I got to the SB party late but I got some great deals like the i7-2600k for $199 and an incredible deal on the Gen3, Extreme 4 as well. But this thread seems pretty much dead now that folks have moved on to IB. :(
Late or not , I personally have the 2600k/E4Gen3 Combo and wouldn't trade it for anything else currently on the market (at consumer price levels that is). I say go for it.
Ext 7 here, but again very happy - see no reason to change.
i have the asrock z68 extreme 7 and am wondering if i need to install all of the drivers listed @ ASROCK.COM for my motherboard?
thx
@ckoons1
I see no reason why not, unless you want something disabled on purpose without a driver installed then yes, I think that's the best thing to do.
I tried a beta UEFI adding Ivy support with a 2500k, OCing improved and the system was much more responsive. Well worth updating the UEFI.
Higher dividers will be available when using a Ivy CPU, Sandy CPUs will have the limits they have always had, up to 2133.
Uninstall NV drivers (running driver sweeper wouldn't hurt either)
Power down
Disconnect the SLi bridge
Boot up, install NV drivers
Power down, reconnect SLi bridge
See if that works.
This sounds like a corrupt Windows install and/or corrupt drivers. Run driversweeper to remove intel chipset drivers, go to device manager to remove USB related drivers remembering to check the box that says "delete this driver", restart your PC (you might have to hit the reset button on this occasion as if you are using a USB mouse it'll stop working when you remove the USB drivers), upon restart let Windows reinstall the drivers it can, then download the latest intel chipset drivers and the latest Etron USB driver (1.00.0000.0112).
I don't know why either. For example, let's say I bought this board last week and went to get the latest BIOS and drivers. Where else is there but http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.as...%20Gen3&o=BIOS
I installed 2.10 a week or so ago. So far, so good. I did notice a couple of changes like VM was on by default.
Edit: Have a link to Etron USB driver (1.00.0000.0112)?
^Awesome. Thanks.
I'm curious, does the PCIe 3.0 kick in with an Ivy Bridge CPU or not really?
PCI-E 3.0 is only available when you install a IB CPU, likewise theres no cause for concern if you have a PCI-E 2.0 graphics card and a IB CPU. For the record, from what I've seen PCI-E 3.0 is only really of any help with a GTX680 or better. Differences aren't significant otherwise, we are talking literally 2-3FPS in most cases.
Umm.. actually it does answer your question. Let me rephrase it; Only IB CPUs have PCI-E 3.0 and are backward compatible with PCI-E 2.0.

Tried the new bios 2.30 for my Extreme 7 gen3 and wow it totally messed up my board, caused my second GTX 680 on pci-e 4 slot to stop working in sli, seems to mess up pci-e 4 slot ... I could not go back to 1.30 so I did everything I could to get the card working I mean everything I know as a computer tech. I was lucky enough to find another user who had the same problem and he asked Asrock for help. They sent him a bios to try out which is ver. 2.22A and guess what this version fixed all my issue with the pci-e 4 slot. Now I got my system up and going again. So Ket I think they might have left out some settings that the 2.22A have that allow sli support on the pci-e 4 slot. So if your system is working fine do not update unless you have to!
Thats where the old saying don't fix what ain't broke comes into play ;) That is... unless you have a "get out plan". Not sure why you couldn't flash back to your older UEFI though, theres always a way to do that.
Hey guys....I'm in the process of buying an Extreme 7 board from the guy who posted above " Ckoons1"........and was wondering what the overall thoughts are on the Extreme7 board? I was going to pick up an Extreme4 board , but Ckoons1 was selling his board at a kickass price and I couldn't pass it up. He mentioned that he had the bios flashed to work with the newer IB cpu's , but I plan on running an older SB cpu like a 2500K , 2600K or possibly a 2700K........would I need to reset the bios back? Or will the new bios update for the IB work ok with the SB cpu's?
Theres no need to revert to a older UEFI version nomatter if you use a IB or SB CPU. The Extreme7 is also a very solid board, shouldn't give you any problems and will OC well. I recommend using G-Skill memory, Asrock boards love the stuff.
