If you go above 1920 pixels all full HD movies will be stretched and will not look as good.
So yeah, either go for 1920x1200 IPS or 1920x1080 TN 3D monitor I guess...

And regarding the OP, I think this is a very decent offer for the price: the image quality should be very good, and for once a monitor in this price range has a non-retarded stand, which is great.

Gaming monitors are not about the colors, it's about refresh rate and response time. Unless you want an ultimate gaming PC and vibrant colors are important to you, you won't need IPS based panels. And if you would go IPS, it needs to be either a very new one or a overdriven one and with polarizer or else a TN panel doesn't lack too much to take that instead. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if they would do an 30" IPS version with polarizer. Sure insane price for that, but what you pay for is the best.

The Iiyama E2407HDS series seems like a good buy for you.

EDIT: If you're keen on 1920x1200, it would advise the Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW

Now I wished they would release that curved screen already, I think many who tested it found it to be very interesting to say the least

They're not. The difference between a 120Hz computer monitor and a 120 Hz (or higher) TV monitor is that the TV monitor fakes the extra refreshes while a PC monitor really does give you 120 Hz. In other words, PC monitors are not behind in any way. There are only a couple of TV that can truly handle more than 60 Hz, but I wouldn't know any model names though.

Still no 1200 vertical...is so rare for a 23" or 24"?If yes I'm going for the samsung 2343nw so, also if it has only d-sub

1920x1200 seems to be disappearing a little too fast if you ask me. A 23-24" monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio is hard to find for less than $400-500 these days. I haven't looked at every single monitor though and there may still be quite a few out there.

You're talking apples versus oranges here. This 240Hz isn't a true 240Hz processed signal on TVs. The TVs use interpolation to turn the signal into a 120hz or 240hz image. This monitor on the other hand is a true 120Hz design.

It is actually the TV manufacturers who are fleecing the customers with claims of insanely high refresh rates and contrast ratios.

While 120Hz on TV isn't the same experience, let's be specific so as not to place blame in the wrong area. TV displays that claim 120Hz are indeed panels capable of 120Hz. The video fed into it just isn't 120Hz native. It's purely an issue with input and not the output device part of it (the screen itself).

Yep better of with Acer wich is 100$ less but you lose very good stand on alienware.

And yeah gamers are fine with led tn's, so anoyed with argh not TN again..

you cant rotate the TN panel sideways for an eyefinity setup.

I for one don't see the point of upgrading my video card to use on my crappy TN panel. A decent IPS or possibly PVA panel will be my next upgrade. I'm sick of the backlight bleed, uneven colors, and horrific viewing angles.

uh, 24" is big, dude. Depending on how far you sit away from your screen, when you have to move your head to see everything...not good for video games (IMO). I don't think I could play on anything bigger than 22 and 1680x1050. It also takes a honkin vid card to churn out good frame rates at 1920x1080. I'm personally waiting for a 1680x1050 22" 120hz led.

Try a 24" screen. You'll be amazed by the increase in immersion and I even wish my screen would be bigger. You don't really have to move your head to see everything, the human eyes gets vision of a range of about 160 degrees.

I'll admit, I have a big table. I'm freely able to move my monitor forward and backwards, if I wish, though I like them close. Too close though and it will hurt your eyes. That's where big screens come in.

one reason IMO that 1200 is being replaced by 1080 is the monitor is shorter.

My kids Dell 24" wide screen has the same overal panel as the BenQ 19" std format both same height just wider.

use cheap 19" die and cut the panels wider for more profit. 19" STD LCD = 100.00 add 50% more width = $150.00 charge $300 beacuse its now a 24" """WIDESCREEN""

Err except for the viewing angles you can have the same problems on a IPS/VA* screen :yepp:
Also on VA* you get color shift so the image is still altered if you change your position relative to the screen.

Above 1920 pixels in width, and not above 1080 in height...

This is a step in the right direction. Took awhile. Now just need ips + 120hz and I'll pay the premium for one.

