The gain from going from 10.3 to 10.4 preview driver was massive in this bench!
There's no temps in the screenshots as all would be idle temps after i ran the benches.
For getting the best result i prefer not to have any temp monitoring programs running in the background but if you specifically want to know temps i will rerun them all with a monitoring tool running Simon.
Hey man :) not bad, not bad. Other than 3dm06 giving me gray hair, things are good..
Hehe, glad you saw something useful :P Just recently got the loop up and running again, switched some parts and slapped a block on the gpu while at it. Loving the silence
Wez,
Yeah, I might build a base to my Skeleton case and mount my current RAD and another in it. Thanks for the picture;)
hey everyone, I also saw a boost in Unigine Bench using 10.4 Preview Driver. This is only 4.1ghz CPU which shows on the min FPS, but the score is higher then my 4.3ghz run earlier.
Edit: I am slow.. I posted the wrong image, well here is the compare then.. lol.

Where has this thread gone? :P
Here lies the last of this thread and this last chapter was our victory lap.
The question is not where it has gone. The question is, were will it go?
You have proven yourselves. The SIX know their MASTERS and know how to find them.
Prepare Thyselves.

hey just for the hell of it I ran at the settings you listed
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...1/best1280.png
not bad:D
sorry it took so long to get the MSI up and running. i have a few more test to post, well tomorrow. Can i still share them?
WOW Titan!, that 5970 really speading it's wings!
I know those settings are really wimpy, but it runs fast even on my 4870 and we were looking for a standard.... ;)
I didn't get my Crosshair IV today. :(
I knew they wouldn't deliver on Saturday but I was really hoping it would be at the local FedEx right up the road and I could go pick it up...
Oh Well, I'll have it on Monday!
Grinder & Charged, glad you guys got your rigs up and running!!
Charged very smooth fix on that MSI man!
I'm not sure my GBT 890GX died the same death, but I think I'll look at it and see if that may be a option for me too. I doubt it, pretty sure the PWM section went out but it's worth a shot! It'd make a really nice board for my HTPC! :D
yea its deadly fast:p:
I checked ZZF and the mobo is gone its not listed anymore? I guess it sold out?
Hope you get it monday itd be nice to see how it runs with your current cpu plus you can practice on it so when you get an x6 youll know how to deal with it already.
Man... You guys with your wicked video cards... :p:
I tore my HTPC box apart tonight and took the 4850 out of it (no big deal, I never game on it anyway, and it still plays Blu-Rays just fine on the IGP).
Xfired it with my 4870 on the main rig, and still can't even get close to you folks with the 58xx cards...
No real tweaks yet, but heres a SS of my 4870/4850 Xfire:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...aven_Xfire.png
I'm not going to run with the big dogs on this bench, but it's still a decent improvement... ;)
Thanks Simon. :)
I could always put a probe in my reservoir and have either speedfan or hw monitor running to show the delta between water and cores. That will be of most interest i think.
Oh and eh, just prepared myself, i will be gone for a midweek starting tomorrow but it seems i will be back exactly on time.
Curious to see where this thread will go as you said.
OK, let's try to make things more interesting.
Heaven benchmark at 4.1GHz, barely any increase in score over 4.0GHz btw, this time including hw monitor in the screenshot:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...heaventemp.png
Water and ambient temps before the start of the bench:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/Untitled.png
Powerdraw at idle before the start of the bench:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../idlepower.png
Water and ambient temps at the end of the bench:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...shots/load.png
Powerdraw during the bench at the settings in the screenshot above:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../loadpower.png
Hope this helps. ;)
wow zeus! very good and informative test! i like the way you show the difference in water temps on idle and bench load as well as the powerdraw. your system is really sucking a lot of power, more than a half a killowatt :D i might consider implementing something like this on my system  thanks for sharing
Thanks Ridney. More than half a kilowatt might look like a lot but i was running my cpu overclocked to 4.1GHz and both my 5870's to 1050 core.
I have seen as high as 740watt, running furmark and Prime95 together. :D
Hey Dave, I was thinking of the same thing, buying a used 4850/4870 on kijiji. But I think instead I may voltmod my 4850, and in the meantime order a new cpu block and a power supply to prepare for potential future crossfire setups. Maybe a nicer vid card if I can talk the wife into that as well :)
What tool are you guys using to oc a 4850 past 700? I tried ATItool but there's an issue with the unsigned driver on windows 7. I found a workaround that forces driver signatures (DSEO) but I don't like that it requires user account control to be disabled...
Oldtimer,
since you also use the MSI 890 board. Did you find any tools that will run in windows that will OC the CPU etc. AOD and PhenomMSRTweaker will not work. They show they are, but nothing but voltage really works. I can tell by temps.
No I didn't, all the overclocking was done in the bios. I didn't look very hard to find any tools though.
I ran this benchmark completely stock (cpu 3.4ghz and NB 2ghz) heres the score compared to my overclocked (cpu 4ghz NB 2.8ghz) score above.
Card was the same clocks on both runs (925/1200)
Basically 600mhz on the cpu equals a 10 fps increase in minimum fps.......not bad if you were running 20fps this would bring you into the 30fps mark:yepp:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...1/stockcpu.png
Did you even have AOD installed? I wonder if all are like this, here is a SS of AOD. Notice CPU-Z is correct, but AOD has some strangeness going on :p:
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/AOD-weird.jpg
For the IGP is does show the correct settings in AOD but it reads quite a few Mhz too high for the core on the right...thats normal.
As for the CPU Multipliers/FSB those are for you to set, not actuall readings so thats why if you look at the top it shows correct numbers. Mine does that too.
Don't mean to double post, just wanted to share some test I did. Nothing as exciting as Oldtimer was doing, but here it is. I ran test in 3d06 to see the differences with memory allocation on the IGP. If you notice, there can be a 300 point gain from adding side port. Now I may need to run a no sideport with 128MB shared to see the speed difference in shared and sideport.
Ok, I added a no sideport but with 128MB shared. It is below. I am now intrigued to run this with 1333 MEM just to see... probably would make a huge difference, but look at how much faster the 128MB shared is to the sideport only 128MB.
First up is sideport only (128MB of course)
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/sideport-only.jpg
(Added) no sideport only 128MB shared.
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/no-sideport+128.jpg
Next was sideport plus 128MB shared.
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/sideport+128.jpg
Next, sideport plus 256MB shared.
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/sideport+256.jpg
Sideport plus 512MB, is identical as +256MB
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/sideport+512.jpg
And now No sideport but with 512MB shared
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/no-sideport+512.jpg
Sorry to be hogging the past few post, I just finally been able to test this board lol.
I did a few test and found that I gained on average 100 points from 2000 HT to 2600 HT. Here are to SS.

