NVIDIA to ''simplify'' its Gaming Product Range

NVIDIA to ''simplify'' its Gaming Product Range

In an interview with GamesIndustry, NVIDIA said that it is looking to simplify its gaming product range in order to appeal to a wider audience. Speaking to GamesIndustry, Roy Taylor, VP of Content Business Development, admitted that NVIDIA's current range of products is overcomplicated and too confusing for users that may not follow the graphics market like we comptuer related people do. "It is a challenge that we're looking at right now. There is a need to simplify it for consumers, there's no question," Taylor explained. "We think that the people who understand and know GeForce today, they're okay with it - they understand it. But if we're going to widen our appeal, there's no doubt that we have to solve that problem," he added. Specific plans of how NVIDIA is intending to remodel its product line were not disclosed during the small talk.

I hope "simplfying" doesn't mean having the same name for different products like they did with the 8800.

I read that earlier today. Think it's a good thing. They messed up so much by picking up old cards, modifying them just a bit, sometimes renaming them, sometimes not. Also that G92 being nothing more than a revamped G80.

just price them logically, then people will know which one is how good no matter how they name them

    back to serious...

good to see that nvidia will do something to clear up the mess.

Well, I dunno why people are surprised by this. Their current offering is the 9000 series. The GeForce 10500 sounds kinda weak now doesn't it? It was obvious they would think up a new naming scheme.

They should EOL all 8xxx series and make equivalents for 9xxx series. I think it could solve the problem...

Return of the "Ti" (Titanium) naming scheme perhaps? Geforce 4 Ti 4200, Ti 4400 and Ti 4600, nothing confusing, higher number the faster. What numbers to choose for GT200 tho I don't know. ^^
    Intel? Core i5-4670K @ 4.3 GHz | ASRock Extreme6 Z87 | G.Skill Sniper 2x8GB @ DDR4-1866 CL9 | Gigabyte GTX 970 OC Windforce 3x | Super Flower Titanium 1000W | ViewSonic VX2268wm 120Hz LCD | Phanteks PH-TC14PE | Logitech MX-518 | Win 7 x64 Professional | Samsung 850 EVO & 840 Pro SSDs

Im thinking that this means there is another 8XXX card that will be renamed to the 9XXX. Let me guess the 8400GS will be the 9300GSO.

This likely means more renamed 8-series on the horizon.

haha good i cant buy a card without reading a few reviews site to figure out what the hell nvidia or ati is "targeting" it at.

How they figure there is 75 different graphics cards markets is beyond me... It confuses the hell out of me, the different names, products etc... is really hard to keep up with, especially over multiple generations.. I just try to ignore what a card is called and rember what core it uses along with ram type...

    how to simplify?

i know, simply rebadge and sell everything as the gforce 10 GA series (generation antique)
    system:

    Phenom II 920 3.5Ghz @ 1.4v, benchstable @ over 3,6Ghz (didnt test higher)
    xigmatek achilles
    sapphire hd4870 1gb @ 820 1020
    Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H
    8gb a-data 4-4-4-12 800
    x-fi xtrememusic
    rip 2x 160gb maxtor(now that adds up to 4...)
    320gb/250gb/500gb samsung

Well if they'd just called the G92 cards 9800 in the first place they wouldn't have been in the mess they are in now. I reckon some numpty in sales accidentally forgot and they went with it to save face.

To the normal person they would think the 640 is better, well its better then the 320mb one but the 512mb one is faster more SP'S and higher glocks. Thats the problem they are talkin about.

Basicly its like having 2 ti4600's one with 512mb the other with 512mb one is older one is newer but which one could it be ? To someone mow Knoledgable they would just check the box in the back for the info and compare the 2 but most people dont know.
still, i don't get why nvidia didn't just use xx50 names, like "8850GT" or smth. i mean, this would have been way more logic than the crap they actually did lol. or just using an addition to the name, e.g. "8800GT version2" or some trivial things like that... actually, every idea i come up within seconds is way better than what nvidia came up with

I understand it, but I'm not OK with it, so they're WRONG!

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