Alieneware is owned by Dell, and this is a Dell screen, so im sure well see a cheaper Dell version soon, i hope.

I am a led user, and lovin it. I could never go back to anything less. Until you personally see the difference, you definitely wouldnt buy anything else. The led emits a pure white. Any screen with a ccfl backlight has a very strong yellow and dim tint to it. I took my led tn screen over a pva, its that nice. I wouldnt buy any newer screen until led has infiltrated the market. I have seen nvision 3d and honestly it isnt very good. Lots of distortion and miscued 3d effects. Most of the 3d images are out of sync with the actual motion and image. Not impressive at all, unless your happy with cheap tricks. I would wait to grab a led e-ips panel imho. I was willing to give up some viewing angle for speed and input lag. With 170/160 my xl2370 has a decent viewing angle, It aint too bad honestly. Color shift on a pva is just as bad as viewing angle to me.

Input lag sux on pva and ips, only big drawback with ghosting. Games are a few frames off of whats actually going on. Thats where tn has its best advantage. If you suck at headshots in fps, now you know why.

Got a 30" 2560x1600 (LGW3000H) next to my Toshiba Regza 46"

As to input latency, the difference is approximately 1 frame between the fastest TN and a "fast" anything else, and 0 frames between the fastest of anything (except maybe MVA/PVA/E-IPS). Ghosting is not an issue for any decent display since 2 years ago.

As long as you have hardware calibration, the panel doesn't have excessive backlight bleed, and you only plan on viewing the monitor head on, the fact that the panel is a TN quickly becomes a moot point. However, I only say this for 120Hz panels. Once you realize just how amazing 120Hz is, at least if you're an FPS gamer, going back to 60Hz is nigh impossible. I went from a 24" 1920X1200 P-MVA to the 2233rz, and let me tell you, the benefit of 120Hz outweighs the cons.

I cant wait for a 120hz led backlit panel. Should be nice to see, thats why we only see some monitors here and there. Manufactures are slow to adopt for a reason, to keep marketing new crap. That way they always got something new to entice us extremist. Seriously, how hard would it be to standardize cheap 120hz led backlit e-ips panels. What are they waiting for? oh yeah, this way there is a reason to charge 2,000 dollars for a top end monitor every year.:down: You can buy huge tv's for less.

Only drawbacks might be the stand, it's maybe not that attractive to every1 and digitalversus shows slightly higher input lag than the other 120Hz LCDs but it could possibly be an issue only in non-native res too. Those who already got it are pleased and didn't notice any input lag at all.

i suppose alienwares support isnt really outstanding either though so it probably wont matter much...

idk what all this fuss about 120hz screen ghosting is about... ive seen dozens of 120hz screens and never saw any ghosting whatsoever... :shrug:
i think the problem is probably caused if you have less than 120 frames displayed at 120hz which means the screen or vga creates doubles of every frame, and, worse yet, interpolates them to make it look smooth and not stutter... idk if the screens ive seen ran special demos with high fps... but i really didnt notice any ghosting at all and im usually very sensitive to ghosting, flickering, stuttering, you name it :p:

You need to run games at 240FPS and be blessed with a very good pair of eyes and cortex to benefit it.
@YukonTrooper-QFT,except for color gradients which if the dithering doesn't work well it creates noticeable steps between shades of a color.

^ on the flip side there's also no reason to artificially limit panels to 120hz if they can do 240hz (or even 480hz) just fine. If someone's running a older game that can run at 240hz why not "free it" to do so. I mean if you think about it, it sounds more like planned obsolescence to me.

I find it a bit odd that they're charging $500 for a monitor that only has a DVI and a HDMI input. D-SUB and DisplayPort anyone?

If im not mistaken 1080p @ 120hz is max bandwidth wise over Dual Link DVI cable , to get higher hz we need new tech. So 240hz/480hz is completely unreal.

Not if they used DisplayPort 1.2 to do it.

