Yea, same here :( I was hoping for either a lower price or higher performance than where it is at right now  I guess there might be a 8800GTS640 in my future ;)

Call of Juarez DX10 Benchmark

Quote:
ATI RADEON HD 2900 XT (R600) 512MB PCI-E is generally very successful for its price. It obviously and definitely outperforms the competing GeForce 8800 GTS. But we still feel that drivers do not allow the novelty to spread wings, especially with AA. So, let's wait for updates.
Meanwhile, we can state the following:
* Excellent performance for 1600x1200 even with AA+AF
* Fully-fledged DX10 support;
* HQ anisotropy by default
* New AA modes

Does anyone know where I can download a HD video of Ruby´s Whiteout demo?
Thanks.
you can see it in techpowerup review >> http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/HD_2900_XT/
the demo for download I dont know

Yeah I know it´s there for view, but someone have it in 1280x720 :D

You can find it in emule, but only 1 source :(. Hope anybody knows where to download it
You can watch it here :D

Man I want that the typical Realtime Demo's for download.
Driver Heaven's Review:

Lots of vista benchmarks in there.
I wouldn't put stake in those numbers... read the review...
The IQ on the R600 is washed out and applying "filters" that shouldn't be there. Can we say "cheat"?

Take a look yourself.
btw....

NVidia's GTX wins in DX10, and the GTS ties the HD 2900XT in this title, and it's being optimized FOR THE HD 2900XT!

Tesselation HD movie - http://www2.ati.com/multimedia/radeo...ation-V1.0.zip
Source: http://ati.amd.com/developer/demos/rhd2000.html
It is a MOV file BTW. The latest VideoLan plays it fine for me (VideoLan has built in codecs).
The Tesselation movie shows the mountains of the Ruby with and without tesselation. It is pretty amazing to see it, but as with TruForm it will require support from the developers. Let's hope that unlike TruForm this will get mass-support.

And about this:

Clear win in this also.
http://www.legitreviews.com/images/r...enchmark_2.jpg
Both coincide in the Frames per second, so is easy to see that both are OK, the guru3d review is wrong acording with these two.
Image quality is ok in every review. It isn´t needed conspyiracy teory.....
Can be many things/drivers problems. Besides in the text is said that HD 2900 had munts of bugs runing the game.
This inicial DX_10 games will not show nothing special about DX_10 performance. It´s needed more titles and mores games and benchmarks to say something.
Take conclusions on that for ATI or for NVIDIA side is just being very Biased.....
LOL in the other review because you dont like the numbers Its fAKE or they cheat
this pcgameshardwre.de numbers you like so its not FAKE and its the real thing (btw: if that its the real thing so 8800GTX not so good in DX10 because have the same FPS that 8800GTS , so ppl who want a card for future DX10 games should buy GTS and not GTX )
we already know you like 8800GTX and 8800GTX its better then X2900
you didnt realise yet that x2900 compete with 8800GTS 640mb not with 8800GTX???
Sapphire X2900XT in portugal = 375 euros
8800GTS 640mb in portgal = 399 euros
8800GTX in portugal = 550 euros
....
It means the card CAN do it, it just need some driver spanking
I think its weird the 8.37.4.3 are slower, but at least we know the card CAN do it, so we have to wait for proper drivers!
G90 is delayed, so ATI should have time enough to tweak the drivers, and release a refresh in Q3.
What if the results are a freak accident due to some driver error, or incorrect/poor quality rendering? Surely there's a reason the "improvements" got pulled from the newer release?
I'm not trying to antagonise you, I really want this card to rock, but I think it's unrealistic to expect miracle boosts from newer drivers. Take the performance at face value today... any increase in the future will then be a pleasant surprise ;)
Didn't call it fake. I stated that the article says the IQ is questionable on the HD 2900XT in that review. They have screenshots to show it, and gave the win to the 8800 anyway. I didn't call them out on it, legitreviews did. Infact, in the conclusion they specifically say they'd like an explanation from AMD or NVidia on what happened with the HD 2900's IQ.
Oh, I realize that's how it's "suppose" to be. In reality though, in the high-end, it's one companies top-tier against the others. People compared the x1800 against the 7800GTX 512mb even though the price difference was huge, no?Quote:

The price difference isn't nearly as large here... $100 difference on newegg between the cheapest HD 2900XT and 8800GTX.
Get this though, there's an $80 difference between the cheapest HD 2900xt and 8800GTS 640mb on newegg at the same time. $100 difference if you count the $20 MIR.
So, that makes the price gap identical from the 8800GTS 640 to the HD 2900XT, and going from the HD 2900XT to the 8800GTX...
Honestly though, I'm hoping AMD can get the R650 out the gates, and quick. With them not having the mid-range ready for atleast another month, and them really not being a clear decisive winner over the 8800GTS 640, they're going to be in a rather sizable amount of trouble if they don't pull a rabbit out of their hat quick. Even driverheaven said flat out that they "Cannot recommend this card.".
I had to laugh about your post heheh
Could be, who knows. If i would have the card, i would test it and tell you ;)
In this matter i think it can be, because the drivers are much less mature then we used to get at a new launch. For example, dvd playback is horrible at the moment, twice as slow then a X1950XTX (cant find the review anymore :S).
Black box from Valve in retail cost 40$ so do the Math again, because HD 2900 have it for free.
And 10 other reviwes don´t said that. So why should anyone beleave on that guy in specific :slap:Quote:
Even driverheaven said flat out that they "Cannot recommend this card.".
I hope you were laughing in a nice way :toast:
I too think there will definitely be large performance boosts in upcoming drivers, but there seems to be a lot of people out there who have the impression it will leave the GTS in the dirt and maybe even topple the GTX in more games. This clearly won't be the case; at least not at stock clocks!!
Suman
AMD should ban crack from their driver team and start feading them meth coz right now it's just not good enough.
I’m glad that there aint a lot of (heavy) games worth playing, so I can wait just a little longer.. I hope that the R650 does a lot better.. Didn’t have a lot of luck with Nvidia cards in the past and don’t want to buy one of theirs…
Ha, its all a little up in the air at the moment whether this card is worth buying or not, I'm sure most will agree it looks to be somewhat of a dissapointment though. I bought my 8800GTS a few weeks ago and I'm not exactly hearbroken that I didn't wait for this.

Digit-Life's review shows impressive numbers with and XT clearly beating GTS. Moreover contrary to a lots of reviews we can see an XT card wich handle filters much better. This review appeared very late in the day and seems to use far better drivers. However everyone prefers to use numbers from "old" reviews even if Shamino himself said in his review at vr-zone that new set of drivers brought huge performance each time. I repost the link again and i hope that reviews wich appeared during the week will show those types of numbers.

Wow, thats quite an extensive list there, nice one. Just do everyone a favour though and remove gibbo's link ;)
I mean, i can see the words and letters in his post but all i read is: ''buy this from me, it must be bought from here, overclockers are the best, blah, blah, blah.''
Lowest NL prices (euro):
Sapphire 2900XT - 337,50
Sparkle GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB - 328,95
Sparkle GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB DDR3 - 496
Lowest DE prices (euro):
MSI RX2900XT - 368,59
Sparkle GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB - 308,66
Sparkle GeForce 8800 GTX - 476
The German pricewatch is always slow with updating prices, so expect to see the 2900XT to get cheaper there.
[update] And some crazy Gainward GF 8800GTS 640MB for 263, 267, 271, 275 euro (4 different store prices, all including 19% tax)
Poor mascaras is working overtime :D
Good prices within 24h of launch if you ask me.
The measured power consumption of R600XT is somewhat strange though, Anandtech measured R600XT to ~20W above G80GTX at load which means R600XT only draws about 150W since G80GTX is known to consume 130-135W.
It's strange that Anandtech didn't say how they kept the 8800 busy. The 8800 can shut down circuits in order to save power. If you use a very simple program that doesn't utilize the entire card you might not get the maximum amount of power the 8800 can draw.
I dunno if the 200 watt that was specified for the 2900XT in that one review was accurate tough. It was hear-say.
What do you guys think of this? ATI cheating with IQ in COJ DX10? Hmm...
http://tertsi.users.daug.net/temp/R6...ia_vs_ati.html
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/504/2/
Doesn't look like cheating at all to me. Several of the reviews said that the AF was better on the NVIDIA cards and that is what that first link shows.
I concur and raise with an AnandTech link : http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2870&p=14
The nVidia 8800 has excellent normal and HQ AF, which far exceeds even the ATI x1900's rotationally-invariant HQ AF (it suffers from bleeding issue's under certain angles).
I believe the x2900 uses the AF from the x1900, and in that CoJ pic the wall in the fireplace is placed under the angle that makes ATI's HQ AF bleed (which is why this looks so veeeeeeeeeeeeery bad compared to other stuff around it). The blurring issue's are caused by the AA.
Checkout http://www.elitebastards.com/anipic....jpg&speed=5000 to see the difference between rotational/angle-invariant AF on (= HQ on) & off (= HQ off). You can already see that start of the differences (very small, but the angle of the grass isn't really enough to see the bleeding accurately) in the grass-patch in front of the dude with the gun.
If ATI cheats with it's IQ it would have been visible in other places, as well, but there isn't anything else.
http://tertsi.users.daug.net/temp/R600/iq/coj_nv.jpg <- I hate jpeg compression
http://tertsi.users.daug.net/temp/R600/iq/coj_ati.jpg
I frigging hate mouseover......
Why say its cheating it could be just part of the driver optimizations for all we know. Theres so many dang drivers floating around and no "real" official ones til sometime next week probably.
It's even better....Quote:
The latest 8.37.4.2_47323 drivers is supposed to implement a new intelligent algorithm that increases FPS while applying similar image quality when running Adaptive Anti-Aliasing. In Oblivion, performance several times faster than previous drivers using the new adaptive AA algorithm was claimed to have been acheived. New optimizations for HDR applications in general resulted in a 5-30% increase in performance.
Or is it?Quote:
With the 8.37.4 driver as you can see above we found 1600x1200 playable with 2X AA and 25% grass with HDR. When we installed the alpha 8.37.4.2 driver we still find these same settings as the highest playable game settings. We tried 4X AA but found performance to be unplayable in the same places we found it unplayable with the 8.37.4 driver. We tried pushing the grass up higher but found the same performance problem with grass.
Screenshots of Oblivion with performance from http://www.computerbase.de/news/trei...ibervergleich/
Your wrong! ATI is pre-release zeta drivers, whilst nVidia is pre-release beta drivers. :stick: :stick: :stick:
But time goes on, and history repeats like a river.....
Both general and game-specific driver-optimization goes on forever. Some new game arrives, they need to make optimizations for that game again. Call Of Juarez arrived, nVidia spent resources to make a new driver for it that boosts performance for that game. I haven't heard about any other game increasing in performance due to the new nVidia drivers. I am sure nVidia can do the same over and over just for that one game. I am sure ATI can do the same.
There's a point in here somewhere, but I lost it.
In conclusion: ATI will spent time to do driver optimization for Lost Planet and the performance will improve a lot!
With both programmable architecture of both card i think they can go even further with drivers optimizations;)
"Allem Anschein nach hat ATi aber Bildqualität zu Gunsten von Leistung geopfert, indem man ein wenig am AAA gewerkelt hat. Da dieser Treiber offiziell aber nicht freigegeben wird, soll dieser ausschließlich zu Testzwecken genutzt werden. Wie sich das mit der Performance und der Bildqualität in offiziellen Treibern zeigen wird, bleibt abzuwarten."
In english
" However, apparently ATi has sacrificed image quality in favour of from achievement, while one has pottered around a little in the AAA. Because this driver is not released officially, however, this should be used exclusively for test purposes. As will appear with the performance and the image quality in official drivers, remains to wait. "

