Let me restate my statement,
It's time for Nvidia to start making cpu's, LOLOL.
Printable View
more and stronger competition towards intel is better for us. I'm up for seeing nvidia making cpus in the future. hehe. :D
Why not now? :D
Well, I just want a dam fix for my video issues
Sorry for you for the bad experience
wtf, I dont get it why my PC works with 2 raptors? Probably because they are not in RAID?
BTW, Im gonna see how far can I push this CPU :)
The only problem that I have had in my entire life with the SIIE is that I cant watch movies/videos with SLI enabled. Thats it, thats all I need to be fixed so I can have my PC working 100%.
But I never had corruptions or freezes because of my raptors or RAM. Never never never.
Is it the same problem the reference boards had with P04 that is now fixed in P05? ( here ) If so i assume Asus don't have a fix for that yet.
Or is it different?
Well it is in fact the same problem but is not fixed with P05. Only 780i has been fixed with P05p, but 750i/790i users are still with no fix available.
I think P05p is a beta because AFAIK, ASUS does not have a fix and MSI currently has only a beta BIOS available. Thats why some 780i still experience issues with SLI even though they using P05p.
We can just wait...
^_^
To be precise - 780i based Asus boards (P5N-T Deluxe, Striker 2 Formula, P5N72-T Premium) have already alpha BIOS ready.
790i - should be ready by Tuesday.
Just got an SIIE, what BIOS should I load into the board?
CPU: Q9450
RAM: G.Skill DDR3 1600 2x2GB
0704 m8.
Thanks BZ!
I would update S2F thread as soon as it will be possible. Patience is virtue :ROTF:
Some of you may be excited ;-) New build on the way. Should improve CL7 performance :) As usual, beware of flashing from OS. Use DOS/EzFlash2 instead.
ASUS Striker II Extreme build 0801
I can use 1600FSB for my processor now (couldnt on 0704) but now i cant use -58, -64, -64, -58 for GTLrefs, it just wont post.
Still not stable with SLI :(, showed no improvement whatsoever.
Id say as it didnt help my SLI at all, its probably only RAM.
Is there any word on when that will be fixed?
What SLI issues are you talking about guys ?
Are you talking about the video freezes ?
Didn't that occur in single card configurations as well ?
No
Single card=no freezes at all
SLI= freezes when watching videos. No matter what player/codec, BIOS/driver. ~20 after watching videos->beep->restart.
Trying 0801
Idk, but Im experiencing since the very first time I decided to watch a movie with SLI enabled.
Please do m8
BTW, 0801 works the same. No performance increase with 7-7-7-18. Latency went 2 points higher (to 55) and scored the same bandwidth. Video issues still not fixed.
No I havent tried removing the sound card. I dont think is the sound card, I listen music everytime Im using the pc and I never freeze. SLI enabled or disabled, listening music never gave me a freeze. Also SLI enabled while gaming and using the prelude never gave me a freeze.
Why would the sound card cause a freeze while playing a movie?
And No, I havent tried benching w/out the sound card neither. How much did your score increased without the soundcard?
I dont think this is Prelude related because people with Xtremegamers and other cards are also having this freezes.
Im going to give this a last try, going to install 175.80 Beta with 0801 from scratch but Im going to make sure I create an image with Acronis this time. If this doesnt work, I hope tomorrow when I wake up I see a post from pmp saying "new bios 0802 changelog-> fixed isolated video issues" lol!
What m8 does mean?
No Im not
Thanks for the pic.
Just to let everybody know, Im f*cking done with SLI testing, Im so tired that no matter what I try, I always get the same results. Im just done with this until NVIDIA decides to work their @ss off and give us a working BIOS for their DAM SLI board which is the only reason why I bought this board.
Im tired of installing XP multiple times as well as updating it, installing my programs, trying different drivers, BIOS files to experience video freezes no matter what. Im DONE!
I just finished installing XP. I only installed nForce drivers (all), made an Acronis image, installed geForce 175.80, K-lite mega codec pack 3.9.5 and VIDEO FREEZES STILL PRESENT.
Im going to play some CS, install msn and try to relax for a while...
m8=mate, how clever am I, hahaha. I am spanish, and speak a basic english, thanks for your help...
Anybody here has gskill pi modules?
You gave me the greatest bios however Pmp for the original striker (1501 that is) Still runs strong at 450FSB daily with an E8400 ! no more SLI though...
And I second ya statement, some boards are fab out of the box, some will never ever be....
Remind yourself - when it was keeping in mind when nF680i started...
I'm not trying to discourage anybody of using nVidia chipsets, but my belief, now after so much time is that is the only way to push nVidia to create USABLE chipsets - or abandon them at all. It wouldn't be pity...
I started using SLI because of my personal love for large LCD displays, but what it gave me ? A lot of work to do :) Life is too short to spend every night on trying to make nVidia chip stable more or less...
