you really should do a search before you start a new thread.
i am gonna pray and hope really hard.
That i can drop my current HD3870's on air.
And i can reuse my HD blocks. Im just praying its a die shrinkage and DDR upgrade and same pcb layout.
Eddy should be getting his GTX today or tomorrow iirc, no idea about the 4870. I would assume that he would want one out ASAP.
Wow, usually ATI provides schematics/review samples to waterblock makers before the cards are released, while nVidia doesn't. Interesting how neither of them seem to have jumped on the ball this time.
They may have everything they need for a 4870 WB, but NDA may prevent them from letting us know.
Only 2 FC blocks for the 280

Doesn't it seem kind of silly that every time a new block comes out, people immediatly post "hai eddy, whens the new blocks going to come out!!!"
Patience is a virtue, i'm sure they'll be here eventually, like they always are.
The AC blocks REALLY need SLI out of the box and not depended on 90's......
Man I hope the 4870 blocks are available quickly after the cards release. I want them badly.. Don't want to use those crappy ramsinks anymore, and especially not on two cards. According to this thread the layout isn't much different: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=191096
Doubt FC blocks will fit though. Memory placing is different, but as Jimmyz says some minor mod might fix it.
well after looking at this picture.
The layout looks almost the same as my Diamond HD3870.
Last time i remember the ram placement was same also. And the mosfets is identical.

EDIT: ACK nm i remember how the first chip looks like. You right ram wont allign.
Maybe It wont have to.

not to mention they brought back the ring around the core like the X850/X1950 cards, which iirc was slightly higher than the core.
that shouldnt matter because the core should stay the same height no?
If anything that metal thing is a shim more then a height booster.
I seriously want to try a HD block on it and see if it will fit.
When will these cards come out? So i can buy one and see. Cuz <3 how xfire works with different cards. :D

eta still unknown hopefully a week or so
why does that drawing have a 6 and 8 pin plug????
shouldn't power needed drop as the die shrinks????
@!#@!$#$@
i want to SLI 280's. THose cards are the pinicle of SEXY.
But until either nvidia or Intel decides to stop being stuck up, that just wont happen in my upgrade path.
Love the rear cover on the EK, definitely will be getting a pair as soon as they are available.
The Ek looks quite nice. Are they opting for full copper without the aluminum section over the power regulators? I hope so, I just think it looks nice and I like the 1 piece solid feel you get with it. The block looks awesome though, can't wait to see real pictures of it.
is it me, or does that EK block look kinda like OZ. . .. ?
I hope that EK will release soon his block.
It should be heavy and expensive with this double block.
those are some nice blocks
Eddie will have them ready next week, though in limited numbers at first... if it's anywhere near 8800GTX block performance my GTX will love it big time !!
Héhé I should have my gtx280 the next week (or maybe this week). This time, we don't need to wait too much to have good waterblocks (not like the release of the 8800GTX)
Hi guys!
You are the first one to see these images.
Enjoy.
Eta end of next week!
sweet loooks like : http://www.eko.uj.edu.pl/przyrodakrakowa/galeria/41.jpg ;)
sweet! I like the doubled sided part and I really like the fact there's no aluminum.
are full cover blocks better than die blocks with a sink on the remaining components (like fuzion gfx with unisink)? or does it not really make a difference?
Well it depends, you will usually get better temps with a die only block and just some sinks on the memory/mosfets compared to a full cover.
The reason is because the coolant takes heat from both the memory/mosfets AND the core/die. So theres added heat dump in other words. But if you've got a big enough radiator(s) there shouldn't be hardly a difference.
And IMO, full covers are sexier. :D
there is a difference to tubbing management too.
You cannot use big fittings on a MCW-60 or DTEK but when you got a full card block the fittings usually can be in opposite sides and will not collide with each other.
i think im holding both my systems until neha skulltrail comes out.
My 8800GT SLI system still can do way more then what i use it for. Right now all it does is play movies. LOL Need to find some good arcade emulators. :P
Pick up neha skulltrail, migrate this system over to my torture rack, and ditch the SLI setup entirely. *good riddence NViDIA*
I am picking up 2 HD4870X2 in 8 weeks when they come out. Possibly even 3 if we get inside pics on the new neha skulltrail board.
Hey nice block Eddy:up:
Lol @ the snail. Funny thing is it's actually quite a good match...
ohh ok.. well as long as regular fittings like DD fat boys fit im fine
ek nikel plated 280gtx extreme goodness....
mmmmmmmmmm
oOo, can't wait!
Very tasty :)
Just gotta decide which card to go for now
Sorry for the OT.
Is 280GTX SLIed 2-way even capable of competing against GX2 4-way SLI ? I thought that a 280GTX single can't even keep up with a single GX2.
Naekuh,
The new Nela Skulltraill will allow six ATI cores crossfired ? :)
depends on the resolution and settings.
Iany seriously wait for the 4870X2 solution b4 you go dropping 4 figures on your GPU Sector.
And i know your gonna wanna grab one of those Extra Special CPU's i just PM'd ya.
It better, otherwise i dont see a solution to Crysis.
Really six ATI cores possible? <-- immediate no brainer...
Besides, I've got SSD fever.
Hi Guys thats Looks very nice ;)
The Backplate looks Like the EK Water Blocks EK-FCR600 - CF Xtreme Acetal ;)
http://www.hardware.feichti.com/gfx/...0-tops-019.jpghttp://www.hardware.feichti.com/gfx/...0-tops-020.jpg
When they are installed it looks very nice ;)
http://www.hardware.feichti.com/gfx/...48-dq6-025.jpghttp://www.hardware.feichti.com/gfx/...48-dq6-028.jpg
So you have got an impression how it looks when the backplate is also watercooled.
I Hope the will be also a nice cooler for the new 4870 and 4870x2 ;)
Greeds Feichti
Is there a reason you got 1 side acetal and 1 side plexi?
Ek having the backplate on the gtx 280block sure doesn't make it single slot anymore.
well the 4870 has been released, but what about a water block for it?
what's the expected date for the block?
Sexy. Looks to be restrictive though with such a flat block, correct?
will it be in the US tho..
The MOSFET section is rather immaterial....it can be removed from the EK full cover block. The real question is whether the RAM chips line up well enough to contact the EK block's RAM cooling, along with the gpu. If one has to buy separate MOSFET coolers, like Swiftech's or Enzotech's stick-on cooling solutions, so be it. $10-$20 is a heck of a lot cheaper than $90 or more for a completely new block.
Personally, I hope the EK 3870 block will fit well enough on the 4850 card......and am waiting for someone to try.
It might. EK could just release a screw-in mosfet section.
shoggy i asked a mod to see if we can get your name color upgraded since your a vendor rep.
If you get contacted its because i put in a recomendation for ya.
The EK 280 blocks look really nice, but I have a horrible feeling that the block to cover the ram on the back side of the card will interfere with the PCI slot for my sound card :(
In case anyone's interested... http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/ek-fc280-g...der-1660-p.asp
My 4870 will be here tomorrow... I wish i had a 3870 block to test if it fits!
If its fits that would be just great!
Quick someone try! lol
sorry guys i would be able to test this for you.
The HD4870 i was gonna buy is gona be postponed a few months.
this little girl is going to set me back on all my projects:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...la/Capture.jpg
EK Blocks for the 280GTX are for sale on the EK site... I can't tell what is going on with the back plate though...

