The CPU is under Vapochill XEII and the card is under water (Swiftech MCW60) with two fans on bottom and one fan on top, and a lots of RAMsinks:D

My problem is the VRM temps. I see you have it sinked with Zalman heatsinks? How hot is you're VRM at full load?
omfg i feel so stupid.
ok, so anybody that has trouble with setting their memory clocks above 900 with the latest catalyst releases *from 7.12 and up to be precise*?
before i figured out the inf fix... then spent FOREVER trying to hack overdrive. then i got the crazy idea today, what if i just use 2 6pin pci express power cables instead of a 6 and 8 (modded bios so who needs overdrive anyways right?) so i took out my grounding mod so i have just 2 6 pins once again. loaded the new catalyst 8.2 and tested with 3dmark06. the 3d works! wtf?!?!?! WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THIS BEFORE?!?!?!??!!
I've made some test with Cat 8.2, but it turned out that cat 7.11 is still the best driver for 3DMark06 benching for my card (maybe in games is different). On the same settings 8.2 gives me 200 Marks less then 7.11. Situation with 7.12 and 8.1 is the same:(
My old E6600@4150, GPU-800/2000
Here are the results:
Cat 7.11 - 12 409
Cat 7.11 Crysis pach - 12 418
Cat 7.12 - 12 338
Cat 8.1 - 12 370
i get the same results.. cept the numbers are a bit higher.
cat 7.11 is faster for 3dmark06 BUT the later versions are a bit faster in actual gaming.

this man is dedicated to performance
Mine is 1.2250, I am going my loop together tomorrow (saturday) I got tied up today. I have water on my single card right now, its on the same loop with my quad however I am adding the 2900 pro and giving them there own loop where the quad will have its on loop. I wonder if the northbridge stock cooler is good enough on these x38 MBs?
i dont know on your mobo, but my maximus formula needs an upgrade... gotta drive all the way down to orange county tomorrow *45 min* to get some parts so i can rip this thing apart and put it back together on sunday (getting rid of all my blue led fans and putting in some scythe 110cfm for some push pull action... then installing some uv ccfl's for *bling*)

I think this is maximum of my rig with this card. It seems 17k are impossible whithout hard Vmod:)
ok so im ready to put my 2900xt's under some liquid cooling. what are your guy's thoughts on the mcw60 and ramsinks? should i get a full cover wb instead? if you are using a mcw60, then what are your load temps?
so........ya.......does anyone know the 2900pro fix for vista....it doesn't recognize my card after i flashed the bios to the 2900 XT.
Or does anyone know or have the orignial bios for the SAPPHIRE Model 100212SR HD2900pro BIOS? I would like to flash it back down.

The above test results seem low; want to improve them by adding a second card, but I can't find another Sapphire 2900xt w/1gb of GDDR4 like the one I have. Do see that newegg has a ATI brand with same specs 2900xt w/ 1gb GDDR4, will this one work together ok with my Sapphire; I think the drivers are different. Don't want to spend 520$ and not work.
Please advise! Anyone! Also I would have thought with the proccessor I have 3DMark06 would have given me a better score especialy being bummped up to 3.2g w/ 1:1 ratio on mem.
Any coments appreciated
Here is a bios colection: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/i...=&memSize=1024 And Pro bios is better then XT, because RAM timings of Pro are faster then XT;)
I use MCW60 with a lot of RAM sinks+2 fans on bottom and 2x120 radiator in separated ring(see post #1102), and higher GPU temps that I,ve saw was 52*C under load 996/2466. The better variant is fullcover wb, but you can't use it after changing your card with another one in the future. Before I was with Nv8800GTS, now with ATI 2900 Pro and I still use the MCW60:) There is mounting kit for NV and ATI.
And my GPU is in club 1GHz allready:D I manage to run it at 1007/2448 without voltmods and it gives me 16 901 Marks06 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5283124

is a 2x120 in a seperate loop really needed? ive got a 1x120 and a 2x120 in the same loop on just my cpu *prep for wc video cards* and i was going to split the cpu and video cards with the 1x120 rad... pump to cpu to 1x120 to video cards to reservoir *cooled by fan* to 2x120 back to pump. should i purchase another pump and keep the 2 seperate? both rads are have min of 110cfm push pull *up to 130*
i still have pleanty of room in my armor.
Under catalist control/overclock, settings are stuck on GPU clock 507Mhz, Memory clock 514Mhz. Can't change them! I unlocked, move the sliders to desired settings, but the apply button won't light up. I run test, it passes, press ok, settings stay the same why?
Should I uninstall, and re-install? 507/514 is just too slow!
Please advise!
any 2900 card will work in crossfire with ur existing card.
2900 XT/Pro 512mb/1gb
there´s no need to get the same card from the same company.
It´s crossfire not nvidias $hitty sli, where u need the exact same model of cards with the exact same bios.
all cards use the ati catalyst driver, there is no difference.
3ghz to 3.2ghz isn´t a huge jump... put ur mem on a divider and jump to 3.6ghz(or even higher) and u will see a big difference in 3dmark score.
Thank you for your quick responce, I appreciate your help with the info you gave me; Turns out newegg has a Diamond 2900xt 1gb GDDR4 for about 520.00$, but it doesent come with the crossfire bridge, will have to buy it seperately from Diamond products about 13.00$, I have my Sapphire bridge.
Thanks again!
Don't know whats wrong!

