did u measured with a DIMM or with Asus Probe readout. 0.04 seems a big droop man:X I thought the new BIOS fixed this and actually overvolts abit during load? My P5K deluxe got just .008vdroop during load (blend) .016 droop small ffts. But unfortunately it got a vdrop ( mean what u set @ bios and what u got @ windows idle), is like 0.03/0.028

well this is the problem im finding, the asus pc probe software says im only setting 1.38 v for vcore when in the bios i set 1.45, but if we use 1.38 as our real set voltage then i measured with a multimeter i end up with 1.34-1.35.

hmz interesting , but did u enabled loadline callibration and with the last BIOS: 0505?

gar i upped vcore to 1.55 and prime is still loading 99% on task manager. fyi.

You have a better cpu.

I have confirmed that this issues is current related...a decrease in temps made it go away. Also, an increase in temps @ lower voltage made it happen, but only over 1.425 for me.

I think, if we look at the VID of these cpu's, alot would be obvious...assuming that Intel is accurate in TDP rating, my cpu consumes 105w @ 1.2375v, 2.4ghz.

So, Amps x Volts= Watts, or Watts/Voltage = Amps. So at stock, my cpu consumes 84a @ 1.2375v.


What's your vid? If it is higher, your cpu will consume less Amps, ergo you would run into the issue @ higher voltage than I do. I bet GAR's VID is higher too...


Now, I tohught it was current form the start...and that has not changed, obviously, however remedying the situation is not something I can do...as these cpu's I have do not exhibit this behavior on other boards. It would seem like I would need an OVP mod for the board before I could overcome this...or to identify the driver/dll responsible for the system process acting this way. I'll be trying to figure this out today...

Hmmm, my vid is 1.2675...........i wonder if it does this with other boards.........wish i had another c2d board to test it......cadveca if you have another board give it a shot.

Unfortunately, I have a Quad 'G0' with the same VID as you here (1.2375v), and I don't get the problem at all. I can load 100% perfectly fine with Prime/Dual Orthos/OCCT/Folding...

Well the MB is so far the biggest mistake I've ever made, its crap there is no, nda, nil way to backup up the system and restore it. There are really only a few solutions for backing up and restoring a Windows System, the best is Acronis Trueimage or a poor second is Norton Ghost. I've always used Acronis Trueimage in the past, as Ghost well is out of date. It makes no difference how good the MB is if you can not back of Windows, as stability is not one of Windows strong points.
The problems are:
Acronis does not see any drives attached to the MB from the recovery disk (tested in IDE, AHCI and RAID modes), (even version 11 home, which is only a month old).
Linux works, but can not start Acronis without a floating point exception (this is really intresting as I use it on the same software without issue at work)
Acronis does not run under Windows Vista x64 without crashing (no messages, but a nice core dump)
Ghost 12 does not support Vista except by dos disk (from fourms).
Last ditch effort is to use partimage from a linux rescue disk (not likely but better than nothing, will advise)

So basically without a backup solution I can not use the system at all, and I'm stuck with a useless system.

I have a G0 X3220 and 4x1GB OCZ Reaper PC9200 on this board and I can't seem to get higher than 3600. I would greatly appreciate some tips on how to get higher.

Right now I have these settings changed:
CPU Ratio: 9
FSB Strap: 400
DRAM Freq: 1066 (3:4 divider) (I think 1:1 would work too, just testing this)
Timings: 2T, 5-5-5-18
CPU volt: 1.55
All voltages at the highest "green" setting.
Both spread spectrums off.

I tried pushing every vsetting way up, but I cant get P95 stable at any higher FSB. Are any of you guys using a lower FSB strap to northbridge? If so, what are your mem settings?
I didnt touch the REF settings. Did anyone need to change those?
I cant get P95 stable with any lower vcore settings. Is there anything I should change that would let me lower this one (other than speed of course)?

i have q6600 running right now @ 3.8 under water cooling @ 36c idle 45c under load
cpu volt 1.55
ram @ 853mhz @4-4-4-10
i have found your ability to overclock has direct connections with all the other weird settings you can change on there i just played around with them and im rock solid running @ 425 fsb oh and i also have 4 sticks of ddr2 1066 crucial balistix

I have many boards, and as I stated, this behavior is not there in other boards...however a few of them are subject to "multi-bounce" under same conditions.

