Could be overheating IMC or it needs a small bump in CPUNbvolts. usally when run for long periods of time heat will build in the IMC if using Stock NBvid volts with 3600mhz on the CPU. This will cause the NB to BSOD if its n the edge of stability from heat once its been running for 4 or five hours.Quote:

You will raise the HTT/FSb to raise the Ram freqency..Just set correct ram volts/timing and raise the HTT up ..also keep the HT and NB @ stock setting untill you get the ram dialed in.Quote:

It seem this CPU really do not like heat !?
when burning with 4 X Prime95 for long time it seems impossible to
run with CPU temp >=~50 Degress Celsius.
(Both memory + NB active cooled by 2x 120mm fans on low speed)
Cant get it 100% stable on 3.8 even with close to 1.5V on CPU (temp>50C)

You know what, that's exactly where im stuck too. I think its the Windows 64 bit as bingo13 suggested. The CPU appears that it can't handle more than 3.7Ghz maybe because its loaded more under 64 bit ? Other ppl report higher clocks under XP 32 bits and other 32 bits windows so that might be problem.Quote:

Bah, more BSODs again. Seems to happen when it gets warm in the room. CPU is only in the 50s C but something is up.
I guess they install with "English" if I install one from the "German" language MSI forum page I saw? I was unsure and did not try it from the forum.

I tried Special and ACC enabled and locked up. I guess I either have an non-unlockable CPU or do not know what combination to use, ie: EC 'special' and ACC per core? Yeah my 720be does the same thing. It's hanging on initializing the cpu.

I do not know if I can unlock my X3 720BE, since as of yet it has not? I think I have a non-unlockable 720. But I went from 1.0-1.3, then 1.4b4 and now 1.4b5 and no unlock(FF). Later today I am going to revert to 1.4b3 since you reported that it worked and 1.4b4 does not (for me, you?). I noticed in 1.4b5 that there is no option for setting the Case "power button" for Off or Suspend, it's gone. I was setting it to suspend. Once I try 1.4b3 and it doesn't unlock, I'm done trying. Some just wont unlock. I did not write down the info. on my CPU but it shows as "Denab" most of the time, but CPUZ shows "Heka"? I guess I will nedd to look directly on my CPU to know the lot# etc. The box OPN: is HDZ720WFGIBOX. Good luck with 1.4b5 if you try it. I am curious if ti unlocks your as it did with 1.4b3? That would help me to know if I should try 1.4b3? Don't do it on my acct., but if you do please let us now if the change to 1.4b4 is corrected for you on 1.4b5.

Something is not right. After testing with 4 cores I switched back to 3, but the lockups remained until I cleared the cmos. It seemed that the bios locked down the wrong core and kept the faulty one operating... lol
Something is definitely wrong with the temp reporting when unlocking. I know its not an exact thermometer, but I just hooked up a fan controller with temp probes and stuck one on the side of the ihs. Temps are coming back 15C lower than software is reporting.
edit : When locked to 2 cores my temp probes are coming back within 2C of software for both nb and cpu. I call shens for software temps unlocked.
That seems to do it for me, won't unlock? Entropicity, what setting worked for you? I tried EC "Special" with ACC: auto, all cores, percore (-2 all) (0 all) (0-2/0 and core3 -2), I get FF. I have reset and repowered. Did I miss anything? I know, the answer is mine will not unlock! But incase I missed something and someone has a suggestion, I'll play and try. I have used 1.0-1.4b4 Hmmmm Glad I like my tri-core..lol. Strange enough, after playing with 1.4b5 down to 1.4.3 and it seems for me that 1.4b3 is quicker than 1.4b4/5? Was not looking for that, but when I fired up, a difference. I guess that's beta bios for you? A thought... I also have standard 1333 2X1Gb sticks, can different memory effect unlocking? Mabie I'll play and see. I know how many tries will it take for me to just acknowledge that mine doesn't unlock? Never I hope, that's modding.

Well then that confirms it for me. My X3 720BE does not unlock. As for 1.4b3 it did seem more responsive than the others except 1.4b1. One seems ok also. I installed 1 because that isa known edition the unlocks the 720BE. I think I am going to reinstall 1.4b3 again because I agree, it's the best one.

Cpu v droops by 0.006-0.008v under load. Cpu-NB v overvolts about 0.009v idle and 0.018 load. These are measured from the board with a dmm compared to bios setting.
can you run crossfire like in the pic below? Basically, if I want to have 3x crossfire and a SLI sound card, is it possible?

I don't see why you not, I have 3 cards in mine and I've had them in many slot arrangements with no issues. You can configure it in bios, but it usually works on auto.
Anyone here who successfully unlock all cores n managed to get it stable... mind sharing ur BIOS setting?