From engineering side - keep in mind that QC of nVidia chipsets - basically sucks. This is the reason one board could be so much better than another one, etc. This also makes BIOS develompent much more complex than you imagine.
I guess this is my last NVIDIA board. Next time, Ill make sure instead of spending $400 on 2 8800GT, I will buy one REALLY GOOD card paired with an Intel chipset. This is it, I cant believe after weeks of getting it estable and no corruptions, I end up with SLI problems. Thats ridiculous.
And Im really impressed you posted that pmp, I thought you were in love with this board and since you normally get BIOS updates constantly...
Just want to ask you (pmp) something before I start looking deeper into Intel boards, was your tuesday release the BIOS 0801 that you gave us today? Because if it is, then I guess Im going to start a revolution demanding NVIDIA for a BIOS that makes SLI work...
I'd abandon this board in a second if someone would release a single card soloution that would drive my 30" to my satisfaction... but since there isn't a sloution like that, I'm f'n stuck with this POS :(
I were. For two years. Frankly, last month i kicked out 3 home PC built on nVidia chipsets. I spent more time with working with them, than on them...
Now, 3 weeks later, i'm happy out there. I could spend my time helping other with this never-ending fight ... but @ home it's better to spend time with family than to get angry because of some sissy nVidia...
I moved my ass to Skulltrail platform, and guess what? No need to do anything :) Everything i set - works...
I moved my 2nd PC for Intel chipset, and guess what? No need to pray!
Maybe nF790i have an advantage over X48 in terms of DDR3 driving and it's SLI capable, but where's the point if almost everything else sucks...
I'm sorry my english is not so good. I didn't understood ?
Get rid of SLI, wait for a GTX 280 and buy it. That should be more than enough (if all this rumors are true about it) for 2560x1600. You should be good with that card. Thats all I can say.
pmp, I wish I could afford skulltrail, (2) QX9775 and a pair of 9800GX2, but I cant.
And yes, Im glad you are saying that because thats what I bought this board for, SLI and why the main feature doesnt work is out of my hands but I can guarantee that next motherboard, the words nForce or SLI wont exist anymore.
To clarify what you didnt understand. Remember when you said this
Quote:
To be precise - 780i based Asus boards (P5N-T Deluxe, Striker 2 Formula, P5N72-T Premium) have already alpha BIOS ready.
790i - should be ready by Tuesday.
Well, according to this, I think you meant a new BIOS would come out (tomorrow tuesday june 10) for 790i fixing this SLI issues, but then you came today and gave us 0801. Is this what you meant? Or should we expect a new BIOS tomorrow that finally fixes SLI issues?
Oh yeah I forgot
I dont know if this has anything to do with my problems, I see it weird cause many people mentioned this. Im not a motherboard expert but does this seem strange? :para:
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5909/irqvn0.th.png
oh god, I just finished opening my tombstone (50+ pounds) and moving my Auzentech to the last slot. Spent like 15 minutes changing slots and moving the PCI brackets around to then come and see what you just posted :para: (if tomorrows BIOS didnt work, I could at least have postponed moving my card to the other slot later tomorrow, oh well)
Well, then what was the point of 0801? No idea whats fixed/improved but I will surely be here tomorrow. Make sure you post it in the morning :p:
I will try my card now in this slot and see if anything good happens. Anyways, I hope NVIDIA did something for their life this time.
I dont understand, if you have 3 8800GTX, where in the world is your X-fi? Unless you have your cards under waterblocks, I dont know whereelse can a PCI card fit...
Could you specify what BIOS you using? Driver? OS?
well i have no probs at all with 8800gtx sli or 9800gx2 sli/quad sli.
Oh well
Changed card to last slot, IRQ is now 17 for the sound card, played a movie and guess what?.... beep lol!
My hopes are now on the new release that pmp is going to bring... if that doesnt work, Im going to be really pissed for the first time on NVIDIA and Im not going to Nsist on Nvidia anymore.
Sorry to that you guys are still having problems over here in the land of the 790i. When I first got this board I loved it the layout is the best. But when one spends this much money on it and can not OC it without problems it get a little frustrating. I really do feel this board will have a REVISION to a second one. And when they get this thing fixed I will be back for sure... My BlackOps seems to be working fine for me now just waiting on the new 4870 X2 to throw in it. Small learning curve in the BIOS other then that very easy. I got my board and was able to get my QX9650 to 4Ghz no problems. Now I am looking for better memory, for my e8400 cpu. Good luck to you all and Slim142 I hope this will work out for you.
