Ah ok well maybe PortCitySlim got a bad board. I wont know till next week how mine fares, really hoping better than the P5Q-E I have.

There is a bug on the 2:40b strap that wont let you boot with 2 sticks of 2Gb above 1.4vmch set in Bios (some can go higher some lower).
You can use 2:40B strap as long as your Vmch in bios is around 1.40v. You can change that thru ET6 later if needed.
So try to boot 1066 with 2:40b strap and low Vmch then report back.
ok guys. finally got my stuff yesterday.
first let me say how much this thread has been a help to me. THANK YOU ALL Jor3lBR especially. im positive that i wouldnt have done it as easily without this. i couldnt be more happy.
after some minimal tweaking i was able to get to 445x9 @ 1.23v windows 1.26 bios (LLC enabled). ran prime last night for 8 hours strong, but at the start of the 8th hour cores 2 & 3 had rounding errors. no biggie. probably not enough mch voltage, or the advanced timings on my ram.
i was getting kind of greedy i guess, when i was trying 4.25ghz and 4.5ghz... it would post at both, but i was only able to get into windows @ 4.25, but then it locked up. im pretty sure i can do both, obviously i gotta keep going. but thats why i came here!
i know what you're thinking, post a bios template. well im at work right now and wont be able to do that until i get home (my memory is not that extensive) BUT DONT WORRY, so, until then....
oh and i thought LLC was supposed to compensate for vdroop? well, actually, i think it was worse with it disabled. yeah, everything @ stock (1.2vcore) bios reads 1.17
oh well im not complaining even my temps are great...during the prime test my peak was 50C (ambient ~17C) :D
Hi does any1 know if the swiftech MCW30 chipset water block will fit on the UD3R board?
if the ud3r has the same NB spacing and mounting wholes as the ud3p then it will not fit or only with bent screws. i think some had posted a picture about his bent screw earlier in this thread. i am also looking for a NB block and so far i am looking at the EK NB/SB 5. it's measurements should accommodate either board as it has 64.5mm whole spacing accoss.
here, i found the post with pic

Hey guys, thought I'd chime in. I've been out of the OC game for a long time now, pretty much since my Athlon XP build 5 or so years ago..
For now I'm stuck with the stock Intel HSF and 2GB Kinston VR. I just picked up my UD3R V1.1 along with me E7400 last night, and these are my results so far...
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/2051/oc400x9.jpg
I'm still trying to familiarize myself with C2D and S775 and DDR2, so I'm not really trying anything hardcore yet. I'm planning on picking up a True ASAP, along with the best bang for your buck DDR2. I'd appreciate any feedback, tips, or suggestions that you gurus may have to offer!:D
I do have a few questions, though. Firstly, is the temperature difference normal for my CPU at these settings using the stock Intel HSF with AS5? what should my max temp threshold be? This is my first Intel build, but with my AMD rigs I'd get nervous past 60C. Also, has anyone had any experience with KVR 667? I think it's got Qimonda 2.5 chips on it, I'll verify later if it's worth it lol... I'm guessing I won't get much feedback on that RAM around these parts.
Edit: 78C was just a spike for some reason, CPU is averaging 69-70C full load and idles at 42C
temps are ok, considering that it is a stock HSF. i assume the system is not loaded at this time. i would not recommend to let the temps go beyond 60c for extended periods of time. you can expect your temps to jump up 10-15c when loaded and depending how you load it.
with and aftermarket cooler i would say you can drop your temps by 5-10c depending on which cooler you decide to go with and the fan used.
Can anyone tell me the difference between Normal and Auto in bios?
In case anyone searches on this in the future, I finally figured this out. I got an RMA'd board, but this time I built it on my desk first instead of in the case. The new board liked my RAM so I'm thinking problem solved, and mount the new board in my HTPC case. Then the same problems start again - it only works with 1 DIMM! Now I'm thinking it has something to do with the mounting in the case, maybe a short... looking from the edge I can see the board flexing under the middle and right , and apparently this affects the memory. Note that this case mounts the board horizontally unlike probably 90% of enthusiast users who will mount vertically in a tower case, where board flex is much less of an issue.
So I take the board out, mount 100% of all the risers that the case has room for (before I had 6 riser screw/nuts in place afterwards like 12-15). Now I put the board back and blammo - problem solved. It likes every pair of DIMMs I own again. Case closed (literally) - it wasn't just the board after all - be wary if you mount this board horizontally.
heres a question guys. should i go with one of the UD3 P45 boards to replace my X38 DQ6? i picked up a Q9650 and im having a helluva time overclocking to 4ghz. the reason i think my board isnt cooperating is because i can do 3.8ghz on stock voltage (1.2375v) for 10 minutes running small fft's on prime95. (i know 10m P95 isnt crap, but thats how i scale up to find my max overclock before i do a 12 hour P95 run) i couldnt get it to 4ghz with 1.325v, so out of frustration, i went for 1.4v to get it "stable"
think an EP45 UD3R would help me out?

so thats where im at right now. the only things i changed when i was trying 4.25ghz and 4.5ghz was the FSB and vcore. whad'ya guys think?
Is anyone here running a second GPU dedicated to PhysX on a EP45 UD3P? I'm using a P5Q-E and once I put the second GPU in I start getting random crashes and BSODs. I've got an 1100 watt Power Supply so I'm thinking it's a board issue. My EP45 UD3P will be here tuesday but I was looking to see if anyone has issues with 2 GPUs on this board?
Has anyone tried the F8F beta bios for the UD3P?

Thanks man, for the help, but I give up. No offense, but those were the worst settings yet. It was so bad that the bios wouldn't even reset itself like it has everytime in the past. I had to physically clear cmos with the jumper.
It's so strange that these board can be so vastly different. While the settings you gave work for you, but for me not at all. The QA specs that these boards pass in order to ship must be pretty loose.
Anyway, at least I've got my 9x450 which isn't what I wanted but it's totally stable and I can run on it 24/7. The couple of times that I got it up at 442x9.5, I ran Far Cry 2 for a few minutes and got higher frame rates than at 450x9, so I know my 450x9 OC is bottle necking my 4870 X2 a little. But oh well, I'm getting such high frame rates anyway, (over 100 most of the time in FC2 with all settings maxed at 1900x1200), a few more doesn't matter.
So again, thanks for the help, but I'm done.
You know, I could put my 4870 X2 in my P5Q rig that's running at 4.2Ghz and put my GTX 280 in this ud3p rig and then no bottle neck. I dunno, we'll see.
marc
Yes I use LLC. I got to thinking, I havent even ran a full 8+ hour prime run with the ud3p. When I got it I just transfered over my stable settings from the dlx and ran a few short prime runs to tweak them for this board. I figured I might as well make sure these settings are solid so I ran this 10 hour pass today. Those are my full settings for that run. 434 is the highest I have been able boot on 2.40B so I tried playing with the NB voltage to see if it would help. I tried from 1.3 to 1.44 but it didnt make a difference for me.

Thanks tons for the info Jor3IBR! For me this is a no-go. At 470x9 I can not boot at 2.40B/1128mhz regardless of the MCH. I have tried 1.32 up to 1.42 and all of them result in no boot. However, I can boot at 2.50A/1175mhz which is a faster ram speed. I have not fine tuned or stability test the 1175mhz. I can boot at turbo but not extreme so far.
Thanks for those settings! They should help me a bunch even though I think I am going to stick with 470x9 for now. I can still use the VTT/MCH and references for those, since my chip is not quite as good as yours what you have stable at 480 might be perfect for me at 470 with a bit more VCORE.
I do not understand the RAM settings completely yet. I have noticed that at standard and turbo, CPUZ reports a higher timing then what I have set in bios, does the extreme setting actually report the correct timing? Also what does "Driving strength profile" mean and do, if I am running 1100-1200 mhz should I be using the 1200mhz profile? Also since I am used to PL and Clock Twisters I am not sure what "Static T-read" value is, is it the same as the Performance Level setting on the P5Q? Thanks for the help, as soon as I start to relate the RAM settings to what I am use to I should be on my way to ~4.2ghz stable.
ALL you guys rock! Extremesystems is the shizznit!
What timings are you putting in the bios and what is cpuz/memset displaying? I dont know what driving strength profile actually does but I keep it set at the 1066. Im having to stay at 1:1 (964) for now and it wont let me boot at the 800 profile. The static t read is the performance level.
still going....
