Damn those fans are ugly. I wonder how it will perform though.
saw this in the water cooling section i think
its nice they offer compatibility, but they would really need to provide shrouds that prevent extra airflow from escaping (outside the fins on 120mm, within the fins on 140mm)
Looks like IFX-14 ver.2, bound to fail IMO. But we will see.
Has 2 more heatpipes, though.
Also it will have just as retarded motherboard compatibility due to this huge ass heatsink.
Dont see the point in using that 140mm. A 120mm will fit better and look nicer.
hope the 120 and the 140 have the same airflow otherwise its a big fail
Should have made the center fan black to reduce the fugly factor...
Hard to say for sure, but looks like a pretty wide fin spacing - the restriction might not be too bad, especially with two fans at work. I like those silicone blocks that the 120mm fan is resting against. Better than skinny little strips a la TRUE, or the pins like the Vendetta 2.
Be interesting to see how two 120s and two 140s compare to the 120 and 140 combo...Quote:

Those 6 heat pipes in that configuration looks very promising. It's interesting to see if this can raise the air-bar with a few degrees. When can vi expect a test?

7C better on an i5 750 @4GHz than a NH-U12P, not bad, but not ground breaking either.
OK, this is pretty impressive.
http://images.hardwarecanucks.com/im...a/q6600_34.jpg
If it actually is 6C better than NH-U12P, then it's as good as Megahalem. Or maybe even better!
It's way bigger, though...
The thing is, though... Need to compare those with similar fans. That would give more accurate results.
I've been using Megahalem for a while now, and it is a great cooler. But considering those 6 heat pipes, the configuration of pipes, and up to 3 fans, then hopefully a few degree better than Megahalem is in reach,
It would be interesting to follow a few tests on this one.
Between this one and the Mega Shadow, my heart swings...
I wish noctua got rid of that color scheme ~_~
I dont believe that the appearance of the fans is nearly as important as the function of the fans. That front fan has vortex notches, wondering if the center fan does as well? I have read about these vortex notches and it seems to improve the flow of air. That may have a very large impact on the performance of this cooler.
no copper base
Uhhhmmm, sorry, but just because it isn't copper-colored, doesn't necessarily mean that it is not made of copper. ;) I highly doubt that they would use anything else than copper or silver on a top of the line heatsink like that. And as silver would make this thing super expensive, I bet that it is nickel plated copper.
So, don't just always go by the looks.
The Noctua fan colors are not very appealing , true.
But the NF P12 is the best fan I've ever used. low noise and great airflow.
Noctua does not launch products too often, but when they do, they really put out the good stuff. In this case, I am really curious how this one will perform (will be testing one next week). Anyway, it is obvious that Noctua is interested in silent computing, so this one is probably optimised for low air-flow and will not shine at high air-flow. The unfortunate resemblence with the IFX concerns me though, but real testing needs to be done untill drawing some conclusions.
It would be great with a real test. Maybe with different fan-options, like
3 fans, and other fans (with high static pressure) too?.
I'm using NF-P12 as a case-fan, and it is a great low-noise fan with good air-flow. But it doesn't have enough static pressure, and therefore isn't the best CPU-fan. But that NF-P14 (+ an extra fan#3) can change the picture totally. Maybe this combination can become the ultimate low-noise and high performance? I have a good hunch about this, but only a good test will show the real stuff!
Well, we will try to have a test as complete as possible, just like we did on our LGA 775 round-up. Just as a side note, I just finished a test today with a silent PC built using mostly Noctua solutions, and I might say that for the average Joe, the system is mighty powerfull and very silent. Of course, it will not satisfy the silent pc maniac which is dreaming about a complete fanless PC, but for most people this is pretty darn silent. Maybe a NH-D14 could lower the CPUtemps even more, we will see about that :)
The fans I would throw out. The HS looks nice though. Not a very big fan of Noctua fans.
OP, your avatar is about the expression I had on my face when I saw this... Thing :D
It's just the opposite, no? The NF-P12 is the one with higher static pressure (1.68 mm H2O) but lower airflow and is intended for CPU HSFs, or restrictive/obstructed airflow applications; where the NF-S12 has lower pressure (1.31 mm H2O) but higher airflow and is meant for less obstructed ventilation.

http://www.noctua.at/images/feature_...ld_airflow.jpg
I've been cooling an E8400 clocked around 4 MHz for quite awhile now on a single NF-P12 with no issues. (Cooled a hotter E6600 with good results as well.) I'm also happy with the NF-S12's and NF-R8's I'm using for case duties.
Yes the NF-P12 is the one with higher pressure, but even that is too little pressure to handle a CPU with high effect. I have used this fan on a NH-U12P cooler, and it worked fine for my good old E8400 up to @4.1GHZ, but it couldn't handle the high effect of my latest Core i7's at>@4GHZ, and therefore it ended up as case fan.
These new Quad-Core's need a couple of CPU-fan with higher static pressure. Those San Ace fans looks good, with a lot of pressure, but is too noisy for my liking
For everyone who wonder how good this new cooler performs. I've already received a sample and tested it on my testing-rig based on a Intel Core i7 920. Reference-fans are two Noctua NF-P12 (with the NF-P14 I'll test tomorrow), which I used on every cooler for better comparement.

With one fast fan, this monster is just a little bit better than the Megahalems and with two of them it's about 2k better. Even more impressive results you'll get with low-RPM-fans. With two 600RPM the Noctua NH-D14 beats the Megahalems at (at....by....at....by....at? Oh, i wish i could write in german ^^) about 5,5k, not bad, ha? ^^
^^ Not bad at all, that's what i was hoping for. Where did you post your temps and other stuff?
I'll post it on the Hardwareluxx-Forums in the next few days
Just a little food for thought:
So, by your definition "xtreme" always means powerful?
Ever thought about the fact that there's also "xtremely silent", "xtremely efficient", "xtremely nice looking" and/or "xtremely innovative".
I do agree that this is indeed xtremesystems, but that doesn't mean that anything around here has to be about POWER, POWER and POWER only. ;)
i just got my hands on 2 NFP12 fans for my V350 and i have to say that they are quiteter than my old s-flex @800rpm while running at higher RPM and pushing more air
the s-flex fans had some issues with low frequent buzzing noise when running at low rpm similar to hd 4870 coil buzzing under extreme 3D load (furmark)
if you want proper low noise fans + coolers then noctua is the way to go ;)
What you said was that this is xtremesystems, implying that we only talk about and/or use powerful fans around here. And that was the reason that I posted what I posted. ;) It sounded like you were saying that the Noctua fans were kind of bad, because they are not powerful enough. And that would be BS. Period! I'm sorry, but that's what it sounded like to me.
Dude you need to learn to read or something as you obviously like to put words in people's mouths. Your stating that your posting to something I was implying, defining etc. Here let's capture this once again and I will highlight the area of interest that might help you a little....
Wow it seems I singled out myself in saying that 'I like' the high powered fans and that in an even earlier post said that I was not a fan of Noctua fans. To most people that is pretty much an open and shut case to what I like and dislike. I did not define nor implied that everyone must do the same. If you have to just keep reading the last line over and over again so it sinks in. Sorry but I do not like trolling posts. Stop putting words/implications or definitions that do not exist in peoples posts just so you can try and come out looking like your an intelligent being. I do not like their fan plain and simple. I like the one's I have in my link. End of story! :yepp:Quote:
Ummm no! LED's don't make a good fan. I like San Ace fans myself. Especially the high powered one's. Click the youtube links in my sig for my vids to show the fans I do like. This is XtremeSystems don't forget!
Now back on topic to what I think is a great product even though I do not like the fans.
I don't put words in other poeple's mouth and I do know how to read and comprehend. You don't seem to know the whole meaning of what you wrote. That seems to be the problem. If you post something like "This is XtremeSystems don't forget!" you do imply something with it. And don't tell me that you just put it there for no reason.
In this context it clearly means something along the lines of "I like powerful SanAce fans and you should like them, too, because this is xtremesystems and that's what we prefer around here.".
Now, prove me wrong! I just don't like the attitude of some people, who think that they must dictate what's discussed on the forums. If someone wants to write about silent cooling and energy saving, relatively slow CPUs, why not let him, instead of telling him that "this is xtremesystems".
I hope you understood what I'm trying to say. BTW, all the ROFL smilies, don't really make up for the lack of arguments in a discussion. ;)
And what would be your purpose in helping him derail a thread for an absolutely useless argument? Seriously I think I know what I wrote and even explained further. Seriously let it die. Already put him on my ignore list and if anyone else wants to contribute to his useless cause in putting words and definitions in my posts over what fans I like I will gladly put them on the list with him. Keep the thread on topic!
Oh FFS cut the crap already. You have PMs for it.
Seriously, getting sick of checking this thread for updates just to find more useless bickering.
Keeping the CPU cool, it is not the biggest challenge. You can always use some big-fat-noisy fan and get it done. But getting it cool&quiet on air is a bigger and more interesting challenge.
I would like to see some benchies with the original fans and with other more powerful fans. Also it is why we have fan controllers. You can turn them down and turn them up at your leisure and it is the reason why I like higher powered fans.
Not my purpose to "help him derail a thread". I'm simply saying you shouldn't criticize a product (the Noctua fans) for something that they weren't really meant to do - like very high CFM output.
In their range of operation re CFM vs. noise, they do a fine job based on my experience. IOW, stick to the intended purpose, not what you wish they would do.
If you want to put me on your ignore list for pointing this out, well, my feelings won't be hurt.
Yeah, but there is a fine balance there. I personally have been playing with several fan-options lately, including a "higher powered" 38mm Scythe Ultra Kaze (2000 RPM).
I used it on a Prolimatech Megahalems, connected to my DFI's own fan-control (a good one with both auto and WS control). That fat-thingy was making too much noise (even on reduced speed) without effecting the temperature as much (at least compared to my 2xScythe Slipstream 1600RPM push/pull which I'm using now).
Try the Gentle Typhoons too. They are great fans in themselves for performance and silence. I do not use them myself well because I am half deaf anyway so I don't even hear my San Ace fans at 2500 rpm. I definitely hear them though at 6000 RPM.
I wonder why there is such a problem getting the 1800 rpm models? Seriously if I was a company and had an item that sold like hot cakes I would make sure that production like would get priority. It's weird. But oh well to each their own and how they run their business I guess.
Haha, this thread had gotten bad. Anyhow, I'm eagerly waiting reviews before spending the last $100 I'll be able to spend for a very long time. I'm wondering what kind of issues there are with clearing ram heatsinks as well.
i think its interesting to see how well this does on its own fans, and other fans of similar speeds. heatsinks are not simply the "best" in all cases. if we see one with very tightly packed fans, and needed a super high pressure fan to move any air, it could just be designed to cool an i7 in a small space with a little noise. while others could have open fins and designed for medium wattage cpus cooled with dead silent fans.
id like to see more HS/F combos built to work well together, rather than "another" tower cooler that looks like the rest
"Litle" NH-D14 in the house. We will start extensive testing against IFX-14 and Triton 88 (which have similar design), and of course Megahalems. This time it will take a while, since we will be trying to test it as thoroughly as possible. The first contact is promising if you ask me :)