If I can get a lil more core and some more CPU I could break 3000. This is all for now.

i remember that my 955 C2 do this in CPUscore;
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/1...ptscputest.png
but in XP :D
I try AOD on every new AMD chipset MB I buy (or in this case was given). I really do like AOD and have used it many times in the past. When it works it’s a great tool and you can’t beat the price.:)
I installed the AOD version that was on the driver cd that came with the MSI 890GX MB version 3.1. I think? The setting reported by AOD were different when compared to the bios settings. Anytime I tried to change a clock setting using AOD then click apply the system would lock or sometimes lock then reboot. AOD always reported 200 as the HT reference clock although in the bios the HT was much higher.
I will admit that I didn’t try an older version of AOD though. One of the older versions of AOD may work for all I know but I doubt it as the MB is using the new chipset. I suppose AMD is working on the AOD problems and will release a patch or updated version to fix this handy little tool before too long?;)
OT while I lie in wait.
Anyone know where I can find a bios for a diamond 4850, with higher CCC limits that work under window 7 64 bit? Or is it best to edit my own? I've found some in old threads, but the linked drivers are long gone. I have found the voltmod stuff.
Just trying to remove the 700 cap without disabling uac for att, or having checksum problems (haven't edited my own bios before, and I'd like to save time).
I can't afford to buy another graphics card just yet, so I may have to follow BeepBeep2's example and make my 4850 toasty. Hopefully not TOO toasty.
Sounds like you are having fun charged. Maybe it'll survive to see HTPC duty after all :)
Thanks Grinder, ;)
I might have a bios for you, Is it a refernce design or what? And what CCC version you running?
I`m pretty sure it's reference. Red PCB. 512 meg gddr3.
CCC came with 10.3 download a couple days ago off the ATI site, when I finally installed windows 7 64 hp. Are you running 10.3, or the leaked 10.4?
Haven`t flashed a bios since my x800 GTO2 :p: May it rest in peace.
It`s tempting to buy a used 48XX and crossfire it, but I`ll save my bucks for a dx11 card.
EDIT: On second thought, I think I'll give RBE a whirl. Why am I here, if not to push myself and my hardware, and learn? :yepp:
UPDATE: Using RBE's suggested change including valid overdrive sig to update limits to 800/1300 seemed successful, e.g. the limits were changed. However, it really hampered my overclocking ability. I had to back off from where I was (700/1100) in order to complete any benches without crashing. Reflashing to the original lets me hit 700/1100 again. Just changing the limits without the hash left me with a card that the drivers wouldn't recognize.
UPDATE 2: Tried two versions of amd gpu clock tool with the same type of results. Major artifacts/crash trying to achieve the same speed I was getting with ccc overdrive. Not much point in the pencil mod...
Hey, get the new AOD from game.amd.com. It works on the IGP for OCing the sideport. I finally broke 3000 today ;)
BTW, did you see my IGP test here? I did some test to show the diference between sideport and shared ram, etc.

