I tried several sets of ram last night and cannot use the PL8 with 200D 1:1. I think its radaja's Cellshock ram allowing him to do this. I tried with 2 sets of 2x1gb kits 1066 Dominators-d9's, a set of Mushkin Redline ddr2 1000 2x2gb kit, and 2 sets of G. Skill 1066 4gb kit. Tried up to 1.40v MCH, it was set to turbo so maybe that is the problem IDK. I have 2 sets of 1066 Ballistix tracers that are d9's I may try later tonight.
DemonEyez: nice job with that q9650, 4.5ghz is awesome . I couldn't keep temps down with my Ultra120 to go any higher than 4.3ghz.
I have a UD3R running my Q9650 under some h20 for my game machine. I usually never run the sleep mode; it's either on or off.
I currently have a Q9650, still NIB, that I was thinking of getting another UD3R board for. The machine would be my 24/7 machine which I often use the sleep mode. I currently have a P5Q Premium asus board running my 24/7 machine. I can't remember if there are issues with the UD3 board coming out of sleep mode. Do the UD3 boards have trouble coming out of sleep mode?
Thanks,
529th
Hi All.
I recently bought the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P because of all the good things i have read here on how well it clocks the Q9650.
I am using 4 x 2Gigs of Gskill DDR 1066.
My question is which bios would you recommend because i just flashed to F9l and it killed my raid and i am now struggling to get 4Ghz stable?
Thanks
529th, YMMV, but I have had issues with sleep mode - it sends me into a never-ending POST loop.
I second jonathan's question, but with the UD3R - What's the most OC-worthy BIOS out there for both boards?
Ymmv?
I think a lot of the guys using quads liked the f4 bios with the UD3P. Only one I didnt like was f8, I'm on the f9l bios now but am running a dual core. I liked the f9 for my quad but never tried f4 with it.
Was able to run a couple hours of Prime Blend at 4.5ghz no errors, stopped it because I needed 1.51xx volts CPU. Max temp was 68c which isn't bad for that much vcore.
Just tried that radaja and my ram laughed at me. No boot lol.
yea im confused.i dont understand why it boots using 4-4-4-10 but not when all i change is 5-5-5-15,i even kept my vdim at 2.28 like i had using cl4.oh well
Just courious...do any of you use any type of Line Conditioner? Not a basic power strip but a power filter. Had one collecting dust so I thought I would try it after reading a thread on it to see if there were any improvements with my OC's. Sorry for going off topic.
Thanks, I have an old HTS 3500 that was used for my home theater a few years ago, hasn't been used in a while. Thought it was worth trying. So far I still fail my overclocks lol.
I have my computer going through a Monster surge protector with stage 2 filter (however effective that is) and then through a cyberpower UPS with AVR. That powers my PSU and my primary LCD, my secondary LCD and everything else is on the Monster.
Thanks for the PL clarification!
Ive tried most of the bios but havent really seen any difference in one overclocking better then another.
Interesting for sure. I had a hard time getting mine to boot 1:1, 555. 5:6 was easiest. Changing to 444 made a huge difference. Currently 511x7.5 PL8.
I have been playing with "Extreme" setting. It is quite fast but hard to get fsb very high. Maybe easier w/444. PL9 of "Extreme" is faster than PL8 of "Turbo".

Hmm, interesting, will try it also. But I don't expect my OCZFlex2 with PowerChips based IC's to do Cas4 at 500Mhz
Right now, i'm in a dillemma what to choose... Do I go for highest CPU clock: 4500MHz - 9x500 1:1 1000DDR2 5-5-5-15 + PL9 or... do I go for less CPU clock but much higher bandwidth and tighter latency: 4455MHz - 9x495 4:5 1238 6-6-5-15 + PL8
It's not strange: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=8
That's what your PSU is for. You need UPS/line conditioner/... only if the PSU can't work at all on its own.
Core2 doesn't really care about memory bandwidth and latencies, at least above 800 MHz. Go for maximum CPU clock.
Got me a UD3P last week, was a Rev. 1.0 to replace the DK-P45 Plus (I wasn't that pleased with it, don't know why).
So far, I'm pretty happy with the board.
Reading the guides and tips about the settings helped me a lot, although I must admit that in the beginning, it looked like chinese to me (setting up CPU Refer. and MCH reference).
This was a new to me, being used having DFI boards.
Anyway, I installed my Q9650 and it looks ok to me, running 4Ghz with 1.232V.
Here's a screenie :

According to the mathematics @ anandtech to calculate if a given trD meets at least the minimum requirements to get it "bootable" my values seem to be absolutely ok but if i go for trD 8 with 450MHz FSB 1:1 on the 400 Strap i am not able to boot :-( *confused*