EDIT: Just did a bit of research, but you will be able to do that with a DisplayPort connection, not with HDMI though as HDMI does not have the necessary bandwidth.

thats actually untrue, if the input was 120hz, it still would have issues, being that the video signal is scanned and processed through a small processor and converted to 120hz using interpolation and other methods depending on the company, other than that, its 60hz.

this is the reason you cant plug your computer into the tv and get real 120hz through a non DRM HDMI port. it does the same exact thing with that signal as well.

Is it possible for a LCDTV to be created to really do 120hz? yes, but it hasnt happened yet, as the only true 120hz TVs right now are DLP. I would imagine they would be extremely expensive.

your partly right though, the panel is capable, but its not as simple as plugging a 120hz feed into it to get 120hz.

240hz is worse, most 240hz tvs arent even really 240hz. In fact, I think its only 1 or 2 companies that actually convert 60 to the actual number of 240. its almost like they have turned this measurement into a marketing name.

LG has said it wants a consumer 20" panel on the market by 2010. Larger TV's (40"+) probably won't be available until late 2012. And the prices on these entry-market panels are going to seer a hole through your wallet, into the ground, and all the way to China.

OLED is definitely all kinds of sexy, though.

IPS panel has a lower response time than TN; but it has nothing to do with input lag.

Not really,input lag is caused by processing inside the monitor and "usually" higher end models *VA/*IPS have more input lag than TN's but that's not always true since the latest eIPS and C-PVA monitors have low input lag, under one image,DELL 2209WA and Samsung F2380 are fine examples of this.
But pixel responsiveness is another thing and in this category TN still rule.

No way I'd pay $450 for this. For $450 I could get two 25" 1920x1200 LCDs and run dual monitors.

Or switch both 25" monitors around at around 60 Hz to get your 120 Hz gaming monitor. Might be a bit cumbersome to do though.

It's called: "Moar phrames".
It just runs at 120 Hz and to get 3D you have to use shutter glasses to provide each eye 60 fps.

Nope, the ViewSonic 23.6" 1080P V3D241wm-LED will be the first and is targeted for Q2. Looking forward to this one myself as well as I'd like less BLB that's what on this VX2268wm 120Hz. :(

You can't be 100% certain that the 1080p 120 Hz ViewSonic will actually have less backlight bleed than your current monitor. Not until you see any tests though, but the mere fact they used LED as back lighting will not guarantee you it will have less BLB. I'm not saying BLB will be the same or worse, it probably is better, but you won't know until you see it for yourself.

Its a case by case scenario, my xl2370 has very low bleed. Its a different kind of light bleed though, the led almost makes the panel glow, compared to ccfl. My xl2370 has a huge brightness 350cd/mm2, the dell g2410 has almost zero bleed but is also a lot less bright. Pay attention to brightness, that will tell you if it has more bleed than not. I can handle a little light bleed for the extremely bright and crisp colors I get.

Nvidia 3d vision isnt worth upgrading for. If thats why you want a 120hz monitor your making a mistake. Buy a 120hz monitor for smoother frames and clean images. 3d vision sounds a hell of a lot cooler than it actually looks.:down:

Yes I know LED isn't a garantue for less BLB but in my case the BLB is very disturbing cuz it's like totally blue! I don't mind the little grayish BLB I can notice in the other edges but the blue tint black has at bottom edge is totally disturbing:

Brightness at 100% in that pic, ofc it helps a lot by reducing brightness but even at like 25 it's still very noticable in dark scenes.

I've now used to 22" 1680x1050 which is 16:10, and I definitely wouldn't want to go for 16:9... this FullHD hype is just Full marketing. If you do anything else than watch movies (which will most probably still leave black edges because most of them are not 16:9), you'd be better with 16:10 ratio. And watching video on a TN screen... its something I never want to do again after I'll get rid of my TN-sh*t (Samsung 2233BW)

That was my point precisely. Having IPS panel doesn't automatically mean you'd get high input lag.

As for response time it doesn't really bother me much on a PC monitor. Somehow I notice ghosting on TV much more easily than on a PC monitor :shrug:
