Sometimes if its not broke its best not to "fix" it.
But we all like to play with new "toys"...if we weren't like that then we wouldn't be here. ;)
I just got this board
which bios version do you guys recommend ?
and how do i turn off cool n quiet
I don't see the how been happy or not been happy has anything to do with me and some others here enjoying testing different Bioses....
The latest from Gigabyte is the best imho.Quote:

There is an option in the Bios to do that...trying to recall the name but I am sure someone will post it soon.
right now i am at 3.9 @ 1.44v
so far its stable
right now i am running 4x1gb of 1066 samsung so i think its holding me back
Updated to the newest bios
Anytips on overclocking on this board?
Its life things progress y all the :banana::banana::banana::banana:eness about bios! New bios are for fixing and enhancing a motherboards! All people went is the newest version!
which is newer? thought higher number was newer?
F3K 2009/05/22
1. Update CPU ID (for AMD NPRP)
F5 2009/05/21
1. Update ACC code and CPU ID (Support AGESA 3.3.2.4 code for Phenom X3 CPU)
F3K is the newer!
Wow, is there a need for this?
I guess you and a few "chosen" ones are the only ones that deserve to try new Bioses and everyone else that asks for them are just spoiled users that are never satisfied.
Honestly, you are beginning to look like the Billy Mitchell of Overclocking and I think its about time someone has the guts to say it.
Regards
I have some great betas that kill hardware as soon as you flash.........so once again you still aren't getting the point.....maybe I should give them to you to help you see the light.....
As for your comment.......lets see when was the last time I used a beta on this board? I stopped using them.......so your comment is not warranted and uncalled for......I'm using the retails just like everyone else. I'm showing users how to get a stable OC on public bios's unlike everyone else........
As always hard work and time is unnapreciated........
For the record I have not even asked for a bios since F3L.........that should tell you something.........however gigabyte went ahead and granted your wishes anyway and gave you the unlock feature..........with F3K........
Seems your still not happy.......Some people are just never happy........As far as I'm concerned this board is done......other than normal updates.......Other users on other boards need help as there bios's are not up to par.......maybe they will be more appreciative of the help........
Bro 2000, maybe you would like those bios's to........I'm sure you would not mind losing all that money in hard drives instantly after a flash.........
Once again you failed to see the point.
Its not about not appreciating or never been happy with what we got Chew.
This is not the Martha Stewart Arts and Crafts forum...this is an overclockers forum and this is what we do and what we have fun doing.
I just dont understand that its cool for you to test a gazillion bioses, cpus, etcs but if we want to do the same then we are undeserving people that are never happy with what we got.
Oh, for the record, we do appreciate all the work you do and the time you spent but understand one thing...what makes someone stand out and be admired is not having the knowledge and being a Cristiano Ronaldo about it but having the knowledge and being humble about it.
Peace my friend.
Once again your still missing point......I don't have a gazzilion bios's first off....
I haven't even flashed F3K........I still use F3L......that in itself should say something.....
Believe me if there was more performance to unlock in the board I would be on there butt's about it........however IMO there isn't.......
Sometimes you need to know where to draw the line.
There alot you guys may or may not know........I can have them tweak it more to get higher clocks but at a cost.......
There is a fine line between performance and clocks.......They could probably tweak it more so 4 gig and 1600+ with tight timings is easy as pie...........but performance wise it would be no better than 3.8 and 1600 flat with tight timings.......
I have also requested more tweaking options for ram a few times.....and the fact of the matter is everytime they get added there are other issues that show up and ram clocking is a struggle.
Thats all i'm trying to say man........sometimes its best just to leave well enough alone and settle on a happy medium that works.
i believe there's an agreement between bios tester and manufacturer to not disclose any beta bios sent to them right?
i'm just asking if there a new bios release in the horizon for the masses :D
@ chew*
thanks for all your work, I really appreciate it :) and I hope others here will do to
Well, to be honest, that line is the key one here and the thing I would have love to get as reply instead of the previous one which I prefer to just pretend never happened.Quote:
Believe me if there was more performance to unlock in the board I would be on there butt's about it........however IMO there isn't....
I do believe you since you have research it a lot more than I have so if you think that is the case then I will go by that for sure and look at something else in my system to tweak then.
Thanks
Yes there is an agreement....
I might add the grass always seems greener on the other side.......I can assure you its not.....I can also assure you I did not ask for any of this...I was seeked out.....
I had requested a bios with more ram options...
You saw msimax using it on previous pages ( T-5 ).....you can also see clock per clock its slower......in fact even with ram cranked to high heaven its still slower....
Because of the performance loss I won't push for it........
I would muster a guess a new one is due on the horizon with a few updates however....
I'm honestly hoping there is a future board in the works to address some issues with this board that can not be done via bios.......
Seperated SB/HT voltage control........
Fine voltage controls
Wider voltage ranges.......such as dram......1.6v minimum for ddr III does not adhere to jedec..........the spec is 1.5v......
Also CPU_ NB clocking can probably be enhanced with a few small hardware changes......as this board requires more voltage than competitors per clock.....
Dram clocking can also be tuned a tad better via hardware changes.....
Maybe its time for me to start playing with phase or TEC...although it seems nobody like TECs.... :-)
Phase i think will last you longer.....If you can get your own shipper the OCZ cryo Z will definitely get that cpu cranking, most likely alot better than my outdated mach 1.....
Tec's ehh they are good in they're aplication but I don't think they will go as cold and for the money that phase unit will get you more out of the cpu..
http://gear.ocztechnology.com/produc...o_Z/index.html
Sweet, I am hoping for a 24/7 unit of course...I am always scared of condensation but its all about learning I guess.
I will probably use an Athlon 1.4 or old P4 to fine tune my skills first...or maybe my C64. LOL
Thanks chew.
I will create a log with my project/disaster as soon as I start it.
Regards
Was on OCN and had this comment posted towards me:
There any truth to this - what should be the max vDimm i set if so (for either 24/7 or benching)Quote:
also i noticed in your sig your running an am2 board i heard its not good to pump to much voltage on your ram with am2 AMD...because you could ruin the mem controller on the cpu or something to effect
This is for the non-T (DDR2) board i'm asking specifically about
2.2 - 2.3v is fine for DDR2 mobos and B3's and 720's or better.
using ram that can use lower volts is helpfull..
I have yet to destroy a CPU from Too much Vdimm... I even push the NB past what any normal person would on water and that has been 1.6v 24/7 for one year on a 9950 B3...@ 3.5ghz/2600mhz NB with 2.4v vdimm.
The new memory controllers are even better.....If its something your concerned with just run Dimms that clock good @ 2.2volts or less like the new LV Blades by OCZ.
Ive been pushing the Volts to insane levels with air and water from PhI and even to the 550 im running . matter of fact my 550 uses 2.2v @ 4100mhz 24/7 with 1.4volts on the NB.
If anything is going to ruin your CPU ,,
Having (CPU/NBvolts) too High while going for Uber NBclocks will do it:yepp:.
your welcome,,Have a great day
gOtVolTage
Ok - good
My crucial ram uses ~2.4v for ~1300mhz......so it wont be an issue - thats good thanks
Guys, I have recieved my new mushkins other day and I have been testing them out for the last few days. They seem to be very good overclocker, I have had them all the way to 1800mhz at rated timings. On the other hand the performance doesnt seem to be very impressive. I am getting simillar SuperPi results as compare to my old 9 9 9 24 patriots. I was hoping to gain performance with tighter timings but I havent. I tried different sticks in different slots and different clock settings and nothing seems to increase the performance. I have total 4 sticks and currently runing three of them due to clearance problem with cpus HS. Currently runing at these settings below which is 6 hour prime95 blend stable, the best I can get of them. I cant figure out if I am doing something wrong here or If I shouldnt expect better benchmarks, I would appriciate if you guys can guide me. Thanks.

Suphiceto your NB speed is your bottleneck, try and get that up to 2600 and it should net you better performance.
Hey thanks Chew for the quick reply!
I cant gain stability with higher NBspeeds, I can hit 2600+ with +.250v cpuNB VId but I dont see that much of performance gain and it also fails the prime95.
If your temps are good the 720 can handle 1.4v -1.45v on the NB no problem.
Matter of fact i needed +.250 for 2600mhz on mine on water.
On Air you may need .025v maybe more ..
CHEW is right on when it comes to what chips like.
How do you enable fourth core on 720BE with this board?
Funny how it did boot srtaight to windows at same 18.5 x 200MHz settings and 2600MHz NB freq that I did use for 955 :)
My NB on my board is idling @ 54c.....
Should i take off the heatsink and redo thermal paste - casue that is about 20c hotter than it should be isnt it?
Unless im reading the wrong value....
(In Overdrive - Board status tab - everest also says mb temp = 54c)
TMPIN1 = 54c
TMPIN2 = 24c
TMPIN3 = 29c
Can someone identify these for me please
That is your mb temp, your NB is 29C . Which PCI slot are you using ? if you are using the bottom one, then that could be why, because the board temperature sensor is in that area and it would show the temps more than itself. You might wanna put a fan in that are which would circulate the air, I had the same problem when I put my 4870x2 at the bottom slot.
