Hi guys, so I mentioned in a few threads that I would be making a new build in the coming months. Currently I am at RPI so all the parts are back at my house in their shipped boxes. I have a parts list for you guys as it stands, I will probably be buying a few more parts as it goes along. You can expect a finished product by the middle January '09.

(do you guys thing a A70 solid replacement top panel could be plasma cut to fit the PC-P80 ???)


Since I have been at RPI the thing I have been looking forward to the most has been the machine shop, today I went down to check the place out and I was pleasantly surprised. I found out that I have access to a CNC Plasma cutter:woot: for cutting any 2d design I would like down to 2/1000” accuracy. I have nearly unlimited free access to this cutter and it is going to meld perfectly with my build plans :D. I also have access to numerous manual mills, a brand new CNC Lathe and many Manual Lathes. :D:D:D:D:up::up::up:.

The case internal frame is going to be painted Matte White (can’t decide whether to powdercoat or spray paint white) and I will be following a theme of blue LEDs and UV blue items inside the case.

The first time I will be home to pick up parts for the case is October 10th. In the coming week I will be posting side panel designs and asking for opinions. I hope to bring you guys a top notch, all out build that will go down in the record books :up::up::up:

hahaha yeah, I will take original pictures when I get home on OCT11th, then I'll disassemble the case and bring it in parts to school with me. Hopefully I'll get some time to start drawing out the side panel in NX5 that way I can get opinions on designs from you all. (I start pledging at a frat tomorrow so I probably won't have a ton of time :\)

I like first one better because you can see your mobo with no obstructions in a typical TT fashion. The first one sort of looks oriental too which is different and different is good.

I like this side panel the best and yeah it does suit the front door. It would be cool if you could get the same spacing too.

I'll look into the spacing, not sure how it will translate to the side panel as I don't have the case in front of me, I will definitely do some measurements though when I can.

Here's a concept image of the color scheme, I will be painting the mesh on the door white for sure however I have not decided whether to paint the top white....

remember this is a concept I just used the magnetic lassoo and some crude photoshop.

This panel is a revision of the third panel, it keeps with the scale of the stripes on the front of the case which is 2:1 (as Momiji suggested ;)). I also added another Bar to make it fit correctly, and the bars are thinner :up:

Well I like this one the most. You just need like another 5 people's opinions lol.

On a side note, I hate the magnetic lasso tool .. .. . we just don't get along and I've never used it haha.

I like the last one the best. I'm looking forward to this, I remember you saying you were saving the P80. It would be cool if you mounted the rad behind the 140.3mm fanned door.

So this weekend is coming up quick and I have a crapload of parts waiting for me at home! I will most definitely be on a picture taking frenzy after i spend some quality time with my family ;).

my first priority agenda:

-prelim pics of all the parts.

-paint test. checking UV reaction, possibly ordering some special highend UV paint

-Sleeving test. I got some new type of sleeving from buyheatshrink.com, should be interesting to see how it looks compared to techflex and MDPC sleeving

-Disassembly, I have an appointment at the powder coater's on Monday the 13th to get a quote on powdercoating the interior frame and varios other parts


other than that we'll see what I can come up with, I think I might bring my GTZ that i ordered the other day with me to school so i can install it into my loop....still havent decided.

I think you may get away with 45 degree barbs.

hmmmm just looked in sketchup and the delrin T looks like it will fit with NO space to spare.... this may need some more thought

Zanzabar told me just now that a Bitspower Crystal T is only 15-20 mm (no exact measurement, so I have the possibility to use that and some SLI d-plugs...


ANOTHER option, run 38mm fans plus empty 25 mm fan housings in the same sandwich... then I would be ably to use the dual row method I drew out above....

thats a great idea, however I don't think I will be using the double 320's anymore now that the 420 GTX came out.

My plan now is to use the 420 GTX, the stock case fans, and some fan adapters then use my H1011 Sanyos on it, should be very potent cooling for my CPU :).



I also just managed to get a PC-p80 dual fan radiator top :woot:

Here is an update, I had my sh**ty 4 year old camera :( I will have the good one in thanksgiving when I actually start building :

Here you can see the sleeving I will be using, Its a combo of two sleeve types that creates a perfectly round, straight, white sleeve. In the pic it looks off white because it is not correctly balanced to the ambient.

@SNiiPE_DoGG - That is a great look on the wiring. What are the two types of sleeving you are using and where did you buy them? (Links, please, if you can?)

its 11 awg acrylic coated fiberglass non-expandable sleeve (inner sleeve) and White techflex 1/8 for the outer. creates a great look as you guys will see once I get down and dirty with it.

buyheatshrink.com is where to find it, they are a bulk reseller so I have 250 ft of the inner and 200ft (+ 100ft I bought from ppc's) of the outer.

My new favorite toy, Tresna 300mm scale digital calipers, so useful, instant unit conversion and super accurate measurements = win.

Overall I think I will be pursuing purchasing some time on the school waterjet cutter for the clean finish I am looking for on my side panel, I have just sent an email to the head of the Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory @ RPI on the subject and I should hear back in a few days.

