BIOS F4 improves RAM compatibility so best to update and see what happens. What RAM do you have?
Printable View
yeah i just updated to f4, getting a lot less errors than before, i had thousands before and now after testing 100% on pass 1 i had only 249. is this acceptable or should i try eliminate all errors? remember im not a bencher the most i do with this rig is a couple of hours a night playing arma 2 and maybe 3 nights a week. those tests were at 4.2
ram is corsair dominator gt 1600 3x2gb 7-7-7-20
im doing a run now on stock to see if i have 0 errors, then i can rule out hardware fail which is unlikey but better to know.
when i tested with 4.6 is gave me more errors than at 4.2, why is that?
what do i need to tweak to stabilze ram when reaching for higher clocks?
You have to pass memtest without any error, otherwise you can get random BSOD anytime.
Use Vdimm=1.65v and VVT=1.32v or 1.34v and run memtest, if it doesn't help use loose timing until you pass the memtest.
anyone is using DVID without problem?
I just upgraded my bios yesterday and I enabled DVID but today I waked up and I found PC is freeze just on the desktop and I have to reset it.
PC was running fine with F2 (no dvid in this bios) 24/7
Getting stable at temperatures higher than 85C will be very hard. Not to mention running the chip at 80C+ (under load) daily will kill it in a short while for sure.
Stick to 95C as absolute max for LinX imo, 90 if you want to play it safe and ensure your CPU's long life.
Awesome, I did a little research on the UD5 and it looks like they updated their manual to show that you need to make a driver floppy/flash drive to install the Marvell drivers for the OS installation.
Not sure which one I will get between the UD7 and UD5 but the $50 difference makes me lean towards the UD5 at this point. Not too keen on the whole NB cooler setup for the UD7.
Thanks for you replies guys!
I installed w7 on Vertex connected to SATA-port#1 (which is SATA2), and then installed the Marvell drivers from the CD/download.
Later, I moved the drive to SATA-port#7 (which is SATA3), and then W7 installed the driver for the port, and asked for a reboot. It worked just fine without the need for updating any file from floppy or USB.
It's the same old silicon like in other CPUs and GPUs and degradation because of high temperatures is nothing new, a few people on these forums got their i7s killed already... Keeping the temps under 80C under load daily (LinX temps are usually higher) is recommended for most chips. I think Intel actually mentioned 65C as max temp for their i7 CPUs, but this is obviously a bit hard to achieve. ~75C sounds about right.
Besides, look at all 4600MHz+ overclocks. These people keep their temps under 70C, otherwise it gets unstable in 70-75C range. Getting the hint?
Interesting. Never heard that people's 4.6g+ overclocks get unstable above 70C. Thanks for the info.
Do you think doing a 6 hour long test on Linx at 90C is dangerous? I've pretty much done it already... I never get anywhere near close to that in my daily use, never above 85C in daily use.
On my q9650 I could pass 4500mhz at 1.392vcore, as long as cpu temp stayed around 70c or below, if the temps got much higher it would fail blend with the same voltages.
I would NOT run any 6hr stability test at 90c. If your temps are to high for blend or LinX, use other tests to get an idea of some stability such as hyper pi, and maybe run some Crysis benches.
I don't mind running long Prime at low vCore and low temp. I often use it to get a burn inn effect that can have a good effect on CPU too. But why push the system when it is running on the edge of the cooling ability? Specially LinX which is really brutal on CPU.
hey thanks for that, ive got the ram at 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 2t and it passed memtest (1pass) 100%.
u reckon i should leave it longer or does the test just repeat itself?
also with intel burn test it was stable with a 5 run but not with 10, with what i want the comp for should i worry bout this?
theres no way ill ever hit 100% load- maybe a lil over 50% for a couple hours at one given time but that would be max
I am putting together UD7/W3520 with 3x2GB Corsair Dominator GT 2000 C7 (CMG6GX3M3A2000C7) this weekend.
Chilling with Apogee XT and 2xBoreas in series.
What is the recommended bios?
Please post the link for DL.
Wish me luck - I will post back results.
Thanks!
F4 would be your best bet .. download
Thx, yeah getting there :)
Hello !
I'm new owner of this motheboard and i7 920 D0 with GSKILL Trident 3x2Gb 2000.
Put vcore at 1,3v for 4,0Ghz (not triend down yet).
My temps at full load with a Megalhems Rev B and Nexus in RealTemp are
63, 61, 61, 57
Is this correct ? I see 7ºC difference between first and last core.
Is it possible to put this memory to 2000Mhz with this motheboard ?
Thank you very much and sorry by my bad English
The temperature variations are normal but I've not seen that wide of a variation with either my 920 or w3520. Are you sure your TIM was distributed evenly and that the HSF assembly was correctly installed?
If your memory was rated to run at 2000MHz then I cannot see why it wouldn't run it on this motherboard.
yes, it is possible :)

