GAR!!!! you beat me by 2 mins haha, was coming to post it lol!
Anyways interesting changelog!
-----
P04 BIOS is available now, the major highlights are listed below:
Fix CAS reporting
Fix issue with Xonar sound cards
Improved FSB and memory stability and overclocking
Increase allowed FSB range to 3000
Add P1/P2 settings (See below for P1/P2 Notes)
Improve nForce fan speed reporting and control
Enjoy eVGA users :)
Please report results!!!
lets just hope its a good bios, i will be home in 3 hours, i will test it then and report back.
oh its good...it is basically the same as P03R2 from what i have checked thus far. clocking appears to be the same as P03R2 for FSB and Memory and performance with P1/P2 enabled at high FSB is nearly identical. i am fully confident everything else will be the same as well. but don't expect any miracles as far as the corruption issues goes guys...just enjoy the performance and clocking :D
i just started stability testing the FSB but this is exactly what was 12 hr OCCT stable on P03R2, i even turned down FSB voltage a notch. this is on P04 thus far...

I actually haven't tried negative values (Although I have considered them).Quote:
try using those settings with GTL values in positive figures (instead of -30 use 30)
assuming you are limited by FSB
otherwise what is the issue with your setup again
What I did try were values ranging from +10 up to +35mv. I have a bit of experience with GTL values working with the DFi boards, so I know it's about finding that sweet spot.
However to be honest I started to feel like I was p*ssing in the wind with the 790i.lol. Which is why I swapped to the P5E Deluxe. Quad up to 3.82ghz @ 1.5v stable.
My memory which i paid what 90 pounds for OCZ 8500 golds DDR 3(1066) 7-7-7-21-1T, I managed to memtest at 1700mhz 7-7-7-21-2N @ 1.94v. So components seem to be just fine. As mentioned previously the P5E has been a breeze to work with.
Now P4 bios is out however, it's time to swap back and have another blast. Fingers crossed;)

P04 is a GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
got 3000+ bandwidth and latency is now at 49ns, passed prime blend for a bit as well..............so far so good......this board will finally shine like it was meant to be.
im running 450x8 memory at 1800mhz sync with fsb at 1800mhz as well.
Nice to hear that Gar :)
I search to boot with QX9650 on XFX NF790i board but i can't with 01 and 03 rom.
Have you ever to pass YOrkfield CPU on this board?
I am running stable with the voltages below, but someone mentioned my VCORE (Auto - 1.32v) should be manually set to 1.20v or lower since my E8400 OC is rather mild.
Can I get some more opinions on this?
CPU Core - 1.32v (Auto)
CPU FSB - 1.35v (Manual)
SPP - 1.40v (Manual)
MCP - 1.50v (Manual)
CPU temps are 36C idle and 49C Load.
I stand corrected.;)Quote:
You meant to say "I started to feel like I was p*ssing against the wind".
Now LOL properly
Well swapped in the 790i with a stinking hangover, and have to say much happier. Don't want to temp fate, but I think the clever chappies have cracked it with P04.
Passed memtest. Volts on ram @ 1.85v p1 p2 enabled
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6121/3dmark06va3.jpg
The P5E Deluxe was a great board, however even with the q6600 cranked to 4ghz I could barely make 19,000.
It seems where this board excels is in the HDR tests, especially Canyon Flight.
Cpu volts droop to 1.5v under load, which is really what I want permanently. Have to set 1.6v in bios. Not sure whether to enable c1e. If they could introduce voltage calibration into the next release that would be top.
Now a question. Is it possible to install Raid using a USB floppy Drive?
Cheers

dami1stm I search to boot with QX9650 on XFX NF790i board but i can't with 01 and 03 rom.
Have you ever to pass YOrkfield CPU on this board?
yes i have QX9770 and just now with new bios P04 run at 4.1

don't use auto vcore
always set it manually ;)
and you should be able to be stable at 4GHz with that much vcore so drop it a bit i'd say
Has anyone been able to set FSB over 425 stably with both P1 and P2 enabled with a quad processor? I managed to boot once at 445 and got around 12200MB/s read, but then it never happened again...
Above 425 till about 430 is possible but if I restart the system reset to default settings..... and above that if I get it to post (with 1.4V VTT) it would say some OS file corrupt, and I had to reduce the FSB to start windows again.
My 9800 isn't the best overclocker. In fact pretty poor compared. Even so having a bit of fun:D

