year! Was quite amazed how good the game ran with a 2900pro on stock!
