At least I can learn to play BF3...if my C2 turn out to be a dud with cold:D
Is it safe to run 4.9GHz@1.48v 24/7 with temps under linx in the low 70c(This is max) Average temps under linx is 65-66C
I want the chip to last at least 2 years.
LinX or Prime95 cause a lot higher heat load, than regular aplication use. 70°C is very good temperature anyway. If you want be "safe" – try 4.8G with little bit lover voltage
Hey mate! Sorry for late reply. I was very busy, and at the same time very frustrated with Hypers on X79/SB-E.
People here were telling that these don't mix, but I was skeptical... Well, I should have listened.
There were some high numbers, but it was unstable. Couldn't pass AIDA64 CPU ZLib benchmark, not to mention SuperPI32.
If used with Hypers' profile from the BIOS, results were just terrible. AIDA's CPU Photoworxx and CPU AES, which are very memory dependent gave half and the quarter of the speed.
Sooo... While I was in trouble, I was looking for one particular memory kit for some time... And one day I saw it with 50% discount. Of course, I bought two kits for the price of one. :D

What is the safest voltage for 24/7 use? I searched for answers and some say 1.5v is the max for 24/7 others say don't go over 1.45. I'm currently running 4.8GHz @1.46v with RAM @2133MHz. Is this acceptable?

Can't make it to run at 2600MHz :(
what I've tried so far
load Normal OC profile
- use BIOS 006
- set BCLK to 122 and memory to one notch lower from 2600MHz, that's ~2200MHz
- go into DRAM option, set to mode 2, set main timings to 10-12-12-31-1T as well as 2T
- reboot and go into BIOS again to increase one notch memory to 2600MHz, vdimm 1.65v-1.7v, VTT/VCCSA 1.25-1.3v
- get code B2 (62) & 00
- get code B2 (62) & 00[/QUOTE]
b2 -> 00 = IMC cannot make the frequency, DRAM Training not even started yet
I'll give mine a shot tonight... I was going to buy another kit to get 32gb but maybe not now...
Hi, I'm hoping Lard or Raja can assist me.
I was on BIOS 1005 and added a 3rd 580 GTX. I booted up and was greeted with an AF code almost immediately. System hangs, no VGA coming through. If I hit the reset switch it then cycles up and proceeds to a point where it says I need to go into the BIOS via F1 on the keyboard.
I go into the BIOS. All system settings are stock except I have set the RAID flag. It's reporting that it's trying to get to 9600 Mhz on turbo and the memory is set to 1600 Mhz. I freaked out a little bit. I then went into the next BIOS screen where the date is displaying as Thursday, 00/00/986X. I've tried changing this. So if I put in 16/02/2012 it automatically changes to Friday 33/1971547854 when I move the mouse or up arrow etc.
So ok I thought, I'll flash to 1101 in the hope it fixes it. So I flash it, it does the 100% thing. After it restarts it goes straight back into the AF code almost immediately. I hit the reset button and it cycles through, once again asking me to fix the BIOS settings. Once again, the date is wrong and loading defaults etc and restarting goes straight back to AF code, but at least it's only trying to get to 3900 Mhz turbo. All other settings stay the same. I try using the secondary BIOS (0604) and it does the same thing, the AF code, reset, BIOS needs to resaved, same story.
So ok, I reset the CMOS using the button on the rear of the motherboard. hold it down for approx 15 seconds. It goes back to the AF code on reboot and displays a 9600 Mhz turbo mode and same date issue in bios.
Ok so I turn off the machine and take the CMOS battery out for at least 3 minutes. Reseat the battery and fire it up. Same deal as above. This happens on either BIOS.
Is there some way to fix this in house or should I RMA it. Please note I've removed all peripheral devices (except keyboard) and removed all extra vid cards except one, sound card etc. One stick of RAM in the proper slot (it reports 4Gb found as it should) and still getting the same issue. I've been able to force boot off a RAID 0 setup into safe mode but cannot boot in standard mode. When I force boot using a selected drive I get an AE code while it loads drivers (Win7 64 bit Ultimate) and then AA for a bit, then it boots in, BUT have only been able to get into the OS once. It usually sits on 'Please Wait...' with AA on the debug led forever.
Can anyone assist? Is there any way to force it to reset the BIOS to a factory default or is there a more serious issue that I can return it to my place of purchase for examination by a professional?
Please help, it's been 3 days without a PC and I'm going insane.
Thanks.
reseat cpu use only one stick of ram one vga and boot after cmos cleared
check in bios hw monitor all the voltages and temps and take a SS
to see if anything is amiss in the hw monitor
It is normal after upgrading the BIOS asks you press F1 for reset to factory.
First I recommend that you upgrade to BIOS 1103 or 1201 because small fixes compatibility issues and stability.
Study carefully the values of the hard disk, graphics and memory, checking they are correct, do not do any overclocking, leave the values in AUTO.
A greeting.
Thanks Lard. I tried all that. I finally went and bought another R4E. Funny enough, the problem persisted. However over the last 3 days the problems have slowly gone away. I don't know if this points to a CPU issue or not, but today was the first time I could turn it on and didn't get forced into a forced F1 and manual boot off the primary OS HDD.
I appreciate the help and I will slowly start testing the system in OC scenarios.
My post from yesterday is gone...
Here we go again:
Here is a BIOS template for the OP, old school, txt file, as I don't like BIOS s/s. ;)

yes thank you !

Got me a 3960X and R4E and a kit of G.Skill Ripjaws 2133mhz CL9 today.
Did a quick run on the table to check that everything is working, nothing big but the memory seems to OC ok.

- Minor fix of dual gpu VGA detection bug in bios's GPU/DIMM post screeen.
Throwing out my UD3, just a quick question. Should I go for the RIVE or the RIVF? The cooling will be my H100 and water later, so I figured I don't need the extra features on the RIVE. But then again I loved my R3E sooo much. Price difference in Norway is $100...
If you're using the h100, then go for the Extreme version as the the h100 won't work with the Formula.
http://www.overclock.net/t/1218449/h...e-incompatible
Otherwise both boards are great and it's a toss up which you you should get. The Formula does have only 4 dimm slots compared to 8 for the Extreme.
I just received my asus R IV E + G.Skill ripjaws 2133, and my I7 3930K C2 on the way, cant wait to play with this baby :D
I notice there is a 4-pin ATX 12V Power connector near the 8-pin ATX 12V Power connector, should i use it or leave it ?
Oh sorry about that!
Well I hope whatever board you choose that your h100 works with it.
http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=101113
sorry for double posting.
Seems to indicate the problem is with the brackets on the H100 and not the motherboard itself. My H100 has already been mounted fine on my UD3 so I reckon I'll be safe. But thanks for the info! Now, off to try to find some good deals on a RIVE or RIVF :)
I can not for the life of me get my X to 5GHz stable. I have tried so many things in this BIOS that the last two weeks is just a blur in my memory. Pretty bummed out...seems like everyone is getting 5Ghz. Full board under water too...I will keep at it, but it looks like I may have the weakest 3960 out there /cries.
I had three 3960x chips pass through my hands and only one does 5Ghz with decent voltage (about 1.44-1.46v). Another needed 1.52v and the other 1.55v...and neither were completely stable long term at those voltages. I would get a few random crashes here or there I think were heat related. Not all do 5Ghz easy peezy.
So, a noob question, which UEFI is the best/ more stable so far?
I'm using 1101.
Using 1201 here, no issues thus far.
I have been running 1201 but no testing under cold as of yet.
seems fine for ambient temps, and pretty similar to 1005.

Can someone please help an n00b
I recently purchased a RIVE, 3930k C2 & 16Gb of mushkin 2133 Mhz
Thanks to donmarkoni information (shown below), I was able to set the board to overclock the chip to 4.5Ghz @ 1.35 volts using BIOS 1101
I tested this with prime 95 without any stability issues.
I then attempted to push the chip further by increasing the cores to 50 & upping the voltage to 1.4v to give me 5.0Ghz
My system would then boot into windows & run without any issues.
Once I run prime 95 the system would lock after a few seconds & give BSOD.
The codes I have noted are
1 - (0xFFFFF880061D7180)
2 - (0xFFFFF880062A5180)
3 - (0xFFFFF880069B3180)
I have steadily increased the voltage to 1.45volts & the system will not run prime95.
The system is being cooled by a custom water setup @ this time. So temps are not that big a problem.
Also is there a list of max voltages that SB-E will run ie. max CPU, VTT, PLL etc as I would prefer not to kill any thing just yet :shakes:
If anyone can point me in the right direction, it will be much appreciated.
Those settings are trying to run your DRAM @ 2400 with CL 7 timings. That will not work.
Also most CPUs to run 6c/12t at 5.0GHz take 1.48 - 1.52v
Thanks Kensek for the reply.
I should have added that I set the ram to the correct specification set out by muskin.
Am I better off underclocking the RAM for now until I can find the upper limit of the chip?
Yeah for SB-E it is a good idea to clock CPU, BCLK, and mem separately at first so you have an idea where each maxes out. Makes it easier in the long run.
Thanks Eldonko
Just had another go @ 5.0Ghz with the RAM set @ 1600Mhz & then 1066Mhz & I am still getting the message "clock interrupt was not received on a second processor within the allocated time intended"
What are your temps like? Keep in mind not all chips are going to do 5Ghz..
The temps are around 60C
I understand that not all chips are the same (silicon lottery) but I would like to try & get as much from it as possible.
Have you tried 125x40? There is widespread opinion, backed by theory, that lower multi requires less voltage for SB-E.
Thanks donmarkoni for the input.
I did what you suggested & used 125x40 with 1.5 volts - BSOD
Then 125x39 with 1.5 volts - BSOD
Then 125X38 with 1.45 volts & its still running prime
@ great IMC Dumo
Thanks owik:)
My third 3820 turned out to be good @ least on air, hope it will scale higher with cold
looks like you got a good one Dumo:yepp:
If they can clock memory well, they tend to clock high on the core as well (at least on sb-e), I am sure it will be nice on cold, especially since your already at almost 5100:up:
I have continued testing & I run prime 95 for 8 hrs with 125x38 @1.42 volts (memory set @ 2000Mhz)
The other settings were
VTT CPU - 1.2v
2nd VTTCPU - 1.05v
CPU VCCSA - 1.221v
DRAM - 1.668v
CPU PLL - 1.881v
PCH - 1.096v
Is there something I am missing or can I push any of the other settings a little harder due to being under water (have increased CPU voltage up to 1.5v & still getting 0101 codes)
Any help will be gratefully received
Very nice chip Dumo
Those are nice 24/7 settings, if nothing better is gained.
You can try 100x48 with same or slightly higher voltage to see if there is effect from higher/lower multi.
Also try playing with CPU PLL (1.25V- 2.00V), and BCLK Skew/PCIE CLK Skew -1/-10, -2/-20, +1/+5, +1/+10, +2/+10.
Could be that CPU is not such a great one.
Thanks l0ud:up:...Still wanna play with it before go cold

Nice Dumo! 162bclk and 2300c10 is pretty strong, cant wait to see you results on SS.
you may wanna use this to balance temps with speeds
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread...ight=maximiser
I removed the CPU this morning & found two of the pins on the 2011 socket on the motherboard slightly discoloured.
I did not notice these before when I first mounted the chip.
Could the pins be bent, oxidised or out of position.
My concern is they could creat a high resistance on the underside of the CPU.
Has anyone had any experience of this?
What is "Latency Boundary" stands for?
If I set it to "furthest", performance will drop, AIDA64 memory bandwidth will drop from 22000MB/s to 16000MB/s. Set either "Nearer" or "further" is OK.
So NEVER use "furthest" unless you are trying to get highest memory clock, right?

thanks buddy, going to give this a try out tonight:up:
I'm a little disappointed with the way it improves memory OC... :shakes: Would loose latencies improve overclokcing with 0006b too, or there are changes that really do the thing?

I'm just testing my DRAM, G.Skill RipjawsZ 2133MHz 9-11-10-28 2T stock.

Trying to get lowest stable voltages for 5 GHz and so far the best I got is 1,39Vcore(1,36V under load with LLC at auto) with CPU PLL at 1,7(tried 1,3 to 1,9).
Any tips on how to lower vcore more?