I have great success with the ENERMAX MAGMA 120mm fan. It has good cfm and very silent. 69cfm and 18db at 1560rpm There isnt any bearings on this fan.
For some reason I hear people talk crap about these fans, I dont know why though. :shrug:I have 3 of them in my case and 1 on my megahalem. They are the quietest fans I have heard, I have them run full blast at all times and my refrigerator runs way louder than them. I think people try to use them as a intake fan without a controller and complain that there too loud. Any fan that is intake will almost always make alot more noise because of turbulence, the rpms are more important when using a intake fan. It is really nice that the fan blades are detachable on the fan, it is really handy cleaning the heatsink.
it will be curious to know what the HS performs like with 2 / 3 fans or even fanless
You can run a Intel Core i7 920 @ 1,2V @ 1,25V QPI semi-passiv without problems. Hottest core became only 71°.
Also it performs very good with two fans, far better than with one fan.
Damn look at the size of this thing.... Thanks for the pic. I wonder how heavy this is.

so it looks like we have a new champion then?
:yepp:
Yay Noctua!
Very impressive though not surprising with it's massive size and surface area. I'm surprised that the H50 performs so well with 2 quiet fans tho. I wonder how they compare at higher heat levels though that's where the IFX-14 should shine and the H50 and other such coolers collapse.
I would think those extreme air overclocking levels are where the IFX-14, this cooler and the new Iceage 120 Boss 2 (5 8mm HDT heatpipes) would be used.
Hmmm, no way it's gonna fit on my Classified it seems.
2 degrees over Megahalems aren't worth 90 USD anyway, though.
But this is definitely a cooler to get if you want top notch performance it seems.
I'm surprised by the really poor performance of the TRUE in that test. Can that be correct?
Idle Temps? Where do you see idle-temps?
Convexe base, pretty bad contact :(
Oh, I saw those temp around 35'C ...and it looked like idle temp. Excuse my German (or what language it is), but now I see those are delta at load.
EDIT:
But I still would like to see load-temp with ~1.3v.
well where is the copper true in that lineup? i wonder how this would compare to a copper true?
Im more intrested in the noise factor. This cooler seems to be like it would be a louder cooler, not to mention its footprint. I still think a megahalem has a beter size/noise ratio to cooling. This a monter of a cooler, and as ac/dc would put it "ball breaker, board cracker"
EDIT: Also intrested in performance while overclocked, the mini review was done at modest settings, but definately a nice cooler. Wheres the black edition with black and purple fans?
Tommy what's einblasend and ausblasend on Corsair H50?
Am I the only one who cant view the pics?
Tommy can u take pictures with 3 fans?
Agreed... but don't think it would fit... at least with an exhaust fan at the back of a case. Wasn't it something like 3 or 4 cm or clearance?
Solution: P12 - P14 - P12, and an exhaust P12 on the outside of the case! ;)
http://img6.abload.de/img/grou6bd.jpg
3 fans would still be epic. :)
it can fit, but depends of the front cooler, if the cooler be 90 mm i think it will fit
Hey Tommy, nice tests. Thanks for them.
Now Iīm waiting for NF-P12 + NF-P14 FLX fan to see some results!
Oh and, your TRUE is so bad :( But being rev A thatīs kind of normal.
 Thanks
Oh, BTW. Do you have this pic @ high res? (1920x1200 or more)
That would be a nice wallpaper :)