Thanks ket. That was going to be a future question ( memory )......so you already helped me out there. I was going for 8GB ( 2X4gb sticks ) and would want a set that I could play around on and learn to OC. Basically when I finish this computer ( which will be my first real full build ) I am going to spend a bunch of time this fall and winter learning how to OC Ram , cpu and my video card(s). Always had a fascination with computers....but my hectic life style only lets me play around on them for so long.
You will learn much, youngling. Great potential I sence in you, hmmm. :p:
New link is up for UEFI & driver package downloads.
No system is the same, those settings should be taken as nothing more than a very rough ballpark idea. As for the VGA compatibility, thats probably a result of a issue I told one of my contacts about.
I had a leak in my water cooling rig and the top PCI-e lane got wet while power was on. Dried out now, but debug led stops at "67" on boot.
I'm now currently on a Asus Z77 v-lx board and all other hardware parts working well.
Any hope on saving the Z68 board?
POST code 67 is described as "CPU DXE initialisation", commonly this error pops up with a dead / dying or simply not seated right stick of RAM.
Hope somebody can help me, as I am having huge problems with my Asrock Extreme 7 gen 3 board.
Everything was going fine until I finally gave in and updated my bios to vers 2.30. All initially seemed ok,
but then I noticed that only half of my G skill F3 12800 CL9D memory was being recognised. This was not the only problem:-
No XMP for memory in bios - so only have a choice of 1066 or 1333, neither is correct.
None of the pre overclocks can be applied and cpu multi is only available from 16 to 39 on my 2700K sandy
Unable to set cpu multi any higher than 39 with or without turbo.
So at present I am unable to overclock at all, and only half my ram is available - only 1 bank works at a time - despite
the fact that all memory slots work - hope this makes sense?
What I have tried:-
Memory timings are actually set correctly in bios - the only thing it has got right!!!!
Tested, memory, cpu and mobo under diagnostics at dos level (PC check) all fine.
Can only flash version 2.3 or vers 2.22 - won't allow me to flash back to any 1 series bios.
Tried cmos reset, and battery out, loading defaults, all to no avail.
I very much suspect that somehow the bios has become unreliable - despite the fact it still works otherwise.
Anybody got any ideas how I can solve this issue - Asrock Emily perhaps?
Any one found a reliable way to flash back to earlier 1 series bios - as no dos flash utility seems available for these boards????
Help please!!!!
Mark
Hey All,
Is there any chance of getting RAID ROM v11.5.0.1414 merged into the latest Extreme4 Gen3 bios to use with the Intel RST Driver 11.5.0.1184? I'm not confident enough to do it myself.
I have been reading HERE and they seem to have some pretty good speed boosts.
Also, during system boot I see mention on Intel Management Engine v7 something. Can we actually use this in some way? I have the driver installed on my sytem for a newer version of ME. Does updating the ME ROM help also?
Hi Ket,
Thanks for the suggestions, but have already tried re setting to defaults and numerous flashes. Dont think you quite understood my ram problem;-
I can only get individual slots working and or 1 bank i.e 2 slots per bank working at any one time - it will not use all four slots at once in dual mode or any other
mode - only sees two sticks of ram. Hope I have explained it better?
Any suggestions as to how I can flash back to earlier 1 series bios or get this working as it used to?????
Mark
There is a way to flash back to a older UEFI version, but its somewhat of a hoodwinking process. Your best bet would be to email Asrock explaining your situation asking for a new ROM chip flashed with whatever UEFI version you want. Asrock may even have a beta UEFI they can send you fixing your problems. If you want, I'll email my contacts for you and ask them.
Hi Ket,
Yes please if you would email your contacts I would be much obliged. I have in the meantime contacted support about this - will await a reply.
Mark
Have as yet not received a reply from Asrock support - realise they are busy, but these are serious issues for an expensive board so
would appreciate some timely assistance from Asrock on this one as my current experience is not good.