Yes, I understand where you are coming form, however the "ideal" i listed assumes that each cpu draws that 105w(95w for G0). I can safely bet, however, that your cpu IS NOT drawing that 95W, while GAR's cpu is very close to doing so. Current draw by VID is only an approximation...it is not exact. just as the TDP of each cpu is not exact, although Intel has exact specs...


I hate to say this, but you must open your mind a bit. There's no emotion in any of my posts...I jsut state things as they are, from my perspective. I am fortunate, however, that because of my lack of emotion, and my perspectiv, I do not discount anything as a possibility until proven otherwise, and your observations of your own cpu does NOT prove otherwise...what volts are you using for your cpu? What cooling? load temps? idle temps? All of these affect current consumption of a cpu. Better cooling = less leakage = less current consumption.:fact:


Now, please take no offense from my comments; that is not my intent. But please do not be so quick to judge a situation without first obtaining ALL of the information. I have not got all the info myself yet(working on it), but i can guarantee that should I have your cpu I could get the same clocks as you, if not more, on my board, using the same cooling. I can also guarantee that my cpu or GAR's cpu would behave just the same on YOUR board, as you are not aware that I have more than one Maximus, which exhibits the exact same behavior at the exact same places.

The cuase of this problem is not in quesiton...controlling it is.:shakes:


Also note that while you have the same VID as I do, G0 draws less power than B3, which i have. So...1.2375 x AMPS=95W in your case. 1.2375 x AMPS=105W in my case, ergo my cpu will draw much more than your does.

Even better, we cannot directly compare power consumption of different revisions of the same chip. I run @ load @ 73c, under water...you'd probably not even hit that on air...

Is Anybody Air Cooling the SE Model?

Looking at the board, I am not sure how good the fusion block will work for heat dissipation.

I read in other forums that some people actually remove the fusion block that covers the NB. Is this even possible just to remove the fusion block? What do we do with the pipe connecting to the SB?

If removing the fusion block is possible, should I get a MB cooler to cool the MB?

I can tell you it works perfectly fine! Why shouldn't it? My NB temp is at around 40C (38c-41C) with 1.61v. I don't find iy restrictive on the loop either.

I'm aircooling the SE with fusion block. My cooling is ThermalRight 120 Extreme. My cpu is q6600 @ 3618,2. Ram is Corsair XMS2 6400 @ 402.

It's been steady as a rock for 1 week now. I dont pay attention to NB temp, as long as its stable. CPU is never above 51c.

BTW my ram is labelled 1.9v. Any1 know if thats good or bad, and why it is either way?

I am curious about the NB temperature.

I am concerned because on the P5E, there is a heatsink on top on the NB with lots of heat fins to dissipate the heat.

When you air-cool the SE with the fusion block, did you remove the caps on the water connectors?

who hoo, i am a newb, registered a few days ago and got activated today.. keep up the good work guys.. i been reading daily since page one and longer.. i decided to finally upgrade from my 2.5 xp2500 shuttle w/c rig after waiting and waiting for what seams like my whole life.. i have been looking at everything for years then seen the gigabyte x38 ddr3 board and was just a click away untill i ran accross this thread in the very early stages. i went ahead and got myself a asus maximus se about 1.5 weeks ago it has been on my shelf next to my e6850 for the last week.. i can't wait untill i can gather up the rest of the parts for this well needed upgrade..i have 4 stix of balistix 8500 and a 26 inch a full tower on the way now. the next will be my 1+k psu, 2, 74gb raptors and 1 2900xt then all the little things like water blocks, 2 water pumps,2 radiators for 2 seperate loops with a 3/8 loop covering the 3/8 barbed nb and gpu and a 1/2 inch loop covering the cpu alone..that should take me well into the next month just to get me started.. untill then i will keep reading and hopefully i can learn enough to jump right into this new stuff.. especially comming from socket A..

thats 3 secs. after 3d-gaming-load. testet twice.

BTW, CPU is not up that high. usually 29c after gaming. Its 51 when running Orthos, prime95 and SuperPi same time - at max.

Thanks, that is wonderful. I can't get mine stable at 425 with those settings though. I tried upping the voltages with no luck. Did you experience that raising any particular voltage limited your OC compared to a lower voltage?

