Try the above plz... I can boot and be stable at 227 Bclock with my crap 950... no other board has done that here (not Xpower, not UD9)

Out of all the chips tested this is the 2nd best so far... http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t/06630ghz.png
Very impressive Bodar,
my word you must have pumped some cash into your machine, how many chips do you now own?
I must admit I really want one of these 980's what's the secret and the best to look out for?
Thanks man! I decided to basically test 20 chips total.. Not all where 980x's A couple x5660's and a xeon w3680 as well.. This time I tried to get the same batch number for all 980x's.. This batch is great! So far the
lowest clock I've seen on this batch is 6400mhz.. There's 2 chips that I really like but I'll probably sell the rest.. Just decided to go nuts this time.. Hope to make a little money back once I sell them. cheers!! -Beaux
Sorry I referred to you as Austin instead of Bodar, I was looking at your location and it stuck in my mind lol.
I assume you are using LN2 to cool these chips at that speed?
Don't think there's any other way to go over 6ghz with a GT...
try first Prime95, set to 8 threads and run Custom 20-20K set... this to determine CPU stability first..., then we will move on from there... if it reboots you need more Vcore...
Can you post your BIOS settings for 4.4Ghz with the 920 and 0704 Bios ?
I am at 4.33Ghz now :

Pretty impressed with this board:up:
255 bclck was impossible on my RIIE...Vtt was only 1.4 v
thats just amazing 1.4 vcore to get that 4.8 got your self a great chip there i cant even get 4.3 stable at 1.37 vcore.
anyone else having trouble with 704, I get corrupted bios reflashed twice now.
0704 works fine for me, have not OC'd the 980 yet with it, will see if I can get the 255 bclck as well
flashed to 704 using ez flash yesterday from 534 worked fine thankfully :)
Single Stage
Splave Im all good on 0704, not sure what to suggest sorry !
Kortas, you are very welcome my friend, glad your all up and stable.
Ive ended up at 4.2 stable with my 920 , cant run to the 980 as Ive done my cash for now on a couple of C300s ( raid 0 on the Marvell) very pleased with them so far :-)
Rick
I think its the 5984 bios on my bios chip 1 that is messing it up when I go back and forth. Will try flashing both to 704
Ok just updated my bios to 0704 all went well so i tried 200x21 for 4.2 and vcore at 1.375 it just would not boot into windows BSOD!!!Can some1 plz post some bios settings for me to try dying to get this 980x stable at 4.2 or 4.3 that will do me.But having problems geting there
i have added a template i have copied would like to know what to set it at for 4.2 or 4.3ghz.

Put Dram at lowest possible and UCLK 2x DRAM, set QPI Link to Auto and get your CPU stable before you start tuning your memory.
Then try 4,2 with 1,35 Vcore :)
Disable these as well as C1E

hey guys, has anyone of you used a EK-FC Triple Serial Bridge for 2 video cards in slot 1 and 3 , I ordered the Dual Bridge but its not fitting(it would fit for slot 1 and 2) but I want to use 16x PCIe lanes....so will the triple Bridge work for 2 cards or I need 3 cards?

kullymontana i bet its your QPI/DRAM Core Voltage, 200bclk and mems at 1000 is tough on IMC, it might need a tat more volts.
Seems with these 920 chips your either lucky with one which likes a high bclk or you have one which hits a wall at 200 max unless you volt the hell out of it.
mine seems to be one of those thirsty for volts
I can run a 215 with high qpi volts and qpi slow mode with a multi of 21. but its not prime stable. Still working on some voltages I'm gettin further each time.
I've tried running a 222 and 230 no go!
Some pics of my benchmarks and my mobo with the blocks attached.
Another chip tested from the same batch... I posted the batch number as well on here..
This one is not as good as my favorites but still awesome! Probably sell this one.. It will run all benchmarks at 6200mhz pretty easily.. no cb once again at -170 / -180c :D
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6500mhzcpu.png
That was using 0704 bios... batch number: 3006A442
very similar to my set up there Kortas,
good job m8

