New Madness!

The new Madness plan is taking shape!

1. Case will be 33 H x 24 L x 9 W and support two PSU's, if needed
2. MB tray will be HPTX, just in "case" I decide to go with a SR-2, @ lowfat:p:
3. One loop
3. Three Rads, 120.4, 120.3 and 120.2:eek:
4. Four D-5's in Dual Top Configuration
5. One Res, EK 400 Advanced
6. BP Fittings as usual, True Silver on the Pumps, Black and Red for the blocks
7. Tubing, White or Clear PLT
8. Fan Control, Aquaero 5 XT

The case may be here this week. Once it arrives, I will have to assemble it, do a bit of cutting and then it it will be off to the powder coater.

I still have to order the SLI fittings, but I will not know what to order until the case and the custom MB tray arrives. If my calculations are correct, I will be adding a third 580 and an EK FC-Bridge. I have numerous options and I am hoping to get this build completed before Ivy bridge debuts!

I'd really like to hear how the FC-8 works for you. When I get some new radiators and extra fans in the next few months, some decent control is much appreciated, seeing as I'm using a 20W controller atm :(.

The two FC's powered the A/C just fine. I will let you know how they work with the PC :D

Never on the floor with my parts! The case should be here next week and assembly will begin. Unfortunately, I have to assemble everything, cut and drill, disassemble and have it powder coated. It will be finished.

Depends on if you need the computing power or not, I guess. I'd stick with R3E if I were you.

I don't need the SR, but it is tempting and Xtreme! Then again, the 990 is Xtreme too. The good news is that my MB tray will accept any MB so I will always have the option available.

Update:
The third 580 has been ordered along with the new EK block.

(Comparing with my GT1850s)

Since the older versions are really hard to get, do you recommend buying higher speeds and running them on lower?

They will be at low speeds most of the time until I OC everything for extreme gaming. Between the two Lamptron's and the Aquaero, I will have a great deal of control.

To your question; I prefer the heavy duty fans. These do not whine when you ramp them down. Just my opinion and preference.


UPDATE: The case will be here Friday, the third 580 and the EK block arrive Thursday!:D I will be out of town tomorrow and Thursday, but Friday should be fun. Saturday will be case construction day along with initial fitting of the MB and basic placement of the rads, pumps and other miscellaneous parts.

I will post some pics once everything arrives and assembly begins.

This is a big case, especially with the pedestal. It gives you a great deal of room to hide rads, pumps and a couple of cats!

I will be installing my rads in the bottom and in the front of the case. The design of the case is pretty good overall, but the price should be a little lower. However, the HTPC MB tray is well designed and it is backwards compatible. :up:

I would prefer a few more options regarding cut-outs, but that would add more $$$.

I will have to do some drilling, cutting and cursing, but the end result should be fine.

I will be using an Aquaero 5 XT, I used the 4 to check the fit with the two Lamptron's.
As you can see in the last pictures, I will be making some type of custom midplate, either acrylic or aluminum...thoughts?
The case will be powder coated in white along with the Lamptron faceplate's. and the Aqua 5 faceplate.
I am leaning towards dual loops with each loop powered by dual D5's with dual EK tops. I originally wanted a single loop, but the tube routing along with the empty space makes a dual loop more attractive.
I also changed my fans to GT 1850's which should look good with the white case, I think.:shrug:
As always, any suggestions or criticisms are most welcome, otherwise known as, I need some input!

Their is an option to have the motherboard tray ship w/ a security flange to secure it in place. Although it doesn't look like it would work w/ your case unless you were to rivet it to the top case.

nice.... im in love with my pinnacle, just wish it had some extra space behind the mobo tray, and the front bay drive were all usable (fitting everything its suppose to internally is hard stuff!

I have the flange, but as you pointed out, I would have to secure it to the top of the case. That would look bad and I will be cutting a window in the top.

Well I ordered white, red and black acrylic for the midplate and a few other mods I am considering.
The Madness continues............

I had a little time today to play around with the MM case and the potential set-up.....
I am definitely running a dual loop and considering a triple loop. My thinking is as follows;

1. Triple Loop; Dual D-5's cooling the three 580's with the 120.4 Rad, the 120.3 with dual D-5's cooling the CPU and the Ram block and the 120.1 cooling the MB block with one D-5. All of the pumps will have EK tops.

2. Dual Loop; Dual D-5's cooling the MB and CPU with the 120.4 and the 580's cooled with the 120.3.

I am still undecided regarding the case color. My wife wants red, I prefer white. Too many decisions to make! I played around with the midplate using red, white and black plexi. Please LMK what you think.

I was under the impression that this was a custom case you got done, not a MM case. If it is a MM case, then :down:

Like I said, putting lipstick on a pig! However, I have solved the MB tray problem, three braces, and they are needed with the three 580's with h20 blocks. The case idea is overall sound, but they need to use thicker aluminum and offer a few more options internally. A big part of this screw up is my fault. I needed a case quickly and I could not wait for a custom case, lesson learned.
Stay tuned and see if I can turn chicken sh*t into chicken salad.:D

I have always liked the way Feser packages their rads.....completely sealed!

I also received a large box containing red and black plexi. Now that I have perfected my method for cutting it, I may some fun tomorrow.
I am still debating my side window cut-out and my top cut-out. I was thinking of a porthole effect on the side, but it may be tricky, and I am an old dog and this would be a new trick!
I have the MM side panel with the cut-out but the opening is a little too big. Fortunately, I ordered an additional solid panel.
In progress updates tomorrow. No excuses now and I want to get the case to the powder coater next week.

I've never been of fan of compression fittings (DD Fatboys or Perfect Seals, Tygon, and Herbie Clips *never* fail to deliver).

Because most of your fittings are barbs (as they should be), are you going to go naked, use tactfully-small zip ties, or Herbie Clips? I'd *never* suggest worm drives, for someone with your tastes! :nono:

I have no doubt that 7/16" over a good 1/2" barb can hold without clamps for most loops. The problem is that I'm now sold on always using a single loop, so pressure is now a bigger concern than ever.

I have a black and white one too. Once the case is powder coated, it should be easy to determine which color to use.

I use 3/8" tubing over 1/2" barbs and it works great. My reason for two loops is due to the number of blocks being used and the length of tubing for one loop. Not to mention the routing nightmare with one loop, plus I need to fill in the case.

If I paint the fittings correctly, I might just get a floating effect. Since I did not have a good solution for mounting with the clamps, this appears to be my best bet. Actually, I think it will add more depth and interest to the overall build.

Are the res mounting pics just for mounting purposes, or is fluid going to be running out through the bottom of the res?

The single is in there just to support the midplate.

That is the way I propose to mount it to the midplate. The D-5 will directly pump into the res from the top of the EK top.

It works! I filled it up with H20 and no support problems at all.:D

The nickel looks green due the fact that I took this pic in my backyard and all of the green reflected. Additionally, I did not place the backs because I will be changing all of the screws to black. Yes, another tear down is on the way.

I will also replace the top hex heads on the AQ 580's with black hex heads. I must say that Aqua has found a superior mounting solution with their built in stand-offs and ease of installation overall.
The Twinconnect is outstanding, extremely sturdy and well thought out.

This is the first time I see a loop where the pump goes before the res. So as far as I undrstand you will be pushing water to the res and then It will go out of it to the block that comes next to it, isn't it?
If am I right, how that works?

I do things a bit differently than most people. I usually go straight from the pump to the blocks, to the Res and then to the Rad. I have found that H20 temps equalize so the loop order does not really matter. I do know that the pump or pumps should be at the lowest mounting position available.
