That setting there looked to be your most stable spot for you from what I am looking at. I think your motherboard just can't handle much more at this point. You should get the UD3P motherboard board for higher FSB on that chip. In other words that might be the highest GFlops your motherboard will let your CPU push it looks like... that is if, everything is stable.
i finaly got the cpu of my brother does anny one had 500FSB x 8.5 on a normal voltage :|?
not alone to do with ya total cpu speed, include ram speed, FSB, total ram tested etc...
True he was testing the same amount of ram as I was 1024 but and speed at one point as well, I don't know what his other settings are though.
It could be performance level too, plus cpu could be throttling from heat if the chip exceeds 71c and thermal control isn't disabled in bios.
Another E0 (the right one):
http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/x...l/Dsc09872.jpg
The VID is 1.22v, instead of 1.26v of the other.
And is cooler, around 4-5º less:

Nope, around 60-65º al max with Linx.
Got an Q9550 sinds 2 little weeks.

@DAAS
You can try to lower your MCH Core to 1.32v @ 471 FSB
What CPU Termination and PLL you use?
Can you post screenshot from ET6 settings
All the rest of the settings are set @ normal in bios i didnt touch anything just putted them on normal what the Gigabyte Ud3 uses.
Is this enough info ore shall i look later this weekend for the exact numbers ?
And shall try out the Mch lowering. :):)

HI. I've just installed my Q9550 vid 1.2625 . Can u post some 4GHZ templates I could use for a start? Until now I've only used dual core procesor on my EP45-UD3P. The rest of the build is EP45-UD3P, GSKILL F2-9600 2x2GB DDR2 1200, GEF 9500GT 1GB, Cooler Master Real Power 700W.
Thank's in advance :)
Guys, help me out here! I just lapped my Q9550 (SLB8V, L847C208), and it dropped my temps down 5-6c. But at 1.288v at 460x8.5, My temps are 78-73-68-68 degrees under prime small FFT. Core 2 seems to be always 4-5c cooler than core 1 and cores 3 and 4 seem to always be ~10c cooler than core 1. Is this normal? I mean, I'm using a Big Typhoon and only 1.288v...
At 1.312v and 475x8.5, core 1 hit 85c!
it seems you didn't lapp it good. maybe you pushed to hard on the cpu u need to let the cpu do the work not your own strength :)
I'm using a Big Typhoon, might that be the problem?
You could check if its flat if its not then you can lap it to :)
It is flat, it's been lapped. I mean, is the BT enough for it? I don't think that an U120 would be 20 degrees cooler!
then i think your temp sensors are broken are they still the same temps as before?
Or it could be his GTLs are not set right `100%. I think he should try to mess with those before throwing in the towel. I mentioned this a couple pages back. GTLs directly affect your CPU temps. Watch your temps after changing a GTL setting and while in mid intelburntest or linx testing and you will see what I am talking about. You want to try to settle your GTL settings where the temps are the highest and most even for all cores and your CPU passes the test of course.
That is interesting, Never knew GTLs could have such a big effect. I will mess around with those in a little bit, I should be getting my Megahalem in the mail today. Right now it is happy at .66 for both cores.
Finally after installing ket bios i managed to get 485 fsb stable....:D

Guys what is the general agreement for the TJmax of E0 Q9550s? I know intel said 100c, but I'm pretty sure it is 95c, at least for my SLB8V. My reasoning for this is simple: A) My old Unlapped Q6600 B3 at 1.34v got up to 69c on it's hottest core under an unlapped Big Typhoon, my Lapped 45nm Q95 at 1.32v under a Prolima Tech Megahalem in a push/pull config is at 67c on it's hottest core. and B) the socket temp is about 12-14c cooler at full load, I would think that socket temps would be very little under the core temps (5c at most) from my experience with AMD64s and Conroes. What do you think?

45nm Core 2 Duo and Quad temperature sensors have a tendency to get stuck at low temperatures and are not accurate. Your E8400 wasn't accurate and neither is your Q9550 so it's kind of pointless to make any temperature comparisons between these two CPUs.
The core reporting 37C at idle is likely stuck. Run a RealTemp CPU Cool Down Test and you will be better able to see the sticking points of your sensors. Intel designed these sensors to control thermal throttling and thermal shutdown and doesn't recommend that they be used to report accurate core temperatures. They all get stuck at some point. Yours look better than most as some can get stuck whenever the core temperature goes below 50C.
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip
It's also likely that TJMax is not consistent across your 4 cores. You would need to take your CPU up to about 70C before this becomes obvious.

When I use IBTv2 my temps go up to 76°C
Looking at kagula's results, with higher vcore and clock speed, he gets 64°C max after +-12h Prime
True papst/nfp12 <> Megahalem scythe/scythe should give the same performance I think ?
Could it be the case ? I don't really have an intake fan.
my buddy just got one yesterday and the VID is 1.3V I could not belive it! i was very unimpressed
HI KingLex ... I have a verry well ventilated case (Antec Twelve Hundred) and the ambient temperature is low (about 20 degrees) ... Also my Q9550 is a high VID so it's working cooler. The low VID quads tend to overclock higher (and using much lover CPU voltage) but they tend to be hot and they usually require extreme cooling ... like water or high cfm fans.
Anyway u seem to have a nice Q9550 there ... have fun with it! :)
EDIT: also True scales well with high cfm fans (not too great with low cfm ones) ... while Megahalems (or Noctua and even Scythe Mugen 2) is good with both low and high rpm fans ... while for only silent fans (if someone intends to make a powerful silent computer) one off the best to do this job would be Cooler Master Z600. In your case water cooling would do miracles :).
Hope my answer helps.
Cheers, Ovidiu Florin.
I was also thinking that my case isn't the best ventilated. Just 1x120mm intake and 1x120mm exhaust. Ambient temperature 22~23°C.
So...

At least I had something fun to do this sundaymorning :D
I'm hoping to take my q9550 to 4000mhz, my e8400 did it so it would be a nice upgrade if I would get it also stable at that speed.
OCCT large ran 12+hours and I started prime blend directly after that
I'm guessing it's goiing to be stable
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/a.../q95504000.jpg
I'm now running the corsair h50 with the noctua nf-p12 fans at +-1100rpm (little less noise than at 1300rpm). This is also with the new antec 300 case (much better ventilated).
I would just like to run with a little less vcore and mch core
Now 4Ghz at 24/7 rock stable!

Hello ... long time lurker, infrequent poster. Just picked up a Q9550 at my local Microcenter in Columbus, Ohio. Batch # L847C221, pack date of 8/20/09. Coretemp reports a VID of 1.1v. Running a modest overclock of 3.2ghz (375x8.5) in an Asus P5K. Sorry, no screenshots. Folks here seem interested in vids related to batch numbers so I thought I'd share.
Just like fdisker, I just picked up a Q9550 at Microcenter in Kansas City with a Batch # L847C224, Pack Date: 08/03/09, and a vid 1.175.... I'm only slightly overclocked at 3.2ghz (400x8.0) on an old Asus Commando...but only 1.040 Vcore priming as I'm typing this. Just sharing like everyone else.
Ok, here's a screenshot.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...coretemp-1.jpg
These CPUs have a Minimum and Maximum VID. Take a screen shot of Core Temp while Prime95 or similar is running so your CPU is loaded.
That might be your maximum VID but it looks more like your minimum. Your multiplier is at 6.0 so it's likely your Minimum VID in that screen shot.
Ok, this screenshot was taken while Cyberlink's MediaShow Espresso was transcoding some blu-ray video from my sony hd cam to 720p wmv. This seemed to load up the cores pretty good. Looks like vid is 1.2v.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g.../coretemp2.jpg
So you say my vid is 1.00V?
http://i34.tinypic.com/2l930id.jpg
no im saying that..
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9852/idleh.gif
and that..
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/9089/loadf.gif
the above is the proof for the 2nd part of my quote.(Unrealer also showed that)
as for the 1st part, im full of guys who are uber skeptical, when see something too good to be true to... their standards.. (like were ppl on my VID initially) , that's why for a L847C seemed "common" a 1.1v "area" vid and it had really good chances to be the "high" VID (as fdisker showed unfortunatelly it was the LOW VID of course :/) , that's why my reaction..
A lot of this depends on how your motherboard is set up and also how Windows has been set up and what energy saving features you're using. Sometimes when the multi drops down to 6.0 at idle, the VID will also drop down. On other motherboards, the multiplier will drop down but the VID will remain high. That's why when reporting VID, it's best to have a load on your CPU to try to get around this.
Here's a few examples of what the latest version of RealTemp shows.
My E8400 will drop the VID down if I'm using the default multiplier but if I go into the bios and lock the multi to 8X, then in the same situation VID never drops down.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1632/vididle.png
At full load, both Core Temp and RealTemp report the same maximum VID.
In the RealTemp settings window, the Maximum VID is always shown.
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4180/vidload.png
Now here's the fun part. If you know what you're doing you can go in and manipulate a register within these CPUs and force the CPU to report the wrong VID.
All software will fall for this trick because the CPU itself is reporting the wrong information. Watch out for uber VID chips on EBay. :)
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/6303/vidbs.png
At full load, this E8400 is being forced to report the Minimum VID of 1.150 even though the Maximum VID is actually 1.2250.
At least the RealTemp Settings window is smart enough to spot this kind of fraud.
Whats the max vcore for WC?
hi i have this chip and a black opps. its vid is 1.3V max but runs stock on 1.19V im haveing MAJOR problems getting above 3.7GHZ could someone help? maybe its a black opps issue and thers no real telling as foxconn has completely abandoned quantum force wish i knew that was gonna happen when I bought the black opps. woulda went ASUS if I had known
Thanks for the clarification on the min and max VIDs. I'm not an extreme overclocker by any measure and I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to fool someone into thinking I had some super fabulous processor. I was just trying to add to the dataset of the thread. My chip won't see anything north of 3.2ghz.
anyone selling a good q9550 or q9650 ? Is there a forum section, buy , sell stuff? , i need a Q9X50 E0 which will do 4ghz @ most 1.28v