This board screams in tri-fire. I came from a DFI sb600 AM2 board and this board just roasts it in framerates. Easy 20-30% increase across the board. AM3, the new southbridge, DDR3, I don't know what did it but its magic.

I managed 3.6 but it dosent seem to like you adjusting anything else,like the nb. Can some one tell me if they have had better success and how? it would me nice to have power saving with overclocking or am i asking to much.
Also is the latest bios any good can it help me adjust the nb with cool n quite.

Weird, I can unlock my x2 550 with 1.4b2 and higher. I can't get it stable with any of the bios however. The temp reporting problem is still there. I haven't tried my x3 720 yet on 1.4b5 or 1.4b6 yet. I'll give these two a try tomorrow I'm not home today.

It seems that my 550 isn't stable enough @ 4 cores but it's good and steble enough for benchmarks.
I need an advice, I've found a new BOX 810 0904 APAW. What do you think is it a good sample or not? I wasn't able to find any info on the net about this batch, ore any 810's at all. Is it a good choice for this mobo, or I should leave my 550?

After looking at mecho_gruh's results I tried the same on my system, 32m prime@4 cores - PASSED
Pi still almost instantly causes a lockup. :(

What is really the best "FSB" or "Multiplier" Overclocking?
Using this board is like going to school for Overclocking. I have read every review I could find and think the forum can be great because of how much knowledge is available. I read success stories and play to fine-tune for "Stable" extra performance. Like tuning up a motor for power curve. I am surely no pro, but, wow is this combo teaching me. I have played with so many settings and know "FSB" OC is a good choice for locked CPU's, but is there a benefit for me with an unlocked 720BE? (No mine will not unlock 4th core)
My current setting seems to be my best stable approximate area. Approximate because my numbers for voltage for example are from Web information, not because I have math and Ohm's law for my decisions (learning), and my other settings are a result of using OCCT, Prime95, Futuremark 06, 3DMark Vantage, SiSoftware Sandra, CPU-Z and some other in and out tried for information programs.
So am I there? Do my setting seem correct, or what do you suggest for me to know? Do I have it close? I read higher success's but all I want is a fine tuned, at or near the best "Stable" my equipment offers. Mabie this topic will help a lot of us GD70 owners that have the same questions. After all this is the 790FX-GD70, let's educate each other forum. And unless you want bragging records (I like them too) to see how high you can get, I want to find my power curve and take advantage of this awesome equipment.... Thanks here's my settings:

I noticed 2T as mfgr specs and switched from 1T. I run good at 1T and notice no difference at 2T (if anything it's better 2T) not sure? Articles suggest 1T when ever stable. What is really better?

How high are you topping out for cpu load temps? It seems most of your voltages are higher than what I've seen to be needed for those clocks. I know every cpu is different, but is that the min voltages to get you stable at 3.552ghz? Unless you have a problem with emi from your computer, turn off spread spectrum. Spread spectrum never lets my overclocks go as high as possible.
My Temps are topping around 46/48. The voltages were gotten from a sample online. Yes, I have had only the CPU-VDD, CPU NB VDD, Dram and NB Voltage as set with the remainder on "Auto" from another example I saw. I have them at current setting and they work, but if you can give me lowers numbers to use, that's why I worte. I would like not to use more than needed if I am too high.
I guess I need to play with less voltage and see results? Have not tried.... but your getting me in the directions I am looking for. Do you think SpredsSpectrum stopped my unlocking CPU's 4th core? I thought SpreadSprectrum was for RFI interfearance and leave on if stable? Or are you saying too get a higher "Stable" result? My goal is not how high, but where is best for overall, as in tuned.
Thanks.... throw chnages to try at me. I didn't mention that I have ACC off also. 29/32deg at Idle. If I take HT Voltage to 1.4 I get 35/38deg Idle- high 40's load. I have used the HT voltage adjustment to get a more stable NB increase to 2436. Have not found setting for 2600ish that OCCT likes. I am not totaly clear on NB and HT settings for best performance. Yet current works great....