I have Reaper PC9200 memory. Can anyone give me some suggestions on mem settings to try in order to get a higher OC? My men should handle speeds close to 600..

coming from a commando i had to set my corsair 8500c5's
to (5-5-5-15) 2.2v manually or it would eat them

I have the same ram mate, works pretty fine on all the baords I have tested so far , not much to change just ram frequency and voltage for ram, be carefull the baord overvolts the ram , works fine here at 2.0 setting, if it doesn't boot disable static read control... Board OC's fine to 450FSB ( keep ram at 900mhz ) Nb at 1.35,...

I see you guys going all high on the NB voltages, pretty high to me, I can run 450FSB with only 1.35 on the NB,... though I have to disable static read control then in the bios otherwise it will reboot when loading windows, though the CPU is fine at 3.6 ( so 450 x 8 and ram at 900mhz then ), haven't primed it (yet) but folds on all 4 cores at 100% ( better use of power then useless Prime to me) and has shown no hickups when gaming or sortlike...

Anyone share to update me on the NB voltages ?

Hi, I've just installed water cooling but is it normal for my motherboard and CPU temps to reported as extremely high by both probe and everest? At the moment I'm running Prime and my CPU core temps are between 48-52c but my CPU temps shows 218c and my motherboard temps is 199c, lol it's going to catch fire :eek:

I dont know if this will help someone but most of my settings are at AUTO, achieves 3.74ghz stable, have clocked BFG8800GTX cards from stock OC standard to 640Mhz Core 1000Mhz (effective 2000Mhz) with Riva Tuner.

Have been running 24/7 last three days, Under load Temps reach 55 GPU and 50 max on everything else, probably because watercooling all in one loop.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how i can improve on this. I have been looking at MemSet but have not used it as yet. I would be interested to know Loco what timings and what dividers you are now achieving with the Ballisitic Sticks you have?

I have a lot of probs in Vista with 8800 keeps coming up with Stuck in Thread Error, I just hope driver maturity will rectify this. Anyone else any problems with this board and 8800 and Vista?

Got mine two days ago, immediately upgraded to 505.
The board is Maximazing! I'm Loving it. (Asus Fanatic:D ).
With the right bios this thing will fly, who needs DFI or Gigabyte DQ/noIQ!.

Right now I'm just waiting for newer bios,, early next month maybe.

i just changed to the 505 bios from the shipped 401 and wow i have to say every voltage is over by .1 to .13 except cpu vcore and the sb voltages. be careful flashing to this bios if you had settings from the original bios they most likely wont work.

Anybody got an Auzentech Prelude running with this board & Vista X64?

As for the life of me i can't get it to work,the driver & software installs ok but when i double click the "Console Launcher" or "Audio Console" icons i get the following error.

"Unable to find audio device.Please make sure that your audio device is enabled & installed with it's driver"

Or

"This software is not compatable with the installed device"

In device manager the driver is installed & has no yellow question mark next to it?

That was the lowest I could get with my ram timings/speed and running 4GB of it.

I am having a problem recently after 1 of my sticks died, that when I restart in windows the overclock fails for some reason, and the comp double boots to let me change it so it works...never ever had this happen before, would it be possible my other RAM is damaged but not erroring in memtest? Just a shot in the dark I suppose.

Anyone know of a good way to set up a couple fans for the NB and SB without removing the heatsinks it came with? I'm not ready to do water cooling yet, but when I do I'm thinking about the ZALMAN RESERATOR 1.

I think 356 or 378x9 is not possible. Isn't the multi. maxed at like 8 without having a extreme c2d? Also make sure your not pushing you RAM to far. Might need to set it back to DDR 667 (1:1)

Here is what i have so far, mind you it is 82F degrees when i took this screen shot, its hot in LA today.........Primed for about 3 hours.......it could go more but i needed to play Crysis so i stopped it, all looks good for me, this is a setup i think i will keep...........

haha. i didnt see the first number, i set it to 1.13 and 1.14.. not 1.3 and 1.4

so now my computer started with 379x9 and voltage @ 1.4

maybe i need glasses

yea that happens at times for me too, i've had the board about 2 weeks and its happened about 4 times..
but it only happens when I do a restart from vista, never from a cold boot
when does it happen for you?

Yes, it's happened to me several times and all the settings were lost. I had to set the BIOS all over again.

