I bet this one will battle HD 6950 so that it's not "a class of its own" anymore like AMD claims :D

Performance wise, HD6950 is in GTX570 class already... but if it's a lot cheaper than price-wise it's another class entirely...

Very high core frecuency. Even 384SP ar 700-725 core it's probably egual to GTX 470. So at 875Mhz i think that this card will be at middle between GTX 470 and GTX 480/570.

GTX 570 = GTX 480
GTX 560 = GTX 470?

GTX 560s around $250 would be a steal.

I just hope they don't pull any type of BS and load it up w/ only 768mb. 1024mb or gtfo!

considering a GTX 460 oced to 800 is faster then a GTX 470 I would think a card at this speed would be very high performing closer to a GTX 480 then anything else... it would definitely leave the 6870 in the Dust.

if you think about it AMD is leaving a huge hole between the 6950 and the 6870 performance wise. i am sure we can expect to see a 6930 or something in a month or two. lets just hope AMD cuts it back by just enough not like the joke that was the 5830

only problem with that is that 470 and 480 exceeded their tdp in almost every game, it's not very hard to be more power efficient
i expect a TDP of 180-200 from 560 which should be a huge leap from 470 and make nv slightly more competitive in terms of power consumption

but 560 sounds pretty promising, should bring down prices and every price point from 150-400€ is going to have some huge competition between amd and nvidia

whats the highest clocked retail 460? wasnt it 880mhz for the evga ftw card?

other than clocks whats really all that unexpected? people are going to hate me for saying this, but isnt it "about time" they released a full core version of their mid range

Sounds ok for users running at stock. More competition helps push down prices.

It might not be so great for us though if that higher clock eats into OC headroom. In that case I'd prefer more shaders instead.

sounds like a tweaked gf104... so basically a 460 with everything enabled and some minor tweaks...

When you forget about the 400 series, among other things, the 500 series looks to be a very attractive line up :up:

Sounds like the 6870/6850 prices are about to plummet.

I'm kinda curious as to how high this thing will OC. The GF104 was a beast of a clocker, with the slight change to the transistors found in the GF11x family these things might just be able to handle 1ghz+ on air. That's all just speculation of course as we won't know til it's out, but coming from my experience with the GTX 460, these cards should be monsters for the midrange segment.

Hope the price is right,.... and whoever bought the GTX 470 series is having serious headache now :shakes:

There is no way this can be true:
1. This clocks will place card in GTX570 territory and it will kill nvidia's own GTX570/GTX580 sales.
2. GTX580's maximum overclock is around 900Mhz. How is it possible for a chip of the same architecture to have 875Mhz base clock? It's possible that shader-to-core clock ratio is reduced but then high clock doesn't tell anything about actual performance without knowing shader domain clock.

No way will GTX 560 be anywhere near GTX 570. Even with full GF104 and 800+Mhz clocks it won't reach that level. Also upping the clocks means this card won't have much of an OC ability left. Most likely this will compete against 6950 at 300$ level.

Everything that competes against 6950 will be near GTX570 actually. Also to compete against 6950 gtx560 needs to have vastly improved MC reaching 4500-5000MHz. Which again places it against GTX570.

Most likely the GPU clocks will be around ~770MHz. With the extra block enabled and the raised clocks it should be around the HD5870 / GTX 470 performance mark.

GTX 460 achieved high clocks because of the smaller die-size and because of the less tranzistor.
Combine this with the tweaked GF110 silicon and you will have even higher clocks.
And by the way GTX 570 have a 219W TDP and it's a huge chip, 529mm2.
Think a 350mm2 chip what TDP will have.
And probably the GTX 560 will have a higher voltage than GTX 460, but still almost same oc. headrom.
Still Nvidia is starting to equal Amd in Gpu frecuencys, GTX 560 might do this(only 6870 at 900Mhz will be higher), and we know, clock/clock Nvidia is a little faster.

GTX460 achieved clocks similar to GTX580 because GF104 already has most of the tweaks included in GF110. So any further increase is possible, but it'll be not as large as before.

I'm pretty sure the GF104 didn't have the actual changes in transistors that the GF110 did. The GF104 just removed a lot of the features geared towards professional use, which cut down the transistor count by a fair margin.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty doubtful of it. The power usage would've been quite a bit lower on the GTX460 had that been the case.

Care to provide a link with such statements?

Anyone know how valid the date is? Was looking at self gifting a 460 for the holidays, and have been putting it off due to bills and such but with this possibly coming late January, I'd be willing to hold off just a bit more and be a little more frugal anyhow for a better product.