I noticed 1.640v(bios) vdimm on this board fluctuates to much between 1.616v and 1.632v in PC Health status/ ET6 while when I set 1.660v(bios), it is steady 1.648v and doesn't fluctuates
Amazing, just updated from x58 extreme/i7 965 to ud7/3520 - took less than two hours and this with water cooling.
I was even able to use the same w7 install - didn't even have to re-install windows!
All is well so far - impressive -

Well it appears that I'm stuck at 4.5 for now, I've been working on 4.6 for over a week now and have had to reinstall Win 7, 3 times already.
I may end up throwing a smaller single drive in with XP just until I can get her stable.
It could also be the 2 ssd's in raid-0 with Win 7 combo at high clocks that's giving me fits or that my 920 just doesn't like 4.6. Too many variables I think I'm getting a headache :)
Bios F4 didn't work well for me, got some random freezing at idle which I think related to low VDIMM as 1.640v bios gives 1.616v in windows and DVID looks buggy.
I reverted back to F2 bios, 1.640v vdimm bios gives 1.632v in windows and has been running without a single freeze for 2 weeks before I flashed to F4. I will stick with F2 for now
Hi people,
since i am new to Gigabyte boards, allow me please to ask a kinda newbie-ish question.
The mainboard largely avoids explaining much about the secondary BIOS chip, it just says that the secondary BIOS isn't flashable by the user.
Is this actually a full secondary BIOS, or just one that privides generic reflashing fuctionality for the main BIOS?
I am just seeing a problem here if the secondary cannot be updated. If it were a F2 BIOS, and the main BIOS a F4, and you are running a hexcore...your flashing goes wrong sometime and the board falls back to the secondary F2.
I guess you see the problem too?
Enlighten me, buddies. :p:
My UD7 is constantly showing C1 error on the display ... Can u guys tell me what this error means? RMA time for the motherboard? or should I be trying something else like borrowing some rams from a friend and try that?
Need a quick reply ... 10x

Hello !
I have problems to config GSKILL Trident 3x2 2000Mhz at 1600 with timmings 7 7 7 20
I'm sure it is possible.
I test with 1,4v and 1,5v in qpi/vtt and 1,66v in vDimm but nothing helps.
Can anyone help me ?
New Cinebench 11.5 is just released, download. I had to give a shot on my 24/7 setups, and getting:
@4.22(222x19) 7.20 pts
@4.51(215x21) 7.70 pts
http://img.techpowerup.org/100214/Ca...0-20100214.jpg
For some reason only the 1.640v value in bios is affected, if I try any other value, it is fixed and doesn't keep to change between 1.616v and 1.632v in case I use 1.640v. This doesn't happen with F2 bios, if I choose 1.640v, it gives steady 1.632v. Maybe someone who use 1.640v vdimm in bios can confirm this by checking the value with PC Health Status in bios.
Loosen the timings on the ram then. Try 8-8-8-24 -1t.
Sorry for this silly question but at Windows 7 startup where the logo animation shows, I get like a single stutter when the animations are moving, it happens random but shouldn't it appear smooth and don't stutter?
It's not a big deal. :) It's normal.
I have a similar problem. trident 2000cl9 at 1600 cl7 does not work on ud7
but at cl9 works great.

Later today, we're testing that mobo with an i7-950 on air, trying to reach at least 230bclk.
We reached 225 with an UD3R, relatively easy... now let's see how will the UD7 do.
In march, we're going@ln2... someone already tested that mobo under extreme cooling? :)
It's strange... no way to reach 225bclk with the UD7 (bios F4)... there's still work to do, but we were expecting to reach at least what we did with the UD3R, not to fight to obtain a slightly lower result...
In the final runs, we closed a pi1M@4,66ghz on air, but talking about max bclk, we're not so happy... let's see if in the next sessions (before to throw everything under ln2) we'll get something better. ;)
207/209 seems way too low... have you already tried even the older bioses?
Those were the settings we used yesterday evening to reach 220 bclk stable @1M.
Where there's nothing written, that's because we leaved it on auto. ;)

230, cpu under ln2? IOH liquid cooled? air cooled? give us some details ;)
Luuuv this Motherboard, best one I ever bought for sure, welcome me to the UD7 club :D
I am having problems overclocking my memories and finding a suitable config, I have done the CPU part and reached a stable 3.9Ghz level
Running 3x 2GB modules Corsair XMS3 CL 7-7-7-20-1 1600 MHz, anyone know how far these memories can be pushed? 1860 MHZ? My screen goes black as soon as I try to clock 'em, tried various BIOS setting but cant find a good combo. Anyone have a template for memory setup?
Also anyone know whats up with my easy tune 6? dosnt seem to synch with BIOS and keep tending to load its own seperate config upon reboot.

Where in the UD7 bios do i find pci-e packet size adjustment.
it is reported you can get significant increase in storage system performance by increasing the pci-e packet size for pci-e connected storage systems (h/w raid cards).
Okey here is my current configuration with test screenshot,
Im running on a air stock cooler NOCTUA NH-U12P SE2, therefore I am satisfied atm on 3.9Ghz. How ever I'd like to squeeze some more out of my memories and fine tune bios settings more. Any tips on this? I found QPI link speed max 6.69 (x36 ratio) being max with the other current settings, when i try to go higher it result in POST fail (c1) and black screen. max CPU temp with LinX were 75C.

I have a question with this board.
I have a Intel X25-M G2 SSD, a WD Caviar Green and a SATA burner.
What is the best configuration talking about connect three components in motheboard controllers (ICH10R, Gigabyte SATA2 and Marvel SATA3) ?
Thank you very much
(Sorry by my bad English)
You should avoid connecting the Intel X25-M to SATA3. My Vertex was not performing at peak there. I guess you need a SSD with a SATA3-controller to take advantage of that 6Gb/s. I suggest you connect the Intel X25-M to SATA2-port#1 on ICH10R. You can connect the WD on SATA2-port#2 on ICH10R too, and the burner on Gigabyte SATA2.
That's how I connected my Vertex (OS-disk) + Samsung F1 + burner after a few tests.
I picked up an i7-960 today. So far I hate it, I think I wasted my money. I will play around with it some more tonight but I should have ordered the Xeon W3565
I'm not touching these new CPUs until a few more guinea pigs test them out first. :P
^ Very good idea.:yepp:
The new chip is getting worse by the minute. Takes more vcore than my 920 for 4400mhz. Guess I have learned a lesson.
Is there any risk of damaging the board running high block 24/7 as long as voltage are reasonable? It runs like a champ so far at 230x17.
Bump.
Where in the UD7 bios do I find pci-e packet size adjustment.

Hi to all,
Been watching this thread for a while. Got a UD7 and am in the process of setting up my watercooled tj07 case.
I have just been testing a 960 with the UD7 using an H50 cooler. I maxxed out at 4.3GHz, HT on, with the 21 multi (I know, the 920 sweet spot). Is that not a reasonable clock? Xeons are hard to find here in the UK and a decent 920 DO is like rocking horse duda.
I have pretty good cooling I think, also have good fans blowing on the board.
The new chip isn't very good so I will just try and use higher bclk. Sometimes the best way to learn a board is with a crappy chip, a lot more tweaking is required for stability.
newhit: 4.3ghz with an H50 isnt bad at all. The older 920's did much better but are very hard to find now.
can anyone tell me the difference between the Gigabyte ga-ex58a-ud7 and ga-x58a-ud7
I can find both for sale, but i cant find any info on ga-ex58a-ud7 on the gigabyte website
ex58a is likely a typo since there's only one UD7 mobo
my retail had my UD5 listed as EX58A-UD5 as well

Hello, witch memory is best buy to work with this motherboard?
For your G.Skill 3x2Gb Trident 2000Mhz (9-9-9-24) and setting, refer to this thread:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=235587
I'm running G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz and it works perfectly, have no issues at all.
