I was thinking the exact same thing. We are talking ownage here, the differences are insane in some titles...

What will happen with "proper" drivers??

i would like to see what a better cpu can do a qx6850 with 3ghz isnt enough to load the ati card, but this would also mean that the NV card would have the new controller that dosnt need to go to the NB for gpu to gpu transactions, and the striker 2 might be ocing the gx2 so that would need to be checked also

Those scores seem crap. 2x 88 GT SLI beats it. And whats up with all those 0 in 4xAA tests. I stand corrected even 9600 GT SLI beats it.

Those scores are due to the game not loading AA probably / driver crash

And the 3dM scores are at 2560x1600..

GX2 is just a bandaid till GT200. And as soon as the GT200 is out, sli support goes down the tubes. Not worth the trouble, imo.

What I only see is problems plus more problems. On teh other side X2 looks runing every games and every hardware.

Pay 600 euros to see problems and corruption in games :rolleyes:
On the 3870X2 side you pay 350 euros and get more stable and free problems drivers.

And 3870X2 was benched in one Nvidia 780i board and not on one X48 Intel board.

he isn't saying gt200 won't have sli... what he is saying is that the 9800gx2 will stop being developed for after gt200 comes out, which is exactly what happened with 7950gx2 after g80 came out.. it would be foolish to buy this card unless you're just getting test hardware, it is ominously at a similar point in time as the 7950gx2.

wow, just because early drivers don't work very well on x48 chipset boards doesn't mean that they won't work at all. I think that the fact that the card isn't released yet makes the fact that the cards work at all pretty amazing. Still waiting for officially released cards and officially supported drivers before I get my panties in a bunch.

The 174.51 drivers resolve some stability issues. There is a multi GPU check box in the nVidia control panel so it doesn't work as a dual card out-of-the-box so to speak. And yes, it is beaten by GTS 512 SLi, GTX SLi, 9600GT SLi and 8800 SLi (largely because it uses an 8xPCI-E bus internally) but slightly (see what I did there?) better than 3870x2. I haven't tested it on an non nVidia board but I am guessing that if they make the (currently non GX2 exclusive) drivers SLi capable then there is a good chance that this can easily hacked to allow SLi support for non GX2 cards.

I saw 174.51 for 64bit and 174.40 for 32bit that enhances 9 series GFX performance Tweaktown will redo the review to get some hopefully better scores lol... 9800GTX I like in general, 9800X2 seems so so

and yet again a review with a 3ghz CPU... think these cards scale very well with the CPU... so better CPU more FPS...

But this note from them is nice so they are on the new driver already and prolly redoing the review :

Last minute add: I just performed a run of Unreal Tournament 3 at 2560 x 1600 and received an average of 90.66FPS which is just below what the HD 3870 X2 scores at 1920 x 1200. That's what we want to see from this expensive card !!!

I didn't see that , did you read another review ? Also on a note you don't buy a 600 dollar card to run at 1280 x 1024... you will run this flat out and both X2 cards will spank GT at those resolutions... and drivers are not fully ready : read the note with the new drivers... review will be redone it's still too early for a final verdict...

2560 x 1600 is somehow useless today.
1920 x 1200 is much more used.

Lets see the new driver then, but ATI drivers look much better then Nvidia ones. Nvidia is not doing the homework.
And if pay 350 euro for HD 3870X2 is not the best choice, the 550 euros for 9800GX2 are somehow very useless.

That's what we need!

Be sure to OC them all, no one cares about stock speeds... don't know why this isn't part of every review :confused: especially considering the overclocking potential of some of the g92 cards.

Are you :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing kidding? Have you even bothered to look at or try an x2? Read some forum threads from x2 owners and see all the corruption complaints. Crossfire is notorious for having issues guy.

From my understanding in that review they were using one gpu since SLI was not enabled for the other GPU to work in conjunction.

That would appear to indicate what others have thought......one would need an Nforce board to run with both gpu's enabled,(for the sake of using SLI) which is the whole point of the card.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

So, if you have to enable SLI within the drivers, then when did Intel chipsets allow for SLI ;)

*On Gigabyte X48, the R680 had no problem running through all tests. But the 9800 GX2 could only pass 3DMark06 on the very same board. Running any other games would results in errors, or worse, BSoD. Since we know from the previous test that SLI needs to be enabled for maximum performance, yet Intel chipset based boards do not support SLI, we might be looking at a compatibility issue here.*

Anyone else think that Nvidia is trying really hard to give us SLi with this card on intel chipsets without giving us SLi for any other cards? I think that we may finally see some people able to hack drivers to get SLi on intel chipsets.

And still very weak scores for one 550 euros card vs 325 euros card.

It cost mor 225 euros and loses to the cheaper one in most cases. The cheaper one also in single PCB and suport more features in hardware and in drivers.

We have to admit that the HD 3870X2 is a good design for the type of card that it is.

I wouldn't say the design is poor, but rather that ati should have done more modifications to the rv670 die before releasing it rather than a straight die shrink, that's one reason why g92 was so successful

I was talking about Single PCB in 3870X2, not the core.

But those modifications that you are talking are close. RV770 is set to release in 2/3 months.

Ehh, from what I've heard the RV770 will only have 50% more shaders and double the tmus, not quite what I had wanted to hear. That will make a decent difference, but I'd rather hear about fixing the shader clock issue or better yet making a die more optimised for today's games instead of hoping ati the entire gaming industry will change their coding for their r600 design (perhaps if they had launched their card before the r600 and it was more powerful, that might have happened, but not with the way things are going currently)

In the end, I'll just be waiting to see what will be the better deal a 4870 or a g92 gts for $200 (they're extremely cheap now, no reason not to get one except perhaps the 4870 will be around the same price but offer more performance)

Could you also slap that on an old p35 board pls.? Some of us are itching to know if it worcks at its full potential on intel chips ( in a p35 vs. NF790i kind of mudd-fight!)

What? You know how much corruption the GX2 has? How?

And why would the GX2 have any more corruption due to multi-gpu than G80 sli or G92 sli? I haven't seen many complaints about NVIDIA sli corruption lately so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

They were both tested on the same driver, and are therefore completely bogus reviews.

Oh god, did I just read TweakTown that they said the GX2 > X2 in HL2?

Can they read their own graphs at all?

nvidia seems to be doing a bunch of bed favours for TweakTown. In fact, it's gotten to a point where I can't even read a review without being thoroughly disgusted by all the bias going on, especially [H] and tweaktown. Just plain disgusting.

Whats interesting is that the drivers they are using to test this are not using SLi on the 9800GX2, so its just using one core and keeping up with the X2? *points and laughs*

They said in XP.... their review graphs were in Vista, so their review was totally misleading, since the drivers don't work properly in Vista. Re-read it, if anything they are overly critical of NVIDIA when they are testing with a driver that isn't meant to be used with the product...

Did you even read how harsh the conclusion is?

if you want to use GX2 and GPUz you need special build from techpowerup forum ... in that will be GX2 pictured correctly!

No need to get wound up Warboy, seems there are a few ATI fanboys ( no need to give names, they perfectly know who they are) here enjoying themselves with posting things without owning the card or reading and not being able to understand the initial reviews, they got prolly nothing else better to do... let them be... they are not worth it... as they will not listen anyway...

Again I'm not defending the card but let Nvidia release it first and then we will see how the real reviews point out the performance...

He just is comparing facts v_rr, that the new cards still need some tinkering on the driver side nothing more nothing less... and that it still has issues enabling both GPU's... I'm looking forward to OBR's review as it will compare the cards but some will complain again that he will run the 3870X2 on the 790i...

GX2 + X38 Express

PS. I am playing with this card third day for review, i made lot of tests in many games ... wit AA AF, without AA AF and NO PROBLEM at all on Intel X38 Express chipset! Card is stable like a hell on Maximus Extreme (i tested primary on this mobo) ... many hours of testing without any crashes ... great stable drivers and fully working SLI ...