Given it's just a rumor from China I wouldn't hold my breath just yet. Of course I don't really see why Nvidia would need to wait so January might be entirely possible.

875 MHs seems really high, 30% compared to TGX 460 :eek:

A full 384 shaders even in the mid 7xx clock range would be a nice very competitive piece of gpu. I would imagine if they do offer 875 as a std clock they will probably also have a number of scaled down core configs to fill the void down to what would be the 550.

well considering the GTX 580 and GTX 570 were "rumors from China" and merely weeks after are on store shelves. It seems like Nvidia has been pulling allot or new GPU's out of no-ware lately. maybe we will get lucky and it will be around shortly, we could use a good GPU to occupy the gap between the GTX 470 and the 6950

That would put it on roughly equal terms as 6950 and ca. 10% slower than a GTX570 - which might hurt it sales. Otoh, they will finally be able to ask a decent price for the GTX560.

Even at 820mhz this thing is going to take heads if it's priced similar to what we saw out of the 460 at launch. I'm expecting ~$250, not $300 like the 6950... To give you an idea, 800mhz on a GTX460 easily traded blows with a GTX 470. Adding those extra shaders should make this come extremely close to the GTX570. Overclocking will DEFINITELY catch the GTX570, and lucky cards should actually be able to PASS that card.

Fwiw, you already know palit will likely make a 2gb version of this, much like they did with the 460. Should help for those of you who demand top-resolution, seeing as how overclocking will probably allow you to hit the performance level where the ram can actually be put to use. Might be worth keeping an eye on, considering these days the price difference is $10 between the 1gb and 2gb(at microcenter, check yourself).

Either way, those eyeing the 6950 might be wise to wait it off for this release, merely to drop the price of the 6950 if nothing else. Even if you're already decided upon the 6950 and nothing can change your mind on it, if this is priced like I think it'll be we should see some big price drops on that card next month.

I think AMD obvious response would be a 1gb 6950. Could definitely be sold around the 250 region.

2) Comparing Nvidia's TDP and AMD's Max Board Power is like comparing apples to oranges. They mean completely different things and can not be compared 1:1. I would say that Nvidia's ~180 W TDP is AMD's ~225 W MBP. The reasoning is that Max Board Power literally means the maximum power draw sustained by the whole product, while TDP means just the thermal load put on the cooling solution to sustain while keeping the GPU/other parts temperature below the maximum junction temperature. I made a quite long post about this some weeks ago and compared 5970 and GTX 480; it was clear that Nvidia's TDP is much closer to the typical power draw than AMD's Max Board Power, which is more or less the "theoretical max" set by the manufacturer and controller by the power management.

Thus said; If GTX 560 can increase the perf/W and put pressure on AMD then I'm more than happy; everybody wins.

The killer feature for me on this card will be full bitstreaming of HD audio streams over HDMI. Because it is based on GF104, it is logical to assume it will include this feature.

I would have bought a GTX570 already, but they have not added this feature into GF110 for whatever reason and that is a huge dissapointment. This upcoming GTX560 will be the first card to offer upper mid-range performance AND include the audio bitstreaming.

I know I am in the minority as one who runs everything thru a A/V reciever, but this is a make or break feature for me. The 6950/6970 are also appealing because they include this, but I will wait to see how the GTX560 stacks up before deciding.

If NVidia hits the expected $249 mark with the GTX560 then even at $269 the 1gb card will still be over-priced if this card performs as it would seem like it should. For $269 you'll probably be able to get a 2gb GTX 560.

Like I said, AMD will probably have to drop their 6950 prices. The 6870 and 6850 will be forced to the $199 and $149 brackets as well I would think, as obviously the remaining GTX 460's will end up dropping in price to make room and clear stock.

Essentially, no matter which brand you plan on buying from, if you're eyeing the mid-range($150-300 bracket) it'll be worth your while to wait for this card's release, even if for some reason you refuse to ever buy a NVidia card. Bit-tech kind of beat around the bush about it in their 6950 review by saying that if you wait a little longer you may be handsomely rewarded.

I don't know about that. AMD 6870 is just a hair below the gtx 470 and the gtx 460 ftw edition(840 mhz) is faster than both cards, where it doesn't run into memory problems in anandtech's 6870 review.

The gtx 560 is 2-3% slower clock speed but picks up 15% more shaders. I think it should be faster than the gtx 470 atleast.

