Lol, nice pun. I'll definitely try this and somehow I missed this bit of info as I thought I was supposed to use Uncore = 2x DDR memory speed. Is the +1 rule only for stability at higher BCLKS, or is it just plain more stable in general?

Anyone been able to get 19x211 on their board? I thought I would try the 19x multi to see if I could lower my vcore any from 1.4V and 4Ghz at 190x20 w/ Turbo but the 19x multi doesn't want to work for me at all. It freezes the second I start Prime95 even though I'm still using 1.4V vcore. I tried upping all the voltages more but that didn't help. I haven't figured out what the weak link is yet. I'm going to try playing with the performance mode and the clock skew for the CPU and MCH to see if that helps any.
Reverend Maynard,
On that 4.3 OC that you posted pics of, what are your mulitpliers at?
QPI 36x
Uncore 16x
Memory 8x?
Guys, please take it to PMs if you insist on continuing this.

So I finally pulled the trigger on an i7 motherboard and RAM purchase. I decided on the UD3R board and 3X1GB of G.Skill DDR3 1600 RAM. I will post results as soon as I have time to get everything assembled and spend some time clocking. I'm shooting for 4 GHz on air, cooling provided by a TRUE.
I've gotten 211 x 19x to work but for my chip it requires a really high qpi/vtt. I think i was running like 1.75 - 1.79 qpi/vtt so I gave up on it.
I have seen others run it with under 1.4 qpi/vtt though. they probably have a better chip.
What are your settings?
I pushed the qpi/vtt all the way up to 1.55v and my DRAM to 1.75v and it locks up after a few seconds every time in Prime95. And I was running Small FFTs instead of Blend thinking it wouldn't push the IMC as hard. If mine requires more than 1.55V I don't think I'm going to even bother. That just defeats the purpose of me going to the x19 to lower the vcore.
Right now I'm running 21x191 at just under 1.4v and testing for stability. It's been stable at 1.4v but trying to lower it a notch or two. I keep jumping around between BIOS's to see if that helps any. I've tried F4j, F4m, and F5c. I'm back on F4m now.
Hey guys,
I have a UD5P sample here, and was told its possible to flash it with a bios from the Extreme as they have identical pcb's?
Has anyone tried this? Thanks.
- Tom
Ive tried 5 cpu's and none of them could do 20x200 with HT enabled.
Thanks Mikesrex, I'll be following your results closely. I have my 920 and a GTX280 on the way. I've been eyeing either the UD3R or the UD4P boards as well as that exact memory.
Also, based on the recent Newegg review, I'd be interested in hearing if you have any issues w/ the NIC.
i think he tryed a p6t as well
ugh! that sux... so are you trying to get quad SLI going or just get a single GTX295 to work properly? If it's a single card, I don't think you enable SLI on it as it's kind of done in hardware... I could be off base, but anyways...
in other news, my ex58-ud5 should be here tomorrow night... gah, friday is going to blow at work.. maybe I will get sick. *cough* ;)
I have the UD5, and my 920 does 20x200 with HT, but it needs 1.5v aswell. Watercooled and f4r bios.
Argh, update to at least f5a, you will need less voltage for stability.
Edit: I am sorry and I did not know :banana::banana::banana: about your BIOS revision. I am now testing with F4n with the same voltage results as f5a-f5d for my current 19x200 target OC with the added benefit that the system doesn't crash (LinX good, Prime almost an hour but no guarantee) when I add the third memory module. I'm sticking with 8-8-8-21-1T and seeing how it goes.
It may, but I tried f5c and wasn't happy. And now that it's stable I will not break it :- )
I can do 200x21 but with 6x memory and 15x uncore and it was stable at least for 2+ hours prime and since I really only play games, that was fine with me.
Hopefully, I'll be getting a new chip in the next few days.
Settings were
Qpi 36x
Uncore 15x
memory 6x
HT on Turbo On
Vcore 1.44 bios(1.408 CPUZ)
CPU pll 1.96
Qpi/vtt 1.45
Qpi Pll 1.26
VDimm 1.6 6-6-6-18 1t OCZ-1600MHz running @ 1200MHz
A couple other voltages that I can't remember.
I think i have a duff 2nd card, i tried them out on their own and couldnt get a picture from it at all. I took it to another machine and still couldn't - the blue light that's meant to come on i think to let you know the card is primary card never comes on either, so i guess the card was DOA.
Serves me right for getting them so early...
Strangely you do have to enable SLI even with just 1 of the cards though, in the control panel, for the 2 gpu's to work together. I've verified this with 3d06.
I guess I could have looked at your sig. ;) *doink* sorry to hear your other card is bunk. I hate getting new dead hardware.. but who doesn't? anyways.. thanks for the info on the SLI enable.. I have used SLI for years, but never with a dual gpu card. I am looking at migrating to GTX295s myself after I get the ud5 up and running, burned in, overclocked, stable, etc.. I am hoping this board is better for me than the eclipse.
the mobo and ram will be in tomorrow, and I should have some sort of results tomorrow evening. I will, at first, be using this setup:
PC&P 750W silencer
X58-UD3R
i7-920 cooled by a TRUE
3x1GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
8600GTS
and my dual HD3870's (couldn't pass them up for 180 shipped new for the pair) will be probably be here saturday or monday.
I'm hoping for a 4GHz 24/7 stable setup.
Yeah, this is actually my first experience with SLI. Other than the DOA card, i'm over the moon with how easy everything has been, compared to my last setup. I set 1920x1080 desktop, and it just worked. I set 60hz, and it just worked. I ran Vantage and 3d06, and they just worked. No underscan, no visual corruption, no scaling issues, no dx10 issues, and Crysis on Dx10 all Very High with 25fps~ is smoother than the last setup was under DX9 High with 35fps~ !
Now to get this brick sent back.
Yup, i tried the P6T deluxe as well, but i think 3.8ghz should be enough for me, and its fast enough for anything right now. I will settle here till 32NM comes out later this year.
Which temps do you get GAR with that Noctua cooler under full stress 3.8 HT on ? I would try 20 multi , Turbo on and 191FSB... runs far better then 20 x 200 as the latter requires far more vcore to get stable ( 1.38 vs 1.43 )
I am in the same boat as yuo GAR. I've had it at 4.2, but I've been having lockups when sim racing and that totally sucks when I'm in the middle of a race and get booted and crash like half the field.
Last night, I brought it down to 200 x 19x and it completed 20 passes of Linpak so I'm going to try to raise the memory and uncore a bit and see if it stays stable.
I turned turbo off, put my RAM at stock settings to run DDR3 1600MHz and set the vcore to 1.3 V. At 200X20 it posted and loaded Windows on the first try.
I haven't had a chance to extensively OC it yet, but 4GHz seemed effortless.
http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...20build006.JPG
I got my board today... I have to say, it's the nicest looking mobo I have ever seen in person... from color choices to placement of things... aside from the pci-e 1x slot / nb issues, I like how the fan headers are kind of spread out at the edges, the power and reset buttons are FAR away from the pci-e slots, so like, you can get to them with lots of HUGE video cards installed... little things like that. God I hope it's not a dud for me. fingers X'd!!
So i had to go from 1.30 vcore to 1.425 vcore to get this thing stable enough to load windows and do other tasks. what a jump to just go from 200 to 210 x20
http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...20build007.JPG
this thing takes a crapload of vcore to continue to OC
I got it stable with turbo mode at 210
http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...20build009.JPG
Wow, our systems might turn out almost identical. My PP&C 750W Silencer is on the way. The main difference is I just received by GTX 280 today. :p:
What I'm truly debating is if I may want to do SLI or bump up to 12GB of ram in the future. If so, it might be the smart thing to get the UD4P today. OR, I can save the $60-$70 today and just assume that by the time I'm ready to do that I'll want another mobo as well. I'm torn. What do you guys think?
Edit: Oh, I'm starting w/ stock cooling...buying the True a bit later when I get ready to OC. Probably a new case as well.
ah I see. I'm still an overclocking n00b
here is what this setup did at the different superpi times
http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...20build010.JPG
LOL This is a little off track but,
Mikesrex,
Your civic? If so damn low 10 q/mile f'n awesome ;D
Damn no way! I woulda figured the civic was left lane due to the high mph and slower q/mile time. Lack of traction.
You guys look like you do a crazy job, and that kind of time with that mph well much respect for the building skills of you guys ;) As build such a FWD that holds together and gets the power down is a feat and a half. I have a FWD Corolla i built years ago that does 14.03 @ 103mph on 225 street tyres and yeah that was hard enough even with LSD box to get power down.
I've seen a locally built civic here (in australia) run high 9s / low 10s and damn it was a sight to be seen a FWD with such massive slicks :D do such an impressive time!

New bios ud5 ed extreme. http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...st-bios-28441/ :D
Quick Test with F5d on my Extreme. Nothing has changed for me and the reboot/shutdown issue (over 3.8GHz or 180BCLK) still exists...
Does ANYONE found out sth really useful in all these last beta bioses?
LOL
i found something useful :p:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=214446
F4N rocks :D
F5C worst bios i tried hehehe
yeah F4n is the best around but the mobo must evolve you know....
i guess stability in general, especially in high clocks & voltages situations...
except if UD5 is not out for this kind of usage...
btw my motherboard (UD3R) is on the F1 bios. I'm not sure if I want to flash it to newer. what do you guys think?
I just tried F4d for extreme, and it sucks just like F4 final, F5a, F5b, F5c...no overclocking beyond ~3.8 unless you like using reset every time you reboot or renter the bios, except the initial bootup to higher mhz. And if benching with any F5, clear cmos will be your friend.
I ran linpack 64 bit at 2 notches of vcore below stable using F5a-d, and all require the same Vcore for same Mhz as F4m or F4j, all crash/reboot before 10th run. The only change I can tell beyond F4m bios, is they have made overclocking so annoying in F4final to f5 betas that few would put up with it.
I wonder if I can flash my extreme to UD5, which I should have just bought in first place, their bioses could not be any worse.
I remembered that I had Wprime, this other program that utilizes all available threads. Had to increase the vcore a little bit for 200x20 stable, but here is the screen shot showing the min and max temp along with the Wprime results for 32M and 1024M
http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...20build011.JPG
I'm thinking I now have enough vcore to turn the turbo on, and this setup will be stable at 4.2GHz for single-threaded apps and 4GHz for multi-threaded apps. what do you guys think?
depending on your bios, turbo may be on for multi threaded as well. Anything after f3 it will always stay on
I found wprime really easy to slip by on an otherwise horribly unstable system. Try something more ram intensive to find your sweet spot.
^ This for sure
Integrated memory controller is on the processor. It's a huge point of weakness that needs to be addressed before maximizing your overclocks. The cores are like a brick :banana::banana::banana: house on the i7's, the IMC is not however and most of your instabilities will be caused by it.
which be why many people clock higher with the x6 mem multi :)
So another bios for the Extreme that still has the restart issues RGE? I'm just about ready to tie up this OC and resume gaming again when my other card comes, i feel i'll be on f4m for the rest of the board's days.
Is anyone running a i7 940? What are you running it at and what is your memory at?
I just picked one up on ebay yesterday and wanted to gain a little insight before I received it.
Yep, at this point I would not be surprised if bug persists to F5 final and on. One mod on Tweaktown thinks they are aware of and working on the bug, but who knows, my guess it is low priority at best. I wrote support and they said they would pass the issue along, but also that as long as it works at stock, ocing is not guaranteed. So who knows
They should remove all of the labels on the box that gleam about overclocking then. 2 of my mates have the Extreme, and all three of us do not experience any of the bugs that allot of people seem to be experiencing. You'd think if the bugs were wide spread, one of us would have suffered...but nadda.
I think for the chaps that are having a bad experience with the boards, chasing a magical bios update is just setting yourselves up for disappointment. If it was me, I'd rma it, sell it and give another board/manufacturer a go, but I commend your guys patience.
Another little bug that I've noticed having with the board is when I've been testing on the x19 multiplier. When I set a high blck and save the settings to exit the BIOS sometimes the second I save it will just go to a black screen and it won't reboot. I have to manually restart it. I'm guessing because the settings aren't real stable or something. Either way I haven't had much luck with this board at blck much past 200Mhz. I'm thinking it may be my 920 just having a weak memory controller or something but regardless it doesn't like running my memory much past 1600Mhz, especially the higher the blck goes. I have Corsair 1600C8 dominators and i'd think they would be good up to at least 1700Mhz, especially when I crank up the voltage and loosen the timings. I was testing with a low blck and was able to get them up around 1680Mhz I believe and ran Linx and Prime95 Blend without an issue.
I may end up swapping boards and CPU's here before long though. I've got my eyes on the Bloodrage or the eVGA x58.
since the majority of posts you see on forums like this are about issue with hardware, let me just say I have a UD5, that I keep clocked at 3.6ghz (i haven't even tried more, satisfied for now on a 1ghz overclock that is 100% stable, 20x180). I had all these other bios's downloaded and ready to go, but decided to stick with F3 at first (what it shipped with), and have had no issues. No bluescreens, lockups, restarts, coldboot issues, or S3 hibernate issues. Very happy with this motherboard.
(though I will say to be fair, this is my second one. First worked fine as well, but for some reason the bios wasn't seeing 6gb of mem, though windows was...weird. Even though it didn't seem to cause any issues, i didn't want a $300 defective mobo, even if it was just cosmetic. This second one though I have absolutely no issues.)
thanks for this.. I was starting to get depressed reading about nothing but issues with this or that.. ugh! but that's how these threads tend to go, you hear more about the frustrations than the successes.
At any rate, for your memory issue with the other board, I hear that can be caused by a bent pin in the cpu socket area.. or at least, some other people have said they found a pin which was slighty askew and after straightening it out, viola! all 3 or 6gb would show up..
I am going to get my board turned on for the first time tonight.. If the shipped with bios is F3 or higher I will stick with that unless I can't get something stable... I am looking for 3.6ghz or maybe 3.8 for a 24/7 config which I need to be super stable for MMO gaming.. crashes = deaths which is so annoying. anyways.. wish me luck. :)
yea, i read that on TT forums as well, but I looked at the socket with a magnifying glass and couldn't see any pins out of order, and I'm so freakishly cautious when placing the CPU in, that I don't thik that was it. Maybe a pin shorted, I don't know. But in the end it doesn't matter, a simple overnight replacement and I'm cruising along now and haven't been this happy with performance and stability since my old NF4 setup years ago :)
well, so far so good... my board works! feeeewww... but the bad news is I think I got as crappy mount with the cpu cooler.. at 2800 with cpu vcore on auto my load is in the high 50s... might just be fresh AS5 also, but I seem to remember it being a bit cooler before when I first ran prime... like loading right at 50 or so.. anyways.. I think this board puts a little more vcore in by default than my old one did, so that might be the cause for the extra heat... I decided to take her up to bios f5e for :banana::banana::banana:s and grins... f3 seemed sluggish while in the bios menu and I dunno, it just felt like an early rev bios... Vista64 did remarkably well booting in the new env for the first time.. I only needed to reboot once, and didn't even need to use the gigabyte CD for any drivers at all. lol. it doesn't get much easier than that. :)
so I want to disable all of those extra cpu features like prochot and virtualization, etc right? the eclipse didn't have any of that stuff...
edit: so do any of you have dynamic energy saver enabled? does that makes the load LEDs light up while the mobo is active??
Which ggbt board do you have? Many folks myself included have found the f4x bios's to be better for oc. My bios settings for high oc below - if you are on air start with a lower vcore - something at or below 1.4 might be a good start. Good luck!
load line enabled
vcore 1.55
qpi 1.335
cpu pll 1.88
dram v 1.64
HT off (or HT on with much higher temps)
turbo off
C1E, C3/C6,C7 off
EIST off
bidirectional prochot off
virtualization off
qpi, uncore, mem multi's: 36, 13, x6
1394, lan2 off
HPET on, 32 bit
965 on GGBT X58 extreme under water
This is with Bios F4m
Max voltages from intel -
My stuffs just arrived... so before i start touching the BIOS setups... which one is still the best BIOS version? F4j?
I'm not sure if it is a CPU or Mobo limitation, or am I missing something in the bios, but I'm trying to find why my BCLK seems to be to the lower end of the scale compared to others.
Vcor is 1.39 under load in all examples, these are prime stable for 1 hr, additional vcore does not raise the o-clock in any of the examples.
With Turbo off, the cpu scales to 196 BCLK, or 3920
With Turbo on for the 21x multi to 196 BCLK or 4116
With HT on, Turbo on, 181 BCLK for 3801
With HT on, Turbo off, 190 BCLK doesn't work ?
Now in the last example, it fails within a minute of prime95, with the screen freezing for a few seconds, then a reboot, the same as raising the BCLK in the first 3 examples.
Vdim = 1.64v
QPI = 1.34v (raising it doesn't help)
LL= on
The remaining voltages are auto
QPI multi = x36
Uncore = x16
Mem = x8
X.M.P. = on
I'm using the 4l beta bios, and load temps are in the high 70's with no throttling.
Any suggestions to what might be holding me back ?
You might be having some conflict with uncore and mem multi's.
I try to stay away from uncore/mem=2. I think I have read that uncore/mem needs to be ration of x2 + 1 clock count.
The other thing might be the bios, you are on f4L?
What is xmp? - edit - found it - presets stored on the memory
CPU multi of x21 has been the sweet spot for me.
See above for the bios mods that I would reco.
I'm not sure if I even want to change from the F1 BIOS on the UD3R yet. I've had no problems with a 4GHz 24/7 clock. I did manage to get a 9.015 sec 1M superpi time with running 215x21, though
screenshot if anyone is curious http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...at9015mark.JPG
most everything is on auto. I'm thinking that if I learn how to tune all the other voltages I would be able to run faster with less vcore. I need to read through this thread (again) and get a refresher on what ballpark the other voltage levels should be in. Then I can start testing from there.
man i feel so dum :stick:, took me 1 hour to oc this thiing when i first got it to 4ghz with ht on, and took me a month and 1/2 to get easytune 6 to work, all i done was turned off avg pro and ran easytune 6 and its working on windows 7
amyone tried the vdroop pencil mod ? work ?
Thanks! yeah, I think I will stay a bit more conservative for now, lol. Oh, I have the ud5. I am burning in at 160x21 for now with 1.2 vcore... I ran my other OC at 180x20 with 1.23 vcore fine.... my chip was prime stable at 4ghz with 1.4 vcore but my temps were warm on air... this chip has me tempted to get back on the juice (ala h2o) badly... kind of eye balling water kits again.. I have a modded nautilus 500 with improved rad and fan, but not sure that will cut it here... I think I need a bit more cooling surface... anyways.. so far so good.. the mobo has behaved very well so far. *knocking on wood*
i AM installing my OS in an hour or 2, X58 extreme, 920 and some 280's,
Should i go with Vista sp1 64bit which i have been running it on my work station, or try beta windows 7 64bit
thanks in advance
Yes, this i7 was my first water build - see -
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=212948
and what I ended up building -
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...2&postcount=20
Seems like i7 at higher vcore does like more aggressive cooling - probably an understatement:rolleyes:
hi
i have vista 32 on my main drive and w7 64 on a spare drive and boot to which one by pressing F12
i much prefer w7 but IE8 is unstable so use firefox
i tried to install F5e bios but after a boot it reverts back to F4 offical
flash back to F5a and allworking again (21 x 200)
also removed the blue cover off the the northbridge and temps on the northbridge fell buy 6 c 58c to 52c
would like to water cool N & c bridge with MIPS cover but then problems with cooling morfts
