that first one has a hideous heatpipe system.
I detect Epic fail for Asus. I really hope 780i runs cooler then 680i because if not, thems heat pipes gonna heat up dems graphics cards.
The 2nd motherboard, AMDs AM2, Looks like someone shat a heatsink on that thing.
Nooooo stop the heat pipe crap!!! :(
whats the second baord, how is that second board a ROG? it has 2 mem slots not even 5.1 audio and 1 pci-e slot with 2 pci slots on a full size atx board....
"New G-SURF365?"
AHH take it away it burns my eyes!!!! ewwww yuckkkkk
(In reference to the new striker) Why on earth cant we go back to neat little COPPER (not copper anodised aluminium) heatsinks with nice little fans that run nice and cool. Why must these companies keep pumping out these stupid heatpipes which any overclocker will rip off before they first boot, and have to put good quality after market heatsinks, or liquid on anyway.
Edit: At a second glance (it hurt) I notice that second board has room for two dimms. Therefore I beleive that is to be a value motherboard for barebone PC's. It also might appear to have on bord GFX, either way, its far from "xtreme" Actually I don't see a VGA port, god knows what that other port is though.
jeez asus... rog board with two ram slots and one pci-e slot? ROCK ON!! seriously, I mean way to completely discredit what was already a marketing gimmick... Anyways, why aren't they listening to the people they're marketing the boards towards when we say we don't want heat pipe lolercoasters? hell, I'd be happy with a motherboard that only has a southbridge cooler, and let us take care of the rest...
wtf is that big red port on the G-SURF365?
I hope nobody will buy these.
That ROG looks like a $30 mobo!
Cheap plastic connector, bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: heatsink and VERY little connectivity, the IO ports & spacing looks like a joke.
Looks like ROG Extreme Value not Enthusiast :(
the huge heatsink for integrated graphics?
lets just hope asus doesnt put any EPU garbage on it.....might be my next board
omg another would be overpriced c r a p
Pos.
Striker II Formula listed (obviously not in stock):
http://sklep.henwar.pl/index.php?s=prodd&i=37178
966zł = 390 US$
lol
D.F.I Heatpipe FTW:woot:
That AM2 board looks ridiculous.
Worst usabilty ever...
Se only one reason to go for this board for my part, that is IF it do very well/better than X38 with yorkies(witch i doubt at the moment) D9E also have to take to long time to arrive so i have to get like 8800GTS G92 SLi to game on the "on the wantedlist" 30" WS-screen.
Othervice i just lower my expectations way to mutch if buying this board or even chipset since it is still just a old crappy 680i with added PCIe 2.0 chip and Nehalem is not that to far away and some money must be saved for GOOD 4GB+ DDR3 to.
wtf :shakes: that G-SURF365 looks fugly. what did they smoke? full-atx mainboard with only three slots? *shakeshead* that's what I'd expect on a mATX mobo...
those boards look really really cheap
that heatsink on the Striker II Formula is pretty large.. the heat output must be quite big on that chipset.
what in god's name is the G-SURF365 ?!?!?!
Striker II Formula listed for 268,90 @ Germany (http://www.hpm-computer.de/product_i...-Formula.html).
Bit expensive if you ask me but, if it supports Yorkfield + SLI and is a reliable board like the current Striker it´ll be my next board probably. Hope there will be some reviews and some more good 780i boards till January.
you know it amazes me how naive people can be by looking at the layout of a board...its crap because it looks crap...LOL come on you guys!!!
That AM2 board could be 8 layer, totally designed to push CPU and ram to silly clocks...you just don't know.
you have to realize boards may sometimes look ugly, but if the design is 100% for overclocking who gives rats @ss as long as it performs
Yeah the new ROG boards must mean (Republic Of Ghetto)...
They look.....
I can't even explain how ugly they look
Any ideas on a USA release date?
 :ROTF: The name! The looks! I can't stop laughing, i bet my dog hold draw a better looking board with his two paws! :ROTF:

What's your impression of ASUS Republic of Gamer series? duluxe package? large amount of accessories? or pretty board design? The G-SURF365 certian will break your impression. It is only a low end nforce 630a mobo. It so weird that Asus would risk their brand to release the low end mobo.
Being a low end mobo it have limited numbers of slot: only have two PCI plus one PCIe, two standing DDR2 slot and one AM2 CPU slot. The biggest selling point of this mobo is its G-Guardian system.
G-Guardian actually is a protective system made with plastic. And extreme user won't think it is interesting.
G-Gardian have two parts: Memory and I/O:

thief with screwdriver can easly unlock it..

Here it is, the I/O part of G-Guardian, it will lock your keyboard and mouse.

actually only a scissor can break this protection

asus sucks anymore:down:
/end slander
G-Surf looks good by me, it can be good cheap OC mobo for Phenoms ...
Both boards are hideous...but really I don't care that much about how they look. Just the same when I look to replace my current nForce frankenchip board to run a quad I won't be buying nVidia's 680i+ 45nm quad core fix...er 780i...TYVM.
when is the striker II supposed to hit shelves????
For lanparty goers, layout counts a lot not just performance. :D
so I take it that slot above pci-e slot0 is the OEM audio card slot, and not a pci-e 1x slot? that urks me about Asus boards because I like my pci-e 1x RocketRaid controller.. grr.. and the pci-e 1x slot is always burried behind pci-e slot0, right where you can't reach it with a 2 slot video card.. anyways..
aside from that, still waiting for an all SATA board with no IDE ports.. iz want morez sata! :D
I'm not quite understanding the GSURF-365. It's a crappy budget mobo labeled with the ROG branding, a giant (ultimately useless) heatsink, and 2 RAM slots? Also, what the hell did Asus do to the board layout on the AM2 board? There are barely any damn traces on that PCB.
Edit: read Tony's post, but not buying it. ;) No 7 channel onboard audio, no dual gigabit, no eSATA? Even if it is solely for overclocking, that is one barren board.
what a strange bunch of people in this thread
who cares what the mobo looks like. Since when do we have beauty pageants here
GAR why do you not like EPU.....it sounds like a good idea
So, wait, it's a low-end NF630a based mobo, but it's branded with the Republic of Gamers logo? What the hell? The name even implies it'd be best suited for a basic web SURFING machine.
:shakes:
Are you guys sure its ATX, it looks like mATX to me. Then it'd make a lot more sense IMO
It's ATX--look at the mounting holes--it has the standard setup for a full ATX board. Anyways--they could have saved everyone a ton of money and cut the size of the heatsinks to about... half of what we see (I realize both SB and NB are under it--but do they really need everything inbetween?). They wasted four expansion slots for a huge heatsink... adding probably $30 on the ticket price.
Hey dinos....the reason why i dont like it is it caused problems with quads at certain fsb/voltage..........when you load prime 95 with the maximus formula it wouldnt load the cpu 100%, also the voltages fluctuate too much on the maximus.....im not sure its the EPU or not, but most of us thought it was.
WTF, damn.
From owning both the crosshair (great), striker (LOL), I always thought the "ROG" branding was dumb, this proves it.
Does anyone know for certain what the release date is for the 780i series? I read somewhere that is was after December 19th, is that accurate?
Was it not delayed until january due to Yorkies issue?
it was delayed in November. Till December 12 or 19
Don't care how it looks though layout and some featres are important. Give me a review with performance/oc/temp/BIOS options and compatibility or we're clueless about it.
no problems here
http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x...me_resized.jpg
good god. That heatsink is retarded. 780i must be one hot ass chip. I can't believe they'd even think of releasing that. After you upgrade from this mobo, you can recommission it as a space heater.
any ideas as to us release date?
That surf b0ard is wICkeD Dude!
Overclocking it should be like taming a shrew.
plenty people have asked but i don't think anyone has answered, any idea as to when this board will come out?
new battle has begun - human vs striker II formula
most of us will loose, some will win
santa claus had rude idea to gave us this motherboard LOL... but if you like to torture yourself - i do - go along this river...

wOoOoOoOoW It's shiney.
"Most will loose" lol.. Yer it could be a battle, but like I found with the 680i, once you come to understand one another the results can be rewarding. Use the memory bandwidth, but don't go looking for the flaws, because they're everwhere, and bite hard.
I've touched my NB when I first had CPU on liquid and not the NB and it burnt my finger about 10 minuts after boot of doing absolutely nothing.. They really do need aftermarket cooling. But how are you supposed to do something where the IO panel with the mosfet cooler is.
G-SURF365 heatsink reminds me of detergent bars
lol @ 2nd board. The chipsets have ~20W TDP and Asus put half a kilo of metal there.
"Bridge Core Voltage?" What is that? New/higher CPU VTT is a nice touch.
Based on what we see here I would imaging that Asus' version of the 790 chipset must be nice. :stick:
the only question I have is does it light up like the striker extreme..... I'm a sucka for blue lights
ROG logo and Voltminder diodes onboard can be disabled in bios.
what is under little heatsink with asus logo?
SB temp. is close (around 65 celcius degrees) to Striker II Formula predcessor - Striker Extreme, but NB is a little bit colder... good good, not so many MB will overheat in classical AC cooled systems.
What's good - it's FSB - with Yorkfield CPU it's stable up to 450MHz which is very nice :) At least comparable to reference nF780i boards.
Wolfdale, Conroe & Kentsfield driven CPUs - we did not checked it yet. But for dual-cores it should be ~520MHz.
It's definitely board, not CPU, as those babies we have are known to work around 490 MHz on intel-based motherboards.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/4...al21tm3.th.png http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3...al22sp4.th.png http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6...al23wa6.th.png http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6...al23wa6.th.png http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4...al26vb4.th.png
Memory bandwidth is really good, but is hard to push it higher than 1000 5-5-5 atm. MB would not POST over it before clrcmos... 1t/2t works fine, like with first Striker Extreme.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8...al24ut9.th.png http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/1...al24pw8.th.png
Disabling cores from bios works fine too.
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8...coredc0.th.png
And sth really funny, which wasn't seen earlier - BIOS wallpaper :].
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/5...3662ud2.th.jpg
And another suprise - with 0501 BIOS, N/2 multi works, but with latest 0702 - not.
I really think so many posts here which are irrelevant, jeez guys if we judge boards by the way they look and not by performance, not even have a clue what the board is in fact about... seems to me some Asus haters just post absolute nonsense... would be nice if we could stay on topic and get some progress on the performance and why these boards were designed... for us to torture them !!! and not to read through a 500 post topic with 400 usuless posts... seems a loss of time to me...
Striker formula looks better than Striker, too bad they didn't include a fuzion block on this one ( to nibble of some important degrees ) that would have been fab !! keep it going pmp !!
Striker II Formula looks like Striker Extreme should be one year ago :)
looks promising!
If it's still the old copper plated stuff it won't weigh much... and you are judging a board by it's looks, not how it performs or what it is designed for... I don't nag about the gigabyte's united colors of benetton scheme... if the board delivers that's what it's all about...
Thats what I thought, or as school systems or something, where little brats have a tendancy to take RAM home (I'm not joking either sadly)...
While I still don't like the idea of this new heat sink design for the striker II (mainly because it almost looks impossible to put after market waterblocks or something on) with any luck it might actually work alot better than the 2 previous 680i boards from asus.
I've been following this thread for a while...this board is now listed on the ASUS Global site.
They are starting to have way to many left field innovations where motherboards are concerned, and I don't think its just ASUS. Like why the hell would you want to "step up" to the next processor, when anyone who can use the basic settings in the BIOS can just make their processor scream much faster than that?
Theyre make way to many "easy" overclock solutions instead of just incuding a manual or link to a website that explains how to overclock you PC and manually get the best preformance out of it.
I also sure as hell hope that the Supreme FXII is alot better than the first one.
I think like the previous Striker the best to features for an overclocker is the switch so you dont have to pull out your battery or jump the pins (which is a pain in the bum where mines located behind my pump)
And I also like the OC profiles. I have one for summer and one for winter where I can get away with higher settings and frequencies because its much colder. (Being summer and my room has no air con I wouldn't even turn my PC on today 42 degrees celcius, but being in a bungalo the PC really heats it up quick, so I'd expect about 46 if PC was on)
I just hope they get the bios sorted out so we can get some yorks overclocking well enough on the to make them a worthy 3d Benchmarking contender.