The GTX460 at the clocks we're seeing for the GTX560, without the extra shaders enabled on the gpu, is enough to tie(and in a lot of cases beat) the GTX470. The GTX460 sonic plat from palit does so at 800mhz core. Add those extra shaders and the GTX560 will beat the 470 pretty cleanly. Only when memory becomes an issue will the GTX470 be faster than the 560. I have absolutely NO doubt in my mind on that fact. Of course, we'll see 2gb versions of the card to take care of that issue.

i dont think a 460 or 560 for that matter can cope with 1080+ and aa like a 470 can...

and if you compare an overclocked 460 to it you might as well throw in an overclocked 470 into the mix which should perform close to a 570...
theres no point in buying a card and not maxing it out, this is xs after all...
and yeah a 560 will be fast, but how much will it overclock with a stock clock of over 800mhz already?

They clearly knew the performance of cayman, at least way better than most of the leakers or sources. I remember about two months ago, Nvidia saying that cayman will have trouble against the gtx 570. I don't think anyone believed it at the time but it turned out to be true. If cayman was released two in november with earlier drivers they would have looked a bit worse and lost alot more face.

It strange that the most pessimistic view on cayman's performance was the only one that was correct. It was wierd that all the leaks indicated massive performance increase. I wonder if some of these high performance leaks were propagated by AMD to hold back Gtx 570 and 580 sales.

Check the review I linked, or pick one at random like I did for the sonic platinum or any other similarly clocked 460. Those lil chips fly when clocked like that.

As for how the GTX560 will clock, no one really knows that answer except NVidia; but if they got the GF110 treatment in terms of their new transistor method, then it should clock better than the GF104 I'd think. You can see in the GTX460 overclocking thread in the nvidia forum how far they go; A LOT of people breaking 900mhz on air with no problem.

I don't think it'll make GTX470 owners cry or anything, but considering most of us expected a fully unlocked GF104 to be released as a GTX475 I'd be in shock if this thing doesn't run all over the GTX470(as well as the 6950). We'll know for sure next month. :up:

If you compare the GTX460 SE (288 cores) vs GTX460 (336 cores), the difference is 48 cores and the performance difference is 15% more or less (SE version has low clocks, so, with the same clock as GTX460 1GB could be 13% o 12% slow).

The GTX560 could be 18% or 20% (high clocks) faster than GTX460 1GB so will pass the GTX470 and HD6870, and maybe match the HD6950, with OC will be more powerful, but the HD6950 with OC could match the HD6970 (same clocks).

You people really think Nvidia is so clairvoyant they could predict this scenario back before they taped out gf100? I think not. :)

The GTX 560 is at 6950 level at best, and I doubt the OC ability will be all that good if they clock it at 800+ Mhz. Of course it's a better product for Nvidia than GTX 460 was considering it's still the same size.

I think nvidia expected amd not to expect a card to top 480 so soon. As for how the GTX560 will clock, no one really knows that answer except NVidia; but if they got the GF110 treatment in terms of their new transistor method, then it should clock better than the GF104 I'd think. You can see in the GTX460 overclocking thread in the nvidia forum how far they go; A LOT of people breaking 900mhz on air with no problem.

I don't think it'll make GTX470 owners cry or anything, but considering most of us expected a fully unlocked GF104 to be released as a GTX475 I'd be in shock if this thing doesn't run all over the GTX470(as well as the 6950). We'll know for sure next month. :up:

and the 460 ocing a lot more than other cards is a myth seeded by nvidia, it actually only clocks a few percentage points higher than any other card.

They are releasing it, it's called the 560. The 460 will only be 6 months old at the rumoured 560 launch timeline somewhere in late Jan.

But thats good in a way imo , it means that the VFM gpu's (570,6970,6950,6870 and inc 560) are all pretty damn close to the top end which is kinda nice. And with current SLI and Xfire numbers scaling so nicely 2 midrange gpu's provide really nice performance.

It makes 580 seem overpriced but maybe thats a little over reaction as well I mean it is the fastest thing out there and considering diminishing returns and all if you want that sorta power(epeen? :D) you cough it up I guess.

I like how the situation is both are close to each other on pricing and performance no one is running away just, choose the flavor you want.

Now looking forward to the mad dual gpu wars on the horizon I think its gonna be like 4870x2 vs 295 !!! :up:

while i agree that yields might have been an issue, they definitely could have done a pr stunt with it... i mean look at the HUGE amount of 460s they sold, and how many of those were 256bit 460s and how few were 192bit 460s... that doesnt really look like bad yields, does it? :D

GTX560 is a $200-250 card and not meant to compete against HD6900 series, I’m sure NV will like to put it between HD6800 and HD6900 series (Performance and price).

1.) How reliable the flash is. Most who have flashed here on XS have reported ATi tool gives artifacts(even though games don't, it's a sign), and flopper gets artifacts any time he enters 3d mode with his. It's definitely not sure-fire, but the results do look like a high percentage.