Thanks for the info on the sleeving, SNiiPE. Going to look into the color selection for ideas. That's some great looking stuff.

*EDIT* Boo! The Acrylic Coated sleeving only comes in Black, White, and Natural. But they have something they call "Fray Resistant" Fiberglass Sleeving that comes in Black, Natural, Red, and Yellow. Odd thing is that they show a Blue sample, but don't offer it as a choice.

I'm liking the ideas, custom side panels rock. I made a square with a jigsaw and that was hard enough for me to pull off, looks like a six year old with the coordination of a cow went at it in some places.

If you have access to a waterjet then I'd go for it, what kind of prices to they charge?

Also, I'm not sure if you've heard about the fee associated with quoting me in sigs... :wasntme: :p:

its $27 an hour for me as a student at RPI but as it is a personal project I get backlogged until there is free time on the cutter :\ it may be a few weeks until I get the panel pics posted up here.

and yes I thoroughly enjoyed reading that post so you got the honor of first person I have ever quoted in my sig :)



General update: As I alluded to in earlier posts, the case should be coming back from the powdercoater's next week, then Cyber druid should have pics for me/this thread

I have a similar set up in a system I'm working on, a pair of stacked 240s in the top of a HAF 932. I got away with it by having inlets at opposite ends and using spanners and hex headed screws.

Hey, may I ask where you go the adapter/shroud things? I can't seem to find a good place to buy shrouds, and I don't really want to make my own.

for the gtx420 I bought some aerocool 140mm fans that came with the blue plastic adapter, lol $20 a pop ain't cheap but it works

I have only just noticed this thread.

What you are doing looks fantastic, but I was wondering if you had seen the BEAST Aphros systems. They have started using this case but have customised them to fit their new paraflow liquid cooling. Its very similar to what you are doing only rather than sandwiching two 240mm rads together they mount one on either side of the front of the case and use the 140mm fans to draw air into a chamber and then push the air back out either side of the two rads.

The temperatures of that system are fantastic and they are just using a single loop with three 240mm XSPC radiators so the radiators themselves aren't that expensive.

I realise you don't want to copy and you want to follow your own design I just thought that those articles might make interesting reading for you.

Congrats on the work so far I will be following this thread with great interest, the P80 is a highly underated case and I'm lookingn forward to seeing your results.

hmmm never seen that It looks like they did a great job with their setup, I like how their panel came out :)

I considered doing something very similar with 320mm rads originally but decided against it because I found this 420gtx.

I will be boxing off areas in my case, you will see more of that in december ;)

I sent him the case as you see it a few posts above and he:

- sandblasted the parts that were chromed by Lian-Li.
- disassembled it for the powder facility.
- re-assembled it for shipping to me.

Beautiful.

My Powershot does not really captuire the pearlescent effect well. To the nekkid eyebulb it is exactly like pearls...very subtle with an opalescent sheen and some fine grained metallic sparkle. It's tough as hell too

I know right? it turned out to be more than I wanted to pay originally, but the the spirit of the great watercooling god in the sky inspired me to just do it. :rofl:

seriously though I am all out of money because all of my extra cash I had in another account had to go to college tuition as a result of stock market crashes and devalued MF's. it F***ing sucks.


No worries though, I have everything and more than what I need now. once I get my comp apart I will be able to sell a lot of parts, watch the FS for some good deals on MCW-60s, MCR320s, my kickass mushkin ram and maybe my DFI-x38.

Christmas will bring money from relatives and some new presents as well :)

I got my superannuation report yesterday and the value of my super fund decreased by 40%. Luckily I'm only 20 so there isn't much anyway and I don't give a crap BUT imagine if I was going to retire next year. . . . .. .

I love the colour from CDs photos so if it looks even better then that's awesome.

quick update that tonight I snagged a 4870x2 for only $320 shipped :shocked::shocked: :woot:

it will be included in this build and I believe it will also feature swiftech's caldera block assuming it is released in a timely manner :)

i'm damm curious bout how the rad placement turns out .. it has been in my mind for sometime to know if sandwiching 2 rads is better than single good rad

once the 420 GTX was released my plans changed, I may very well make a 3 loop system with a 140mm rad on the top fan slot.... we will see

Hmm, does the 420 really perform that well compared to 320 when using only 120mm fans (even the SanAces) and those adapters instead of 140mm fans. Seems kinda waste of space to me :D Otherwise the build looks good so far:up:

there are 140mm on the other sides of the radiator ;) its just a push pull and the 120mm san aces pull 100 cfm at full speed through the 140mm rad so it shouldn't make a difference what size they are as long as they can handle the volume required

About your build: I love radiators for 140-mm-fans, so I can totally appreciate your decision! :up:

Just to do a quick pic-less update: I finally got in contact with the guy at the facility for the waterjet cutting after an email mixup fiasco lol, anywho I'm bringing the panel over to him tomorrow to discuss the project and I'll probs get it doen by next week some time.