I have the i965EE and need to know what you guys would say would be the MAX amount of vcore for a 24/7 overclock (trying to reach a stable 4.4GHz) I am close to going on water in a few weeks, but for now I am stuck with air (Noctua NH-D14) which is not a problem. The problem I seem to have is ICH core (NB) reaching 60C ... I haven't noticed it going any higher, but I still think that is high IMO.
I have taken kortas' BIOS settings (from his post # 929) and started playing from there. I have tried 21 multi with 210 BCLK but I got random BSODs when running W95. I tried upping the CPU voltage a bit but I am afraid to go over 1.44v without water cooling. So I went back down on the BCLK to 205 and that's where I am at until I know it's okay to go higher on the CPU voltage for a while. Anything I am missing?
Kully we pretty much have the same specs. You can try these settings if you like - here
Hey AKHandyman, I wouldn't put that chip over 1.44V at all if I could help it.
60 isnt so bad for the ICH on air, mine was reaching 100 on air and resulted in reboots, needless to say I attached my full cover wb a little earlier than I anticipated, now running much nicer temps, even under load.
Under the stock heat sink you will be presented with the worst thermal compound you will have ever seem, slightly resembles crusty mustard but harder.
when running a near stable 4.44 I'm having to use a high QPI/Dram core volt.
but my cpu core volt remains at 1.42 highest.
I'm going to try it again tonight with different voltages, will let you know the outcome.
I know.. Me either! It's crazy! It was running through 06 and vantage at -170c to -180c with no problems or freezes.. There is one out of the batch that cold bugs around -150c but so far that's the only one..
Thanks so much! I love these cpu's so far! Going to run more tests after a little work today. cheers!
Karlitos, I don't think you'll be able to get the triple-bridge to work.
At best, you'd have to put a 3rd "dummy" link into the middle position and run some tubing between the two ports and I think you'll probably run into space issues trying to do that.
But, if you decide to give it a try, let us know how it goes. I like those SLI Bridges and if you can get it working, it would be prettier than other connections.
A triple EK bridge works the same as the dual for two cards. All you need is a blank serial link to connect the center two holes.

ddr3 2175mhz ...a little too high..change multiplier.
well if i change the multi i go lower than 2000mhz .
^ why is that a problem?
well really i want it to stay at 2000mhz and above not lower i want it to do what it surpose to run at not lower.
You can look at my 2000MHz settings for some reference and comparison if you like.
EDIT: ooops, sorry for double post.
There's a good combo using the 163x27 which I was running at first. It was about 4.41 or so with 1960Mhz 3920 Uncore which is very decent ;) i was running it on 1.39 vQPi so you can try that if you like. You may also need to raise PLL to >1.8. You see for daily use Intel max QPIv is 1.4 so you may need to lower the uncore below 2xDRAM to stay under 1.4. Up to you really
Im begining to give up now tried alot of settings still when i run prime95 instant bsod or one core fails.
:rocker:For me there is an incompatibility with the trident gskill ...... over 222 no post and led dram on .My Xeon w3520 whit msix58m and rampage gene 2 starts at 228 bclk and push in win at 235.