Is default NB vid on the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P 1.2v? AMD overdrive can give me flakey readings on CPU vid and NB vid. Thanks. :) Never mind. Installed Everest which seems to accurately report my NB vid@1.2v+0.250.
Hi just wanted to check if the bios in the 790 xt and the 790 x is the same, in terms of options. I dont need the onboard IGP and was thinking whether the 790x would be more suitable. Also is it as good as this board in terms of stability?
My MB temp and NB temp are the same and about 4*C more than CPU. Using a 250mm side fan at the bottom rear corner of the case. 2 x 4870s.
OC@3 x 3.5Ghz/ 1,39v, Xigmatek 1283, 2000 NB
Any news of a newer bios! Its been over a month just wondering!
Hi guys. I've had this board for a while, but my build has been slowwwww. Wanted to say thanks for all the helpful info I've gathered here, and share a few pics. I've got it running at 3.6GHz (955 BE + Gigabyte 4870 GPU)), crunching 24/7. Having some problems going higher, but that may be my memory and my noob OC'ing skills. But, for now, a few pics of this wonderful board in action:

Looks very blue mate - nice work....
Hello
Wow, that looks amazing.
But doesn't get dusty inside ?
I do have a question:
Does anyone has experience with those white sata slots ?
shazza your case looks awesome:up:
Thanks, guys. Re the case getting dusty ... yep, it certainly will. This was just a test build ... ultimately the components will go into an HTPC case, and the Torture Rack will be used for testing. And, for those that don't know it, I'm a gal - so if you were scratching your head at the baby blue theme, I hope that helps some ;)
And, after doing some more reading, I'm running Vista x64 right now, so maybe 3.6GHz 24/7 isn't all that bad. I'm very impressed with the performance I'm getting with this AMD system - love the fact that it generates far less heat than my i7 setup.
New BIOS released! :D
F3M - 2009/07/28
1. Update CPU ID (for AMD NPRP)
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...S&FileID=14849
Haven't tested it yet, hope it's better than F3L.
I will try thanx!
imma test this bios tomorrow err / today lol
had this on a day, running my x2 550 with 4 cores unlocked at 3,7ghz@ 1.4 volts, pretty sure i couldnt do that with f3k bios.
How is that F3M BIOS? Has anyone really tested it yet?
Running F3M since it came out.
Works fine.
Am able to go from 3 cores to 4 cores and back to 3 cores with just reboots, no removing the battery. :)
Hi people,
I was originally using OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK) which ran fine at their specified settings.
Recently I bought some OCZ Platinum AMD Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P1600LVAM4GK) rated at 1.65v but they fail prime95 within 2-3 minutes unless I have the voltage at 1.70v
I am just wondering if this is safe to run at 1.70v? I've checked the ram & it's quite hot to the touch at 1.70v kinda worried the ram wont last that long with such heat.
I'm just trying to get the memory stable prior to reclocking the CPU.
Would appreciate the info, has anyone got theirs running at 1.65v? if so can you give me out stable settings? I've got mine running at 7-7-7-24 27trc 1T
Yah run it at 1.7v.....giga undervolts ram. I have the same set and have had no issues running them 1.7v. I dicussed this with tony and he agreed that 1.7 would be within spec. Trc 28 or 30 should be a little more stable. I think you will like them better if you run them at 1333+ divider 6-6-6-24-28-1T. They also will not need 1.7v unless your pushing for 1400+ if run that way.
Gigabyte has released a new BIOS for this board, version F6.
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...S&FileID=14879
what the what how many bios updates for this mobo !! should i update my bios i have ph x4 955
my current bios is the F3M
If your system runs fine, do not update your bios.
What is the defference betweek the F3M and the F5(or F6 Bios)? I wasn't sure what it was when I upgraded to F5 to run BE 955 and I guess I'm still not sure.
why vista need forever to start up on this mobo my centrino laptop is much faster to start up i updated the bios to f6
Well my board is now dead because near the end of a bios update my CPU died and Gigabytes dual bios is stupid. It updates both chips at the same time so if something happens to die and you bluescreen durring the update you will lose your board. The B bios chip does not have the original bios but is updated at the same time and this creates a great amount of problems. this is the reason that these boards have died. I have found many other people that have gone through the same thing. My new MSI GD70 arives on friday so i just wanted to let you guys know what happened and warn you about the problem.
If it works, don't fix it.
I have not touched bios since F3L nor tested versions since then if you get my drift ;)
Only reason you should update beyond that is to unlock cores with F3K if thats your thing.
I would only be updating if your having a problem and there is a bug fix in a later bios adressing that problem.
