Celeron 430 @ 3ghz vs FX-57 @ 3160mhz , the new Celeron rocks
-
What would you say are the effects of DDR2 and P35 verses the FX-57 system?
At any rate nice performance for a $54 chip on the stock cooler verses $400+ chip (if you can find it) on water cooling.
-
the P35 is not fast as i975X or 680i but Gigabyte/Celly will beat DFI/FX-57 in games and compressions.
what to say? the old A64 needs more clock and AMD needs Phenom :)

sry, i edited the post ,its not only water is water + ice

well, a conroe's a conroe, isn't it?
;)
thanks for the comparison.

So the new celerons are really good.
Thanks

my friend that celeron is just begging for extreme cooling.. bring on the LN2.

Thanks for sharing PcCI2iminal.
You're as always "The Man" for us "budget clockers" with all your comprehensive testing of cheap iron. :)
One 440 ordered today.. <hnngg>. :D
PS.
Who would think a little over a year ago that a "celly" would whoup "FX ass". :)

Tried fsb wall on this?
I will get celly 420 today with 8x multi

Still very nice for a cheap chip, it is enough on air :) My 420 does 8x340 so far all stock. I am also testing new Asrock 1333 mobo but 945 is not so good for oc since I have to raise PCI-E freq > 120. But some user got it up to 420fsb. Need ATA HDD or PCI sata card :)
-
Ordering one of these now. I can't resist. With my Biostar P35 board coming tomorrow, this comes to $165 for the combo. Amazing!

-
Of course a conroe is a conroe, but a Celeron compared to a e6320 for example is no much.
The 3ghz on here is nothing compared to a PROPER conroe.
-
I'm pretty sure this thing can do A LOT more than 3.0ghz. It's a single core, probably runs WAY cooler, has less cache...that spells a dang good OC. While the performance obviously won't match a "real" conroe, I think this thing will be an absolute blast to play with.
This little chip has no idea what's about to hit it :)
-Collin-
-
I have a 430 incoming too, will post results here soon! :)
Are this new celerons based on a real single-core design, or maybe just one core or something disabled?

I was going to ask the same thing. Seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth for Intel to completely design a Celeron from the ground up like that. Maybe it's a dual core with one core disabled? That would be a first.
-Collin-

Are those celerons (430,440) supported by chipsets such as 915P and the 925X? After all they only use a single core, very much like the celeron Ds.
Sorry for the OT D-:

I doubt it, as they use the architecture of the core 2 duos. Hmm, then again, it's not a chipset limitation, but a limitation of the motherboard power regulation. I think any core 2 duo board will support these, but nothing else. I don't think the two chipsets you mentioned will though. A few generations too old.

Recieved my stuff today! I just install windows atm, results later. :)

If they could hit 550FSB these could be fun chips, just throw 2 volts at them for the hell of it :D
-
muahahaha ordered my self a 440 celly yesterday.. im so gonna torture the living bejesus out of that chip.. i hope to hit over 3.1ghz with water. wish me luck ;)
-
woot, at least some fun stuff happening!!! way to go guys! waiting on some results
-
Yeah, I think that is really cool to that with the new Celerons like that, but beating an FX-57, wow. I find it interesting how similar the overclockable Celerons of today compare with the OCable Cellys of yesteryear. Compare this Celeron the to the Tualatin Celerons of five years ago:
Both P6 Core Based
Both have half the Cache of their Pentium Counterpart (Either PIII-S or E2xxx)
Both of them have massive OC potential
Both of them when OCed beat out CPUs that nobody thought they would (Pentium4(A), FX-57)
Both of them were a tremendous value in their day.

Some results:
Prime -
3000MHz stock Vcore
3300MHz ~ 1.37V
SuperPI 1M -
3420MHz 1.43V 19.861s
It seems that this CPU has a FSB limitation at ~ 385MHz, can't reach 35xxMHz.

I don't think that idea comparing dualcore vs singlecore would be any good. Otherwise in superpi it should be about as fast as E6700.
Celeron are always great clockers because of less cache, less heat and this seems to be great chip for budget gaming system.

Asus p5b, Celeron 420, Patriot 1 gb 800mhz, cant get over 320 fsb, can anyone help me.

I got a Conroe-L ES 2.8GHz 1MB a couple months ago and what I noticed that it clocks very well one some boards and on other boards not good at all. I have no idea if thats a general problem for the Conroe Celerons or if the ES is troublesome.
On a Asus P5B-E Plus (same as P5B Deluxe) I hit a FSB wall at exaclty 266MHz on all multipliers from 6 to 14. Furthermore, voltage was wrong all the time. Setting something like 1.6V in bios resulted in 1.38V measured. On a Abit Quad GT I could not boot using that CPU for whatever reason.
Then I tried a Gigabyte 680i board and its behavior was completely different. FSB wall at 410Mhz and completely stable vcore. It was rockstable for running WCG (folding app) at 1.4375V set in bios with 3550MHz. Max I tested on air was 1m stable at 3910Mhz with 1.575V set in bios.
Unfortunately I only had the 680i board for a few days. After that I wanted to try to test the CPU on watercooling on a Asus P5W DH Deluxe and guess what, it was making trouble again. Vcore was very very unstable. Setting 1.45V in bios resulted in a Vcore between 1.3-1.5V. With other CPUs on the same board, its stable within +-0.01V. It overclocked like crap, which I think is because of the fluctuating Vcore. I will test the CPU on P35 as soon as I have a board.
Maybe Intel fixed some of those issues, but could not complete fix them, which might explain different behavior on different chipsets with the Celerons.

good to know about that issue,i just have tested on P35 and the new Celly flies on Bearlake
i will test my Celly on R600 and i will share all the results with you guys :)
R600 is not friendly with Celeron D ->top FSB is around 225
and i hope it works well with the new Celly

My 440 seems to be FSB limited, not clockspeed limited. In two boards I can do 330-340x10 but then no post, even with the CPU multi to the minimum (x6).
Is there any known cure for this?

Anyone know if there any modded bios for Asus p5b to change the multi.

It to you with a p5b deluxe and a 6400 in him. ..com some kingston 667 micron d9hnl.... entao with himself estavel 8x400 with 1.462v (in the windows) of vcore and memos @800 5-5-5-15...
I obtained to a lot cost put @8x425...mas I had q go up a lot the voltages... (nb@1.45 and fsb@1.65, vcore@1.502 in the windows) ...e even so freezes at the right moment in application 3D.. absence go up more correct voltage? ...e vc would know say me which the dependable limits pras voltages in the dia-a-dia?? pq same aki in the XS ninguem looks to know. ..pq I and others ja we ask her in the topico official of the mobo and ninguem answered

lol....the translator u've used did not translate some words...:P
translated:
hi criminal, can u give me a hand?
i know it's off topic, but:
i have a p5b deluxe with an e6400 and 2gb kingston 667 (w/ chips micron d9hnl) and i can reach 8x400 with vcore = 1.462v (reported by everest in windows) and the memory @800 5-5-5-15
it was a hard duty, but i could finally reach 8x425, but to do so i had to increase the voltages a lot (nb@1.65, fsb@1.45, vcore@1.502 - windows) and even tough the system freezes under 3D applications...
i need to increase the voltages, right? and would u know what the safe limits for the voltages for 24/7 use? me and other users have asked it on p5b's topic but no one has answered.

I had orthos run for 1 hour without fails.
Dunno if the temp sensor in this CPU is borked, my E6600 idled at 25C (stock) with the same cooler... this one idles at 43C at 1600MHz (stock).

Very nice, I think I will get one of these for a HTPC now rather than a 2140... dual loop water cooling system in a Lian Li G50. They seem to have a very low heat output so a single 120.1 should be plenty :D

i got a 420 and it wont clock higher than 2.4ghz. no matter what volts i guess my board sucks. refurbed msi p6n.

I have a 420 and the best I can do is 400x8 (3.2GHz)
I have tried al the way up to 1.5v and it just won't do greater than 405 stable.
It only needs 1.35v for 3.2GHz on air (AC Freezer 7 Pro which sits at 42c full load)
Fsb wall?
I am using a GA-P35-DS3L.
And my Multiplier option is LOCKED!