Got my x38 rig going yesterday evening. I can only seem to get 940/970 out of these cards but managed to push it to 22212 3DMark06 http://service.futuremark.com/result...eResultType=14
speaking from personal experience, the main graphics card *the one the monitor is plugged into, ie card 0* is the more important of the 2 and card 1 runs cooler, so just a quick tweak with atitool and you can do the volts for both mem and gpu on card 0. just set it the regular way in bios for card 1... you have about a 80% chance it wont crash out on you. i just wish i could get over 850 on my gpu's
*edit*
ALSO
ive found that they hynx 1.1 memory bios version is more stable. used to crash all the time now no crash at all... i thought 2900pro's were supposed to have hynx 1.0's but i guess i got 1.1's so if you have flashed from a pro to xt, and are on 1.0 try the 1.1's to get a bit higher memory clock. im running the mem at 990 with stock voltages.
here is my rig
http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...Picture001.jpg http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...cture005-1.jpg
ok so i ordered a bunch of parts... + 48 ramsinks *i will dremel the ones that end up being too tall*
question is, is 48 enough for 2 cards? i.e. ram, vrms... everything that should be sinked?
I flashed the pro to xt and OCed the cards individually, I pulled a card and used one at a time. I got 980/1070 out of the pro (flashed), the xt card I can not go over 940/970 or it freezes in 06 when the monster goes under the boat, the same place every time. As far as the RAM sinks I put EnzoTech BMR-C1 Pure Forged Copper Ramsinks on the memory chips (16 ea. card) and 4 Swiftech MC21s to go on the voltage regulators or what ever there called...
Edit: Before I flashed the pro I tried to run 06 and it gave me a message saying to use 03 or 05 because that card did not support the pixel shaders or something...
im going a very similar route it seems but im probably going to put a few more sinks on other things as well. as for your mem not going over 970 its seems like the same problem i had. perhaps you got a 1.0 hynix bios when you probably have 1.1 like i do.
try modding these bios'
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/9...12.070405.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/9...12.070518.html
one of those 2 will allow you to clock your mems above 970. i would try the club3d one first *lower one* as i suspect you would have a higher chance of success
seeing these gpu clock speeds makes me anxious about the parts that are coming in
My turn! For whoever said that you won't get 10k with an x2 processor under 3ghz, yesterday I finally beat my old best of 97xx, with a new score of 10,1xx, check out the sig (Vista 64 I might add). Clocks are 875/900 3dmark06 stable right now @ 1.25v, and max temp is only 60c, so I've decided that I want to go for 1.35v. By the way this is a Sapphire 512mb 512bit pro card, I changed out the tp for MX-2, siliconed 2-80mm fans onto the back side and ducted an 80mm from the front of my pc case directly into the stock cooler.
Here's the problem, ever since I flashed to the new bios, nothing shows up on my monitor until Vista loads, so I can't reflash. The only other change I made to the bios were really low 2d clocks, so I wonder if that might be the problem? If worst comes to worst I'll put in an old pci vga card to re-flash, but any other suggestions? (I followed all the steps, re-installed the drivers, and did the inf fix)
I have a DFI motherboard, do I need to do this algorithm fix thing?
I've heard this go so many ways, XT or Pro bios? Looks like 'yall are sayin to go with the Hynix 1.1 bios (I can't remember what kind of vram I have, though), but from the looks of it, that's a Pro bios.
Also thanks for all the work to everyone so far, I can't believe the kind of results I'm seeing from this little mod.
Well I am using the original bios for both cards, I did look at the chips on the xt and they say 1.1 on them. I thought the same thing this morning so I tried a random xt bios from the net and had the same problem. I will try the ones you posted though in the morning, its worth a try....
Edit: Hey a friend of mine has a 2900 pro 512/256 and he says after he saves the bios from the card the editor will not open it, you know anything about that? Its the 256 bit 512 memory....
crap. so i tried to blind flash (i'm assuming that's what it's called when you don't have any video) using the 1.1 hynix bios with the voltage changed to 1.35 and i wasn't sure if i was choosing the right options, well eventually it worked and booted into vista and everything seemed to be working. i tried setting the fan speed in riva tuner to like a safe 50% while i was messing around and when it went to detect the card, bam, no more video. i tried restarting over and over, using my dvi to hdmi, using the dvi to vga, using the pip with both at the same time...nothing! i thought i had a pci video card, but it's agp...anyone have any idea what i should do? i don't see why i cant see anything before windows loads (and now nothing even after vista loads). seems to me like this is directly related with the video bios.
my motherboard has two pci-e slots, and i have an 8800gt, could i put them both in at the same time and then reflash the ati card while on that? maybe i just gotta find a bios that likes my card.
help!
Has anyone tried this editor?