Mark
Did a search and came up empty on these two coolers.Thermalright HR-02 Macho Or NZXT Havik 140? Both coolers are within $7 of each other so price is not a factor.
I'll be mounting it to an ASrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen 3 and installing it in a Fractal Design R4. I plan a moderate OC on my i7-2600K and battling a very hot summer here.
Both have their pros and cons and 1 versus 2 fans. Would be great to hear from owners of either.
If I were you I would order a replacement BIOS chip pre-flashed to the last known good working UEFI/BIOS for the board for Sandy Bridge CPU's which is version 1.30 from badflash.com
There is no known way to downgrade the UEFI if you made the mistake of upgrading the UEFI to the latest Ivy Bridge CPU UEFI/BIOS when you are running a Sandy Bridge CPU. The ASRock Forum at Tweaktown is full of horror stories of folks with Sandy Bridge CPU's (gen 3 boards) that updated their working pre-Ivy Bridge UEFI only to discover that amongst memory issues and others and have basically "borked their boards" Emily at Tweaktown has essentially been silent on helping...leaving folks to order a replacement BIOS chip pre-flashed to the pre-Ivy Bridge CPU such as version 1.30 or the 2 beta versions 1.32 or 1.34 that were designed/engineered for Sandy Bridge CPU's
Good Luck!
Hi Saphire,
Thanks for the input. As it happens Asrock Emily has sent me a new bios chip for my board - but strangely enough she has sent vers 2.30, but maybe this is a special
version that has the microcode for sandy chips - have not tried it yet, as I have been too busy. Will post back with result as soon as I am able too.
Mark
Hi Mark,
How much did it cost for the replacement chip and who did you email the request to?
Hi Presjar,
I am glad to report that Asrock came through for me on this issue. I contacted one of their support people via Tweaktown forum and she sent me a new bios chip.
They sent me vers 2.30 but presumably with different microcode for sandybridge chip - initial testing seems all good - so a happy camper again.:):)
Hope this helps.

PC dead. Had unplugged from wall socket due to bad weather and came home, plugged it back in and nothing. Tried another outlet, moved the rocker switch. Went and bought another PSU and still dead. Fans do not spin up---nothing. Tried power button on motherboard. It's as dead as a door nail. Anything else I can try? I am freaking out. Just bought a new Fractal R4 case and HR-02 Macho heat sink and was planning on installing tonight. Tried turning on PC to warm up the TIM.
EDIT: Turns out it was my 560 Ti. Removed it and booted fine. As soon as I hooked up the PCI-e cables, no boot, fans, etc. Called EVGA and setting up RMA. So glad I went with them as they are 24x7 and based in Southern California. Card is only 3 months old.
Z68E4G3 2.20 with Intel OROM 11.5.0.1582
Try at your own risk, some people reported memory leak problems with Intel OROM 11.5.0.1582 OROM, I'm using it right now and so far so good.
Before flashing this UEFI, Install newest Intel RST 11.5.2.1001 WHQL (installing newest version right on old one works too), if you will not do it system might not boot after flashing this UEFI !
The purpose of this UEFI is to test if TRIM/Unmap will work with this board in RAID mode, some of us needs this, in Z77 it works already, more here :

apatch,
I have been running this OROM and Intel RST version for a few weeks now and can confirm there is a memory leak. Some times the Intel RST software is up over 1GB ram usage. It takes a long time to get that bad though and I think using sleep makes it happen a bit faster. I just restart the PC a few times a week and don't notice the leak. Looks like we will have to wait for the next release for a fix.
From reading the links it seems z68 is not supported, only z77. Hopefully we will get support eventually!
Hi,
Your post may go someway to explaining why my system is freezing when trying to resume from sleep - never had this problem till now. What is the best way to revert
to older driver as I am running a raid 0 system here. I understand you could corrupt your array if you do not take certain steps in trying to revert to older driver - any advice please?
Mark
Mark,
I am not sure really how to do it without loosing the array.
The safest way would be to:
1. Uninstall Intel RST in windows
2. Restart the system and boot into a Acronis or similar program to backup the raid. (Don't go back into windows)
3. Flash the BIOS with older ROM if you want. It shouldn't matter if the ROM stays at 11.5
4. Delete the raid in bios and make it again
5. Restore the backup and boot windows
6. Install older Intel RST and setup cache options etc.
Someone else might have a better way.
Thanks for the reply mate, groan - a lot of work just for a faulty driver, but hey ho such is the price for living at the cutting edge. Lol.
Think I might be tempted to just trying an install of the 11.2 drivers ott, and see what happens - will do an image first though in case.
Mark
It should be noted that the 11.5 O-ROM is for Enterprise series boards. The latest commercial O-ROM is 11.2. Before flashing a modded UEFI for the O-ROM update I advise you enter the RAID utility as it will tell you the version in there. If it is not too outdated (and it more than likely isn't, I've hammered it home to Asrock on more than one occasion how important keeping O-ROMs updated is) then its more than likely not worth flashing. If you have a spare ROM chip to hand though just in case the flash goes wrong, then by all means.. go nuts.
Hi Ket,
No problem mate. Now solved as Asrock sent me a new bios chip pre loaded with vers 2.30, but I assume with microcode for sandy chip - all working fine now. Just wish they had made two versions
available for download - one for Ivy and one for Sandy - would have avoided all these headaches for many that have been bitten by this.Have sugeested this to Asrock, but seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Perhaps you could suggest thisvia your contacts????
Thanks for your help/input anyway - much appreciated.
Mark
Good to hear all is well. I don't know why you had any issues in the first place - perhaps something very specific to do with your system. Maybe something to do with the stepping of the CPU you have? Asrock probably applied a CPU microcode patch update, hence the UEFI 2.3. Before moving from Z68 to Z77 I did try the 2.xx UEFIs Asrock put out and I didn't have any problems at all with my 2500k CPU. Quite the opposite in fact, I could boot to Windows up to 5.1GHz on the Z68 E4 which any 1.xx UEFI had no hope in hell of I'd get no POST once I hit 4.8GHz or so. All is well that ends well though
I have found my first Asrock board (Extreme 4, Gen3) to be fussy about RAM. First issue was swapping out a 2500k for a 2600k. It suddenly would only show RAM in two slots instead of all 4 and seemed stuck in single channel mode. This last time all I did was move to a different case and heat sink/fan. and I could not even POST. I got error 55 which is RAM. Removed all but one 4GB stick. After posting I added another stick. That was okay so I added back the other two. left the RAM & CPU on the board when moved it. I use Corsair RAM. Why these boards hiccup with RAM issues lead me to believe it's still a BIOS issue as we have different boards. I called Asrock and told them about this last week and to contact their engineers in Taiwan to fix the darn BIOS.
Mark, glad you got yours working but what a PITA.
Hi,
i have been having a weird problem with my Extreme 4 Gen3.
ever since updating my board to the V2.x Bios i have had problems booting up.
sometimes i get a black screen others i get a message saying it failed to boot if i want to go into the UEFI.
i have had the board tested with Prime, memtest86 and IBT and nothing comes up with any problems.
i had it overclocked when i was using the V1.x bios, where everything worked perfectly, but i am using it with everything stock and user defaults(with a few things changed like using AHCI)
i have tested everything and cant figure out what is wrong. Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to sort it out?
i have used every BIOS revision of 2.x, and it happens on all of them.
on every flash i have reset the CMOS and clear the settings PRIOR to the flash.
My system is:
2500k
8gb Ripjaws
580 GTX
bunch of HDDs that have been removed except for the brand new 830 ssd which it boots from(issues have been happening since before i got this drive)
i have left prime95 and memtest running both for about 4 days each with no errors on stock settings.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Quick Edit:
The specs in the sig are what the original owner of this account has. we both have very similar specs and he is the one who forwarded me on to here, if you need more info about my build please feel free to ask.
Have you tried clearing the CMOS by removing the battery, power cord, setting the CMOS jumper to "clear" and pressing the power button 3-4 times to discharge the capacitors? If that doesn't work check your temps. A good infrared temp gun is only about £15 and well worth the purchase in cases such as yours.
Hi Ket,
I have done that with every bios flash.
As for temps mine is pretty cool. idle temps are 28C with load(IBT) being about 50C.
GFX card idles at about 35C with its load being about 70C.
the case i have is a cooler master CM 690 Advanced II, with plenty of airflow.
and just in case, the PSU is an Antec Trupower 750w.
Thanks!
Ket,
I must admit to being somewhat shocked at this statement - are you saying corsair is crap now or has always been crap? I have personally used corsair memory in the past without issue.
Indeed I am still running some corsair in a spare rig. Just wondering why you say this.....
Mark
Corsair have always been a very hit and miss manufacturer when it comes to memory. These days the only good memory you are going to see from Corsair is their uber expensive kits. In contrast, even a super cheap 1600MHz 8GB kit of CL9 Ripjaws is likely to be capable of 1866MHz+ with timings along the lines of 10-9-9 @ 1.6v. Like most things, there are manufacturers that have the ball and manufacturers that don't. At this point in time G.Skill and Geil especially have the ball, Corsair... not at all unless you are buying their really expensive memory kits.
LOL. I don't know why I typed Corsair. Maybe because I just got a Corsair AF-140 fan. I use 16GB (4x4) Crucial Ballistix Sport.
I haven't tried any Ballistix, but from what I know they are better than average and a very good middle ground.
You said "The purpose of this UEFI is to test if TRIM/Unmap will work with this board in RAID mode," So, what are the conclusions?
I have a second crucial M4 128 on the way. Currently using Intel RST driver 12.0.0.1013 beta for the last week. No memory leak or instability and good performance. BTW, now with this driver, the storage controller is still SATA, but the disk drive section of the device manager refer to my M4 as a SCSI drive instead of SATA as it used to be! (I've read somewhere that this would be necessary to make TRIM work with Z68, so it seem to go in the right direction). Didn't flash my X4G3 BIOS with your moded OROM version yet. Hope to get an official one from ASRock with OROM version 12+ to go with this driver version.
I've read that there are rumors that only the Z77 will ever be able to truly support TRIM in RAID, that there is NO way to make it work on the Z68 due to some obscure hardware limitation. If true, what *exactly* makes it "impossible"? I really hope it's just that, a rumor.
Any update, current information and possible future solution to make TRIM work in RAID on thew Z68 would be very appreciated!
Thanks
Ramon
Can anyone post all the settings for I5 2500K and Z68E4GEN3 ?
And also pretty please, updates files to install drivers/bios etc? What versions you suggest, etc....pretty please, thanks

UPDATE about RAID 0 TRIM on the Z68:
After looking all over the internet, the official Intel statement is: TRIM RAID supported only for Z77 in both Win7 and 8. They say "not supported", not "not compatible". The consensus on the different forum seems that's a deliberate tactic from Intel to block TRIM in RAID on the Z68 (and other 6th generation chipset), that there is no hardware limitation in the Z68 to prevent TRIM from working in RAID. The 2 options that floats around to make it work is to either:
1- Make the RST driver recognize the Z68 as Z77 with a BIOS / OROM mod. One fellow apparently was able to inject the Z77 hardware ID string into a Z68 OROM BIOS (or if you prefer, swap the ID string in the Z68 for the Z77 one) and the RST driver apparently recognized his Z68 as a Z77. He didn't mention if the TRIM function worked after that mod. This will need to be investigated further.
OR
2- To mod the RST driver to disable the Z77 check. Much simpler and less invasive solution than to mod the BIOS. On the other hand, every new driver version would need to be moded, as for the BIOS mod would be a more or less permanent solution as you update BIOS at a much less frequent rate than drivers.
Apparently, there is very good hope TRIM RAID with the Z68 can be achieved, only not with the help of Intel... I don't have the knowledge to swap hardware ID string in BIOS, but I would be willing to test it. Same for moded drivers. My board is an ASrock Exteme4 GEN3 and I have 2 X M4 128GB SSD.
Thanks,
Ramon
Hey guys,
I am having a strange issue with the on board USB3 on the Z68 Extreme4 Gen3.
Firstly, I have never used the USB 3 ports on the rear of the motherboard until today, so I do not know if this issue as always been happening or not.
The problem I am having is, when using the bundled USB 3 Panel plugged into the Extreme4 gen3 USB3 header I am able to read and write to an external HDD at 100MB/s (Measured with CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 x64) but plugging the same HDD into either of the read USB3 ports gives me a Read speed of 43MB/s and Write of 34MB/s.
Xfast USB is set to normal for all tests. I am currently running the latest Eaton Drivers 1.0.0.112 from their website: http://www.etron.com/EJ168.php Both Etron Host Controllers show in device manager as working correctly.
System Info:
CPU: 2500K Memory: 16GB Kingston HyperX
VGA: GTX580 SLI HDD: 2x 120GB Intel 520 Raid 0 + 2TB WD Black
OS: Win 7 x64
Please let me know if you have any ideas that could help me. (I have also sent this to Asrock support)
Thanks in advance
Try the 1.0.0.115 driver, failing that fall back to the 1.0.0.101 driver and report back.
I didn't realise there was a 1.0.0.115. I Google searched and got it from here: http://www.pctreiber.net/2012/etront...1-0-0-115.html
All working good with .115
I also tried .109 driver and the read speeds seem a bit higher than .115 but the write speed is faster in .115.
Thanks for the assist! Why would Etron have drivers on their site that are no good and also not the latest one?
Your guess is as good as mine. I frequently had to report a seemingly endless list to Asrock about Etron woes, from there Asrock I would assume put a hot poker to etrons arse.
I guess the native USB 3 with Ivy Bridge solves some issues, but intel needs to step up and provide support for more ports in the next update. Less dedicated USB 2 ports and replace with 3.0 ports.
It is stupid having to use external controllers, you can't trust the support.
Hi guys,
I do have one Z68 Gen3 Extreme 3 with the bios 1.2 on it.
I was trying to update the bios but the Asrock Instant Flash utility wont load up. The confirmation message to open it never shows.
When i click on it a dialogue box with strange characters show up.
How can i upgrade this bios:
Z68E4G3 2.30 with Intel OROM 11.6.0.1624
Try at your own risk, use it with Intel RST 11.6.0.1030 , I'm using it right now and so far so good.
Before flashing this UEFI, Install newest Intel RST 11.6.0.1030 (installing newest version right on old one works too), if you will not do it system might not boot after flashing this UEFI !
Is there any way to get Lucid Virtu MVP to work with this board?
Maybe a BIOS mod?
From what I understand its a problem with the license, which the manufacturer has to buy from Lucid... Unless we can somehow mod the BIOS with the proper license.
I had enough of Lucid problems and just bought few months ago GTX670 with similar adaptive vsync feature, as for a input lag reduction it's a better to buy some 120hz display. I know this is not a solution but you will end up with less problems and better effect.
Does anyone know whether Asrock will release Windows 8 drivers for this board? While Windows 8 does include drivers out of the box, will be nice to see optimized drivers being available.
i have gathered this drivers & utilites, anyone can correct me what is needed, what is not and what's doubled or anything, thanks:

More important here is if they will ever update UEFI to fully support fast boot with Win 8, so far no luck with Z68 link , maybe even this will never happen.
W8 absolutely sucks unless you have a touchscreen display, I really don't know why anyone would bother with W8 if they don't have a touchscreen monitor.
Thats a very niaive point of view to adopt. Have you actually tried using it for a week or so? didn't think so.
People are so resistant to change these days lol! It was pretty much the same with all previous new MS OS's.
At first I used to miss the Start button (There's plenty of products out there that re-instate it anyway like pokki), but after a couple of weeks I'm actually beginning to like it. Barring the new Metro interface (which I hardly ever touch) theres a noticeable performance boost from it not just for everyday tasks but also for gaming.
Either way - whether you or I like it or not, it is Microsoft's next operating system and hardware vendors should make the effort to support it fully. It's not like microsoft are going to say - oh ok then, we'll just ditch it LOL. Move with the times dude! ;)
Hey all,
In the UFEI settigs for the Extreme4 Gen3 I am having trouble setting the CPU fan to increase and decrease depending on CPU temperature. What is the correct method to set the fan? I want it full speed in temps are over 50deg.
Currently, the fan speed just stays on the level chosen in setup and won't change with temperature.
Also, I assume this also should work for CHA_FAN1 ?
I'm using P2.20
Thanks heaps for helping.
I don't like W8 because I have used it, the UI is completely counter intuitive for anyone that doesn't have a touch screen display. There are laptops (only a few, not all) only since W8s release that are shipping with touch screen displays, coincidence? Absolutely not, its because the W8 UI is totally counter intuitive for any device that doesn't have a touchscreen - it takes LONGER to do the SAME THING vs W7. This is also backed up by numerous bits of software released to put the W7 like UI (aka start menu et-al) back for laptop / PC users, Start8 is one example. I believe MS have also released something to put the start button back for desktops / laptops - that in itself should give you a big hint right there.
I've always adopted new MS OSes because its part of my job and associates either upgrade or stay with what they have got based on what I say. To be clear and put it beyond doubt I have embraced Win 95, 98SE, XP and W7 while laughing at the pitiful attempts that have been Win 98 (first edition), Windows Millennium Edition, Vista (with SP2 its not as terrible as people say, but still pretty bad) and most recent, W8. If you have a touch screen device then sure give W8 a try, but even then I found the W8 Metro UI clumsy, theres far too much "do this, then that, to get here - oh and BTW you'll have to learn X&Y does this to make this process easier / faster" whereas W7 its simply "click this, and you're there". What needed to be done right from the very start (no pun intended, but its a good one :D ) is for MS to include a option during the W8 install offering two choices which could of been described as so; "Metro UI: Recommended for users installing Windows 8 on a touch screen device" and " Windows 7 UI: Recommended for users installing Windows 8 on a non touch screen device".
In all honesty, you sound like a MS employee trolling or a MS fanboy, no objectivity at all.
ahahaha!! - Microsoft wished I worked for them ;)
In all honesty dude, I agree with you about most aspects, but a couple of tweaks and I find its more than good enough as a replacement for Windows 7 (price was my main factor in upgrading!). In fact recent sales figures prove its more popular than Windows 7 was! :
Source: http://www.dailytech.com/Windows+8+B...ticle29288.htmQuote:
In its first month of sales Windows 8 has moved 40 million licenses, according to Microsoft. The company announced the news in a blog post and at a conference presentation. It also points out that buoyed by reduced upgrade fees, the Windows 8 upgrade rate is outpacing that of Windows 7, the previous sales record-holder.
Like I said - whether you or I like it or not, its Microsoft's next operating system and its here to stay unfortunately. Without getting into tit for tat conversation regarding the operating system (simple advantages are speed and dx11.1 compatibility over W7 for a start, and yes I acknowledge a requirement to slightly retrain staff etc for business use - but this is what consumer computing is about) - learn to move with the times old man :p
ASRock should be providing up to date operating system drivers - If they simply optimise their existing W7 drivers and take advantage of the new functionality of W8 (Fast boot for example) it will ensure customer loyalty in future and show a commitment to supporting their range of products.
Every other component in my PC (which requires a driver) has had a new driver released, BUT my mainboard which is actually one of the most important bits, i'm sure you'll agree.
I agree with this view - I also have tried W8, but on an ordinary desktop machine it is in my view a fail.I will be sticking with W7 unless they give us an option on install for desktop with start menu/button or metro.
Btw should have quoted Ket post above which I am replying too.

Funny how you keep saying "move with the times", yet I've already stated I've used W8 extensively..... I'm not going to keep repeating myself, you just look like a... well, I'll let other readers fill in that blank for repeatedly saying "move with the times" as your main argument. You also more or less fully backtracked on your first post with this post, going from totally disagreeing with that I summarised to pretty much fully agreeing when I made a more extensive post.. I'll leave that at that. W8 sales may be higher, but I'll bet anything you want those W8 sales figures include also the sales of Windows phone and Windows tablet as well as new desktops and laptops, W7 was for desktops and laptops not phones and tablets as well. Take the phone and tablet sales away I bet W8 sales figures are worse than W7s. MS also say they have reduced upgrade prices of W8 compared to what the upgrade cost of W7 was, aside from that being a form of "cheat" to boost sales, can you imagine if W7 had the same upgrade price of W8? No doubt sales for W7 upgrades would of been even higher because everyone loves W7. You also have to think about volume sales, if somewhere like Walmart buys 10,000 licenses MS count all of those as "sales" even if those licenses are all just sitting on a shelf somewhere. Then you also have to think about all the desktops / laptops sold with W8 pre-installed, that will be "downgraded" to a copy of W7, those desktops / laptops will still be counted as "sales" even though they won't be running W8 but W7, just because W8 was pre-installed. If MS released actual number of activations for W8 figures, they would tell a very different story. Oh and just to hammer this home, I tried buying some copies of W7 from MS to upgrade some work machines, they won't allow that. I HAVE to buy W8 then "downgrade" to W7. All those "sales" of W8 would still be counted even though the systems will be running W7. As for the boot speed and DX11.1 arguments... they are weak arguments at best. Compare a fresh install of W7 then take that same system and compare a fresh install of W8.. boot time differences will be minimal to none, DX11.1? Thats the same scenario as DX10 vs. DX10.1. Did you see any differences with DX10.1 vs DX10? Me neither, the same is true of DX11 vs. DX11.1. Here is also a professional analysis of W8; http://www.useit.com/alertbox/windows-8.html
Anyway, this is all I will say on this matter because its dragging the thread from its purpose - to help asrock MB owners.
Asrock also offer W8 drivers on their website for a lot of their boards, older boards may not get the drivers updated on the Asrock site for W8 drivers but finding W8 drivers for the hardware the board uses is as stupidly simple as its always been - just look in the user manual and google the hardware you have with "windows 8 driver" added to the search term. Alternatively you could always visit some Z77 board driver download pages on the asrock site as a lot of harware from the P67 Extreme4 through to the Z77 Extreme6 is the same. If you don't want to do that, just visit somewhere like station drivers where I'm sure you'll find drivers for all the hardware your board uses. Bare in mind there will be some manufacturers of some hardware that may not currently have W8 drivers or W8 specific drivers may not be released as theres no need for it because the W7 driver works perfectly fine with W8.
^^ This here, is the majority of users opinion. We are not alone by any stretch of the imagination :p:
I couldn't care less what you or a couple of other haters may think about windows 8 tbh ket. I kept my second post short and agreeable to not have to enter into the usual 'windows 8 sux debate' but you still replied with a wall of text. Thanks for your 'gartner' study, but you don't have to tell me about how windows 8 sales operates - You might want to start to learn the difference between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 for a start ;)
Anyway - There are no drivers with 'official' support for Windows 8 - they are merely windows 7 drivers, hence the request. One other user has already asked for them, I'm simply adding that there's more than one isolated user requesting them also if you could pass that on to your contact at ASrock, I would be more than happy. Thanks.
no. the 40 million licenses was upgrade licenses sales not including Windows phone and Windows tablet as well as new desktops and laptops sales,
also Microsoft offered a free public preview. so you knew what Windows 8 had to offer, if you didn't like the preview nobody is forcing you to upgrade, and if you've bought windows 8 still even though you didn't like the preview then that's your fault really.
simple as that
so stop moaning
As I said, I'm not commenting on the topic further, but I do strongly suggest you re-read my post because you clearly haven't read it properly.