This is the best comment of driver i have read since Nvidia have release the G80 first beta driver.,.. really.. I just take the comment of Nividia send to jurmalist and say they have resolve 450 performances problem in Vista ( and around same with XP, ) since the driver "official" they have release when G80 was out... (Taken on FUD publish by Nvidia and send same days of Tunis ATI by Nvidia to Jurnalist)
Can i hook up my power amps to HD2900XT and get 5.1 surround sound?
Or do i need a decoder?
Rumors has it that it has a 5.1 soundchip onboard. Do a Google search for "built-in HDMI and 5.1 surround audio", or go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_R600 . But I haven't heard anything official about it. It's better to wait for a review on it anyway. For all we know it might overheat during gaming and cause stuttering sound.
I'm getting excited about this card. Heading to my local computer center today to see if they have it for a reasonable price.

Anybody know where I can get 8.38 drivers? I only got 8.37 right now, and I want to do some testing...
Awesome, with roughly 8 days to spare for the driver update. The cd may come with 8.36 so download 8.37 striaght from ATI website.
So, here is my very first benchmark with my new card... I'm *VERY* impressed... I've got MSN open, and internet browsers, and virus scan, and all kinds of other :banana::banana::banana::banana: running in the background... Definately was not expecting this with a :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty driver either;

@Rob GL,
Nice performance, but is that Half Life 2: Episode Two or 1?
the 4 screws next to the core looks about the same size as X1900 ... maybe D Tek Fuzion GPU will do the trick ...
Its the "Black Box" deal so you get....
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2
EDIT : I should probably mention these games aren't out yet. What you get is a voucher to download it for free on steam when it is released (right?).
.....and its supposed to retail for $40 so that is added value.
I ran some calculations at 1920x1200 from anandtech's graphs and I found that the 2900XT is on average 2 FPS faster than the GTS640 and if we were to make that into a % average that would come out to the 2900XT is on average 6% faster than the GTS640. For ~$100 more that seems a bit steep :(
GTS 640 is about low $300's now .... EVGA $329.99 after rebate ... i bought my 2nd one almost 3 months ago and cost 10 bux more ...
I think a lot of people here are in denial and I kind of understand that. Many of us just waited an waited for something that is, let's face it, a major disappointment. The hype over R600 was something downright insane. Everybody was like "R600 wil be at least 50% faster then 8800gtx and with a much better IQ on top of that".
A few of weeks ago when it became evident that HD2900xt wouldn't be the G80 killer that everyone took for granted, some argued that future drivers would solve that. More in-depth reviews like the ones at Anand and Beyond3D clearly state that R600 architecture is extremely software dependant:

Before anyone call me a fanboy let me put this: I owned only ATI cards since R300. Not beacause I like ATI and hate Nvidia but just cuz they were better and faster. I too had hope that R600 would be a beast of a GPU but, unfortunately, it isn't. In my book it is a major flop and I truly hope that AMD/ATI get their act together and put some serious competition to both Nvidia and Intel

All is not perfect but seeing this review and Digit-Life one after one day is begin to be very interesting.
@Caparroz : Using Anandetch review is good but u can use it entirely. In their image quality part they say nothing wrong. Image Quality in Hardware.fr (BeHardware) review is equal to X1900 image quality but a little inferior to 8800 image quality.
^^I was talking about the Call of Juarez test. The 2900xt fireplace pic clearly shows blurred textures. That bench used the "magic" 8.37.4.2 driver, didn't it?
yes i too hoped that R600 was gonna be fast ... so that nv will drop price and consumer is the winner, but no ... nv didnt drop
i see a lot of peopel who hyped this card tried damage control ...
heres what most of em said :
1. HD2900XT was only meant to compete with GTS
2. image quality is better
3. immature dirver
i will say that for $399 its a helluva card , and from what i have seen its a good 3dmarkcard .... i'd say it score the same as a GTX ie 2900XT 850/2000 vs GTX @ 660/2100, but games .... GTX wins hands down
http://www.computerbase.de/news/trei...ibervergleich/
There's the link
Thats some sick improvment, can anyone get that driver ?
But with the loss of quality =(
