20% faster sounds just right for dual gf104. Good for nvidia as it should be competitive with cayman and overclock well. But antilles is still another story though.

wow if 6970 and the 580 are both a bit faster than a 480, it could be a battle for top spot that keeps things really fierce. (ignoring duel gpu cards)
So, first review up tonight at 12?
Nice, hoping for CAYMAN!!
In case, a double-GPU with full 384 SP GF104 would probably perform good enough to compete. But this 580 seams to be some kind of refresh based on GF100.
Anyways, I think nVidia will do "something" really aggressive to counter the ''Cayman'' right at the time of resale. Because the current price-cut for countering the 68xx is indicating that the "peace" is over, and they are up for a good fight in this round.
I don't think anyone said he is always wrong. His accuracy is pretty amiss typically, but things at the Fab level(not performance), he has been rather accurate as of late.
More so for him to go against his code, to spew all things that hate Nvidia, he wouldn't just report something relatively postive and report it unless it was true.
The equivalent would be like Steve jobs saying PCs offer better value and macs are over priced.
Or George Bush saying the war in iraq was a mistake and much of the financial woes are his fault.
But anyways Kadozer don't be a :banana::banana::banana::banana:.
Hey wasn't trying to be a banana just pointing out the possible fallacy in invoking Charlie even if it serves a purpose for an argument.
This doesn't sound like Nvidia's m.o.
They usually
-announce product
-announce the date of product to be officially announced
-at official announcement, they setup a website with a counter and possibly show a non working prototype
Keep in mind the logistics and time constraints of all this, and realistically don't see GTX 580 until mid Q1 2011.
I hope so or else AMD will do to us consumers what Kratos did to Poseidon...

Maybe and for the better changed, Nvidia has changed its hyping tactics. The gtx 465 was hyped up more than the gtx 460 for example. I can't believe they called the crap that was the gtx 465, the next 8800gt.
In addition, this could be very well a paper launch to stop cayman sales(we might have performance numbers, but we won't be able to buy it from retailers) and anything Nvidia says before caymans launch would really antagonize the sales of the gtx 480 which still has a niche before cayman comes out. The gtx 580 is not a competitor for the 6870 so hyping it up when barts is out is pointless and would just add further scrutiny for their marketing practises.
If Nvidia had a big announcement for the release of a gtx 580 at this point, it would just kill gtx 480 numbers and really do nothing to the sales of barts.
Nvidia should be able to cook something up after the release of gf100 at this point, AMD was able to do it and they had a good product to begin with. NV has to do it because it has a seriously flawed product and if they ever want to get in the driver seat again, hopefully they have been feverously trying to get a new architecture or better yet experimenting on cards so they don't screw up their next release.
What the heck, trolling. I was just saying Charlie said this card might be coming. I wasn't even calling out other members or trying to get in a flaming costest. The tone of my post which Kadozer originally responded to was quite respectful. And he somehow still tried to imply my as the fanboy(which is definitely trolling). What's with double standards?

How is that trolling? Especially in a thread which is specifically about the gtx 580? So basically if we don't say this card isn't coming out and the card is not being made, we are a troll, simply ridiculous. I think it might somehow be mistaken as trolling if this was the 6870 thread or an AMD thread. But in a thread that is specifically about the gtx 580? Man...I can't get some of these forum members reasoning.
I am not even being optimistic. In this thread, I have said if it comes out this year, it's likely going to be a paper launch. I have said nothing really about performance.
That was already posted this thread hours before here:

The one good thing about this thread was it was containing all the fighting some what. I like when hardware news starts popping up all the newbs start making new threads.
The 512 cuda core card is possible the 768 core rumor is such an odd number. I'm sure they could do both, but not until march at the earliest. Looks like Nvidia will miss Christmas again lol. I wonder how nvidia's financial statements will look this quarter.
More FUD:
Could this be true?Quote:

If they think it can beat the 69xx series (excluding antilles), wouldnt it make sense (also from a marketing/sales perspective) for them to brag about it as the release date nears? Maybe the cards are ready and they will announce a release date close to that of the ATi cards sometime soon
Sorry if this is old news I just came accross it just now.