http://3800z24.info/Phenom/HD4290/3d...0-1600-IGP.jpg
Oh yeah, i forgot you said that already. Well, I think you could have had a nice score with using AOD.I have 2 890 boards now. Might see if the other is any better.
Its all about milking efficiency:

I can not get GPU-Z to run right on my board. It is real slow to respond and does not always read right settings. very strange. how is it on yours?
Same with mine. Really slow and it skews CPU-Z CPU/HT/CPUNB readings.
I beat 3300 and I'm off to bed here pretty soon...thats the highest HT Link I've ever run or booted at: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=13815830

Nice run Beep. I will run some tomorrow. Been working on a website for work and doing WCG.
I have been busy latly to get my bike up and runing.. Bigbore kit for my rotax engine 998cc to 1060cc. So it have been less playing with the computer.

But here come one indoor 3dmark2006 run with about max the cpu, imc , and the new sticks can do with indoor temp..all timings are not tweaked yet(only fast 7-7-7 run)

Best out of two runs...
I don't rememember what clocks I was at but I had pushed volts to 1.52 and I believe I was around 1060/900 for the vantage run.
The board is getting ready to be RMA'ed soon. It won't boot into any of my four hard drives.
But I'll happily remove it if you believe I should.
Well, both 3DMark06 and Vantage were artifacting pretty bad...sideport was at it's wall I think...1.67v :yepp:
I did have a better 06 run but I havent posted it yet. Your 3400+ on air is nothing less than amazing.
EDIT:
You got any tips for '01? I keep getting ~22-23k in 01....I'd change the LOD but ATI Tray Tools made my system BSOD and ATITool didn't work correctly.
Funny how we like modding and overclocking our vehicles too! I'd love to do Cobb stage 2 for my Saabaru...
BTW, just ordered some infrastructure for the pc. Apogee XT, triple rad, and Seasonic M12D 850w, to lay the foundation for future upgrades.
Hey all was wondering what ever happened with this thread? just giving a bump....
Is it time for me to throw in another random IGP result?
I believe it is time to do this. One last time.

this week end i should be able to drop in a couple of results on air to see how i can rivalise against h20 rigs
let's do this :yepp:
I hope there will be a sandbox for Thubanites to play in. I sold my c3 to upgrade.
If not, good luck everyone, and have fun!
Finally!!!! :p:
I am in... what's we's uh doin...
Me too Grinder....
I mean, C'mon, C3 is soooo old school. :ROTF:
Anyway, I really wanted a new 890FX board and I was tired of buying middle of the road stuff so I splurged and bought a CH4F. Unfortunately, that only left me enough money to get a 1055T....
The locked multi's have been a little challenging to say the least, but also fun in a sadistic kind of way.
Trying to balance things gets a little tricky. My chip has pretty strong cores and a decent IMC, but the board seems to freak out at anything over 305 HTRef.
My memory isn't top dollar either, but it will do pretty decent clocks if I loosen timings a bit, that only adds to the challenge...
Long Story Short... I decided to play with TurboCore to see where I could get the memory using SuperPi as a gauge.
I'm easily amused, but the results turned out pretty good considering it's just on water. :D
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...BestSpi32m.png
Yes... Thats 4.433 under turbo at decent V's!
These same clocks got me 15.507 secs on a 1m run. I'm not sure if it's 24/7 stable yet, but it seems close!
Not too shabby for AMD... :p:
I have been running a few HTT tests today and thought I would give this thread a bump with some updated results (different hardware).
Directly below is about the best X10 CPU multi result I could get using the CHIII. This post was on 12-16-2009, 10:25 PM
The new 06 result is posted below the quote.:yepp:
Here are some of todays results.
I enabled LLC, disabled turbo-core and left most every other voltage setting on auto except ram which was set to 1.65v.
The Thuban/CHIVF combination shows an improvement in the X10 CPU multi test. The system will boot into Windows @366 HTT set in the bios. I use TurboV to up the HTT in windows. I ran wPrime 32 @402HTT but I didn't have time to test 3DMark06 @402HTT. I upped the HTT to 404 but the system crashed then rebooted.
I didn't test for high bench scores just the HTT on this latest hardware to compare to the older tested hardware. I just wanted to know the difference for myself. :)
I ran a lot of tests but I think I'll start a new thread for those.:D
Thuban/CHIVF
Corsair GT 2000 CL8