UPDATING VIA WINDOWS SOFTWARE AND + OVERCLOCKED IS A BIG NO NO!
Hi guys. I have this board and a Phenom II X4 965, and the highest prime95-stable OC I can get is 3.94 GHz. Increasing it to 3.96 causes reboot after just a few minutes of prime95. Is this sudden transition from stable to unstable common, and is there anything to do about it? It would be nice to have a stable 4 GHz OC.
I also can't seem to get my NB higher than 2.6 GHz, even though I've tried raising voltages all across the board.
So basically I need water cooling for that to happen. I already have a Thermalright IFX-14 and three UK3000 fans, but that doesn't help. Temps seemed reasonable to me at 30-35°C idle and 50°C load...
Also, what about the NB? I've seen several of you guys run the NB at 2.8 GHz and over. I can only get to 2.6 :/
Same goes for the NB, more cooling :) They start to get freaky quite fast when the temp rises. But they also vary quite a lot from cpu to cpu, just as the cores. I've reached my max prime stable NB clock ever on a 940, as an example.. :)
Dropping core and mem clock, does that let you run it any higher? for testing purpose only :)
Chips are not all the same, I can undervolt my 955 real nice, but can't get real high clocks like others have. If I pulled the temps down quite a bit, it would clock much higher... does that make any sense? Hense why these chips can hit high frequencies on extreme cold. Some chips need more "cool" to OC. My 940 really liked cold, it would clock nicely to 4.2ghz with less volts with chilled water (35*c load temps) then it would with standard water cooling ie: temps never above 50*c full load. Even with high V's. I have had several Phenom II's on this board and all clocked completely different, all used same components.
Updating in windows: Yes
Overclocked: No
Stability: not even close. because i have been crashing quite alot since 2 months after i built the system in april. I was updating the bios because i did it (or tried to) earlyer in the week to F6 but aparinly it stayed at F3K. So i tried again and near the very end of the update i got a message on the screen that said Physical Memory Failure! -> bluescreen -> No post, no display, no backpannel info, power cycling. You have used both boards chew so which would you say was better from experiance.
Regarding dual bios I think evgas is one of the best with the beta chip being on the factory loaded bios and not moving.
Yah I would never flash from windows...It sounds like you updated bios 1.....and it booted from bios 2 due to corruption "backup bios" when you flashed a second time you probably corrupted your backup as well.
Tbh from the decriptions it almost sounds like your ram is not 100% stable or one stick is ready to take a dive.
Yet to lose a board in the flash.
I hate to say it but the 790FX-UD5P ddr II board is probably the most stable board I have used to date.....oddly enough I had one detonate on air trying to cram 3000 nb out of it on air :/, my replacement board has been solid as a rock however.
Well we Tested every part and the only one that failed to post was the CPU. The ram is mushkin 1333 the silver plated ones(low end). Upon recieving the new cpu we had the exact same behavior. Now could anything elce happen to the cpu by trying to boot the old motherboard. And my parents want me to send the board in for replacement, my big problem there is i dont have my clamshell anymore. The other thing is that my GTX 275 doesnt seem to want to fold in my friends system in the meantime. I just spent all my money on the replacement motherboard. Any suggestions on how to package the motherboard because i dont have the clamshell?
Edit: The Ethernet stoped working a while ago. Never used it but wouldnt even work when I reinstalled the ethernet drivers.
Ok thanks for the ethernet thing, but how should I package it because I dont have the clamshell anymore? Please Help!
Hmmm seems to be a common problem with what killed my board witch is the cpu dies and well it takes the motherboard with it durring a bios update. I found 5 identical situation but I was the first to rma the cpu. But the weardest problem is that it wont give you the debug beeps unless you take the graphics card and maybe the ram and then it only gives you the continuis short beeps for a power error. it will not give any other. But my new board will be better for folding anyway. And when i do my i7 Rig with the Classified well this one can become a folding box. My friends seem to call me a folding whore and the add insualt to injury my parents dont like that i am folding.
Hi, I have this MoBo and Phenom II X4 965 BE CPU. I Can run stabel 3DM 06 just at 3,9GHz on AIR (about 37°C at IDLE). Is it normal, or there is problem with CPU or MoBo or eventually with BIOS settings or cooling? Thaks for help.
Here are some tests with Gigabyte... My first subzero time... Had some problems during benching, but here is what I did...

Hey wutup, I'm new here and after reading a ton of reviews along with this thread I bought this UD5P board.
Couple of questions:
1_/) I would like to know if it's possible to overclock to 4.0ghz stable with DDR3 G.Skill ram (2 gig sticks 4gig total)?
2_/) If I increase the NB frequency will it keep me stable at 4ghz?
Here is my system specs and my overclock:
CPU - AMD 955 Phenom x4
Heatsink - Megahalem (switching to Megahalem shadow)
Mobo - Gigabyte UD5P
Ram - Blue G.skill 2gig sticks (4gig total)
HD - Caviar 500gig blue 16mb cache
PSU - 1000watt ultra x3
Case - haf 932
GPU - GTX 280
Dvd drive - sony
OS - windows x64 / windows 7 rtm 7600 x64
Overclock:
(I don't have pics because I'm waiting for the heatsink, so I'm going off of memory)
955 Phenom @ 3.8ghz with 1.44volts
Bus Speed = 200mhz
HT Speed = 2000mhz (bus/ht speed is at stock I did not touch them or the ram)
Ram Timings = 9 9 9 9 30 (I forget the rest but it's at stock)
Idle Temps 29c
Load Temps 45-46c
(The Ambient Temps were from 60-70c It was in about a month ago when it was hotter)
Primed 95 for 3 hours stable
955 Phenom @ 4.0ghz with 1.55volts
Bus Speed = 200mhz
HT Speed = 2000mhz (bus/ht speed is at stock I did not touch them or the ram)
Ram Timings = 9 9 9 9 30 (I forget the rest but it's at stock)
Idle Temps 31c
Load Temps 47-49c
(The Ambient Temps were from 60-70c It was in about a month ago when it was hotter)
Primed 95 for 5 minutes then blue screen'd
I noticed when I up the gighertz to 3.9 to 4.0 the computer start-up stays pitch black longer right before the desktop screen shows up.
Oh word lol yeah, I got it mixed with the cpu temps.
The megahalem is the king of air coolers so I'm not worried much about temps...I booted into windows at 4ghz no problems, jus can't prime for long.
Not to mention that I'm terrible at overclocking the ram, I don't really understand the timings.
In one of these posts Chew says it's best to keep it at 3.8ghz (jus as other reviews state)...My goal is 4ghz but if I have to stay with 3.8ghz will upping the bus/ht/nb speed from stock give me better game/processing performance?
Anyone having this board can do me a really big favor and measure mounting holes' distances (end-to-end) for NB, SB & mosfet ?
I would really appreciate it, since i want to know if my available watercooling gear fits on this board (haven't received it yet ).
Thank you
I'm still going through the pages here, but can anyone tell me if they had any problems unlocking the 3rd and 4th Core on the AMD Phenom II X2 550 and 545 on this bored?
I have MA790FXT-UD5P and Patriot Viper PVS34G1600LLK (high heatsticks). I am thinking about new CPU cooler - Noctua NH-U12P / Scythe Mugen2 / Prolimatech Megahelms. But i'm afraid of memory and cooler mutual disturbing. If somebody have this cooler w/ or w/o this board - type please some sizes - or from height board photo with your coolers and memory sticks.
What airflow cooler normally set up with high memory sticks on this board?
// Update: Find photo V8 + high Kingston sticks =)). But still very need photo Noctua NH-U12P.
Hi guys...
Are any of you using this board with a 5870 ?
If so, are you getting performance consistent with online reviews ?
The reason i ask, is because i am getting poor performance on the DDR2 variant of this board and i have tried everything to sort it out with no avail...
thanks guys.
guys, what are the signs that a chip is havin weak imc? I'm having hard time to get my nb freq prime stable @ 2500MHz & ram @ 16xxMHz with higher cpu clock e.g > 3.7GHz. I have no problem runnin 2500MHz nb freq & ram @ 16xxMHz with lower cpu clock like 3.5GHz. :)
few more questions if u guys don't mind > what is the use of:
- DDR VTT voltage control
- NB/PCIe/PLL Voltage Control
thk u in advance...:D

wow - that makes my DDR2 look even better......
it can do 1300mhz cas 5
on my old board - havent had time to try it on my GA-MA790FX-UD5P
I've put F3L BIOS and tested NB and RAM a little bit. And here are the results...
All the runs are on air with ambient temperature of ~23°C.
CPU cooled with TRUE + 120mm fan and that's all of the cooling stuff.

How are you liking F3L bullet ? :)
It's very good BIOS. Seems to be better than F7. With F7 I couldn't pass 2900MHz (or I was doing something wrong than).
Easy and very good BIOS.
Just need to push that memory more. When I set it to 910MHz it become unstable (even on CL7 or CL8). I guess I need to play with other subtimings but these ones that are set on auto I don't even know what the most of it means (these ones with multys)
where do we get F3L from ??:D
