Well... today i received my heatkiller:) and im thinking to silver,chrome or nickel plate the upper copper part of the block:D
The think is which of these 3 metals has the better results with heat, corrosion etc.???

um, kinda hard to not plate the bottom... the thing gets dipped into some liquid in process of plating...
the Ybris Eclipse I have is chrome plated and the performance is just fine!
just take the entire block apart and only have the top portion plated, yeah you'll see a bit of copper if you look directly from the side but thats about it.Quote:

last i checked, they hang the components on a rack and dip it into a bath of some chemicals and whatnot...
also seen this on OCC as well...
it's kinda tough for them to plate only the top areas... it's not a brush on technique...

It is true that thermal conductivity of nickel is smaller than copper (about 25%). But the thickness that one plates nickel is on the order of microns. The thermal resistance will be negligible. The two major thermal resistances occurs in transfering the heat from the IHS to the waterblock (thermal paste, small amounts of trapped air, and oxides) and transfering heat from the waterblock to the water (boundary layer). So you will not notice any performance losses by plating the block with nickel, because the other resistances are much greater.
They told me that they cant nickel plate the aluminium parts is that true or should i find another workshop?Quote:

Yes, Copper plating first is usually involved in nickel plating. I don't know of any commonly plated base metal that doesn't get the copper treatment then nickel.Quote:

That stainless steel plate is removable... just grab an optical flat screw driver and carefully lift up even !