Guys...don't do this at home! :D
Well...I've fiddled with custom builds since I was 16, now I'm 30 but it seems that sometimes things just go plain wrong way even with some experience... :)
So I got my RIVE and 3930K and wanted to put things on my table to test it first. So I had my NH-D14 with some Noctua backplate. OK I'll have to switch the backplate on the mobo for 1366 cooler to fit. I went to our couch to work since I don't have space on my computer table. So I took out the 2011 backplate and was about to install the 1366 backplate. Hmm...what are those plastic things, one of them is stuck to the 2011 backplate? I only found three of them...searched the carpet but hit nothing. Fail. Of course ASUS quality control might have had something to do with it, but I guess I just lost it. Fair enough, seems that every plastic ring has actually two of them in one so I got a spare one from there.
Ok while I was working with the mobo I had my 3930K still attached to the mobo. So I stand up from the couch to see better and turn the mobo around while the top socket was uninstalled...I saw something dropping which was the 3930K hitting the floor from approx. 1.5 meters. :)
So I froze for like 10 seconds and I was like oh fffffuuuu, this just can't happen. Quick look around the CPU, no any marks on it at all! Our wooden floor had a little scratch though, but since I pay rent only, that's OK.. :)
Another careful look at the mobo, no bent pins! I was like yeahhh maybe I should try lottery next. I was still :sofa:, with no cooler to check if the mobo or CPU was ok, so quickly I went to buy a 20 eur Intel stock cooler.
And here I am today, with 3930K at 4.7 with my H100, my old Dominator GT 1866 CL7s running at 1866 CL9 for starters. *PHEW* Sometimes a break is just good after something is going wrong...still deciding what to do with my old 990X, Rampage III Black edition etc. Btw once you go X, you can't turn back...I'd like a 3960X now. :D
And one question...I have 3-way SLI and my AX1200 doesn't have any free PCIe cables. The mobo requires one PCIe cable for 4-way SLI/CF, should I use one for 3-way too so I would not burn the ATX connector like on X58?
Im having some trouble with vantage on my R4E. The GPU scores are around 1k lower than they were on the GB UD3 with the same clocks on the gfx card. Fresh win install, same drivers same settings. Any takers ?

Advice appreciated as I am a beginner.
Doing a high-end build, on first power-up (pre-post) the board decided to smoke and crackle. Due to a mistake on my part, I tripped the power after 5 seconds.
LED's flashed up as green.
I am puzzled as to what I did wrong, is this just a bad board? I am assuming this is an RMA case ?

yepp here is some of my experience about this...
Rma 100%.
No plans on running Prime or LinX as long as it's stable enough for benching, gaming and F@H/WCG which it is. I've seen 3930K's stable at 5 ghz with 1,33 vcore and just wanted to see if anyone got some tricks to lower vcore some more.
I've been trying to match the GPU score from my UD3 on the R4E for a total of 10 hours, I've tried numerous UEFI's, two fresh Win7 installs, 3 different gfx drivers and a multitude of different memory timings or UEFI settings. The GPU score i get in 3DMark Vantage on the R4E is still a good 1000 points lower than on the GB UD3. So, the R4E clocks my CPU and mem really well but somehow doesnt perform in Vantage. The GB UD3 is generally crap for overclocking past 4.7 Ghz and 2133 mhz mem. Has anyone else been able to test both the GB boards and Asus boards in Vantage with the same GPU ?
Seems like GT2 is lagging behind, avg fps diff is 5 fps whilst GT1 yields 2 fps lower.
So I've been playing a little with my 3930K C2, and I've got 4.7 out of my chip with H100. Seems like this chip is not the best one, I need 1.4 V for 4.7 LinX 25 runs stable. However I suspect there might be an underlying problem with my RAMs (Hypers I think), since randomly I just get an error in LinX, no BSOD or anything. Also going over 1.4V on my H100 seems to activate throttling at some point. I ordered cheap RipjawsZ 1600 16 GB kit to replace the hypers, I had to set very relaxed timings and only DDR3-1066 to get rid of the random errors. Or at least I hope so...
Is the throttling temp 85-86 degs or 91 degs for C2 chips? from Real Temp GT I would say 91, but I still throttle at 85 or so. :(
Heh sate200 did you even boot the mobo with the stock cooling? Since you still have the plastic on the cooler :D