Yup same issue- Had it once only, raised my dram voltage and hasnt happened since..

I hvaea really NEWB question for you guys, Im use to deleting my Drivers and cleaning them with a sweeper in Safe Mode- but on this Motherboard it seems the F key for Safe mode is gone, how do You guys enter safe mode??

Btw, Im now running my E6850 and Crucial DDR2 1066 2GB Ram @ 3.84 and DDR2-1140 8 hours orthos stable.

No hiccups here. I then oc'd my 8800 ultra to 678/1152, I went up to 678/1161 and it worked fine on any benchmark and games, but I got some artifacts when I played Crysis- So i backed down and it went away, guess that was the limit for the card, any higher and im sure id see the polygon artifacting in any game, Which is good- I know its a safe OC now! the GPU temps on this board ARE MUCH MUCH lower than my Last P5K- At full load with the OC I get up to 75 max, whereas the P5K was at 82.

Prolly due to less heatoutput from the mobo itself, I really like the Formula, though I cannot run the settings some of you do... the board keeps rebooting itself then before entering windows... I iwll do more testing this week to find out as I know they are memory settings related again

I trie djust about everything, but 3.8Gz is the highest I can get stable in P95. I was able to boot at 4.1Ghz but it crashed once I started P95. I might be able to reach higher if I really crank the vcore voltage, but Id rather not. How high is it safe to go?

CPU core load temps are from 66-71C under load, 30s when idling. NB and SB temps under load are 42 and 44 respectively.
My cooling:
Dual 5.25" bay reservoir
Loop 1 (7.16"tubing): res -> MCP655 -> PA 120.2 -> STORM -> res
Loop 2 (3.8" tubing): res -> MCP350 -> MCR220 -> Fusion block -> DD 8800GTX block -> res

Are you using a PS/2 or USB keyboard?

USB, and I realized that I had legacy support turned off and now it works with it turned back on.

I've noticed that all of a sudden my vcore won't change. No matter what I set it on, the bios shows 1.467 and so does sandra and cpuz, with no fluctuation whatsoever no matter if I set it to 1.40 or 1.55 or anything in between.

I just installed my board on Friday and did some testing and I'm not sure if my temps are good or not. The alarms for ASUS Probe II keep going off and warning me.

Would appreciate it if someone can comment on them:

Under full Load:
MB 39 deg C
NB 52 deg C
SB 46 deg C

CPU temps:
ASUS Probe => 25 idle and 39? load
Core Temp => 35 idle and 50 load

Is this good? No overclocking yet and I get some alarms for mem voltage but I forgot to write those down.

The temps above are after running Prime 95 and SuperPI (32M -> one for each core).

My Mobo temp is 38°C under full load at 3.6ghz ( 8 x 450 ), nb and SB temps around 40-45°c...

Is your case well ventilated ? becasue these temps at stock indicate something is lacking with your airflow, wich case do you own ?

Yes the front door is open at all times. I'm gonna try it with the side of the case removed, just to see what happens.

PS: Would 4GB of RAM cause XP (32 bit) to be unstable? Just wondering. I have 4GB because I plan to dual boot to Vista. I know that XP only recognizes 3.5GB

Try increasing the RAM voltage a tad and run again.

ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA has several problems with RAM. I have Ballistix PC8500 and I can't boot at 1200MHz (and my sticks pass superpi 1M at 1400MHz). :shakes:

Will do but going to try testing 2GB alone first. And then test the other 2GB alone as well.

Now back to the story....again.

I removed the side panel on my case to see if the temps change and below is my story.

After I removed the panel, I left the comp for a bit but the alarms started going off again.
Alarms for Vcore, SB2 and Opt Fan are just a few that I paid attention to.
The problem is that the alarms only happened for 1 or 2 seconds and then went back to normal.

Examples:
- Vcore dropped to 0.26v a one point
- SB2 jumpted to 1.82v from 1.54v
- Opt Fan went to 0 rpm but the fan was still running!

After a while though, i notice the MB temp was 163 deg C!!!!! Seriously what is going on here?

So I reset the BIOS. I did not change anything at all. Not even turning off the pic at boot up.

Maybe there's a problem with your board. I would suggest doing a complete reset of the BIOS.
Unplug all cables from the back of the computer(anything that can supply power to the MB), and pull the CMOS battery for like 10 minutes and reset the BIOS with the jumpers if there are any. If not use the back panel reset. Then boot into BIOS and LOAD Factory Defaults.