Take the Gigabyte P45 UD3R or P45 UD3P, really great board for 45nm Quad CPU, got mine and went from max 450 FSB to 510+ fsb that is Linx Ok. Got from 3.8 to 4.3 Ghz for 24/7. Old one was Asus P35 P5K-E, that was good with 65nm Quads.

Well i clocked my Q9550 E0 vid of 1.1375 to 4GHz @ 1.23 Volts with 500FSB but as soon as i change 1 thing on my GTL settings exept my NB it will not boot so i think if i had a Gigabyte UD3P i would have a higher clock. but maybe i need to try another bios so il be trying the newest soon :)
my max fsb is 520 on my DFI Mobo thats stable but i need much higher vcore cause i didnt test the GTL voltages but look at the Q9650 tread you will see that every one that has a UD3P has realy good OC's with the Quads its famous for Quads :) still i like my DK P45-T2RS+ i just need to take some more time and since its weekend now :D updating bios ;)
@ unrealer = low vid, high vcore ? compare with mine ....something wrong with that ?
Is there a difference/benefit to using 500x8 instead of 471x8.5?
many said, lower vid, meant lower volt for 4 GH.......or better OC
well, see
u had vid 1.125, need 1.3v for 4 GH
mine vid 1.265, only need 1.25v for 4 GH :)
@ all = 4.25 GH for 1.32 v
http://i50.tinypic.com/24q01oj.jpg
@ pezcore with Higher FSB More data can be send over the northbridge so your Memory is a little faster and for example if u use Crossfire like i do you need the Brandwith to support the Graphic cards ;) so 500x8 is better for me..
@Gaul well Low VID means most of the times better OC or lower Voltage at same clock but she has P35 chipset thats not the best platform for a Quadcore for example if u use a Gigabyte UD3P or Her mobo DFI P35 the Gigabyte would clock much higher on lower clock simply cause the P45 can have higher FSB and has more Settings. so my question What mobo do you use?
@Gaul well then your lucky i guess that you have such a good mobo :P
@pezcore
well try it and test with 3dmark but i guess 16x 2.0 is enough for your GTX295.
Look i have 2 HD4850's and in Crossfire my link is set to 16x 2.0 and 8x 2.0 so for my second card i want to get more brandwith :) and its an massive change in 3dmark it costs me more then 1k if i do 471 or 500...
I tried 500x8 and it wouldn't even boot so I put it back :D
yup, all because u'r mobo.sorry
THANX man....!!
let's me introduce u

You can and can not get 4 Ghz stable? It all depends on FSB and GLT voltage, that’s all
My old P35 board was great with Q6600, it did 480 x 8 with no problems for 24/7, so board was good for 480 fsb, but with 45nm Quad id did only 450, no more. Asus P5K-E have really bad settings for GLT voltage (only 4 settings), so there is no chance to get something good, with Giga P45 UD3R/UDRP it is different story
At first posts I could not get 4 Ghz ok, but after some time of testing and tweaking BIOS I went to 4.2+ Ghz that max Linx ok. After all I can say that GLT voltage is the key for high fsb and also FSB voltage. Even high vcore is not needed as it was with 65nm quads.
aight fellows. i hav'en posted here in awhile picked up a UD3P slaped the Quad 9550 EO to see what it can do here's a shot a 4.2ghz passed IBT vcore set at 1.387v droop to 1.360v...I forgot was the rest of my setting did'nt record them at the tiime and ET6 was'nt install yet.I've been resting at 3.935Ghz for awhile with the vcore at 1.268v set in the (Mit) no problems passing IBT now here also the setting to reach 4.2ghz

some say...I need to change memory multiplier to 2.00D and test, and also may need to raise my tRead to a 9 is that true? Right...I'm resting at 4.020Ghz at 1.318v droop of 1.296v on the CPU_Z reading here's a shot below

Gaul has incredible results in his out come of Oc'ing at low volts.I wonder is there something.I'm doin wrong to get that? I can't remember what board he got it's not posted in his sign

Do you need such a high CPU Term Volt. and MCH Voltage for this overclock?
the lowest my System Memory Multiplier will go is 2.00B and your saying Only cas4 memory will you let drop to PL9? if you would post a code I'll try to run of it and test and post the results and see how...I come out
Never tryed lowing it what would you recommend and good trying setting to test?Quote:
