I wouldnt recommend using a pencil mod with this one... 200k means you will probably raise the voltage too far with a pencil
Besides pencil mods wear off after a while

can you tell us the name of the vgpu chip?:)

I solder on yellow :hitself:
I'll try for a few day...
i also have this PCB and have been looking for a voltmod. the highest i can get on stock voltages is 740/1850/1095. heres also my highest 3dmak06 score.

hi
who did vmod on this card. I can find read points and vmod point (mem and gpu).

Anyone know how to mod an Axle 8800Gt non reference pcb ? i made a thread and i am pissed off that i cant mod this card
here is the thread
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=194364
thanks HitandRun :) i appreciate it
here is the VCore mod For the Axle 8800Gt with the zerotherm cooler Confirmed it works with a 50k Vr but she has overvoltage protection @ 1.3Volts :( now i have to find the ovp mod :p
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/879/dsc02216kv3.jpg
At 1.26Vcore (load) she can go up to 780Mhz Artifacts free with ati tool and 800 for benchmarks but i need to solder some cap's on the coils she have some huge spikes between Vantage tests wile she change 2D to 3D voltages and sometimes she goes at 1.3 and the ovp kicks
i think i found how to override the ovp and set it @ 1.62V but i'am not at home now to test it
for the Vcore measure point i used one of the cap's leg next to the pwm coils and it seems accurate 1.1 with the mod off
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2...vgpudn0.th.jpg
i did the 1.1v bios mod to my xfx and now i can go up to its looks like 800/2000 maybe higher, if i had better cooling. im on the stock heat sink for now, im waiting for my MCW-60 & D-Tek Fuzion to show up. but im happy for now @ 780/1950/2100 on the stock heatsink
so i have a very crappy card :S :(
From my good experience, these cards are not worth watercooling. Thermalright HR-03 performed same as MCW-60 even though the latter loaded +10C less. But Going from stock -> MCW-60 should be great :). These cards are limited by 2-phase PWM. Unless you cherry pick your card, don't expect miracles with better cooling. Get a good 120MM and cool the back of the card. @Vatos_locos, forget about the coils, it's worthless and silly. I recommend soldering extra _low esr_ capacitors in parallel to even out the spikes.
i have the card on water because i have build my case this way so the has a dedicated loop and the cpu an other on
will do with the caps
Thanks Man :) but first i need to do the ovp mod witch i don't know how lol :D
i use the same bios from xfx i can get the core 800Mhz only if i keep the shaders @ stock and the mems @ 1000Mhz but my card had 1.1 V by default :/
i need to check what mine is at. Some guy flashed his bios to 1.2v's btw.
http://www.overclock.net/2966590-post8.html
Although his clocks kind of sux, since your getting 800mhz with lower v's.
i need help too :( i can' find the ovp mod for my 8800gt and i cant go over 800Mhz without it :(
anyone can help ?
i will post a pic of the voltera when i go home but i don't have a good camera if anyone has an Axle 8800Gt if he could take a good picture for me plz :)
anyone ? :( i know the pin for the ovp what should i do :p ?
ovp pin to ground is 104KΩ
i found the ovp mod :p i removed one resistor that was conected to the ovp pin and it had 114k when it was soldered and i replaced it with a 500k Vr and i set it @ 140k now she has ovp from 1.3 to 1.45 Volt i will post photos later today if someone has the same card the strange thing is that the resistor was from the side of the card where the voltera is :/
anyway now i can bench the core @ 870 @ 1.4 volts it's seems a litle crappy but what can i do :p
i need to find caps now :/ anyone know what caps do i need :p ? 1600 μF 6.3V are the ok ?
if anyone needs this
this is the Ovp for the axle 8800gt
remove the second resistor and solder one 500k Vr trim it to ~200k when it is soldered and you will get ovp @ ~1.45 V trim it to a higher resistor and the ovp kick will raise more
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1847/dsc02219af5.jpg
and this is the Vcore mod 50 K Vr to Ground
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7020/dsc02221yy1.jpg
and these are the measuring points
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6024/dsc02216mu3.jpg
and this is the Vmem Mod ( that i haven't test yet so until i will i take no responsibility if anyone burn his card )

Great job Panos (Vatos_locos)
You sure went through these data sheets really carefully :D
i just done with the mems mod and it works fine :)
@ Quake6 :
What were your final results? I have been waiting patiently for some better info on this alpha dog vmod. Previous posts were a little unclear on were the solder points are for the VR.
has vMEM pencilmod for ECS 8800GT 256mb?

Hi Guys !
I am looking for pencil or bios vmod for my Palit 8800 GT non refernce cooling. But i can`t take of my cooling system from my card becouse there is a plug.
ok i got my new gt in and i want to voltmod it. were can i find a 500Ω VR?
Does anyone have or can anyone help with the ocp mod for this xfx 8800gs (same as gt) please ? The ic is labelled BN-9H.Thank you.

Hey thanks. This is about as good as my camera gets.If you need macros of specific areas i can do that or i can borrow a camera for better pics of the whole pcb.

OK you gurus! Anybody knows how to do the OCP on the Galaxy 8800GT? Mine card is already voltmodded (look at post # 832) and I came to a limit on LN2. It looks like 1.5V under load it the end of this card. Need the OCP mod now.
HitandRun,
OCP: find a surface mount resistor connected to pin#35, measure resistance across the resistor (basically between pin#35 and ground). Solder a VR rated ~20 times the measured value across the resistor. Lower resistance to push back OCP trigger point.
About OVP (as per PM)....
Does the card crash if you increase voltage without any load on the GPU?
About OCP/OVP looks like I was lucky, 1.55v on load (aircooled) without any trouble
Because you have to be sure the value you lower it is the same on each power phase. Pencil modding it won't get you a reliable and stable result.
what happens if their not the same value? I couldn't believe anyway so i tried. Result seems good altough their not the same exact value ofcourse. It doesn't crush anymore under load at 1.45v and 850gpu. Values are 924Ohm and 937Ohm. Should i expect some kind of problem set this way?
No, those are pretty close in value.
Having some problems with the ASUS EN8800GT, i found a vgpu mod

but i need to find a vmem/ocp/ovp mod, anyone can help me?

hmm, think i have found the ocp resistor and the ovp resistor
possible the ocp resistor is 8kohm and the ovp resistor is 130k ohm?
fount the mem controller i think: APW7065

HitandRun,
Regarding the first picture (of the "chip") in post #832, where is this chip located? I have a Galaxy 8800GT 512mb and I cannot find this chip. Is it on the same side as the ram chips / GPU core or on the other side of the card?
nm, found your post on blazingpc and I found out it is on the same side as the gpu/mem.
Another question though, I have the Accelero S1, Rev 2 on my card. My card idles at 1.25v and immediately jumps to 1.35v with FurMark. After about 60 seconds, it slowly climbs to 1.39v at which point FurMark crashes, my DMM reports 1.25v again and then Vista tells me that the driver was restarted (sure beats XP's permanent lockup). Anyway, at the point of crashing, rivatuner reports temps at roughly 65 degrees. What I would like to know is this: what is the cause of this? Is this OCP kicking in? OVP?
DO NOT USE FURMARK ON THE 8800GT'S. i cant say this enough unless you want a dead card. you can look throught this thread and find others on the net that have killed there 8800gt's with furmark because it puts a lot of stress on your card and it will for some reason kill it.
this is the mod i did by removing the 2 in the pic and i ran 1.5 on water for awhile with almost 900 core being stable for 24/7 and crysis. but this is the dirty way and there are different ways to do it just didnt find the pic and got tired of looking. btw when adjusting voltage before on mine i wasnt paying attention and i seen 2.0 volts on the dmm and it shutdown but all was fine after a restart thank god. pretty tuff little cards but the memory sucks.
edit: i also have the asus 8800gt good card so far. been pushing it for awhile now going on a year and when the volts are high you can hear it screaming for less volts lol
OK, I won't use Furmark anymore. However, the same thing happens when playing Crysis. It's fine for about 5-10 minutes and then the graphics become corrupted and it locks up. Temps don't go above 60 degrees. The only way out is to continuously spam Alt-Tab until it registers the button press and switches back to the desktop.
I have exactly the same card as you btw HitandRun. My voltage jumper pins are next to the dual pci-e power connectors just like yours instead of on the long edge of the card like the other Galaxy 8800GT model.
Hi guys, I gotta question. I have read on XS, that OC more than 1000 on memory is danger. I got galaxy 8800GT HDMI version with 720 / 1800 / 1100 on stock cooling, so I should decrease mem to 1000 ?
krudki,
What you have read here on XS is correct. You can find more information regarding the issue, including a description of exactly what the problem is, here.
Whether or not the problem applies to a non-reference 8800GT (such as the Galaxy model) is a different question entirely and one that I myself am still trying to find the answer to however I suspect it does.
Hit and Run,
I applied your galaxy 8800gt volt mod to my galaxy 9800gt (they have the exact same PCBs and components). But right now I'm having trouble with OCP it seems. My stable to date is 750/1900/1000. I've read your posts above regarding pin #35 as the "OCP" pin. I'd like to know if you got around making the OCP mod work?
My card's OCP is somewhere 1.38v i think.
just remove the resistor on the ovp pin and it will work at least that happened to mine
Hit and Run,
can you show us the resistor connected to pin #35 for the OCP mod (GALAXY 8800GT) ? My eye is not good enough to trace the line from pin #35 to the resistor i'm looking for.
hit and run,
thank you. i'll wait for it.
i vmodded my ecs 8800gt according to this thread
that's the result i've come up so far
it's a bit of a crappy card, needs 1.38V Load, but anyway, i'm really happy with it
cooled by an AcceleroS1, Temperatures never go above 60°C :)
note that the Bench is with Vista64, with WinXP 16k should be possible (no LOD was used)

cudos to everyone who is contributing to such threads
Sorry since it took me a little while but here it is. OCP mod done tested good for 1.6V on air. I used a 100K VR and turned it down to 40K which resulted in no more voltage cut-off at 1.5V when before the mod.
http://www.cyberimpressions.net/out....80GTOCPmod.jpg
HitandRun,
So on the other end of those two cables is a 100K VR correct?
Thanks!
OK, here's a thought. If I pencil that OCP related resistor, thus lowering the resistance, will it increase the OCP limit?
Edit: What about if I were to remove the resistor entirely?

dont bother with mem in tests it show no improvment with less or more volts cause of quadama chips (1000mhz @2.05v stock)
you could always alter the vid from 1.1v stock to 1.4v this also move ovp/ocp further up the volt range
i did 0 0 1 1 0 =1.400v

thanks, my memory is Hynix, it is only 730mhz =(
I've been a bit slow on the uptake and quite busy, so I just modded my card tonight. I only did the vGPU mod and used a 500 Ohm VR. Previously crysis stable clocks were 702/1728/900 and now running 1.15v idle / 1.20v load it's crysis stable at 756/1782/900 (my ram is stock 900 and I don't think I'll increase it lest I burn out the controller). It got me a couple more FPS in the game and increased my 3DM 06 score by around 300 points. I could probably get 771/1832/900 stable but I'd need around 1.22 - 1.23v for that and I'm not sure the cards PWM and core temps would remain decent if I did that.
As I'm on air using a Zalman VF-830 temps are 49*C idle / 75*C load. The PWM is getting quite hot, so I intend to put a few ram sinks I have lying around on the mosfets and other components.
Thanks for the work you guys have put in to develop this.
EDIT - has anyone been running their ram at ~1000 MHz for a decent length of time without any issues?
The memory (Qimonda) on my card is and has been stable at 1044MHz for almost a year now. With reverse mod - vMEM @ ~1.95v.
Nice, what kind of card do you have?
I wonder why there was all the talk (from a supposed reputable source too) that 1000 MHz + will damage the card in a short time?
Also, what vGPU are you running 24/7? What kind of extra cooling for the PWM are you using? I'd be interested to know since it's lived so long.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...Image049-1.jpg
I am really interested in this mod..as I am still trying to figure out a mod for the EVGA dual-slot 9600GSO. I has the same layout pictured above..and uses the RT8802A.. yet it has SMR's in the mod location..? Any ideas..HELP!!
*I removed some of the resistors, for a VID increase [according to the RT8802A datasheet]..and no change!
CryptiK,
It's a plain-jane Asus 8800GTS 512MB.
GPU is watercooled and runs at 1.36v. Memory chips are bare, there's a 80mm fan @ 5v blowing on the RAM and the alu sink on the vGPU mosfets. Too bad the card has just lately started to trip no matter what freqs, it's kinda stable for hours of Crysis but might crash even at stock.
CL3P20,
Measure resistance between pin#4 of RT8802A, solder a VR rated 20× the measured value between pin#4 and ground. Tune down to increase voltage.
Thanks or the info. I was under the impression the GT's were the only cards susceptible to the memory controller burning out at 1000 MHz+ and that the GTS's were designed slightly differently and were fine? Almost all the GT's were released with mem speeds lower than 1000 MHz and the GTS's all had mem speeds above 1000 MHz.
@ Largon - Thanks a bunch.. I will perform the mod this weekend and post results. If you are correct, a lot of people have anxiously awaited this mod.. I will buy you a cake, so long as I have working GPUv. :D
CryptiK,
I doubt there's any difference in GT and GTS for what comes to the memory controller or anything related to memory as the GPUs are the same just GT is shader-crippled - GDDR and memory vregs are the same. Even the PCB is identical. And as such I don't think memory OC'ing on GT is any more "dangereous" than on GTS. Infact, I haven't seen any reports of suspicious memory deaths...
After looking at pics of both boards they do appear to be identical. What do you think the issue is with yours (crashing even at stock now)?
With 1.225v load my card appears to be stable at 756/1836/900. Temps are quite high though, in 27*C ambient its hitting 78*C in crysis. I put sinks on the GPU phase mosfets, they get hot but I can leave my finger on them, so they're probably close to 45 - 50*C.
It seems core increases give me the biggest gain in 3DM06, 18MHz core increase gives 108 marks increase, and 54MHz shader increase gives me 63 marks increase.
hi all!
it took me nearly 2 days to read the thread, but i am not man enough to try it.
its richtek RT8802A,but if i look on their site i got the layout and then a typical layout and its different.one time fb is 3rd and then 4th pin?
if someone could give me an idea-very appreciate your help
basco,
Written guide in post #1190 applies to your card too.
thanks largon for your quick answer.
but i am too silly to find fb-leg?
is this ok?
if i look at post 1189 above and on richtek site i could not figure out where fb is.-they have a pin-layout and one typical layout-and marked place above is my guess.
pins are so small that i have to follow the route of fb-leg and do the mod there?-is my thinking ok?
thanks for your time
The dot marks pin#1 on the chip. So in your pic pin#1 would be on the first from left on bottom row. #4 is 4th from left.