Yeah I had this issue when I first got my board...everything was whacked out, could not get it stable, then I pushed an overclock, and the board reset itself after "CMAS CHECKSUM BAD".

I think you'll have no luck, Majoram, until you see as I did. You may also want to try just two GB of ram...whether it's one stick or two doesn't matter, IMHO.

I havnt tried 8GB's yet, but with 4gb's this set is awsome, got it at ddr 1111 with no issues, 2.1v only, this is my fav set of ram yet, very easy to overclock, dont expect ddr 1200 but if your looking at a stable 1100 with low voltage this is a good set, and cheap too! :up: :up:

I havnt tried 8GB's yet, but with 4gb's this set is awsome, got it at ddr 1111 with no issues, 2.1v only, this is my fav set of ram yet, very easy to overclock, dont expect ddr 1200 but if your looking at a stable 1100 with low voltage this is a good set, and cheap too! :up: :up:

This will be for my 24/7 gaming system, so I'll be more than happy with anything more than 1000 @ 2.1 volts with 8Gb. For now I'll use it with my ASUS Maximus Formula and later when 7xx series Nvidia chipset for Intel arrives I'll transfer them there because I need SLi capable board for Crysis and some of the newest games that are about to come out.

Yeah, i might be going to the 780i SLI as well, the new games tax my single GTX too much, i need dual 8800GT's , but before i make me decision, im going to wait for the 3870's to show up, if it shows to be as good as the 8800GT, i will go for crossfire this time around, some say crossfire is more efficient than SLi, but well have to wait till November 15th.

Hmmmm, try setting all voltages to auto, except for cpu and dram, that works good usually, the board itself will adjust the voltages to what they would need to be.........try that see if it helps.

also remember to turn off any performance enhancements in the bios, the booster etc........

^^ Leghoofd, those temps arent that bad? My temps are round 38 c MB, 45 SB and 50-52 NB after 8 hour prime. But My OC is a bit different im running 427X9 with my ram clocked at DDR211400 I have my DRAM set at 2.14 which gives me 2.24 and my NB at 1.62 which is a high NB volt but it seems this board wont be stable without a higher NB volt, to me its def the downfall for this Motherboard, but def something i can live with- as long as my temps are lower than 55 im good.

My E6850 gets to 55 degrees at the end of a orthos session.

I had a very negative experience with two Maximus Formula SE boards, none of six memory sticks would run at any setting :down: Took them both back to the store and now am temporarily using a P5K Deluxe...

I think you'll have no luck, Majoram, until you see as I did. You may also want to try just two GB of ram...whether it's one stick or two doesn't matter, IMHO.

Yeah I thought so too and I remove 2GB and did a memtest again and got a bunch of errors.
So I removed that 2GB and did another memtest and got errors in the first test!

Well I did do a complete reset before I tried memtest the second time around.
But I didn't remove the battery or anything, I just used the button at the back.

Does anyone know which memtest program is better to use???

I'm gonna try the other memtest now (Memtest 86 v3.3) and later I have some OCZ RAM that I will try testing with.

Nah, I'm typing from it now. Like I said earlier, I forced an overclock that I knew was bad. The board failed to POST a few times, adn then when it DID POST, i got the message "CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR" after which the board has been playing very nice.

It really seems as though there is an issue with some of these boards actually writing settings in bios to the bios chip itself, or reading, as I had time on DDR3X38 before this board, so I was well aware of what this chipset was like.

Your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine...I could not get CAS4 to work right, but CAS5 with 2GB seemed ok, on some boots. ALso of note is that the chipset was topping 60c...and when it went over, nothing was stable @ all...stock..overclocked..nothing. At first I attributed this problem to an issue with the chipset and 4GB, but i really think that there is something else @ fault here...and the recent pics of a rev. 1.03 board(mine is rev. 1.02, yours probably too) really points to it being an issue with the board's PCB or some component mounted on the board. I'd really like to see full pics of the rev. 1.03 to see what's different..chances are I've got the parts to make the same changes myself...

both ram and NB voltage should be increased with 4gb, puts more strain on the NB with more ram.

my NB is 50c Hot..


is that OK? what is the max temp i should have on the NB??