wPrime @402 HTT
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...faultvolts.png
wPrime @400 HTT Ram@CL6 NB@3200MHz (wPrime didn't appear to like the higher NB)
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...faultvolts.png
wow 400htt, nice work. i wonder what tests we'll have to do. im thinking if we have to do 30min prime again, might be able to get ~4350mhz w/ 70f ambients :yepp: got 4320mhz 1 hr blend stable @ 1.57v w/ little higher than 70f room, and this water can hold 1.6v :D i stopped testing htt @ 345 on my setup but it was blend stable, figured it was plenty htt for most guys w/ 1055 lol 4800mhz+ ;)
I played with the HTT a little more today. I tried a bunch of different bios settings combinations but the highest HTT I could get with the old Thuban was 406 (10x406=4060MHz). I ran wPrime 32 and 3Dmark06, the 06 is posted below (1x5970 GFX card).
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...32481x5970.png
I swapped the old Thuban (week 08) for the newer one (week 21) to see if it would handle a higher HTT. I did handle more HTT, one more to be exact, for a total o 407HTT but it needed more vcore to get that one HTT. I ran wPrime 32 at the 407 which is posted below. I don’t know if getting the CPU colder would help get more HTT or not so I may try the week 21 chip under dice tomorrow?
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...rime3256NB.png
Crazy ass htt there old timer
So was this a competition or just for fun thread? I never really got what was going on here ....
Kinda both, for me anyway.:yepp:
In chapter 2 one of the challenges was to post your best 3dmark06 bench score using the X10 or X17 multiplier. I posted my new best X10 multi benching 3d06 above using the new hardware. I was just trying to show the improvement in the HTT clocks using the newer hardware.:)
Wow those are awesome HT clocks OT!
For whatever reason I can hardly get over 300 with any kind of stability...
Maybe I should flash back to 0801 (never tested it much). :p:
OLDTIMER: HT link is impressive! Can u test winrar bench with this setings?
Dave the one thing that seemed to help with the higher HTT was to keep the HTL (HT link) and NB speed matched. Maybe I just got lucky hitting the settings the chips wanted but when I tried to boot with high HTT when the HTL was running at a lower speed than the NB it wouldn't boot. When I matched the speed it booted then when in windows turboV could take the HTT on up from there. This method worked on two different chips (thubans). I don't know if bios 801 is better than 905 for high HTT or not as I didn't try high HTT on 905?
The CHIVF is off the bench now so I can't run that bench test right now but I have a CB-10 and CB-11.5 + other bench tests @High HTT I can post up if you want?
:):rofl::rofl::rofl::ROTF::rofl::ROTF::yepp:
I may need to run sets of three tests at the same settings then average those three results to get a better idea why the score is so different when comparing NB/memory clocks? In my SS’s CB-10 score higher at a lower NB/relaxed memory timings but CB-11.5 scores higher with the higher NB/tighter memory timings?
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...faultvolts.png
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...faultvolts.png
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...faultvolts.png
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...faultvolts.png
nice, nice, NB clock too impressive!
From looking at your SS's OT, I think you meant keeping the HTLink and IMC matched... :p:
I've been an advocate of that since the 9500's, at least to me, it always seemed to help on the older chips.
I actually stuck with that pattern when I first got my 1055, but the Thubans IMC was so much stronger, that I thought maybe the HTLink was getting too high so I dropped it to 9x and left the IMC @ 10x...
Either way, it didn't help, and for some reason I'm stuck with a max HTRef ~300.... :(
I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I'm wondering if maybe AMD didn't intentionally cripple HTRef clocks on the 1055's just so they couldn't smoke the 1090T's..... :D
BTW: Kennedy WAS shot from the Grassy Knoll....
Yeah, I realized later what I did (typed that I matched the HTT rather than the CPU/NB).:yepp: I didn't make it back to fix it though. I didn't figure many people were reading what I was posting up anyway.
If I had a 1055 I'd test your theory about the HTRef clocks?
Behind the fence at the grassy knoll maybe?
Hey gang, I think I hear crickets here :)
I finally finished my refresh build:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=257170
Hopefully I'll soon find time to push my 1055t and 5850 in their new home. Maybe this thread will pick up again in the fall.
sweet rig grinder :)
i thought about this thread a few times but never bumped it cause its been pretty hot here lately = not best possible OC :p:
Thanks cd. I expect you are right, fall and winter are definitely more oc friendly for those of us that only have access to ambient!
I can see wanting to set up my external rad with longer tubing in order to hang it out the window this winter. Easier than lifting the whole system up there like I did last year
You know I will be putting my Garage Loop back in play this winter for sure :D
i sort of expected the masters of OC to be bang on the C3 revision, you know K|ngp|N, macci, SF3D and Massman, but i cant seem to find anything,
roll on the condensation charged, lol
It started to be an issue last year, but my insulation did the trick. :p:
