It's the Xigmatek HDT-S1284 (Achilles)
New design incorporates 4x 8mm pipes in a staggard configuration (something like the TRUE-120).
Note, the S1283 used 3x 8mm pipes.

found this on newegg today, is the SD964. with 4 hp and if mounting s 92mm fan, do you think it will get close to S1283?
Oh great, a better HDT cooler 5 days after I buy the S1283.

I bought the S1283 as an interim before I finish the watercooling project and I must say I'm pretty impressed. Temps are pretty cool and it's not that noisy; a fair price as well. An extra set of cooling pipes can only be a good thing?

I think rifle bearing is where they put rifling into the axle, which in turn causes it to act like corkscrew, moving oil constantly around the axle. It's supposed to solve the problem of sleeve bearings being mounted horizontally. Check it out on wikipedia.Quote:

The one thing I'm worried about is because the heatpipes are staggered, the HDT is stagger as well.
But Xigmatek is definitely refreshin, pushing for the top spot. When will we see 6 heatpipe HDT? : P

Frostytech is strange. They have a TRUE being beaten by a TRU
They used two different fans, one they couldn't find the specs for.
My 1283 experience has it 6c better than a freezer7 pro......pretty good but not the worldbeater some reviews have claimed.
*Though I may have over-appled the AS5*
1283 not a world beater but a great budget cooler......certainly worth the £18 I paid.

For those cannot read Chinese, basically, no different between S1283 and S1284 with same 120mm fan for E8500 OC 4.0GHz @ 1.328v vcore .

S1284 is not better than S1283, because the surface of the HSI on LGA775 CPU's can't cover the hole cooler surface. It covers 2,1/2 pipes, for example http://www.overclockers.ru/images/la...xk_thermob.jpg
That is not exactly the S1284 surface (D1284's), but the size is the same.

As the Q6600 has almost biggest TDP of the CPUs and the Xigmatek S1283 is almost the best air cooler (well the TRUE is still better) it is ok to use them together. You can always go for TRUE with a good fan but the Xigmatek cost like half of itQuote:

Does anyone know when the Xigmatek HSF will be available in Australia?
Also, what would be the realistic buy price.
The disadvantage of being on the "other side of the world" is not the price we can get the goods from overseas (exchange rate), but the horrific cost of postage, etc.
For example, this Cooler could cost more in postage to be delivered to me from USA or Europe, than the cost of the cooler itself.
(Just a winge!)
Since I will be using an E8400 CPU, the S1283 is probably just as good and possibly cheaper and definitely available now in australia.

Love how the two heatpipes in the edges won't really touche the CPU, and thus are rather "useless" there. Sure the heat transfers from the plate the are soldered to, but the whole "direct touch technology" is being wasted by some 35% there. Great job. Other than that it seems good overall, but not really an improvement nor a new king.
There's a new review out on the Xigmatek Achilles S1284 HDT CPU Cooler, and it appears that it's good... but not that good. It's compared to the TRUE, Vendetta 2, and HDT-S1283.

Good idea. It's not a bad cooler, so long as you want more fashion than function, but it's got some flaws. The Crossbow mounting system was used for all coolers, even the HDT-S1283.Quote:

Based on the 2 reviews I have read, I think that the new achillies is really meant for a larger die CPU, possibly an AMD. But its staggered heat pipes and the thick Aluminium strips between them, waste a good percentage of cooling capacity if you stick this HSF cooller on a Intel E8400 CPU, as I will be doing.
Therefore, I think the S1283 is actually a better product for the E8400.
What do others think?
