three? What are this three bios files dated? I think not at least one of them is able to get a "Stepping 2 (B)" Gulftown running. -> DFI should not talk about Gulftown support until they are not supported.

The new CPU from end of 2009 should be far more close to retail CPU than the other ES from august 2009. But i'm really very proud on DFI, supporting A stepping Gulftowns 4 month after appearance and leaving the newer B Stepping CPUs unsupported :clap:
The A Stepping Gulftown lack has been from beginning of Q3 /2009 till end of 2009, the B Stepping lack is from end of 2009 till now.

Every time once a needy DFI user get no helping answer, every hollow promise, "civil discussion" will become a slugfest. Why do the DFI Support Europe tell me to support this CPU within next weeks after i got my X5650 not running with bios january 6th? Perhaps they should say "Sorry guy, this CPU will never be supported because it's an ES". Perhaps they should say "B Stepping support is planned for week XX in 2010" or "Bios will be released with launch of retail CPU"... But three buggy beta bios files without the promised Gulftown support seems to be all, DFI is able to...
I don't remember because they pulled the first two bioses. Each time they released a new beta with gulftown support the previous version disappeared.Quote:

Even ASROCK, ASUS, Gigabyte, Evga support these CPU and i'm sure Biostar can do this too. So DFI is around 3-5 month behind other manufacturers.

It is frustrating with dfi as im on my first and i knew buying it they are slow to update from reading about them over the years.....Even slow to release boards after a new cpu comes out..Asus seems to be the best with bios updates and gigabyte too. I feel your frustration as a guy who gets new cpu's to try out early...A guy like you maybe would be happier with another board..Me not upgrading to 6 core for a long so this board serves me just fine...actually out of 3 x58 boards I like the dfi x58 the best ....I really feel your pain and their response is qoute unsatifactory as they must have a sometime date if they talked to their programmers,thats all it would take...but I kinda expect this from them...if i was running pre release stuff id be using someone elses board i think...but its like a double edged sword as i really like there boards.................

Asked DFI for the promised i7 980 support which launched today. This bios may support the Xeon and the B stepping. Perhaps i'll get an answer. Beside, there is the posibillity to talk to taiwanese support an the us support.
Hey guys been away due to family health issues + work, haven't touched a bench rig in 6+ weeks now!
But last I heard from DFI, the DFI UT X58 will get Gulftown B setting support just that for B1 step, they need to rewrite an entire portion of their bios for it which is probably taking longer to do. That was info 6+ weeks ago, not sure how it is now.

Maybe DFI doesn't have support for ES Xeon processors, but ES consumer chips are supported just fine.
Doing a quick test at 4.0GHz as we speak. Will be pushing for more.

How are you guys flashing your BIOS? I use a bootable usb and when I try and flash it just ends up sitting at the flash screen saying input file name and nothing else. Ive tried many different versions and exactly the same thing every time, just sits and the screen and doesnt allow me to do anything.
Had that problem. Program trying to read BIOS file, but it can't. It wasn't so persistent in my case, gone with a reboot or USB stick change, I can't remember.Quote:

But i have the problem, that the DFI Bios sets Uncore to 2x DDR Clock. Gulftown should use 1,5x Mem Clock as Uncore Clock. With 1,3V Vtt i can'tget over 3200 Uncore... =/ so memclock will be 1600 max for me.
Perhaps next bios will fix up this uncore multi problem...

yeah but the mem /uncore multi isn't correct. And it is only A0 stepping. Westmere EP and B0 sampels wont't work on DFI boards...

I can confirm CPU PLL is still broke lol It's even a "stable" bios and moved out of beta section.
Anyway does anyone with this board have problems cold booting with high frequency RAM? Whenever I do a cold boot, only 4 GB of RAM is detected in the bios (and in Windows). I have to let it run for a while, power it down, then power it back on and all 6GB are detected.
I'm running the memory at 2000mhz 9-9-9-24-2T @ 1.62v in bios (1.60v real voltage) and the uncore @ 40000mhz. Once I have all 6 GB detected, the system is stable. It passes memtest86+, prime95 small fft/blend, etc... and I only need 1.34 VTT.
So does anyone know how to fix this? I looked in CPU socket for bent pins and they're fine. I reseated the memory multiple times with no luck. Also I have tried messing with some settings in the bios with no luck. I thought changing the bootup clock would help (I've tried setting 135 - 180) but it really doesn't do anything. I also have been upping the IOH voltage with no luck.

not a good idea to replace the thermal pad with thermal grease, the heatsink is done for use thermal pad between it and the mosfet.
if you use the thermal grease probably you need to tighten the screws more than what you do when you use the thermal pad.
i would buy another thermal pad to replace the stock one.

second the board has always been a good board.
its limitations were the bios. its just too small to hold the same amount that was added on to the evga classified. etc the subtimings of the uncore, cpu skews, fixed rtl etc.
they problem ppl have with dfi rma is because they are so accustomed with asus/gaygay etc mainstream mass produced boards.. they dont repair. they just give u a new one.
dfi has always been niche and they dont realise the pros of dfi which u dont get a lot with other manufacturers
1.access to the engineers for custom bios and good feedback and response time.
2.the arguement before the x58 days that digital pwm doesnt make much of a difference and actually requires more voltage.. with the intricacy of x58 , i7 cpu etc.. and dfi experience in digital pwm.. they made the first good board.
3. rma.. this board is no auto settings.. so overclocking/changing cooling etc is all a risk.
not always some bunred like Blacknachs!if you had 38c ilde and 64 load at pmw for long time and one day you notice that you have 62c ilde and 89c load and a bad smell started came out of the pmw.. my retailer told me if the mobo operates its ok i have to send it to dfi myself and waiting with no mobo/pc for weeks!and again i wont be sure if they are gonna tell me hey buddy something here is almost half burned etc take it back cant fixed your fault!btw if i had the money i would by the evga but dfi was cheaper here...so i get what i paid for...