This bios is amazing, rock solid at 450fsb, and 900mhz mem 7-7-7-24-2t 2.0v, loving it
did you ever rock the P03R2 BIOS? if so, has P04 improved on it?
with an E8400, i am finding absolutely no difference in P03R2 and P04, performance or overclockability wise. P03R2 was really solid and clocked better than could have been expected and P04 is just as good thus far.
Yes, it seems that the p04 is better than the P03, we are experiencing it with Dami1stm. The board works with the QX9650.
But we have another problem. We have installed the 174.74 for Quad SLI 9800GX2 but it appears that there is only one card which is detected (same problem with SLI 8800GTS). The performances are the same as a single GTS, Rivatuner don't recognize more than one gpu.
We are using a Win XP 32bits, which OS is required to bench correctly this board?
Thanks a lot :bows:
i am waiting for xfx p04. if anyone has it pls share it.
Is the 0601 for S2E still have the overvolting problems
There's a Striker II Extreme dedicated thread for these stuff.
However... I don't expect Asus to adjust ( rename to be precise ) their BIOS values to match the real ones.
Plus that there's a variance between different boards.
Are you basing your overvolting "problems" on DMM measurements or with software measurements ?
OK, so anyone else getting randon pausing in games??? if i press the window key goes back to desktop then i can switch back to the game, wierd, anyone else???
Yeah actually, I've been getting some weird video hiccups. I'm not overclocked currenty- Waiting for water cooling, and I'm using the P03 bios . Hope that helps.
Is there any tool for 790i to up the FSB in windows? Can't find anything..
I've just had to install this version 6.10 esa to get it workingQuote:

Thanks, but i do not like any drivers on my SuperPi-OS.
But no need for it anyway. Can boot with 562MHz, but SPi fails. With intel most time you can get some more stable MHz with windows-tools.
The green spots ( could be the blue ones, I don't remember for sure, I will set up the board later and check back )

many thanks :D
i don´t trust Everest and Bios ;)
Cas7 still has a bug while gaming, i turned it up to cas 8 and seemed to fix the stuttering freezing issue.
Striker II Extreme feels way better with 0601 ( still on initial testing though ).
CAS Latency 5 bug is fixed now.
For a starter a low Everest:

Can't remember when i had so much fun with a system last time. This board really rocks here! Don't know why there are so much problems. Maybe i just have a lucky board. :)
Will test 900MHz 7-6-5-20 1T 1,94V later. Both kits can do it alone, but don't think in this combination. ;)
Aight so P1+P2 enabled works with 4 sticks and even with 1T... nice. Thx for the pic flix
my Evga board just died I think (FF) and I am getting the run around from tech support (LOL) so I am Fed - trying on elat thing but i doubt it will work
What pci-e frequency is everyone using on the EVGA board, also does anyone know if the 9800gtx core is overclocked when i increase the pci-e clock??? thanks.
I'm currently running 100MHz ( review measurements in progress :p: ) because I'm 95% sure that it's overclocking like the 9600GT when raising the PCIe bus.
I will check it out ( if it's overclocking when increasing the PCIe frequency later on, after I'm done with the review measurements ).
@RLM, the ntune screen shot is from XP or vista? The nTune in my XP installation does is not giving me options to change voltages from windows.
I've just tested 3 different PCI Express BUS Frequencies and there's no sign of GPU Core or SPs overclocking at all.