2.) We don't know if it'll only be the first batch, or if all shipments will remain that way. Could be like the GTX 465, where only certain batches unlock, or it could be like the old ATi 9500, where only certain PCB layouts unlock(and right now all seem to be that layout).

Add this to the fact that I HEAVILY doubt we'll see a bios for the 1gb 6950 to unlock(there are no plans for a 1gb 6970 at this time), and you'd realize that unless we see a price drop of the 2gb 6950 then they won't be on competing price levels anyway. I doubt they'd charge more than $249 for the GTX560(possibly even lower), which is lower than the estimated 6950 1gb price level. A non-unlockable 1gb 6950 isn't very likely to beat this thing.

Just google "6870 Atitool" there are other 6xxx series users reporting artifacts with ATItool. I wouldn't take it as a sign of instability. That is a four year old utility. Show me some Evga OC scanner, Gputool, or OCCT and I would take that a bit more seriously.

I have my doubts that people will be unlocking these in the long term but who knows. Like you said I don't see this effecting a GTX470 replacement in the ~$250 pricepoint.

I would love to see 560s getting close to 1ghz on the core.. should bring them real close to a stock 570.

PCB looks very similar to GTX460s but there are few changes.. if it's really a new chip even gtx 570's can reach 950mhz on air, this little bastard should go higher..

The PCB looks surprisingly anemic compared to the GTX460 .. cheap mosfets.

Most GTX 460 overclocked to around 850-900, so if 560 can reach 900-950 it's a decent update considering it should be the same chip, just more shaders enabled. I wonder what tweaks they've done considering it is renamed to GF114. If it's completely new taped-out version I wonder if they'll use the low bins to make a GT 550 and replace the GTX 460?

that would be awesome because with these specs this card will stomp all over a 6870, considering an OCed GTX 460 with clock speeds the same as the 560 will match the 6870, the enhanced shadders on the 560 and the extra units will be a major bonus now how about a little wishful thinking here hoping they price under 250:D

it's commonly assumed that NV has applied many of the same updates to the core that the GF110 saw considering it seems to be a new Core name (GF114 over a GF104) and it would also just plain make sense. even without the changes however it would still stomp a 6870

The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on a new graphics card like the GTX 580/570 is the lack of bitstreamed DTS HD and Dolby True HD Audio formats.

Btw... are there any sound cards available that offer DTS HD Master or Dolby True HD encoding? I love how my X-Fi Titanium HD takes 6 channel audio from games, encodes it into Dolby or DTS... and sends it off to my Harman Kardon AVR354 receiver for decoding and amplification.

If they cost around $250 at launch I might grab one. Should get about 14,500 PPD folding@Home at 925+MHz Core. I just wished it would offer 2GB right from the start!

I'm not really sure why you would want/need a audio card to encode to the new HD standards. My understanding of this is that HD Master and True HD are just uncompressed audio from Blu-Ray sources only (already encoded). Having a video card (gtx 560, 6970, etc) that can transmit this over HDMI allows me to fully utilize my reciever (to decode and amplify the stream) while only having one cable from my PC to the reciever. This is all good and fine but is really only useful for using a blu-ray drive in my PC for movie playback. I've held off buying a standalone blu-ray drive because it makes sense to utilize my PC since it is my main TV source anyways.

Even my Audigy 2 which I have been using for ages has the ability to encode audio to Dolby DTS. I dont currently use this but have always wondered how well it would work in games. Since surround sound gaming is a big necessity to me, I currently use 5.1 analog from my PC to reciever when playing games.

I guess the big question that I have that I have never really seen answered, is how good the "sound card" portion of these modern video cards really is. Will they do EAX variations? Even with the HD bitstreaming capabilities, it would seem dumb to still switch between sound devices depending on the source of the audio (gaming or blu-ray playback).

I want a video card that can bitstream HD feeds natively and also encode 5.1 surround from games then spit the whole thing out via HDMI. From what I understand about the redesigned Vista/Win7 audio stack, there should be a way to do this without spending $100+ on a seperate audio card. Maybe I am chasing a ghost?

Heres something worth thinking about; we all remember the GTX460 has 336 CUDA cores and has one of its PolyMorph engines "disabled", or as is more likely the case simply turned off by masking it in BIOS code. The important thing to note here is how the GTX460 (AFAIK) physically has 8 PolyMorph engines, but only 7 are in use. Now, my point is this; for 8 PolyMorph engines to be in use that would give you... wait for it... 384 CUDA cores. So this GTX560, could, in fact, be the GTX460 rebadged with a different BIOS enabling that unused PolyMorph engine.
