Starting with my new bad vid Q9550 :P
Hey guys,
I just received my Q9550 E0, after getting my E8400 to 4.55Ghz on 1.48v with all of your help I am back to report how this oc is going.
So far voltage isnt great at all, 1.30 volt idle and 1.256v stressed on stock speed. (worst ever? lol)
Strange enough this chip does 425FSB without any other changes then disabling static read control and both spread spectrum settings.
Any opinions on how far I will get? (I have a s-1283 aircooler with very old, recycled paste so will get better temps later)
I should be able to cool to +- 1.4v.
Update on crappy Q9550 E0
Ok, seems the chip aint 2 bad, yesterday I got it to 444x8.5 on just about the same voltage; 1.26v stressed/1.320v idle. I cant go higher because the other dividers (fsb/mem) suck at overclocking.
In my experience the only good ones r 333 and 400 strap, the other suck for me, dont no why.
(for example: If I run my mem under spec or wayyyy under spec its not stable on 3.9Ghz even tho 3.8 is stable as a rock... Exact same problem as with my E8400.)
My guestion now is; whats the fastest ram going in the maximus formula? I have DDR2-8500 dominators now but I need about 1200Mhz I think to get 500FSB on the same strap.
But the maximus is rated for 1066Mhz ram, can it handle 1200Mhz? which is best/ most compatible with the maximus?
Thanks in advance
Can anyone solve my problem?
I cant get passed 455FSB stable under 1.280 vcore stressed.
GTL settings on my mobo r kinda lame, cuz Maximus Formula only has 4 options for cpugtl: (I have bios 0701 from rampage formula, should I get the latest 1?)
0.62x (no POST), 0.63x (no POST), 0.65x (no Boot), 0.67x (OK)
And for the NB 8 options, but all settings lower then 0.63x is unstable en doesnt let windows boot. (only remaining setting is 0.67x)
This is what's breaking my head:
I can boot and stress mildly (IBT 512mb) @ 470FSB with;
cpuv;1.375 / 1.280 (all variations are less stable)
pl:1.52 bios, reads 1.60 (all variations are less stable)
nbv;1.61 ( (lower volts here is less stable, higher no effect))
FSBTv;1.36 / 1.26 (1.36/1.38 seems best here, higher, lower bad effect)
nbgtl;0.63 cpugtl;0.67 (c above)
Common performance level:10/9 (444FSB can go on 7 stable)
940Mhz +5-5-5-18 2.1v!! <-- This is what I do not understand, why does my RAM need so much volts? Is the NB to stressed?
940Mhz +5-5-5-15 2.1v <--This is lower then spec = no boot windows
Ram spec: 1066+5-5-5-15/2.1v of 1066+5-5-5-18/1.8v standaard
Or IS the the absolut limit? Temps are good, NB 40 stressed, CPU about 60.
btw, Ik have Corsair XMS2 ram. (and raising volts didnt help anymore after 2.1)
- Q9550 E0 L846B824 VID 1.2874 MF to RF 0902-
Now Im really close to 100% stable :D
OCCT ran for an hour larga data set and IBT ran max as always. My quess about the ram was right, didnt change much in the end:
Strap:AUTO
DDR2-940 MHZ 5-5-5-18 @ 1.8 v bios / 1.878 real
static read control: disabled
AI Clock Twister:auto (tweaking this after max FSB is found)
AI Transaction Booster:auto
CPU:1.368v bios / 1.352 cpuz load and idle
PLL:1.52v bios / 1.600 real
NB:1.61v bios / 1.616 real
FSBT:1.38v bios / 1.280 real
both GTL and Skew settings are set to auto.
(maybe now I can finetune these and get lower vcore)
OCCT is running for 100 minutes now, I guess its time to go higher FSB xD

Quality affordable air-cooled HSF that fits well?
Hey guys. While way back when I had planned on this build to be my first WC rig I just never got a round tuit - going to do that on the next build instead. I'd like to spend a modest amount of $$ to upgrade from the stock Intel HSF on my Q9450 to something better but want to make sure it FITS the mobo without a lot of fin bending or cap nudging. The stock HSF shouldn't be so bad but I find that extended runs at high utilization really spike the temps - I suspect it's partly due to my inability to effectively cinch the sucker down with that goofy push-pin system.
I recognize that the TRUE is among the ne plus ultra of air-cooled HSF's but was hoping to spend something less (and save the $$ for my WC parts) yet still get solid, improved, cooling over what I have now.
Scanning through the thread I see, from the .sig's, that most that don't WC like the TRUE (no surprise). Hoping to get some real world feedback on other solutions that fit this board without a big hassle. Specifically it would be great to know if, say, the Sunbeam CCF fits well (or something similar). NewEgg is currently selling that for $39.99 with a $15 rebate for a net (eventually) of only $25.
Thanks guys.