For the RAM there's one in the front side, in-between the two blue capacitors next to the last DIMM slot ( the one furthest away from the CPU ) on the top free pad.
good work Bill
how's the nose man
Thanks m8 :)
Big, like everything on me ( except the ears :p: ) :D
For real now, it's getting smaller and pretty close to its original shape.
I'm lucky the broken bones didn't move despite the "great fall" impact.
Guess I was lucky in my bad luck for once :p:
my hero  :yepp:
great work.
i have make a chart:

Finally XFX released their own BIOS ;)
Great news for me, since my reference design 790i is dying (data corruption, freezes in bios detecting SATA HD and trying to etiher go into boot menu or bios menu) I was given the opportunity to upgrade to the S2E for only 100 dollars more, carrying the instaswap warranty for the existing 2 years on my reference design. Needless to say, I did it.
In my thread here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=1#post2936053

I have outlined the problems I've had with two Asus Striker II Extreme + 9800 GX2 in as many weeks.
If the above users with the combination of mobo and GPU would kindly let me know which PSU they are using it would be most appreciated?
Thanks in advance
That Antec PSU for that price is unbeatable.
I would also recommend Silverstone, Corsair and Thermaltake (with Modular cable) PSUs
Assuming I'm proficient at soldering, would it be safe to solder some leads on those points to make it accessable while mounted in a case?
This is where im at so far, no corruptions that i know of, rock solid.
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/5517/setupjc9.th.jpg
NVM, I think I remember having seen your setting in one of Natalia's threads.
( Ratio 5x ) SPP<->MCP Clock 210MHz :D
Yesterday I had a thought... "mid" & "high" memory overclocks seem to be triggering the corruption thingy... what if... the issue's sourcing from SPP to MCP data transfers ?
Yes, now we've got more things to test & see if they help in getting a stable corruption-free system :D
Hi m8,
Exactly.
It looks like the 9800GTX doesn't "overclock itself" ( switch over to the PCIe BUS Frequency as reference clock ) with the PCI-Express BUS Frequency, like the 9600GT does ( raising the PCI-Express BUS Frequency with a 9600GT graphics card results in higher core clocks on the card since it's switching to and using the PCI-Express BUS Frequency as a reference clock ) [ the higher the PCI-Express BUS Speed the higher the graphics cards' GPU core clock frequency goes ].
Going from 100MHz to 110MHz and then to 120MHz should've affected the card's clocks enough to raise my scores ( about 2000pts in AquaMark 3 should've been gained ), but it didn't.
That's on a Striker II Extreme with BIOS v0601.
Hello!
I have a problem, i am installing the moyherboard eVga 790i ultra for first time, but I have some problems...
Already I have installed windows xp but now nothing loads me ... it does not leave me to enter..
I don't know that can happen...
Thank you very much
Yes, they are both enabled.... @ TekJunie, here are my settings, but you should note that SE2 and eVGA boards act a bit different.....
fsb = 1800
mem = 1800 sync mode 8-7-7-24-2t 2.00V
cpuv 1.30v in bios
fsb = 1.30v
spp = 1.40v
mcp = 1.55v
pci-e = 120mhz
ht = 250mhz
all cpu settings disabled, spread spectrums disabled, 450 is the probably the best setting for this chipset and my cpu combo.
It's in Xp mate. Download here http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_...ools_6.01.htmlQuote:

I believe I've read some complaints with these utilities, but no probs for me so far. You can also edit all your bios settings, but it needs a restart.
There some more info on ESA here

Wow, GAR you one lucky guy. a Q9450 at 450FSB with 1.30v thats a nice OC. Hopefully mines will be like that :D
BTW, did you stop there because of temps or because it wont go higher?
Hey BenchZ, isnt more stable to keep the SPP MCP Clock speed to 200Mhz?, with 680i I remember it was best to just leave it on 200mhz, does it really make a difference on 790i?
Well thats what I guessed. Dont worry, 45nm Quad @ 3.6Ghz is NOT bad ;)
I think the highest I have seen is 500Mhz FSB but with lowered multiplier, something that doesnt bring good perfomance sometimes.
yeah im happy with my setup intill nehalem in mid 2009, is when i will upgrade again.....besides my video card.
i can answer that one for you man
YES!!!
Is anybody running any kind of RAM 1T on the 790i. I am asking this because my Gskill F3-12800CL7D-2GBHZ arrived today and I ran Memtest @ the rated timing and speed of the RAM(1600 7-7-7-18 1T 1.9V)and I get a whole lot of errors in memtest. But, with the same setting in BIOS, except that I change it to 2T and then all the error goes away for 2 passes. Now I am running 1900 @7-7-7-18 2T @ 1.9V and I am on 98% in memtest as I type this.
This is on the S2E with E3110.