Spread spectrum is better left off unless you have emi coming from your computer affecting other electronics. It can cause instability when overclocking so I always leave it off. I couldn't unlock my 720 either so I don't think it has anything to do with that. I can't give you lower numbers each cpu is different, but don't be afraid to lower them and test. With my 720 I could hit 3.6ghz with 1.472v cpu vdd / 1.362v cpu-nb vdd / nb v 1.28 / ht v 1.22 / htt & nb at 2600 mhz.
I've been testing at 3.6Ghz on my 720 BE as well, trying to find exactly how much CPU VDD and NB VDD will be needed for stability. SuperPi is stable but 3DMark06 isn't just yet. I should have some time this evening to keep testing and I'll reference my voltages with yours.Quote:

You more than likely wouldn't notice any difference between 1T/2T. In benchmarks you will notice a little bit, but if you can't get a stable oc with 1T and can with 2T why bash your head about it. I've always disabled spread spectrum going back to my first skt 462 system for the same reason. Instability when overclocked if you have it enabled.Quote:

thatīs a problem i had with my m3a79-t. it would always bsod during loading windows when the nb was higher than 2.6ghz. on the gd70 this problem is non existant for me.
Shadow 419. I can't seem to run the 2600 NB&HT? If I set for 3600 with NB 2600 and HT 2400, I do better. I wonder why I can'trun at 2600? Or should I say, I can set and run 2600 on both if I don't run FurtureMark or OCCT. I can run programs but not benchmark. The 3.552 numbers still seem to be my best?

I wouldn't stress on the ht clocks as much, but you could try giving the ht a bigger bump and maybe a bump to the sb.

With these settings i can reach 2600 with cool n quite disabled,but with it enabled it won't even go too 2300 without a freeze on load or bsod.
Tried diffrent voltages on these settings but still no go.
From what I have read it seems that Cool-n-Quiet is auto until 280FSB, then inactive. Your settings are even lower than mine on the X3 720BE. If you look back a few of my entries here I listed all my voltages. I found that with the additional adjustments I am more stable @3.552 and a 203FSB, 2436 NB&HT X17.5. You have the 955 so there will be a difference. Wierd how we get different results? I am stable with SpreadSpectrum enabled and Cool-n-Quiet on Auto. Others need SpreadSpectrum Off and Cool-n-Quiet Off? I read an article that thanked MSI for the Auto feature on CnQ so that the power savings of CnQ are still there for OC'd boards. But like my X3 wont unlock 4th core, your setup want's CnQ off. No harm off, just no reduction off load for power savings. I found that equal NB&HT works fine for some settings. (a lot of settings). Cranked way up HT seems to need to be lower than CPU-NB? 1.4... beta's have HT Auto equaling CPU NB settings unless manualy set lower.

Correct, you cant have your ht link faster than your cpu-nb speed. It's always equal to or less than cpu-nb speed.

There are two choices for Raid on the GD70. Benchmarks show Raid O as the quickest. SiSoftware Sandra offers some numbers for comparison. Some reviews make reference to Raid numbers.
There is Jmicron 7/8 and SB700 1-6 Sata's. I have read articles that lead me to believe that the JMicron is slower than SB700? JMicrron is limited to 2 HDD's and SB700 up to 4. Like me you have WD HDD and WD states that the "RE" edition drives carry a Raid warranty coverage. In case you didn't know. Yours is a 640 and I don't believe they make a 640RE? If they are not RE and fail, no warranty. The read/write difference between one HDD and Raid O (Striping) is big. Like close to double in some situations and with Rapters.... even better. That is why a lot of Gamers go Raid O. Bigger chance for needing a restore from time to time, but can be worth it, as compared to Raid 1 (Mirror) that is still good but speeds are closer to a single HDD. I personal am going to go Raid O soon and order 2 WD RE Drives. I wonder if one Rapter is as good as two 7200's in Raid O?
with raid0 (not raid capital o) my blackops i had 145MB/s with may 2 501j samsungs and with the gd70 and the sb750 i get about 130MB/s, its pretty good considering that the blackops had a 45mhz pci busQuote:

I have read references to using 7/8 for "Optical Drives"? Installing the Jmicron and running two optical drives. Anybody know anything about this? I there any benefit to doing so?
Just curious because that is something I would never have considered had I not read two different articles discussing doing it.
145MB/s is real good.
the jmicron can be in IDE mode while the 750 is on raid or ahci so u can use the optical on the pata and or sata and u wont have problems with an OS install not detecting the opticals right. the opticals also run UDMA5 and not 6/7 so they can slow the whole thing down.
That's neat that we can do that. So with JMicron set as IDE and opticals work fine. I guess you would have a lot of Sata's used to make 7/8 IDE Raid for Opticals, but it's an option. Obviusly no loss or gain in operation but an option none the less.

I'm back at stock speeds. Had BSODs constantly again, tinkered around with stuff and made it worse, couldn't figure out what I changed, hadn't saved my custom settings.... :rolleyes:
Time to try again I guess but man AMD's new stuff confuses me so much! :wth: I almost wish it were simple bus speed, multi, and CPU vcore like the "old days" as that I could understand. Why I'm having so much trouble wrapping my head around this I have no idea. Too many settings that I simply do not understand.