Excellent deal, have to say. =)
I'm also interested of that RBE. If anyone have tried it to HD2900, please let us know! Hope it's better than quantum force, I haven't got that working properly for my cards.
@madmanmarz
You have nothing worry about. Just use your GT (no matter what PCI-E slot you want to use. Then set that 8800GT PCI-E slot to boot first (from mobo bios).
Then flash with atiflash and use command -0 if 2900 is in first slot, or -1 if its in the second slot like road-runner told.
btw. I once had weird problem when OC'ing my cards. I played some game which freezed (after corrupted image) and then when I reset my pc, screen stayed black. I saw hd's were working but no picture. I tried everything -even removed motherboard battery overnight. Nothing helped until I plugged my monitor off the wall socket and yes; problem solved! Very weird. It happened once again and then I checked that vga worked fine and DVI was black. Wonder why it isn't enough if I turn off my monitor but I had to pull the socket before I got it to work again???
sounds like you have the motherboard bios set to init display pci, agp, or onboard first instead of pcie. try resettnig the cmos. THEN reflash your video cards. also driver 7.12 and up does not like 900+ mem when you have a 8pin pcie and 6 pin pcie power cables installed. switch to 6 and 6 to see if it helps.
thanks so much everyone, i'm gonna pop in that gt and check my motherboard bios to make sure pci-e boots first. i'm gonna try that other editor you guys put up because i like how it allows you to mess with the voltage for all the clock states, it also has a boot option, so i'm gonna be sure to leave that stock. lots of great suggestions, thanks again.
ps no way i'm clearing the cmos, lol i can't remember what my latest oc settings are. btw i'm running 2 6 pin w/ rivatuner. strangely ati tool works without the driver issue in vista 64 last time i checked, but the card doesn't go into 3d when the rendering box thing pops up anyway.
my memory doesn't like going over 900 right now, but maybe that hynix bios may change that...we'll see.
dont bother, its a driver related issue. there is an inf fix for it though.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...165389&page=10
okay well the rbe editor worked. i used the 2900 pro hynix 1.1 bios file and the only things i changed were both 3d settings to 1.35, so bios/startup shows up now. only thing i want to mention is that i had to use adapter 0, because i guess atiflash doesn't recognize the 8800gt at all.
8.2 drivers have the "HKR,, PP_ForceReportOverdrive4" line in there already. i checked it against the link put up for the 8.1's & vista 64 and in that, they are the same...i noticed that the line isn't in the same place as in xp (after all the fleshtone stuff). so it appears 8.2 are already fixed.
well, after 1.35v, max o/c was ~900mhz. sapphire 2900 pro 1.1 hynix bios works great, i was able to run 1050mhz without artifacts in rthdribl, but 3dmark stopped me just under 1000mhz.3d mark=12,200. max temps were about 66c after several 3dmark06 runs, but the fan speed was then @ 100%.
i did another bios, boot=default, 2d=.9v 375/415, 3d=1.2v & default clocks, uvd=default. i was able to get 876/950 stable after several 3dmark06 runs, which scores 12,100. idle temp is about 39-40c, load temps are 60c max.
so it look like my chip just sucks, but i'm very happy with my clocks @ 1.2v. btw, anyone see any noteworthy increases with higher memory clocks?
vrm seems to be getting hot... im afraid of even playing games! wtf?
touches 100c in 3dmark06 :(
i guess i have to try something else, or re-do the thermal adhesive. *have a 120mm fan blowing right on them!*
what is the typical "safe" range of the vrm?
I had same problem when tried my old zalman vga waterblock. I even left that "red cooling sandwitch" to cool mem and vrm's but vrm temps get 100C and mem got pretty hot too. I had 120mm fan but didn't help much. So I went back to standard coolers. :(
Now I have 2 MCW60's ready to install, I'm waiting another pump, rad, mosfet heatsinks and 32(!) ramsinks to arrive. Hopefully I get my temps down!
btw, 1950pro had problems with vrm temps even with standard cooler and my VRM temps hit about 110C. I used that card about 8 months without problems. Althought those vrm's were colored white when I checked before I sold it! :ROTF:
What kind of cooling do you have?
I'm pretty sure they are not going to last long at those temps. That 1950Pro was pretty extreme example, in vr-zone review they get 114C and over 120C when overclocking.
If anyone could tell us what are max temps for those VRM's?
In standard cooler I get 72C max temps for vrm's. Some might say even thats too much but I think about 85C would be safe.
One topic I found -look at those temps! Over 120C.

@EXPANDER, very nice clock on air. If you put under water with Vmod bios...
ok so the sinks i have for my vrm's had the worst thermal tape ever on them so i stuck them on with double sided tape *regular stuff.. thin though* i watched the vrm's touch 100 after 18min of running atitool scrubbing for artifacts *reported in rivatuner*
i thought it was way too hot and my tape was the cause so i put the stock cooler back on *well the plate anyways... gotta have the gpu's under liquid* and watched the vrms get up to 118 after the same amount of time! wtf!??! DOUBLE SIDED STUPID TAPE IS BETTER THAN STOCK COOLING!
one thing i did play with is just cooling the black part of the stock plate with compressed air... not much either and i watched my temps DROP. so i think im in need of some good cooling on both sides:rolleyes:
Have a look at how i solved it (post #1027)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1027
The mosfets are perfectly lined up to each other, no need for a thermal pad between chip and heatsink, just AS Ceramique.
[QUOTE=ZenEffect;2778808]ALSO
ive found that they hynx 1.1 memory bios version is more stable. used to crash all the time now no crash at all... i thought 2900pro's were supposed to have hynx 1.0's but i guess i got 1.1's so if you have flashed from a pro to xt, and are on 1.0 try the 1.1's to get a bit higher memory clock. im running the mem at 990 with stock voltages.[QUOTE]
thanks for that one ZenEffect.
i couldnīt get my mem one mhz above 900 without heavy artifacting in 3dmark06. i didnīt really know that there are cards with different ram chips. i just used a sapphire bios that i found on techpowerup at that time (a week or so after the release of the 2900pro).
i downloaded the hynix1.1 bios and now i can up my mem without any artifacts.
i even tried 999 on the mem, without artifacting, but 3dmark just locks up. guess iīll need a little more volts for the mem then.
edit: lol.. why does that "quote" thing not work???
Is there a Hynx 1.1 bios for the 1gb gddr4 2900pro?
On the xt card I can not get it to run more than 940/970 no mater what volts and it takes 1.35 to do that. The pro card flashed to xt it ran at 985/1071 as a single with 1.35. When I put it in crossfire I had to back it down to 960/1060 I think it was or it would freeze in 3DMark06...
Hmm.... thats interesting. I have a question. Does your XT flashed pro get the same core overclock with a volt modded pro bios?
Also, I just recieved the d-tek unisink r600 version, and I have a question. It comes with a thin aluminum heatspreader (no fins or anything) for the memory on the back of the card. But on the back I already have the ramsinks that came with the thermalright hr-03, there are three of those sinks in total, one for each row of ram chips. They are also aluminum but have nice flared fins, unlike the d-tek aluminum heatspreader. Should I keep the thermalright ramsinks, or use the d-tek heatspreader?
seems my video cards like 1.30 volts better than 1.35
1.30 let me clock higher than 1.35
I am not sure, I did not try it. I just flashed it to a xt and then started messing with it and ended up taking a card out and checking each one individually and running 3DMark06 until it failed and back off the clocks a little bit. I remember my first xt I could clock to 910/1070 with atitool but I RMA it and got a not so good of card evidently. The pro card ran higher than what I have it right now by itself but would not do those clocks when put back in crossfire...
Last night I ordered my 2nd 2900xt 1Gb GDDR4, along with a Koolance VID-290 water block for it too.
Come on Crossfire!
Should all be in by Wednesday, I'll update pic posting after I assemble Thursday.
Hope you, or someone can help me!
Right now with my mild overclock and just one card I get the following score; I know they are bad, hope this will change when my second GPU arrives wednesday:
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...verclocked.jpg
What do you suggest?
Also, On my catalist control center, under overclocking; I have unlocked and set to 743Mhz on GPU clock, and 1000Mhz on memory clock, but current clock settings read low Why? see following:
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...trolCenter.jpg
Is this because I am not runing something now or what? also how can I monitor this while playing a game or something that demands performance.
Please advise! thank you in advance
Man, push this QX6850. 8*400 is too low for this beast. And use ATI tool 0.27b3 to rise Vcore voltages. As I see you are on water, you can flash your card with Vmod bios 1.35v without problems. I use 1.35v Vmod bios and the temps are 53-55*C under load with 1007 GPU. Your sistem have big potential for performance.
Well as you can see I am a noobe, thanks for your help. Where do I find this ATI tool; Do I have it somewhere or do I have to download it. With regards to my mild overclock, man I just spent 5 grand on this pup and I have been chicken about overclocking. I am new at this and have been afraid to burn something up, just the CPU alone cost me 1000$. I guess I'll have to get up some courage and start experimenting.
Besides This Maximus board is a little buggie, it tends to overvolt, I have seen some guys on the Maximus thread fry their s**t.
Would anybody be able to do a test to see if the stable core speed is higher on a volt modded xt bios than a volt modded pro bios?
I always thought the pro bios was better because the memory benched faster. Is this not the case?
Forgot to plug in my Eheim 1250 pump today on my 2900s loop after trying out a 3870x2, it got hot one of the hose blew off one of the cards and got everything wet. I heard it when it happened and ran and unplugged it. It was in the process of rebooting when I jerked the chord from the power supply. I got everything apart and drying, been using a hair drier also. I will put it back together tomorrow and see what happens...
damn... u mean the water got so hot that the hose blew off?
then it must have been boiling hot. hope ur card is not dead.
get urself a 12v eheim pump, one thing less to care about when u fire up ur system ;)
Is there any way I can check the VRM temps without installing rivatuner? It's settings seem to conflict with those of both ATITool and CCC and I want to have a very hassle free software configuration here.
EDIT:
And you know what would be totally wicked .... a waterblock that fits the 2900 VRMs!!
What WBs do you have??
EDIT:
Looking at my VRMs under load, I see the temp of them varies greatly. For example the Slave #3 sits at 90C but the Slave 6 at 65C. Is this normal?
I got lucky, all hardware survived the water...
Iīm using the Innovatel Cool-Matic R600 waterblocks.
I guess itīs normal for the vrms to vary in temperature. some of them feed the gpu, which is very power hungry. not all parts on the card need that much power, so some of the vrms donīt get that hot.
Finnaly got my second 2900xt installed and running Crossfire.
I water cooled them both. see pic I posted on my signature.
today i wanted to watch a hd movie on my lcd tv thru the hdmi adapter of one of my cards. the movie looked great on my tv, but after a few seconds i thought to myself "damn.. is it silent movie or what??"
there is no audio signal coming out of my cards anymore. neither in winxp nor in win vista x64. iīve got all the latest drivers and hotfixes u need for hdmi audio in winxp, but itīs still dead silent. in win vista u donīt need any special drivers, theyīre already integrated, but there is also no sound on my tv when i choose the ati hd audio device.
what the heck is going on? i had hdmi audio working a few months ago. and now when i really wanna watch a hd movie itīs gone.
could it be because i flashed the card bios? i even tried a stock pro bios from the techpowerup site, but still no sound to hear.
i donīt know what to do else to get it working again.
can somebody help me please?
you need to set the playback to ati not your default sound card. its on the control panel under sound and audio devices. click the audio tab and select the ati device there.
Thank you for your compliment!
I must tell you though, I am realy dissapointed because between the additional GPU & Waterblock I spent around 664.00$, and did not get 664.00$ of additional performance. Before with a single card and while playing Crisis, I could set all video settings on high and ran flawlessly beautiful with the exeption of that if I set anty-alising past 2x it might stutter once in a while during hi action. Now with dual cards in crossfire I can go 8x and runs greate.
That is the only differance:cussing: Also 3DMark06 doesent see the additional card, and my score only went from 12283 to 12321. Both scores are with no overclocking.
Is there something I have to do with 3DMark06?
Thank you for your compliment!
With ref. to what rad I am using? Good question! Because the first thing I noticed is that my CPU idle temps jumped from 36°c to 47°c after installing the second card.
Reason being is that for my Chassis, I bought a Gigabyte 3Dmercury with a cooling system incorporated in it. The problem is that while this case is a very nice well built case, it uses nothing more than a souped-up 3D Galaxy liquid cooling system with a little better rad but yet small.

Looks like I will have to piggie-back something like the following units on the side:

I plan on assembling something like the following, without having to buy the whole kit:

I will assemble this set up with dual 120mm fans. I suspect that my pump may not be able to handle all these extra components. Do you think that I might be able to incorporate a second pump in line with out causing to much aggitation and spillage out the resevuar vent? The problem is that my pump and res. looks like a one unit assy.
