sorry for this belated reply T,.. i was so damn desperate to make my system stable above 450fsb, it wont boot, try up to 1.46nb and 1.3vtt for 4.050 9x450.. then i read some post here that u have to adjust mchref and clockskew to get higher fsb.. set mchref from 0.65, 0.68, 0.70, 0.72, found that 0.72 is the best spot above 500fsb, tried also from 1000mv to 700mv for clockdrive i found 700mv also the best setting, don't have any idea why.. just trial and error, i've been tweaking since december 08, stressing everyday to find stability, and finally, system now able to run stable at 550fsb, but i had to take out 2 of my ram stick :up:

Hi, I’m having real problems with this motherboard (purchased yesterday) but I’m unsure that it is the motherboard and need advice.

Some background:

My original system
Asus P5nt-deluxe 780 chipset with Q6600 Kingston 1066

After getting two dead boards this setup would OC but would have problems, thought it was the ram so I purchased a set of OCZ Flex XLC 9600 still had the same problems and in the end killed the board trying to volt mod it.

Second
GA-X48-DQ6 with the same Q6600 and OCZ Flex XLC 9600

Would OC and pass 12hrs of prime but after a few start ups and shut downs I would get the constant reboot at post and the system would revert to its optimised settings. This would even happen with a 200 MHz OC and about 1.35v (1.28v standard).

Third
GA-EP45-UD3P again with the same Q6600 and OCZ Flex XLC 9600, Purchased yesterday.

Wont OC at all even had the constant reboot when I changed the power saving features from standard. I purchased this board for its overclocking. I had read heaps of reviews with Q6600 needing less voltage and clocking higher. To make it worse when changing the mobos over I forgot to change my Riva tuner profiles and cooked my video card, lesson learned X48 clock video cards higher than P45, and it was water cooled.

In all of the above the ram was always under clocked far from its specs. I purchased a set of 1066 dominators which will arrive Monday but it’s looking like that isn’t the problem.

I NEED ADVISE PLEASE!!!!! To me it looks like the Cpu is the problem in all this but I’m just not sure has anyone had these problems or could I just have bad luck with mobos. At stock everything runs fine 24/7 gaming, benching, everything.

I’ve used OC profiles off forums for the same boards but could not get what they were getting.

The only two parts that are the same in all this are the power supply and the Cpu I don’t think it’s the power supply because no matter how many HDD or fans I plug in when the system is standard it runs fine its only when I OC.

Any help would be really appreciated.

If your talking about the "motherboard" temp sensor in everest and the "system" in et6 i do not believe thats is NB. On voltage screen ET6 says MCH, why would they change that to system under temps? Also Everest does show MCH temps on boards that have sensors. I believe it shows MCH or Northbridge under the sensor page, not motherboard. I have aftermarket NB cooling and temps do not change from 33c(everest motherboard sensor). Idle, Full load, different MCH voltages, and even disconnecting NB Fan shows no temp change. Same thing with ET6, i dont remember what the temp was, i think it was 45, but it never changed either. always same no matter what i did to the MCH. :shrug::confused:too.

Got my UD3P today. Absolutely love it and havent even overclocked yet, booted right out of box, and with loadline calibration enabled theres 0 vdroop. Little vdrop though (1.250 in bios, 1.216 idle and load in windows)

Gonna get crackin with it here in a while, so far its a amazing board. Compared to my 750I anyway that i rmaed twice in a month and the first was DOA.

babalou, can you post your template up please.

Arapab79: if you are trying to overclock this mb, you have to change many of the bios settings from Auto, or your system will not boot...or it goes into an endless reboot cycle...or reboots with default settings and you have to start over with the bios settings. Don't use Crucial ram, and be aware of bootstrap bug as described in this thread which renders some bootstrap settings useless. I understand this can be a tremendous m/b, but unless you are willing to study up and learn about the skews, sub-voltages, driving strengths, ect, for this board, I would recommend taking it back for a refund. I sold mine and got an Asus P5K Premium Black Pearl, which is so superior and user-friendly for o/c it is amazing! I've had my P5K to 585 FSB x 8.5 and it is very stable and easy to o/c. For 24/7 use I'm at 1.36v @ 4320 Mhz. Good luck!!

what PL should i use at 400fsb with 4gb of ddr2 1066???? so far im at PL8

Post your BIOS profile. And HDDs and fans don't draw a lot of power, so it still could be the PSU.

Thx for the answer. So it's FSB related. I was hoping it was something that could get my e7300 8x500 stable without requiring too much vcore. It's 7.5x500 stable now.

gar,i think at 400 fsb you might be able to run pl7,just give it a shot.who knows maybe even pl6?these A3 revisions can run one notch lower than A2's.

so here's 100 passes of linx with 3.6 @ 1.4v and memory 400 x 9 4:5 2.1 turbo setting in bios

linx makes cpu much hotter than prime but i leave my room windows always open so its nice and cool in my room :)

This is my first Gigabyte board. The bios was intimidating. Had to have someone to explain the different names for voltages then what i was use to seeing on the Asus boards. Thanks Rattle!
Was able to get over the 460 FSB wall with little effort. Did a short prime run this morning, will test longer tonight.
Very good board so far.

Just manage to the first Hitz on Crucial Kit 2.40B strap.... 550x8 PL 10- 11I'm give up right now:shrug: Just see the same score on memory benchmark compare with 533x8 PL 9 it's the same. and can manage to get stable easier

P.s.Notice that Mch core over 1.22 can't boot up with 2.40B strap

Lower your vcore man. I can run 471x8.5 stable at 1.300bios

So through all my heart-ache with this damn board...actually two of these boards. Well I get the idea to try slots 1 and 2( single channel I know) and it freaking booted. I am thinking sweeeeeeeeeeeet. So I restart with the sticks in slot 1 and 3 for dual channel. no freaking boot!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice OC, :up: time to go for FSB 450 with that Q6600.

LinX is a real CPU killer, you should try to use max problem size and max memory use, that way you put much more stress on your memory and MCH (NB) together with your CPU.

With the setup in the screenie below my CPU has a temp at ~65C and the MCH at ~42C (with a temp probe stuck inside MCH heatsink)


Here´s a screenie with Q9650 / 500 / 4,0 / 2x1 HyperX PC9600@1000 / 555 15 / tRD10.

Stable with 50 loop LinX (max problem size and max memory use), Prime95 blend 2hrs and 30 loop (~2hrs) Crysis Assault Harbor@high.

If I go one step up or down with MCH ref LinX error with in 3min, kind of sensitive or what.

Now it´s time to leave XP (32bit) and go to Windows 7 (64bit) for some 2x2 and 4x2 ram test.

mm i just noticed the memory was only 772 grr im going to run it again now with is using as much ram as it can and see if it passes and then next step is
450 x 9 :D
