so recently glanced at my mosfet block and saw it was pretty dark and so i decided to look inside my other blocks as they are lower i need a flashlight to see the insides.. and the "darkness" as it were.
NO COOLANTS WERE USED IN THIS. JUST DISTILLED AND 2 KILL COILS.

I believe this just happens over time. Nothing an overnight soak in coca-cola can't clean.
copper oxide? maybe it's the bubbles?
My Apogee XT had something similar happen, not too bad tho, the rest are nickel plated EK blocks.
This is a result of copper reacting with oxygen in the water. It's a natural process and the layer acts as a form of protection to the copper beneath. You can choose to clean it but it will come back in time. It does not affect performance in temps.

why does a kill coil turn copper black?
Please tell us why? Copper and silvers reactivity is so low, that it would take 100 yrs for him to even start seeing corrosion on copper + silver.

I can tell you what Ethyl Glycol does, it clumps til no tomorrow if your using a block with slit injectors, like 80% of all the blocks out now.
And when it clumps, it clogs, and it looks like mystery jelly.
And the reason why they use it in cars and not computers now, is because in cars you dont have slit injectors which is fed antifreeze.

Another thing it can be is pH. If for some reason your pH in your water dropped to acidic levels.

I think it could be the distilled turning slightly acidic after reacting to something unknown in your tubing or rad.

You have red plauge corrosion, which is one of the only types of corrosion you can get between copper and silver, and that happen when you try to plate silver over copper improperly.

Lastly u need at least a 40/60 or greater mix of etyl glycol to work as a corrosion inhibitor.
Or you add something called water wetter.
But i think you guys already knew that, since all of you know more about water then i do.
Does your res have any vortex problems as in continuously sucking air back into the pump and water?
Just curious if that sort of condition might create a higher than normal oxygen level stimulating the reaction.
I've been running straight distilled with PTnuke on the same fill for over a year now and don't see any oxidation on my DD MPC chipsets although I haven't taken apart my supreme yet. Regardless a little ketchup and a toothbrush will take care of that in no time...

What about the purity of the copper and how much it's heated up during the milling process? Martins mobo blocks look formed, not cut, so little heat from pin milling?

This is what I guess happened.
My loop has been redone for about 3 weeks now, no more vinegar, just distilled water and the silver cap on the reservoir.
Will take a look at the XT some time in the future to make sure it is still clean.........

Distilled + PTnuke + UV tubing is soooo much easier. I do see a few little bits collecting on the pins here and there so I do expect I'll have some buildup in the Supreme, but I've been monitoring flow rate and not much has changed there.:up:
Martin: some buildup even when using only pure distilled always can sometimes also come as plasticiser from tubing walls.
Side question about those fans. Knowing how much overhyped Fesser's coolants are by their dedicated marketing staff, are their fans or anything else they produce even worth it at all?

I just dismantled my loop.
1. HK plate is tarnished with black stuff. Got rid of sum via ketchup + scrubbing.
2. Nickel plated EK 295 block is fine.
Running distllled + ptnuke.

I went ahead and just bought a ek supreme HF ver 2 to see if that stops the issue. As it seems to be something with the heatkiller cu 3.0. But too busy to do another loop right now though.....