The PWM heatsink is gripped not so tight as to damage the regulator (at least on my motherboard). When I removed the heatsink screws, without any effort it is peeled off from the PWM. Even noticed that there was not good contact between the cooler and PWM. If you work carefully, I see no reason to worry about removing the heatsink. My board is working until now without any problems, but this pwm area smell in your case is not good indication indeed.

you loose next to nothing as far as speed goes..you dont have the removable devise option when set to ide..
with AHCI disabled you loose Native command queuing, hot plug and some other stuff.

i haven't used this mobo in the case then i don't know if the bios has some problem with the sata controller in AHCI mode.
one thing is sure, the latest bios is the best for performance and stability in overclock.

Hi guys, sad thing is that my DFI T3eH8 just died after 1 year running 24/7 @ 4.10 GHz. I did contact to DFI for RMA or may be this is time to go for Rampage III.

I installed XSPC full board block, when turn it on in the first time, I got error code 88, understanding this is going bad, I try clear all CMOS in all different way in 2 day but still unsuccessfully resurrection it. Taking mobo out of case and re-install original heat sink and I got very strange bios code, only symbol " - " is show up in LED when turn power on. I am waiting reply from DFT now if they accept RMA for me or I have to buy another mother board.
Before I did couple of installed & re-installed PWM heat sink with Enzotech southbridge water block and everything running fine.
Hmh, I could be misinformed, but from what I remember is that they say that one shouldn't mess with the stock heatsink assembly around the PWM. The area around the PWMs seems to be very fragile and needs a certain and even pressure, otherwise you might smoke them. So you could be lucky with your RMA but I wouldn't get my hopes up, I think you voided your warranty.
Maybe they'll give a discount on a new board, but when you need one anyway I'd just go with the R3E. Newer, more options, moar power and waaaaaay cooler PWM area. I run my T3eH8 with an watercooled i7@200*21, 1.39vc and 1.41v vtt and you feel the heat toasting your face when you come close to it's PWM area. R3E uses DirectFETs (example: the small one to the right) which are way smaller than comparable standard FETs while delivering the same ooomph and staying cooler. So I guess before the 8-phase design of the R3Eget's into problems your chip is already in flames... :yepp:

With Intel Core i7 975 XE... I can't put the multiplier over 25. I can overtake this number with "turbo" mode, but when I put it and stress cpu (LinX, WPrime, etc.), the multiplier (I see it in CPU-Z) downs random between 26 and 30... why?

There is new beta bios 06/15/2010 issued by DFI.
Major reasons of change:
Update Intel MRC code for support Intel i7 un-lock CPUs.
i flashed it yesterday.
it's a bit faster than the latest official bios and seems that can handle lower subtimings than the others bioses.
p.s i really appreciate that dfi with the LANparty division closed continue to make bioses for their mobo, this's seriousness. :clap:
I had a preposition of changing my UT to MSI Eclipse Plus. After a research I turned it down. One reason was that there are more BIOS updates for DFI anyway. I will try this new BIOS after the end of month - I have exams right now.
I hope DFI will comeback to desktop market someday.

Do you know what exactly does cpu feature lock option implemented in new beta bios?
CPU feature lock is for fixing a flaw that has been in the BIOS for some time, it didn't lock virtualisation features on boot which made some hacks in VMWare needed to run x64 virtual machines. With this option enabled the locking now works perfectly (on cold boot).
In short, it's for correct handling of vt and vt-d.

wow, I've just loaded this new beta since I'm not running FAH in this heat. I've went from the 11th May 2009 official to this one and a few minutes in it seems like it changed my board totally. Okay given the fact that from my last BIOS to this one several BIOSes where released I can't really say which one made the change or if it is cumulative bug fixing. But with the old BIOS running a W3520 and 12GB of OCZ memory I was victim of this dreaded unreliable boot behaviour (one boot okay, next one BSOD). Also the system just wouldn't reboot or cold boot correctly even if it was running fully loaded weeks on end without problems. Guess what is fixed now.
Did I mention that I'm lowering volts across the board? It seems the incompatibility is gone (we'll see, but it looks promising =) ) and I need to start from point one. Thumbs up for this! ATM I can't wipe that grin off of my face. Thank you DFI.
03/24 was a major upgrade, Indeed it changed this boards totaly,
I strongly suggest everybody with BIOSes older than 03/24 (2010) to upgrade to latest stable 04/29.
I have 06/15 for about 4 days now - no problems with compatibility or stability.
In free time I will check if OC is better on this BIOS.
