yep , 86º @ 65nm its Hot , wonder how are the Temps @ Overcloked

The temp is still a mystery to me, it just sounds too much for 65nm even for a weak cooling solution. It has to be REALLY crap cooler design then if it will bring temps almost as high as my leadtek POS 6800GT custom single slot cooler or perhaps was it badly seated (not sure) but it needed 2x120mm fans around the card with stock cooler to provide temps as "low" as up to ~87C load overclocked. Without the extra fans around it, it would have been like 95-98C load and switching to a Zalman VF700-CU provided about ~17C load temp drop. :p:
I still wouldn't be too suprised if either they had the worst ambient temps ever or the heatsink is making bad contact. 90nm to 65nm is a big difference, as we've seen lots of comparisions between this with CPUs and it does quite a difference, now it does for sure also do for GPUs.
yep, however the clocks are also higher in the 8800GT and the cooler seems not so good as the 8800GTS 320/640M
8800GTS @ 90nm @ Dual slot solution >> 500mhz core - 1600mhz memory - 1200mhz shader
8800GT @ 65nm @ single slot solution >> 600mhz core & 1800mhz memory - 1500mhz shader
that also afects Temps, however i think 86º its very hot & strange , maybe something wrong or bad software readings ................

Yes it's got higher clocks but higher clocks and staying at similiar volts won't improve heat a lot at all, at least it never has for me only a couple of degrees at most. So yea either it's something weird about software reading or the sample used the heatsink has bad contact or the volts have been increased for the card for some reason altho I wouldn't expect that with a 90 -> 65nm jump despite a bit higher clocks applied. And seeing how it consumes less power than a 8800GTS makes me even more suspicious about that temp. I'm still guessing I'll be seeing around 65C at stock clocks in my caseless setup + the winter's coming and sub 0C temps outside helps usually a bit too. :)
urm seeing the numbers sould i sell my asus 8800gts 640mb (for +/- 290eu) and buy one of these for 250eu or just leef it like it is :|??
I'd assume they will, all vendors I've called pretty much say "no ETA", so I imagine they'll get 'em in at the same time anyway.
Nope, OnSale.com has them for $233 + cheap shipping, that site has them for $241, and since I'm in CT, they would have sales tax for me too :(.
Yeah, that's what every other merchant I tried said too... so I just went with OnSale since they had cheap overnight shipping and were the lowest price around by a good $10 a card basically, excluding the shipping being inexpensive as heck ($17 for 2 cards FedEx overnight!!, most places want $14 for ground shipping from CA for these).
Yeah, I thought so too, cheap overnight shipping sealed the deal. Saving $40ish instantly over my Excaliber order, + $9ish rebate from FatWallet's e-rebates program, with overnight shipping rather than ground to boot :D.

Yeah, I'm still debating what to do for a cooler, not sure whether to see if the stock one will handle a nice overclock or just spend $35ish each card for a cooler (so $75 extra shipped roughly) and hope it really helps a lot. I do like the fact that the one I'm looking at would exhaust hot air out the back of the case instead of dumping each card's heat back into it.
@Golden Tiger, can u plz put a link of the Onsale.com 8800 gt I can't seem to find it anywhere :S! also...nobody has mention anything about the 1GB and 256 MB models, just a thought there.
Sure thing... I actually linked it a couple posts up but here it is again for convenience :) : http://www.onsale.com/shop/detail.as...rce=bwbfroogle
I have heard nothing of the 1GB models yet, but the 256MB ones are rumored to be around $200-210 last I have seen (no idea if the rumor was reliable though, just a random snippet I saw), so not really worth the money comparatively.
They got that 86º with ATI toll 3D , regular gaming wont go above 80º ,,, not to mention that the stock cooler looks very crappy ,, VF900 will give at least 15º drop @ load

wow 15 bucks for overnight? Im gonna grab one of those, but...i didnt quite liked the weird heatsink they putted on the 8800 ultra, I have a swiftech stealth for WC does anybody know if it will fit???
Looks similar to the single slot coolers on the single slot 1950pro's, can't wait to get one to replace my 8600gt.
its a bummer that p35's nor x38's arent supporting SLI i was gonna buy 2 of these but guess im gonna have to wait for another nvidia mobo, or wait for a miracle(by miracle i mean a driver with sli support for intel chipsets :P)
If the merchants have a relationship with the manufacturer and not a secondary distributer then they know exactly how many they are getting. I am guessing some of these guys are giving you the run around because there are too many orders and they want to reap as much profit as they can.
I've called a few etrailers and they told me they are entirely sold out for the first week, they only got allocated for about 5 units from the manufacturer for that week.
slap the tr hr-03 (standard) onto it to keep it cool. since the hr-03-plus doesnt fit
Would the cooler I linked: http://www.svc.com/cl-g0080.html not be better since it exhausts out the rear of the case and would not block multiple slots (just 2-slot cooler including the card)?
That's probably the stupiest comment in a while. Just because you have something against a company doesn't automaticly make it rubbish. I like that cooler but I think the fan is a bit silent ie. a bit weak, I'd much rather have seen some 2000~2200rpm 20~25dB ratings or sth like that since personally I'd classify 20~25C silent as a whisper still lol.
so any coolers that worked with the 8800gts/gtx will not fit???
I have a HR03 plus and a mcw60.
lol @ origin...youre saying thermaltake is rubish, YET youre full of their products lol!!
