    Sigh.

Nickel plated blocks are the devil. Forget them. Just stick with copper blocks and you won't have such issues. The bling isn't worth it.

This was an old block from the first series (a year and a half ago), which was milled once again after nickel plating (some clearance issues) and was nickel plated twice. This block was replaced. Date of purchase or recording of the video doesn't mean a thing.

Just get the copper versions like I do. Copper version is cheaper and has better heat transfer capability versus copper with Nickle plating. You can get around .00001 deg cooler C with full copper. lol

Another 6 month old picture, October 2011 is the thread date.

Seems to me this thread is just trying to dig up old stuff to slam EK all over again.

I've a no EN (there was no such thing ) Supreme HF from the 1st easymount series, I've opened him a sh*t load of time and it still looks the same. But I'm with Sparky, just buy normal copper blocks. I went for the EN because it was either nickel all around or copper all around and the copper didn't look that nice on the build

I don't know why every now and then some ppl open threads like this

I've had and currently have both EN and non-EN nickel plated block for over a year, and no problem at all.

supreme HF non-EN --> brand new
EK GTX570FC EN --> brand new

I've also had an EK R3E FC --> brand new

no nickel flaking on both, no strange deposit, nothing in my reservoir. Nothing.

I don't know, it seems to me that most of the time threads like this are opened just to put in a bad light a company name.

FACTS: there was a problem with nickel plating ---> EK solved it with a more safe and advanced nickel plating method (EN). end of the story.

If you ask me, EK did a great job calling back all those faulty waterblocks for free and replacing them with brand EN or Copper waterblocks. Frankly I don't know how many companies would do the same

The only thing I could point to EK on that matter was the time they took to actually start accepting the blocks back. But they did well in the end

if only copper stayed looking the same and didnt turn all black and crappy I would agree with you.

Agreed with NKrader, copper blocks can get pretty nasty also.

I think it was Martin that did a distilled water shoot out... yup here it is
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...Water-Shootout!

So given the best setup and everything you do to protect yourself things ga go bad in your water

Who knows maybe some old stock is still out there that some one could get ahold of that had these problems, I don't know. The two examples shown are old and do not show anything new.

wait.. I am not a water cooling expert like a lot of you guys so what do I know

But by the time it starts looking black and crappy it's probably time to tear down the loop for cleaning. A little vinegar + salt mixture soak the block for 10 mins it will be shiny as new again.
BTW I have had copper blocks stay nice a shiny for years

Did I show you my pics of my blocks that were in a loop for over a year? With silver in the loop? They looked about flawless. AND they were all used before I got them too.

If your blocks turn black, you're doing it wrong

Yeah copper can tarnish over time, but I'd prefer a bit of tarnish ugly over risking the chance failed plating ugly

I'm also a cheapskate so bare copper fits my budget better