Hi all, newbie to the forum but user of the S2E. From reading this thread it certainly is a roller coaster ride with this board. Slim any chance you've tried different vid drivers? Used to have major issues running 175.16 WHQL with this board and 8800gtx SLI, had video troubles and audio snap crackle pops etc. Since then I've uninstalled them and now use 174.74 beta, no problems. Video runs fine no glitches, not to say this board still isn't 100% glitch free. OC seems to be a bit of another adventure. Good luck to us all heh. Take care.
Slim btw forgot to mention my details, QX9650 Vista 64bit SP1 BIOS 704
No prob man, hope you get it sorted out and the rest of us too. Seems from reading on many other forums, it seems to boil down to driver/bios issues rather than a board problems but I'm not an expert. I certainly did find conclusive issues when running SLI with these cards on this board. I use an Auzentech Prelude and once SLI was enabled all hell broke loose, especially with the latest drivers. Once SLI was disabled, all was well go figure. It is a bit frustrating paying top dollar for a motherboard only to find it runs worse than my old 386 at times, especially when I try to OC. Sad really. Guess we just have to either be patient, or else jump on the bandwagon and grab a different board altogether. Wouldn't feel as bad if it was slightly cheaper that is for sure.
Cheers.
I'm getting Lockups at Idle with 0704 and a single video card, I can't figure out what. Damnit.
BIOS 0801 E8500
1882 x 8.5 linked & synced 4ghz rock stable
1902 x 8 " & " "" BSOD, os corrupt.
I can see BSOD, but os should NOT bork!!!!!
Corruption still alive and well.
Great review!!
Alright folks, I'll probably be done with the review in about 12 hours.
After that I'll do some testing in SLI & single card to check out the video freeze issues that you're having.
guys, i have no problem with SLI of Two Ultras with 0704 ... problem is in your settings ...
About freezing in videos - Yes i had it, i lowered CPU clocks and now is everything OK!
Hi All, my first post so i'd like to start by saying thanks for an informative forum. With 0801 I can now run my 4x1Gb sticks of OCZ PC3-16000C9 2000MHz EB at 7-7-7-20-1T running 1760FSB synced and linked. Before it would not boot with a CAS of 7. I find this combination works better and more stable than a higher FSB and a 2T command rate. There are definately holes in certain FSB settings where performance drops off - I guess it is also memory dependant.
Are SLI corruption issues also happening with single 9800GX2 card's ?. I am running an EVGA SSC one with no issues so far but not tried playing videos other than in iTunes. Will try that one tonight.
I guess there is a way to add my specs and settings in the signature file ?.
Has anyone tried tweaking the LDT Multi yet?
P.S. I just got corrupted OS when Trying to boot at 1800mhz on Memory.
Thanks Mackintosh.
Need to work out how to do quotes here
With 0704 bios I would run 1800FSB with 8-7-7-22-30-1T timings and a multiplier of 9 for 4050Hz on my QX9770 C1 stepping. 3d Mark 06 20477 (project ID 6899103) but it was not prime stable. Since changing heatsink from Zalman CNPS9500 to Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and reducing the FSB to 1720 (sorry not 1760 as last post) and a multiplier of 9.5 to give 4085Mhz I am now prime stable. The 3dMark06 dropped to around 19800 but with the 0801 bios and CAS set to 7 it is now 20300+. I have a CM Stacker 832 case with 2 120mm fans installed on the right of the side frame blowing onto the NS,SB and DIMMS.
Nuclearjock - I will post my voltage settings when I get home.
Bios settings are as per attached pics ........ Vdim is 1.9v
Just running benches to see if P1 and P2 enabled makes any difference with this bios but don't expect to see any. Pretty happy with these settings for performance and stability especially with 4x1Gb sticks running 1T with a good CPU overclock on air.
Im going to die... because of this crap
Yes have my cards under water (EK Blocks) and my X-Fi in the lowest slot, a bit bend :D
I use bios 0704 right now, with others there was either no problem .
Driver is always the latest beta that's leaked.
OS=Vista 64 Ultimate
Please do yourself a fever and RMA your board.
Onother thing wich might be interesting, check your cards ID with Nibitor and see if both card have a different ID#
Hi all,
new to this place and what to say...it looks like that bios 0801 works better for me regarding 400x9, it wasn`t stable before but now it looks better.
OMG WHATS WRONG!!!
I installed XP again and when installing nforce, for some reason ethernet drivers wont install, it gets stuck in the middle of the installation. Whats going on?
Is sound card placement crucial when using SLI on this particular board? Using a dual 8800gtx setup with a Prelude X-Fi in the middle PCI slot inbetween the graphics cards. Would placing it in the lowest PCI slot make any difference to avoid any issues?
just installed the 177.26 forceware driver for visitax64 (with modded disp.inf) and and now i'm gaming smooth on my 790I with SLi enabled :)
driver is here ready to install
vistax64 only
i hope they work for you guys
more drivers can be found over at Guru you will need to mod or find your disp.inf for your OS there are more disp.inf modded over at guru aswell
I had problems with mt X-Fi also, what I did was reformat drives and do a clean install and reload creative drivers first before anything else. and I haven't had a problem at all sense. the last driver I installed was my video drivers. seems creative drivers don't like being install after nvidia drivers.
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=373340
To all of us that have a X-FI card and are having lookups in games and crappy sound, maybe worth give this a try:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Creative...load-1944.html
Let´s hope that these fix some issues.
Link doesn`t work, do you mean the new beta driver ?
http://at.europe.creative.com/suppor...ct=0&x=25&y=11
Fixes:
* Resolves issues of intermittent and random application/system crash when playing games or running applications that use EAX®, DirectSound®, OpenAL and/or ASIO features.
* Resolves issue of volume mapping leading to very soft volume level in systems using Windows Vista with Service Pack 1.
* Resolves issue with distortion and noise occuring in systems with 4 GB of RAM or greater.
Altought i´m not quite sure, i think QWIK is right, install X-FI drivers FIRST and install the nvidia video drivers AFTER.
I say this, because i was having issues with sound, and one of the times i´ve done a fresh SO install, i´ve installed F-XI drivers first and then video drivers(i was doing the reverse the other times) and things seem to work much better this way...
These beta drivers doesnt solve crappy sound when sli enabled. Back to 174 too.
Anybody knows if a new bios will be realeased soon? I am planning to sell my striker II and buy a DFI X48 T3RS...
PMP posted a link to a beta bios (0801) on side 33 of this thread which works well for me.
@X-FI users: As i posted before, strange issue, i installed my system as i always do (Windows -> System Drivers - GFX Drivers - X-FI Drivers) and never had a problem with this. But i heard that some ppl got the same problem as you guys on a EVGA 790i.
Ok, I know I said it but this is it. No More NVIDIA chipsets for me until they prove me they finally got their stuff right.
HDD Regenerator ran on my Raptor all night and its 100% in working conditions. Windows XP SP2 installs ok, NOD32 installs, XP SP3 install but whenever I try to install the dam ethernet drivers, it wont, always gets stuck in the middle of the ethernet drivers installation. SMBUS installs as well as IDE drivers but not the ethernet.
I just bought a D-Link PCI ethernet card. DGE-530T 10/20/100/1000/2000 Gigabits network card cause I cant tolerate this BS anymore. XP installed 20 times just to get it stuck on ethernet drivers. Give me a break. Even tried 0801, safe mode, Guru3d driver removal but nothing. If for any reason it installs itself, it will tell me, Cant get connection, limited or nule. Nvidia gave me the hardest time in my life with this and adding the SLI issues, this makes the 790i the worse chipset I ever owned. Ill make sure next time I stick to NVIDIA Gfx cards because I dont want to ever deal with nForce or nTune ever again in my entire life. SLI issues were good enough to feel frustrated, add this to that and we have a useless machine which cant even go to the internet.
I have 0801 with my 2 gbpi gskill, and I am still having issues (bsods). I didnt try to install the second pack, it would cause total unstability...
In fact, there hasnt been a bios release that says "enhance memory compatibility"...
Just would like to see some settings of other Q6600 users to compare them with mine, i finally found a primestable setting for my pretested (1.324V @ P35) Q6600:
http://www.abload.de/img/idlefdk.jpg
The SB+NB voltages might be a bit too high, i will try to put them down a bit (or simply somebody say "yes you can do for sure") Oh yes, Bios 0801.
Still waiting for the miraculous BIOS that will fix SLI
What makes you think that because I have 4 hard drives they might be the reason why my SLI freezes? AFAIK, if I was using Tri-SLI, then yes, the SB might have something related but is all on the NB and my pc is Prime95 25+ hours estable.
Add to this that Im not the only 790i user who is experiencing this. We have Coupa here and thousands in the eVGA forums (this time, Im not been sarcastic like the corruption thing because there are many with SLI freezes)
I dont know if I mentioned this but I also tried with no sound card drivers. Just fresh XP but still SLI freeze in movies/videos.
I just installed the D-Link DGE-530T that I had to buy because of this stupid nForce drivers that wont install and after 24 hours of no-internet in my Striker II, I just want to play some CS and enjoy what I have rest of this day. Is ironic how this d-link card has the same Marvell chip as the Striker, E881116 lol.
BTW, talking in general, dont count on me on keeping overclocking this system. I had the worse nightmare for 5 minutes (and I was awake). For some reason after installing 0801, I tried 1800 Sync, Linked. When everything seemed to be estable, out of nowhere all my HDDs and Optical drives dissapeared from BIOS!. I have no idea what happened but I was sweating a lot because I thought RMA time, Nooo!, I thought "last chance, load defaults" and that did the trick, but since I have no needs to keep OCing, I prefer not to.