Remember they come from Slovenia
EVGA's solution for the 280 http://www.evga.com/products/enlarge...CU-HC16-B1&I=1 :rocker::guitar::rocker:
Didn't EVGA use DD blocks on prior cards? This doesn't look like a DD product.
Would the 4870 block fit on a 4850 too?
GPU and ram seems to be identical but there is different power circuit.
I just got my his 4870 in today and my 3870 EK block WILL NOT fit. The pcb holes dont align at all besides the 4 center ones which sucks. I really wanted to fit it on this card.
Guess we will have to wait for EK to get us a new one.
3dmark06 score below. These 4870s are wicked fast.
*Dreams shattered*
Today I ordered 2 WB EK for my gtx280, something recommended to put on the back of the card on ram?
wrong company.
BFG was the smart one that paird up with DD
eVGA paired up with that crap of a company called innovotek. And got chewed out by me and a lot of other water people for picking a stupid partner.
Black Pearl which was corrosion nightmare = eVGA + innovotek.
The middle hole is the important one.
Do the ram and gpu lign up. Thats the question.
U can always tap the block to make the holes. That isnt the issue.
THe issue is does the block sit flat with the ram and core.
All the companies are participating in and enjoying the N00b-fication of the computer market with reckless abandon.
OCZ, in all its wisdom, moved from copper channels for it FleXXX ram to all aluminum, complete with aluminum four way splitters.
Its a huge market of TT/Koolance/Zalman users out there. Even Swiftech has all but abandoned the high end market for all-in-one minature N00b kits.
see this doesnt make sense.
Its just inviting more problem
This is why i miss Macri and his "idiot factor" theory.
Meaning all companies should assume there customers are idiots and make it easy for us.
Mixing metals is not idiot factor. Thats retarded factor. Inviting us to mix metals.
This is why i dont buy that stupid ram product and i make it a mission to tell everyone not to buy it.
Im sorry i still love my Ballastix and reapers.
But you need to force no sale on an item for the company to realize that THERE THE IDIOTS and have them pull it off.
It really is too bad too, that splitter was a great idea to decrease restriction and the new blocks look good, too bad they dropped the copper, I was going to go with them till I found out about this a while back. Maybe the next version will take them back to copper.
you know what i always wondered.
You know how they work with or without water. I wonder what would happen if you filled it with water or some coolant and sealed it.
I mean otherwise it would be hallow and open and trapped. You guys get what im saying? Its like having a bubble stuck in your radiator.
Would the performance gets worse? or better?
Well, I tried a 3870 EK block on a 4850 and this is the result....
The gpu lines up just fine and sits down well. The RAM sort of lines up....the upper row of RAM chips are perfect in the way they hit but the side line of RAM chips only touch on their outer half....meaning half of the chip sits inside the RAM sink on the waterblock.
As for tapping new holes in the block.....guess that'd work except for the bottom hole, the one below where the aluminum MOSFET cooler attachment screws on. The card's hole is beyond the edge of the block....meaning you cannot tap a new hole there....there's nothing to tap into. So, you can have the 4 screws around the gpu and the two upper holes retapped, but that's about it.
I think it'd be best to wait for a new block........
Also, the 4000 series Radeons will have to be totally new.
They might look very much the same but the only holes that are on spot are those around GPU.
Allready making the 4850/4870 block so you will have to wait just about 10 days ;)
Eddy
The block for the ram will be release for the gtx280 ?