3005F729. Hope it runs as cool as zsamz's did
kully i'm yet to see a 980 that cant do 4.2 under Intel Max volt specs so i'm pretty sure yours can unless you really are that unlucky
Well I could just sep it to CPU level up to 4.2ghz and let the bios do my settings and see where we go from there .
What's the highest vcore these babies can take safely?
Hi Guys,
Doing a new setup now, I have read on the forum that most of you guys are cleaning of the TIM from your motherboards and changing it out for another. My question is would you guys do this first or fire up the board check your temps, then maybe change if needed?
Thanks!
+1
Linpack stable at 219, but graphics become lagging in bios & windows at 220+.
Also, for 220+, gpu<->host bandwidth test fails, and 2D graphics corruption is observed.
Really weird problem, which I never had on UT/UD7.
For bclk 220-222, CPU seems bench stable. 222+ blck not tested yet.
Tried:
vcore/vtt +0.1v,
ioh/ich pcie/ich/ioh pcie +5 notch,
cpu/ioh clock skew 0-400ps,
pcie 100-104,
And none of these helped.
What's the best bios for the 980x right now? I saw the 704 beta, any good for the 980x?
gonna run a memtest on memory see if any errors will leave it running for about 6 hours at least then we can rule that out.
yeh may be a good idea to test individually and take it from there
btw have you tried just raising the cpu multi from 133 bclk?
The 800D has limited air flow unless you've added extra fans, I think it would be a good idea to run at stock to make sure the board is good, then try a mild o/c just to see if you have any obvoius nb temp issues.
the stock tim on the heat pipe assembly is really strange stuff and so many ppl have temp issues, I would change it for better quality compound.
In my case I just went ahaead and fitted the EKFB RE3 right of the bat.
good luck m8
Rick
thinking of getting this board but need to ask a few questions before i dip in
http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/artic...123202322l.JPG
is this all the mem options it has?
if more can somebody post a screenshot all of it
and the rtl is it still +,,-??
or u can set it now??
No. It has more (3rd group).
Yes. I'll post when I get home from work if you like, but you can see the template here and check out everything.
No. You can set numbers you want.
hmm theres something wrong with ure template
read to read same rank and write to write same rank
values are either 4 or 6.
ure write to write same rank.. u wrote 18
just doubled check again with intel x58 spec sheet
its either 4 or 6
btw is there a option for hpet to disable it or to set it to 32/64bit mode??
Is there someone who knows what does the BIOS menu "DRIVER EXPERT GROUP"?
Are you referring to "Drive Xpert Configuration" Under the Tools menu? If so, this PDF may supply the info you're looking for.
update memory passed on memtest for 7 hrs so happy there is no faults there so its time to start tweaking again.
I gave you direct link to template that is partially changed to resemble defaults.
Here are the links to my old 4410/1680 settings. There is mistake in it obviously as you noticed, but I can't remember if it was a BIOS bug, or my writing mistake. Wait, I have pictures... My mistake, sorry, corrected. :D
Here are my old 4200/2000 settings, current 4200/2000 settings, and my new 4410/1680 settings under testing.
Any advice is appreciated.
Now buy the board and join the club. :)
No. Maybe they will add if we ask here: ASUS Intel Beta BIOS Releases and Official Support
u will need it for 2150 above hpet options
hmm interesting overvolts and loose timings.
will be getting this board and waterblock for my lian bench table i just ordered..
find it interesting.
afaik that thread starter is not the chief fae.
eh can contact that guy direct in china . think they have moved there.
tref ??
Just confirmed these cpu's will run 06 at low voltage.. Standard.. not LN2.. 5.0ghz! Low voltage on water cooling.. 1.49v
When u run prime95 at what CPU temp should u stop it I have nearly hi 80 degrees. Can't beleave at 1.37 vcore I'm getting such high temps and I'm watercooled. What are your temps under 100% load in prime anyone else seeing these babies running that hot.I mean watercooled could it be my watercooling setup has degraded had it 2 years. Swift CPU block Laing pump and 360 rad .
For some reason, I can't seem to get over 225 BCLK.
Can anyone help? My dice pot arrived today and I'll be benching it tomorrow.

Hey Splave.. I've been meaning to ask.. How is your chip in vantage and 06 man.. I noticed that some of the chips I have clock high but dont run benchies at high frequencies.. Others clock low but run benchmarks higher.. Its a weird thing really.. Just did a quick test on one... 5824mhz quick run on vantage.. Just wanted to know your experience on the 980x. Thanks man!! :) cheers!! -Beaux
Missing ram, just to update the board, I found the issue behind the missing 4gigs of ram. The CPU seat had 2 bent pins

I am surprised the machine would even post. So the racking of my brain over the past 3 weeks was this. I manage to slightly bend them back into place (not an easy feat if you are hung-over). But as you can see, it's working perfectly.

Also I would like to thank Dansobolanu from another board as he was going through the same issue and pointed me in the right direction. Cheers for now and the next round of beers are on me!
Windows 7 log in is fast again with my Vertex 2 SSD
With Gigabyte EX-58-Extreme it was all good but after getting the R3E it took about 30 second on "Welcome" screen !
I did a full erase of the SSD and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64Bit and everything seems perfect again (except for that damn must-be-3N-for-OCZ-Blade-DDR3 2000 crap and S.M.A.R.T : BAD for my SSD :D)
I will recieve Noctua NH-D14 tomorrow and read it was not compatible with OCZ Blade , is that true? what should I do now ?
Here's a question that hopefully somebody can answer for me.
The board has a standard 24-pin power plug, 2 8-pin +12v mb plugs, and 2 molex power plugs (ez-plugs).
My power supply, an Ultra X3 1000w, that I was hoping to reuse in this new machine only has 1 8-pin +12v mb plug (and 1 4-pin +12v mb plug).
I just plugged in the single 8-pin +12v and one of the molex plugs (ez-plug) and powered up to make sure I didn't have a DoA board before
starting in on the build....and everything booted up just fine.
However, am I going to run into problems once I start actually stressing the board with use? Do I have to get a different power supply?
[on a side-note: those 8-pin +12v plugs came capped off with a 1/2 size (ie covers 4 of the pins) cover caps. Could/Should I maybe use
the 4-pin +12v plug that the power supply also has on one of these, with the cap covering the other 4 pins?]
Thanks.
